i was just wondering if i void my waranty if i flash a rom which i already did is there a way to undo it im a noob of course
Technically, Yes. As soon as you hardspl it, you void your warranty. But theres of course a wayy around it. When it comes time that you would need to do a warranty exchange of any kind, you can flash the original SPL and ROM. The first post on this thread has the files attached to restore the stock SPL. and then you can always get the origianl stock ROM. just do a search on google specific to your carrier. If its att, i can provide you a link. Let me kno
And BTW, since you have already flashed the custom ROM and HardSPL'ed it, might as well enjoy it till the day comes when u might have to warranty exchange. It doesnt make any difference now
Ive actually had to return my device for warranty exchange. The relocker and original ROM MUST be installed or ATT (If thats who u use) will charge u around $400.00 for the device. I dont think HTC has the original ROM anymore yet there r many ppl on here who have it. Me being one.

Well i recently had to send my phone back and it was Hard-SPL and flash to an different rom all i did was flash back to T-mo ROM and package it up. But i heard if your phone been tampered with they wuld send you a notice and charge you the price of the phone like you said.. but at the same time i don't believe it cause i tampered with my T-mo shadow 3 time and left it with the cooked rom and nothing happen.
Just to be on the safe side flash back to the original ROM, and don't forget to remove your memory card. ^_^
Technically... yes. But I have sent back 3 phones so far (one original Tilt and two Fuze's) with non OEM ROM's installed and have yet to have an issue. Not saying that it won't happen but when it's a hardware issue and not a software issue, I don't think that can be argued.
Although anything could happen!

I have to return one of my 8525s because of the overheat/screen aligh problem.
Since I have hard SPL can I load an original shipped rom without any problems or do I need to cook one?
Or should I load the new wm6 on this one..
From what I hear they probably won't even notice the radio or bootloader..
thanks..
dont go on what you hear. its always easier to reflash to your favorite rom when you get back your 8525. go on cingular.com and get the oringinal rom, use the original radio, and put back the cid lock. that way your sure that they wont reject your claim.
I got the replacment loaded up already.. I just wasn't sure I could load on of the original roms anymore..

im not sure just loading back the oringinal rom will put back the cid lock. find out how to do that.
Honesty is your best bet
having a CID lock will not in validate your cingular warranty, I have done it three times with out a problem, I tell them that I just want to be able to use my phone worldwide with all my prepaid sims, if your a good customer, ive been with them since 1999 and I am not on contract so they never f-ck with me as I am loyal. Anyway if you are a good customer and explain to them that you are a world traveler they will except it without a problem. If you have doubt call them using their technical support direct line (800) 331-0500 or (800) 304-3044
Ofcourse you will need to reflash with the latest shipped rom ....

Worth to read here in case you haven´t.
As far as I understand you can go back to stock ROM and that way you can send to warranty your Rhodium, however I could be wrong...
Let´s see what the experts say.

All that means is that you never have to HardSPL again to flash more ROMs.
You need to restore the original SPL for warranty returns, otherwise they will void your warranty (and I think they make you pay full price for the repair). The first thing they do when they receive your phone is put the phone in bootloader and see right on the screen that a non-ATT SPL is on the phone, and that you have messed with the ROM (it says right at the bottom of the screen in bootloader "Olinex" after you HardSPL, remember?). They will void your warranty for this. They look for any reason not to honor the warranty, and charge you for the repair. So make sure you restore the SPL.
Read the link that rgb posted above, it has instructions on what to do for warranty returns (flash stock ROM, then restore SPL).

i hope you didnt forget to change your radio back!! if you even changed it that is
Has anyone tried returning the phone after rooting it? How about after flashing a different ROM? Any differences before the 30 days and after as far as the same questions above go?
I'm curious before I decide to root my phone.
Thanks!
You can just run the stock RUU to go back to the shipped rom. Check the wiki if you need it.
damn this question has been asked alot
I'm more interested in if you can't flash it back to stock Ruu. For example if you have an issue and need to return it or send it in for warranty repair and switching back to stock isn't possible.

By rooting you have voided your warranty. So no, if you root and leave it rooted then your warranty is void. I just restored my rooted phone to factory so I can return it due to the screen separation issue.
if the unit powers on you can RUU, else you cant. if sprint/radioshack whomeever cant power the unit on and you've not opened it or water damaged it, then it should be fine to replace. they arent going to hunt you down, at least i dont think they will.
yeah my evo was in a boot loop while rooted, with damagecontrol 3.2 rom, and a new radio update and i got a new one, within the 30 days of course. but i learned my lesson and bought a security plan XD
everyones still within the 30 days
Last week I was in the BB I bought my phone from, trying to get a replacement for a few issues. When the rep walked away I took a peek at his monitor, as he was searching for any memos on the issues i had.
He had one email open that pertained to Rooted devices and how to test if the device was rooted or not, and instructions on NOT to accept any returns if the device was rooted considering it does void the warranty and changes the original item itself.
Just a heads up lol.
That's kinda dumb. Rooting is just software change it's not any change to the hardware itself, it should be fine to return.

But rooting can also brick your phone if you do it wrong.
Yes, but if you get it back to stock RUU then any such risk has been neutralized.
Hi. I recently rooted and installed a WWE "sensefroyo" rom off the internet.
And I just figured out (since a couple of hours) that my speaker isn't working AT ALL.
Before, it worked when you left the battery out for a minute and put it back in. it worked flawlessly. But after a while it'd go back to being messed up.
Now its screwed. and wont work at all.
I didnt realise I needed to get it replaced till now.
I really need the Telus Desire rom asap. As I just emailed them about it, and most likely need to get it replaced/fixed. And I dont know much about Telus, if you lose warranty privileges if you root/custom ROM it.
Unless I can tell them that I installed the official 2.2 ROM (dont know if it needs root) off those .exe files (the RUU_Signed) kind. (They didn't work for me. So i rooted using recovery)
Or if you can link me to one where I can find a rom that does not require rooting, and has an .exe file and a copy of a .zip kind.
I wrote a lot here, and its all over the place.
Right now. Either link me to the Telus Desire rom. or one where I can flash without rooting.
I am going to unroot as soon as I get one of those two things^
Thanks. I just hope you guys know what kind of freaky situation I am in.
Where did you buy it, and how long has it been since you bought it?
Depending on those factors, you may not need to worry too much.
I had it activated on a 3 year contract almost a week ago(Not even a week)
What do you mean by I will not have to worry about these things?
Is Telus a carrier that is more on the 'chill' side of things?
EDIT - So I just got off the phone with Telus.
The representative told me if I installed something that Telus did not release. That basically voids my warranty. So now I really need to get back exactly as it was before.
Can someone please help me out here?
I need to go to a dealer soon to get it replaced.
I am pretty sure I can unroot it myself with no issues I guess.
I really need something that matches with the same stats as a Telus Desire.
You should probably try starting over.
If your rom is still rooted, get ROM Manager and install clockworkmod.
You can install something stable like opendesire and wipe data/cache.
You should be fine, unless you really have some unusual desire to be on Telus' rom.
I was wondering if someone can post what their 'software version' looked like on a Telus Desire
Maybe then I can try to get the same radio and 'stats' as a factory device.
I got on a rep and they also said that the worst thing that can happen is your device will be sent back.
They even said that some people wont even notice the software change and stuff.
If at the end I cant get a Telus rom. I would LOVE a link to an Eclair build rom. Possibly one that is an official.
Didn't you nandroid backup prior to moving to froyo?
From what I understand you can restore from that.

I actually have NO idea what nandroid was.
I just followed instructions off a tut on xda.
So I cant seem to find factory eclair roms.
Now I read around a little bit more.
And just feel completely stupid.
Please. Someone. A factory Eclair build.
start by getting clockworkmod installed.
Without knowing what state your device is in, it's tough to help you.
but with clockworkmod recovery going, you will easily be able to switch between roms.
Honestly you couldn't have bought it that long ago, just return it to the store, the guys don't even know how to check.

after you set it up, let us know what's not working.
If I were you, I would go back to the store you got it from, with your recipt and contract. You have 14 days to return any phone. That's how I got my desire, I returned a Hero. Make sure you take everythign back you got, charger, phones, etc. Tell them waiting to get a band new phone fixed is a waste of your time, and you want to exchange the phone right away.
So long as you have a sense UI ROM running, I doubt they will know you have rooted the phone. The guys where I bought the phone didn't know too much about it.
If you managed to get a tech support guy to tell you they might not notice, you clearly have the power to get what you need from people. Be forceful if you have to, within 2 weeks they should just give you a brand new phone. After 14days though, your gonna have to live with no speaker, hope it's actually a software issue(doesn't sould like it if even stock it was failing), or send it back and hope they don't miss it. To the best of my knowledge there are no Telus official roms to be found, but there are many official roms from other places. As long as your background doesn't say VodaPhone or something, how will they know?

Telus has 30 day DOA over the counter exchange.
YAh but he made the mistake of telling them e rooted and flashed it (why on earth would any one do that i dont know)
So they have flagged that IMEI in the system as void.
Your best bet is to try doing a wipe and flashing back to the telus 2.1 rom and radio, you will, the recovery is gone though as we dont hava ruu.
Actually. I didnt. I went straight for asking the question off a residential phone that uses Rogers. So they don't know who I was or any account related things.
The first time I called though, I told them that the speaker wasnt working and I wanted it replaced.
So no my IMEI is not flagged, guarantee you that part.
I will try using the OpenDesire 3.5.0 with "clear/wire cache"
This might work for you and i think its your best bet.

Go to the above thread, follow the instructions and make a gold card.
then go to the following thread, download official froyo rom and flash it. It looks almost the same as the original rom.

I cant seem to do the goldcard thing.
I am using the official 2.2 at the moment.
It does look the same as 2.1 Telus itself.
What does it mean over here?
# Ensure you have unzipped the SDK, then open a command prompt to the extract location. Change to the 'tools directory.
# Type
Code:
adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
and press enter. You should get a very long number which looks like this: 532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402.

I am done making the GoldCard. What does it even do though?
It has something to do with switching to the factory rom..
Now. I have issues with the RUU. It does not wait long enough for the phone to be in bootloader.
EDIT - Is there any way I can "remove" or uninstall the Superuser Permissions app and the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" app? To make it appear even more legitimate.

I packed up the telus stock rom from a nandroid dump you can try it.
http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Stock/Telus_HTC_Desire_Stock_2.1_NoRADIO.zip
Hey I needed to unroot my phone too and I tried a bunch of things then I was following procedures to root my phone again because I tried installing the Rom that was posted by the person that posted before me and I messed up and got lots of errors when I got the phone started and had to force close a bunch of things constantly. Anyways I followed step 3 of the tut for rooting TELUS desires on this forum site and when it restarted I got my stock TELUS Rom back unrooted. This is the step I followed
3. Go to HBOOT, this is done by shutting down your phone and powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time, once HBOOT is loaded do a wipe (Clear Storage). You can navigate the menus by using the volume rocker and the Power button to select your option.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7818278 is the link to the tut I was following.
I dunno how it worked but it did, I got my stock TELUS Rom by doing this. Maybe I got lucky and maybe you might too. Oh and just for your info, the tut I used to root my desire initially was this one forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750888. Good luck
Yes yes, tampering with the hardware of a device voids the warranty. But does it actually make a difference? Cant you just unroot your device, and send it back into the store for a brand new one (if something breaks, etc etc)? I feel kind of stupid asking this question but i honestly dont understand the difference between the two. Answer please?
Depends, I'm not sure if you can unroot the Evo. My Moment I could unroot. If the phone doesn't start up, then you're okay.
The first Evo (rooted) I bought fell in the toilet, the right side of the screen stopped working, all I did was uninstall Superuser and any rooted apps via ADB and they never suspected a thing.
You could still boot into recovery though but they never tried I guess

Yes, you can just Unroot but just make sure to flash the S-ON zip first. They are big to say it voids your warranty, but I don't think they really go through phones all that much to check for evidence of rooting. But, don't take advantage of this being an option. It gets old seeing all the people on here who brick their phones because they don't know what they are doing then just returning it for replacement because they didn't read something closely enough. These antics only hurt all of us in the end, just more excuses for Sprint to jack it to us on insurance etc.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Nah its not me with the problems, my phone is perfectly fine. I was just wondering because one of my friends wants me to root their phone and such, but they're kind of hesitant because of the whole waranty being voided thing. With the S-On zip though, this unroots the enitre phone back to stock? I forgot to mention this before but the phone that would possibly need unrooting is an Evo purchased a couple weeks ago.
The if you used unrevoked, the s-on tool sets your nand security back to s-on, and then running a ruu with reflash all stock software. Doing these two things will completely unroot you and make the phone eligible for warranty stuff.
Got it. Thanks a bunch.
yea when we root its all software crap and so with software its easily taken on and off just gotta know what your doing. As for as hardware mods if you take your phone apart that voids the warranty .
