ARHD is more stock so ARHD will take better pictures IMO> I could be wrong as I haven't used CM9. You can always get a camera app from the market if you use CM9.

ARHD definitely takes better quality photos as it's still utilizing the sense image processing for the camera.
The stock camera used in CM9 isn't anywhere near as crisp, and light sections are very blown out, the sense panorama function is loads better and the other features like group portrait are missing, along with the effects (although some of these can be replaced by 3rd party apps). I've compromised by using a stock launcher on AHRD. I don't like the sense contacts and menus, but it's definitely much nicer.
No noticeable difference in web-browsing speeds.

Camera FV is quite a nice substitute for the sense camera on CM9.

cyanogenmod has it's problems right now.....i'd wait longer. Stuff like echo issues in calls etc....
just go with ARHD and download ICS Browser + instead of using the stock browser

[Debate]What rom and why?

Alright.. so we all probably use virtuous rom, gingervillian, cyanogen or miui.
I wanna know why everyone chooses each one.. I've flashed all and am just curious to why everyone else chooses the roms they do.. what really makes you stay with the rom you have??
I run miui. To me cyanogen lacks full customization. And has no benefitial features over miui. I get same battery life and phone runs smoothly at 1ghz as it would on any other rom. ONLY issue is random reboots. Which is a theme issue not a rom issue.. And I don't care for sense roms.. to me they slow the phone down.. although I am waiting for cm7 to become stable before my first flash.
Sent from my G2.
Currently I am running MIUI. I'm still getting used to it but overall I like it. I love the UI. It looks clean and it's quick.
Stock post ota deodexed.... because every other rom gives me some sort of problem that there is no guide to fixing and I don't have the time to troubleshoot the bull****
Whats deodexed mean??

The 1.2Ghz clock speed from the God speed thread.
Anything higher than that affects my battery and I don't see any obvious benefit as I don't play any games that need a higher CPU.
virtuous because of eye candy and htc streams are awesome!!
which rom saves battery most?
I use CM6.1.1
I previously tried Virtuous because I always wanted a Sense phone but realized Sense actually sucks, well the messaging, gallery and dialer at least.
I use my phone heavily for A2DP bluetooth streaming and apperantly cyanogenmod is pretty much the best rom for bluetooth audio quality, also the added equalizer feature is awesome. Its just like the stock rom whish I loved since my nexus days but with just the right amount of customization.
MIUI looks annoying as hell, why not just buy an iDevice if your into that UI?

When you install an app, sometimes it comes with an odex file (i believe it's an extension of some sort to the app) When you are de-odex'd, it merges the extension (dot odex file) with the apk. The only reason I wanted this rom was to use themes for stock roms. I also found that it boots the phone up a hell of a lot faster.
Highly recommended for people who want the stock feel but like small mods here and there.

That's not a rom...
that's a kernel........... *facepalm*
I run Virtuous for a few reasons:
1. camera - the stock Android camera app is abysmal. Few options and not easy to use in the least.
2. music player - genre support is a big one for me
3. Sense - I use LauncherPro, but I prefer the sense contacts and other features.
4. I installed the 3D gallery from stock, so I have access to both. One other small benefit of the otherwise useless Sense gallery is a scrollable 'share' pop-up. On stock ROMs (or CM), if you have too many options in this menu, you can't scroll so you can't access them. Sense lets you scroll the 'share' list.

Not everything about miui is iphonish... and even the parts that are you have options.. the menus? I turn those to the standard grid. the icons? Not all are uniformed "squares" all thou the theme is use they are. But I actually am I fan of uniformed icons. I think it looks cleaner.. imho. What about miui looks annoying?? I admit the original launcher is lame. But I don't use it.. I think docks and notification bars are lame. I don't use either and rock adw.. swipe down for notifications and up for apps. plus you can't tell me miui lock screen isn't sexy..

what's your favorite camera app?

looking for stock camera app from the various roms out there...
stock Inc? Evo? MIUI? and if you could post up pics too, that would be great....
CM, which I'm running atm, uses the stock AOSP crappy camera...yeah it works, but would like a nicer UI....
I'm interested to see some responses as well - I briefly tried out CM6.1 stable and I thought the photos from that camera app looked better than the Sense camera photos. I'm not too worried about the interface as long as the image quality is good... BTW, is there a relatively easy way to switch out camera apps between ROMs that you know of?
Sense ROMs won't run AOSP cameras, and vice versa. That said, you can download the EVO camera from the Virtuous section of ROM manager. IDK about flashable AOSP cameras.

I like the stock camera app in Skyraider Athena (think it's the HTC Sense camera) but when I'm feeling artsy I whip out RetroCamera. Very cool app, ad supported and lots of fun. Just make sure you go into the settings and enable high-res pictures, else you'll get tiny little pics not good for very much.
It does take a bit of CPU to "develop" the pictures after you snap them but it's done in the background so you can keep shooting and it will just buffer them up.
Vignette is downloadable from the maket
I prefer the evo cam bcuz it has the button on the screen and it seems to take better pics but it could just be an illusion too

Lightbox is supposed to be the next big thing. Supposedly, it's an Instagram knockoff. Vignette is good as well!
Im on sense 3 from uber roms and the camera isn't that good.. i remember back when I use z roms they had a good camera.. also tried the latest MUIU and the camera is very good.. currently im using lg camera pro from the market wich has better quality than the gingerbread camera...

I prefer the EVO camera because it has touchscreen spot metering.
I'm currently using Inc Deck gingerbread and the SOAP is lacking. Not bad, but nothing special.
Camera 360 is pretty good but the spot meter is really center metered.
Focuses fast though

MIUI Camera rocks
I like the sense camera on SR4.1. Basic, but takes a pretty good picture with the touch auto focus and a steady hand. Also, PicSay is a pretty fun app to trick out photos of your friends and whatnot.

Anywhere I can get hold of the original HTC camera app?

Hi guys,
I ventured into the world of custom ROMs and whatnot for the first time the other day, and successfully installed CM9 on my One X. I'm finding the stock-ish experience far more enjoyable and responsive, and have managed to find excellent replacement apps for all the stuff HTC bundled with the device.
That is, apart from the camera app. I've tried numerous alternatives (Camera360, Camera Zoom FX, Pudding Camera, lgCamera, and more) in addition to the stock Google app and I think HTC's offering vastly outshines them all — particularly with their implementation of both camera and camcorder capturing from the same UI (ie: two buttons on the same page).
I'd love to bring that app back onto my CM9 One X, but is it possible? Is there somewhere I can download it, and will it work without Sense?
Hope someone can advise as I do tend to take a lot of shots and the alternatives are frustrating me.
Sorry you need the sense framework for it to work.

^^ Definitely won't work on Sense-less ROMs. BTW, curious if you found a comparable replacement for the HTC "Car" app/dashboard? That and the camera are the two items holding me to Sense ROMs.
That's a shame. I guess I'll stick with the default camera app for now, as Google's at least seems to be more responsive and starts up faster than any I've downloaded. It's a little ugly and the current implementation in CM9 is a bit ropey (volume of shutter is always on maximum), but at least it works well — if Jelly Bean eventually improves it a bit even better. Would welcome any recommendations to try out though.
As for the GPS question, as I don't drive it's not an app I've sought a replacement for, sorry.
For what it's worth, if you haven't already, you may want to give the eXoDized Revolution ROM [here] a try (by JDR0iD, not me!). It's an AOKP with just enough Sense retained to support the HTC camera! In fact, I was able to add back in enough to support the HTC Car app I was asking about as well. So I'm very happy with this, as it gives the look/feel/smoothness of an AOSP but without sacrificing some stock apps we want . Just a suggestion if you are interested.

[Q] hard to beat ARHD

Rooted my DHD a month or so ago and havent looked back since,,,
Tried a few different roms but for me i feel ARHD is still the best quality ,, everything works well, camera, audio, battery, speed etc etc
I really want to use jellytime (or icecoldsandwich for that matter) but feel its not quite as stable or dependable YET,,, do you think the camera issues along with a few other niggles will ever be sorted ?
Ice cold is pretty much 100% stable. JellyTime does have problems at times but its nothing a battery pull can't fix
Sent from PACman'd Desire HD
hows the camera in ice cold ? the picture quality is great on ARHD
Me too
I'm in the same boat. Happy with ARHD but been looking at others like Trickdroid, Jellytime, Pacman, Cosmic Sandwich etc, they all seem to have niggles like wifi tether or MMS or little camera issues.
If only HTC would release the ICS source for our device so developers could work without their hands tied behind their backs.
I'd love to move to ICS but the "what do I gain?" question doesn't have a good answer really.
Personally I'm using Sabsa Prime and the only non-fully-feature I can pick out with little bugs are the camera, namely hdr and panorama features don't work. Every else about the rom is brilliant in my eyes and still being developed. I use a different camera apk so don't have any real issues at all. Some posts I've seem refer to arrows not showing on keyboard (even though it's an option in the installer) but I use SwiftKey keyboard which is much better and arrows work with that.

I was also on ARHD until about a week ago because, like you, I was looking for a fully functional Rom with no issues. I finally took the leap and flashed Trickdroid, took me a little while to get it set up, but running great now, not found any problems so far and seems to run just as fast if not quicker. Worth a try if you've got the time just make sure you have a backup ready
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
is the camera on trickdroid as good as arhd ?
I too enjoyed ARHD for a long time and it is a great rom indeed. Only thing better I found is XGS Série's. Somehow it manages to make battery life even greater than ARHD.
I do admit I like sense, tried TrickDroid too and loved it, but battery life takes priority... Still, both ARHD & TrickDroid are both great roms also :good:

Okay well I might give them a go. I have a Nandroid backup(Apps+Data) I made with EXT4 touch Recovery.
Just on that, if I use the restore backup function, will my exact setup be restored? So, ARHD with all my apps and and settings etc? Just like rolling a full system image back on?
I have copied the backup to my computer as well to be safe.
Me too,
still living with ARHD 6.3.3 from Mike with several mods ...
for camera issues to improve performance, I also applying 0% compressing+720p video mod.
And use Camera360_ version 2.5.5 is for stable of capturing pictures, default stock camera for record video.
For the first time I use dhd, I'm using Android revolution, it's great for speed, camera etc.. but sometimes bored with standard visual, then I try CM7 but the camera was not hopefully for me.. No I'm using back android revolution...

I think the two are comparable. It's a little hard to call, because I had ARHD on for a while and wasn't "playing" with it as much so battery seemed great, but since flashing Sabsa Prime 8.5, with it's Sense 4.1 lite and all the beautiful animations etc I tend to muck around on it a fair bit, even still battery life is great.
It's definitely the best ROM I have tried thus far. (Well for me anyway)

[Q] Why CyanogenMode Does not have good Camera?

I have tried various versions of cyanogenmode .But None of it has come to my expectations in terms of camera. As HTC Wilfire S has 5megapixel
Camera its an asset to have that camera. How Can Somebody Compromise with it.
Can Anybody
Hellp me To find the Rom For CyanogenMode having better Camera as the problem is When i Use Flash First the Flash of the Phone Occurs Before the Photo is Clicked there is no proper synchronisation between the to?
HTC camera app is customized for best performance for our phone. Where as there's nothing like that for other NON-Sense roms.
You may not find the same quality with cm roms. You can use camera ics which gives pretty good images to me.

I currently use this RobotoMOD ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781391) and don't find the pictures any worse than from the stock ROM's camera application.

The stock camera in CM9 works fine for me and I don't miss any feature. The quality seems to be the same as in GB Stock Rom also. So what do you miss?
Of course the stockrom's camera is better than the CyanogenMods, eg the CM Camera doesn't have an autofocus ... And the quality's much better...

Back in the days of CM7 I liked my Camera360 which deffo had better image quality and a picture could be taken just by touching the display (now a problem when trying to take a picture of me and a gf, for example).
