I think it's actually damn good thing! that means more pure android experience to the mass! less skins bs.
I approve this rumor

Well if it is true then it is all but guaranteed that Sony will be one of the selected manufacturers, after all the code the have contributed to aosp and the praise they got from Google.
Sony nexus sounds nice! Nex-peria anyone???

I really hope this turns out to be true. I'm excited. It's a win win for consumers. More choices, less skins and less restriction.
Winning!

And only GSM and carrier unlocked!
Not such good news for sprint/vzw users in the u.s. but for everyone else its great!

4 of them will probably be tablets

This sounds like it could be very successful.. but Google needs to make sure that each and every one of those devices gets updated in a timely fashion. As in one Nexus doesn't get updated a month before another. Or even better, if every update was pushed to all five simultaneously. Looking forward to hearing more about this.

Agreed, the carriers in America have way too much say in what manufacturers do.
Thankfully its not like that here.
I mean how many variations of the galaxy s were there!?!?

Fragmentation for kernels devs yes. ROM devs shouldn't have much trouble making their work compatible across multiple pure Android devices.

I STILL DON'T HAVE AN ICS UPDATE.
Google really needs to get their crap together. ICS still out and one phone officially has it. Now this is coming and although it's not confirmed, this is still ridiculous. It would be nice to see tablets running the new upcoming OS but where do the phones play a role in this? I thought the OEMs where the reason for fragmentation but it is proving that Google is the kingpin behind all of this.
I love android but I like to be up to date and it's becoming harder and harder as Google gets more and more powerful. We shouldn't have to get a Nexus to be up to date. Fragmentation really needs to be fixed.
It will not be out for like a year.google has not even said it's going to be called jelly bean.

Another reason to only get google phones. The GN will be updated right away, we will have to wait 6+ months.
If history holds true then we won't get it at all. Both the vibrant and the sgs4g only got one official update. If the galaxy s3 and 5.0 get released around the same time I would bet on Sammy not upgrading the s2. Its sad and disrespectful to their fan base but that's how it has been for the tmo galaxy line so far.

Google just needs to get its act together with android updates.
You can bet your ass the next apple event will highlight how all their devices are updated while only a slim % of android phones run the latesr version.

I don't think this will be for phones but who knows. Also Google hasn't t officially said this will be for mobile phones or clarified the name. I think the people who suffer the most are t mobile users who would love to have a GN but were cut short by Google and t mobile. If Google is going to spoon feed their number 1 device it should be on all carries under the sun. This was one of my concerns of getting a gs2, i love the phone i just wish Google and these carries would get there act together.

Well its really easy if your devices and product all run similar hardware. apple iphone and ipod touch all run similar hardware. Drivers are mostly the same with slight changes.
Unless google says only restricts to certain hardware like tegra 2 and tegra 3 for tablets. and what ever processor for phones this won't happen. Essentially google did their job once they released source. It now up to Htc, Samsung , lg, and moto do their job and make new drivers from source.
Also another reason is carriers. The samsung galaxy 2 is the same phone through out europe on different carriers. Htc could of did the same thing with the sensation and use a apq8060 so it could essentially be a a world phone. You could essentially switch out the modem and still use the same processor. This would make it easier for updates. But U.s carriers want to brand them. Put certain restrictions for them. Also add all their bloatware back in.
Google alliance thing was something google promised but in the end they can't make it happen. You can't make carriers update your device. If they dont think its important enough so they can make money off of it then they wont update it.
T-mobile is one of the worst when it comes updating devices. I been on all the other major carriers and i seen even them release even incremental updates for phones that I thought no one uses on other carriers. Tmobile will have their flagship device with bugs for at least 6 months till they decide to update it.

I con tolerate touchwiz more than i can tolerate sense and blur. Touchwiz looks closest to stock android. So maybe it will be lighter and lighter over time. The only thing i dont like about touch wiz is the actual launcher. The rest dont really bother me. Sense 4.0 and ics make me not ever want an htc device again. Blur is just disgusting and all it does is bog the phone down.

This was my point exactly. Google keeps saying one thing and doing another. ICS was supposed to make things uniform and I do remember the talk about slowing down all the theming or skins done by oem's. Doesn't look like anything is slowing down. Manufacturers dropping phones non stop and all the adopters of the product are left with no update. It seems as if as long as Google is getting the advertising money....all the companies can run a muck.
I have to admit the third portion of this is the cell providers just being greedy by not updating and forcing you to want to upgrade.

Should I buy VZW Galaxy Nexus or wait?

Ok so I have an iPhone 4 that I am sick of and I am not eligible for an upgrade until July 2013. The Toro is pretty cheap on ebay and it looks like the Nexus 4 will not be available on Verizon. Should I pull the trigger?
And If I do, will it cost any extra to switch from a 3g phone to 4g?
Any input is appreciated :good:

If nexus 4 isn't going to Verizon there is no point in waiting to buy another phone. I'm eligible for an upgraded in January and I just bought the gnex. My main reason is that the nexus 4 has 16 GB of memory and no SD card slot. That isn't enough for me. I can use cloud services but since sprint internet speed is the worst in my area that is not an option.

I love helping others to be honest, Been helping for sometime now, but 'm not going to compare resume's with you. It is much better if people learn to form their own opinions than to simply be told what they should do. Yes I come off as strong but it was not intended as an attack on the user. Lets say someone posts what he should do and he does it and is unhappy with the result? All the information he asked for is available easily from the search box with a dozen of these 'should i buy...." threads with plenty of user opinions in them.

Some people have hinted that there will be a Verizon N4 released in January.
If you like to flash different ROMS and want to have the latest version of Android definitely go for the GNex. If you're mainly use stock Android and don't want to tinker with your phone too much than you should probably wait as there will probably be new phones coming out in the next few months.

My mom went from her 3G HTC Incredible 2 to the 4G Moto Razr, and she's still on her unlimited data. However, maybe you are working with an incompetent rep (which is always the case when their goal is to kick you off the unlimited plans), so ask before you ask them to do anything in regards to switching over from phone to phone.
Edit: after readin the OP, I don't even know if he has unlimited data. Furthermore, I don't know what the dilemma is. Buy the Gnex or wait for....??? Unicorn Nexus????

How long ago did she do it, though? Round about the time the Droid Razr was their flagship handset, unlimited data was still an option, but is no longer the case. Currently, the only ways to keep unlimited is pay full retail or byod. Buying a subsidized device requires a plan change from unlimited and cannot be overridden by a CSR.

From what I've read the Nexus 4 is never coming to Verizon so waiting gets you nothing. I guess you could hold out for the next VZW Nexus device but who knows when that will be.
I would not hesitate one second to pick up a used Nexus. It's a win all around as they relativity cheap and you don't have to deal with contract extensions. If you can keep your unlimited data then it's a no brainier.
As far as the phone itself goes, the ability to run pure Android, open bootloader, the dev community, and being able to flash the last ASOP as soon as it drops make it the best option out there.

I used to have Verizon and now have sprint and struggling with school and full time job I sometimes forget to pay my bill. Verizon financial service cuts my service then makes me pay the re activation fee but with sprint I can call and tell them I can pay next week and they simply say okay.
But no 4g lte sucks but they do update the gnex rather quick.

Wth does that even mean? The binaries are not under an open source license.
*and again Sprint doesn't have anything to do with how the binaries, or anything they don't own, are licensed.
They're not entitled to but maybe seeing that others want the binaries and that people still care maybe they'll do it.

They (Sprint) cannot do anything about no matter how many people request it from them. If you could actually get a response from Sprint it would either read "We don't know what you're talking about" or "We do not have control over licensing of other companies intellectual property". Read the licenses for the binaries. The companies you are entering an agreement with are Broadcom, Imagination Tech, Invensense, NXP, Samsung, Wildvine, & Google. Notice none of those companies are Sprint and none of them use an open source license because they are proprietary (read closed).

Is that the same problem as when you can not get any data on first boot and things like that?

Wth does that even mean? The binaries are not under an open source license.
*and again Sprint doesn't have anything to do with how the binaries, or anything they don't own, are licensed.

Means he has no idea how to respond to you, but throwing some tech related words and "open source" around sounded like a pretty good reply. I'm not even sure there's enough people that own a Galaxy Nexus on Sprint, let alone know what binaries are that would sign such a petition. Aside from that, the White House would say in 1-2 years something like "We can't make Sprint do crap (who has nothing to do with it to begin with), because they're not part of the government."
Kinda thought this thread would have been dead by now

Sprint took me off of contract onto m2m because of my complaints.

Didn't see a thread for this so here you go.

This is blogspam.
Just go directly to the source article:

Does it really matter when samsux releases the update. T mobile still has to push it. And dancing on the broken record line, as long as people selling new phones control the updates..........
Master blaster still runs Bartertown

Sigh, still kind of vague. I'm waiting for the push backs of December then they will say early 2014. Feels bad man.
Just smoke signals. It is getting old to be left behind on updates with new phones. Time for carriers to focus more on updates rather than sales.

While I tend to agree,
Updates don't make money for carriers, phone sales do. Why would they change that dynamic?
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

Because happy customers=repeat clientele. Although I've never been a big Apple fan, I now realize how important Steve Jobs was to the tech industry.
If you want updates get a nexus, otherwise be happy with your cool big screen phone with a pen

What a good consumer you are... surely every corporation would dream that the entire world be filled with carbon copies of you.

Maybe it's just this will be the third time I have gone through this. First with the behold 2, was promised to us that we would get froyo, which never happened. Second with vibrant, which was promised gingerbread, which also never happened. After that I went through nexus s, nexus s4g then galaxy nexus. Gnex was a bad daddy phone that still can hang with the newest. I was on the fence whether to get nexus 4(which my wife has) or the note. I decided that the screen and pen were more important to me then having newest software. I knew 100% what I was getting into. In the past I have complained to tmobile, signed petitions, complained to samsux, with null results. You may call me a corporate sheep, while I call myself an educated consumer.

Although Samsung is grosley behind the Nexus line up. To be fair Samsung probably has the best track record in terms of updates. The GS2 is still being supported and rumored to get 4.3. And T-Mobile ain't bad seems like we get updates faster than the other US carriers. Although I am using At&t note on T-Mo. Who cares I am sure I will get 4.3 long before official update from any carrier.

one scenario would be once samsung releases the final build -- cyanogenmod gets ahold of it and and puts together a tmobile port for it -- and they start charging for roms maybe. they are in business now to make money and their stable roms tend to be just that.. i'd pay a reasonable amount for a stable rom with all the bells and whistles. I said CM since they went public as a corp- other modders have great roms too

Doubt cm will port an OEM ROM, and especially now that they are technically a OEM. Their goal is to sell the cm experience. Now that they are a corporate they are now for profit. Now no one knows exactly how they are going to acneive that goal. Ads, teaming up with an OEM like Google does with lg and has done with Samsung and HTC. Maybe they will have their own app store. Maybe charge for the installer. Who knows

Some what good news, there is a 4.3 leak for att note 2. No root method yet. I definitely don't recommended flashing if Cuz it will have ARF modem. I plan to flash soon. I have unlocked att note. Pretty sure if a leak doesn't come out there will be flashable zips soon which will make its way to T-Mobile

Where did you hear of the leak? I haven't seen it yet
