Ok so I have an iPhone 4 that I am sick of and I am not eligible for an upgrade until July 2013. The Toro is pretty cheap on ebay and it looks like the Nexus 4 will not be available on Verizon. Should I pull the trigger?
And If I do, will it cost any extra to switch from a 3g phone to 4g?
Any input is appreciated :good:

If u don't like to help others what r u doing here. He/She is only asking for advice. You should learn to be respectful.
If nexus 4 isn't going to Verizon there is no point in waiting to buy another phone. I'm eligible for an upgraded in January and I just bought the gnex. My main reason is that the nexus 4 has 16 GB of memory and no SD card slot. That isn't enough for me. I can use cloud services but since sprint internet speed is the worst in my area that is not an option.

I love helping others to be honest, Been helping for sometime now, but 'm not going to compare resume's with you. It is much better if people learn to form their own opinions than to simply be told what they should do. Yes I come off as strong but it was not intended as an attack on the user. Lets say someone posts what he should do and he does it and is unhappy with the result? All the information he asked for is available easily from the search box with a dozen of these 'should i buy...." threads with plenty of user opinions in them.

Gnex all the way.

Honestly I would just wait for something better. I like my nexus and everything... don't get me wrong. But there are a few other smart phones that can do just the job. I say this because I'm not a big ROM user or mod. I just use stock and hope for the best.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Some people have hinted that there will be a Verizon N4 released in January.
If you like to flash different ROMS and want to have the latest version of Android definitely go for the GNex. If you're mainly use stock Android and don't want to tinker with your phone too much than you should probably wait as there will probably be new phones coming out in the next few months.
You will have to change your plan to go to 4g. If you have unlimited you will lose it

My mom went from her 3G HTC Incredible 2 to the 4G Moto Razr, and she's still on her unlimited data. However, maybe you are working with an incompetent rep (which is always the case when their goal is to kick you off the unlimited plans), so ask before you ask them to do anything in regards to switching over from phone to phone.
Edit: after readin the OP, I don't even know if he has unlimited data. Furthermore, I don't know what the dilemma is. Buy the Gnex or wait for....??? Unicorn Nexus????
If you buy a used nexus, you will not loose your current plan with verizon, i just bought one 2 weeks ago, went from3g phone no change.

How long ago did she do it, though? Round about the time the Droid Razr was their flagship handset, unlimited data was still an option, but is no longer the case. Currently, the only ways to keep unlimited is pay full retail or byod. Buying a subsidized device requires a plan change from unlimited and cannot be overridden by a CSR.

From what I've read the Nexus 4 is never coming to Verizon so waiting gets you nothing. I guess you could hold out for the next VZW Nexus device but who knows when that will be.
I would not hesitate one second to pick up a used Nexus. It's a win all around as they relativity cheap and you don't have to deal with contract extensions. If you can keep your unlimited data then it's a no brainier.
As far as the phone itself goes, the ability to run pure Android, open bootloader, the dev community, and being able to flash the last ASOP as soon as it drops make it the best option out there.

Ok guys, here's my "delimma". I have an upgrade available to me. I've been wanting a gs2 since it came out in Europe. I had every intention of getting this within the first week it came out on tmo. BUT, reading about all the issues with lines on the screen, resolution, etc, I'm skeptical. It's basically going to be this phone or I'll cancel my line (I'm on a family line). I havent had a chance to play with one in person yet. So, in the meantime, I'm trying to gather opinions on the phone.
With all that being said, if you had a chance to relive Wednesday or whatever day you bought the gs2, would you buy it again?

I am eligible for an upgrade to my iPhone 3GS from AT&T. Picked up a Galaxy S II and ported my number over to TMO. Almost everything about this phone is better than my old iPhone. Couldn't be happier. Oh, and I'm paying less for my plan, too!
Yep, I can relate to some. I tried the epic 4g touch version on sprint. If I could swap the internals with that it would be more awesome. As it stands though, once root is here and I can tether I'll be stoked. As of right now I'm happy with it. It feels solid and has a professional look and feel to it.

Here is why they HAD to drop the price.
1. The S III is out and beats the Nexus in almost every Arena.
2. It's starting to be dated.
3. The one on the Play Store is cheap also.
4. They need to give a tug.
5. Better then $300.
6. Why do u care about this??? It's good. More ppl will buy the Verizon Nexus.
And now here is my question.
The one on Google Play is $350. That is half the price when it was first released.
So are u gonna say Google is treating there pride and joy like garbage Cuz it's the cheapest thing u can get off contract???

I think you (CLEARLY) had the OP at #1. especially when you consider they even offer an unlocked "Developer" version.
Case closed, any more goofy questions/statements/threads? (OP?)
I am currently on the Telus network and have been using the Hercules for almost a year now. Fantastic phone, love the community and love all the development that has gone on and evolved with this phone.
I just saw today that Telus is currently offering the Galaxy S 3 for $0.00 on a 3 year contract. This leads to my next question. Should I stick with what I have, or switch my plan and upgrade to the S 3 for free?
Thoughts?
I would stick with the S2. Our phone can be just as fast as the stock S3 with custom ROMS.

That's very true. My wife has the S3 unrooted and my phone runs smoother, especially on an AOSP ROM.
I wonder how fast the S3 runs on a custom ROM though, I would assume even faster than ours.
I would have to check with the provider though, I think if I still have time on my contract I may have to pay out my device balance to upgrade, if so then there is no point in upgrading. I am content with what I have, but for $0 to upgrade, I would be compelled to do so.

I don't think the North American version of the S3 is enough of a hardware upgrade to sign a 3 year contract on, especially with more impressive devices on the horizon. If there isn't anything concrete about a Nexus phone on T-Mo or AT&T by the time the Note 2 drops, I'll probably grab that.

I have NO CONTRACT! xD
Despite how much or how little you can get another phone for if you feel like a change then do it. If I had an opportunity to get an S3 for $0 I would definitely do it no question! In another year or two the S2 is going to be ancient anyways and despite what anybody says, they're all going to upgrade eventually as technology gets better.
What's the worst?? You'll sign a 3 year contract..... Is that it??? Unless you're going to switch carriers anytime soon that shouldn't even be an issue.
The decision is all yours but if it was me.... I would HANDS DOWN!!
Hi, just wondering if there are any loopholes that have worked for anyone in the past.
I'm really interested in either the Nexus 4 or Note 2. I love the S2 but I dont have an upgrade until Jan 2014 and these new phones are just so intriguing. I definitely don't want to pay a non contract price for these phones, but was hoping to sell my S2 and use it to buy a new phone at hopefully a good price.
Any advice?
not sure of any loop holes. most companys make sure there are none.
i say sell the s2 and get the n4. with the price being so low its worth it.
I looked up on the sprint buyback program and they'll give you $85 for the e4gt.

I love the hardware of my epic touch but I know we can do better in regards of software. Jb leak is proof of that and what is likely to come. However I am getting tired of running gb. Having a nexus 7 tablet doesn't help my case when i get constant updates as soon as good drops new source. I am hoping I can hold out for the jb update or even a newer leak. But if not I would love to find a way to get a sg3 for cheap. And I don't really want to add another line.

I used to always buy my phones out of contract, I would ebay my phone, get paid apply that $ towards my new phone and ship the old one out. I would usually ship the next day so I wasn't holding up my buyer.
These days I just buy from Craigslist. Picked this phone up for 240 around mid summer, I think.

I agree with this, I bought my sgs2 in June for $220 off contract (used). It came in great shape and working perfectly. I'm thinking I'll keep buying phones this way - just wait for them to be ~9 months old and you can get them for the upgrade price. This way if a new phone drops that I just have to have I'm always ready with the upgrade. Also if I somehow kill my current phone I don't have to worry about carrying insurance, just use my upgrade on whatever's out.
The only thing better is direct from Google pricing, which I may switch to but I will loose some coverage in my state by leaving CDMA so I haven't decided on that yet.

I've heard that people sold their current phones on Craigslist, used that money towards buying out the rest of their contract then upgrade.
Or sell on Craigslist and use that money towards buying one you want on Craigslist. Either would cost around the same

I wonder what happened to calling the retention center and threatening to leave the sg2 and the countless problems the ICS update I would think would be a great bartering chip to try and get retention to let you upgrade to the sg3 either cheap or for nothing.

Hah, I can assure you, after 20 phone calls, they don't give a **** about their customers.
I've had my account open with sprint since 1991.
There are 5 lines on the account.
They have made ~$50,000 from my family.
Yea, no, I will switch to anything better as soon as possible.
Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to flash to a different carrier such as virgin mobile, straight talk, boost mobile, cricket, etc. Prepaid, something cheaper than $80-90 a month for unlimited everything. Also, will they blacklist or give my phone a bad ESN if I don't pay my bill? I just started my contract. Thank you.

If they did not get their end of the bargain, you won't get yours too, so pay your bills or just pay the ETF and sell off your phone.
You can flash it to other CDMA carriers, search for it around here.
So they WILL blacklist/bad ESN?

Blacklist only works per carrier. Verizon blocks Verizon, sprint blocks sprint etc. Cricket wont block a Verizon phone.

For the time being, this is half true. Nationally, a carrier independent database is currently in works. Per CTIA's last report to the FCC on the subject, the GSM database was complete Oct 2012 and the LTE database will be up and running this November. Additionally, both VZW and Sprint are currently participating in multi-carrier databases that are a bit more limited than the one that will roll out later this year. Coupled with this, the FCC is championing legislation that will criminalize modifying a device's IMEI to circumvent blacklisting.
So, my bill is due today. I want to flash it to cricket and Really want to keep my number. Will it work?

No. Don't sign a contract you don't intend to fulfill.

More than likely Verizon wont release your number if you owe money. Cricket will gladly give you a new number if your old one cant be ported.

No. They will not release a number when you still owe them a considerable amount of money. Furthermore, this isn't something that will just go away. You will get hounded for the money you owe. First by Verizon, and then by a third party debt collector. It will negatively affect your credit and there exists a possibility that a court judgment could be sought against you. On the off chance it comes to that, you'd be looking at owing more than the past due amount and ETF.
Have you tried calling Verizon and working with them to adjust your level of service to something you can afford at this time? Another option would be to sell the phone on Craigslist and use that to pay down the ETF. You could then get a prepaid phone which will assist in keeping your usage manageable until you're in a better situation financially.
Just a small example of how and why our economy is so f'd up.
good day.
Unless you don't care for the carrier, call them and see if you can work something out, like splitting your bill over two months and changing the plan.

I'm pretty sure that when I was in the military, I learned how to manage my damn finances.

I think there are 2 points here:
1. Berating strangers on the internet is just as unwise and unjust as doing so in person. We can't judge someone else's hardships and we have no right to try. Savings and planning can only go so far in the face of emergencies.
2. Solving financial problems by planning to violate your phone contract is also unwise and unjust. Contracts are binding (and if one person breaks them the cost gets passed on to everyone else), and emergencies are what savings and planning are for.
I, personally at least, think this thread is best resolved by saying: OP, I'm glad you worked it out with your provider without breaking your contract. Congratulations on your baby. Without knowing what emergency you are facing, I hope your next few months go better for you. Thank you for your service.
