looking for stock camera app from the various roms out there...
stock Inc? Evo? MIUI? and if you could post up pics too, that would be great....
CM, which I'm running atm, uses the stock AOSP crappy camera...yeah it works, but would like a nicer UI....
I'm interested to see some responses as well - I briefly tried out CM6.1 stable and I thought the photos from that camera app looked better than the Sense camera photos. I'm not too worried about the interface as long as the image quality is good... BTW, is there a relatively easy way to switch out camera apps between ROMs that you know of?
Sense ROMs won't run AOSP cameras, and vice versa. That said, you can download the EVO camera from the Virtuous section of ROM manager. IDK about flashable AOSP cameras.

I like the stock camera app in Skyraider Athena (think it's the HTC Sense camera) but when I'm feeling artsy I whip out RetroCamera. Very cool app, ad supported and lots of fun. Just make sure you go into the settings and enable high-res pictures, else you'll get tiny little pics not good for very much.
It does take a bit of CPU to "develop" the pictures after you snap them but it's done in the background so you can keep shooting and it will just buffer them up.
Vignette is downloadable from the maket
I prefer the evo cam bcuz it has the button on the screen and it seems to take better pics but it could just be an illusion too

I want to bump this thread. I'd like to hear what the advantage of one of another is.

I think its how it communicates with the sensor
Youre looking at a crackflashing troll with ORD
Lightbox is supposed to be the next big thing. Supposedly, it's an Instagram knockoff. Vignette is good as well!
Im on sense 3 from uber roms and the camera isn't that good.. i remember back when I use z roms they had a good camera.. also tried the latest MUIU and the camera is very good.. currently im using lg camera pro from the market wich has better quality than the gingerbread camera...

I prefer the EVO camera because it has touchscreen spot metering.
I'm currently using Inc Deck gingerbread and the SOAP is lacking. Not bad, but nothing special.
Camera 360 is pretty good but the spot meter is really center metered.
Focuses fast though

MIUI Camera rocks
I like the sense camera on SR4.1. Basic, but takes a pretty good picture with the touch auto focus and a steady hand. Also, PicSay is a pretty fun app to trick out photos of your friends and whatnot.

Just what the topic asks. Im just wondering what's some of your opinions regarding the camera with Cyanogen and the stock HTC camera and the camera that's on other rooms.
One thing that I noticed is that at least in my opinion all the pics I took with Cyanogen seemed more crisp and clear.
So please jot down your experiences with both cameras.

Revive...are there any discussions about camera apks and which people like?
I like the sense camera (at least the one on myns rls5 2.2).
I liked the tap to focus anywhere on screen and I liked how it took up the etire screen, the one on cm7 (rc2) looks dinky IMO, I never liked the vanilla camera (had it on mt3g)
and most acamera apks from market i dont like some take a while to start up which sucks when your trying to capture a moment.

Camera on cyanogen 6.1 does have touch to focus, I found that. It was GREAT option on sense version.

I'm not running cm6..If they do that on 7 I will be in love, yes the sense camera is amazing compared to aosp.
yes it is.......
I find miui to have the best camera app as far as picture quality is concerned.
cm7 is def. the uglier one, but in my experience it takes hands down the best pictures out of any camera i've tried.
i like the touch to focas on the sense roms, but i love the feature of being able to map your search button or the volmn buttons to take your pic in cm7 camera
cm7 takes much better pictures, but it is pretty damn ugly and it doesnt have tap to focus. you can always aim it at one thing, focus, then move the camera while still holding focus, and take the pic though.
I restore back to a sense ROM if I think I will be taking a lot of pictures. I think the sense camera takes better pictures, but what do I know
Yes, CM6.1 does have touch to focus!

On CM6.1 it does have touch to focus. Can't see why this wouldn't have been carried over?
Tap the power settings icon (dial thingy) and chose the 'Focus Mode' you prefer. I would have ditched this ROM if that was gone.
I actually flashed back to a sense rom from cm7 for my niece's birthday cuz I like the camera app better. If its set to 8mp on cm7 the picture doesn't take up the whole screen when viewed on the phone. But I found if I set it to 6mp wide on cm7 it takes up the whole screen. Either way, the picture quality seems about the same to me between sense roms and cm7. +1 to the camera button settings.
ok i love sense roms, and MIUI. i also like the CM7 alot. but i seriously DISLIKE the CM camera app. its always fuzzy, blury, and overall the UI of it blows(No offense CM)
is there a way i can get like a Sense camera app to work on it. or a different camera app thats better than the CM camera
cause i heard i can run netflix on CM7. but every sense rom is so outdated where i dont like it anymore on the old style from like mikz froyo 4.6 and myn warm rls5. i was really into the Virus gingerbread roms. but netflix doesnt work on them.
I bought Camera360 Ultimate. It works well, and has many of the options of the sense camera. Also, if you go on the amazon market today (5/22) retro camera + is the free app of the day, and also takes nice pictures, but they all have a retro look.

I doubt CM is going to take much offense to what you said. They didn't theme the camera app, it's the stock Gingerbread theme for the camera. If anyone takes offense, it would be Google.
If you want the MIUI camera on CM7, extract it from a MIUI rom, rename it to Camera [since its already an apk] then adb push / move it to /system/app folder.
So I have bounced from Sense roms to trying the ocassional CM7 or AOSP rom for about 2 years now...
I REALLY want to go to either CM7, Xplod, or similar AOSP roms but cant figure out if there is a way around or a fix for a couple things that just really drive me crazy on the AOSP vs Sense roms...
Is there any way to import the sense version of... or any aftermarket alternative to:
#1- the dialer. Ive tried Dial One, and another (forget the name).. nothing comes close to the Sense dialer in my opinion. I HATE that the AOSP doest do the T9 thing that would let you quickly find a contact by hitting the number pad.
#2- the gallery. I really dont like the 3d gallery that ive gotten on the recent roms. The simplicity of the gallery that came on the older Sense (and the synergy roms) is A+ IMO.
#3- the voice recorder. Not sure whats up with this, maybe just a bug on the Xplod rom I was using, but it would let me record but not listen to previous recordings. Had to go through "movies" to listen after I found the saved recording in the SD card with root explorer. lol.
#4- The Camera... tried to use titanium backup to install sense (htc camera) on AOSP.. no dice. FC city
Although this is only 3 little apps.. its some of the things I use most and really hate the AOSP versions. ... really love the sense versions.
My current DD is Synergy with Myn's theme. I love... LOVE... the look of the rom but its a little slow, doesnt notufy with the LED, has very limited kernels, and bettery life is sub par IMO.
Im almost ready to go back to the Evio 2 1.8. That and Myn 2.2 are the top2 ive ever had on the evo. If I could get the good parts of sense on the AOSP id be all set!
Thanks for anyone who can offer any help!
~dan
not sure on the 1st 3 but have you tried MIUI's camera? I know, its not sense but it seems to be the best IMO
thanks for the reply. I tried Miui, my biggest problem with that, is that it doesnt refocus with screen taps.
Im constantly chasing my kids arond trying to grab that "quick shot". The htc camera is awesome for this.
Hts video recorder also has a really good option to refocus WHILE recording, somthing I cant seem to find anywhere else with AOSP options.
I DO like the miuioption to touch anywhere on the screen for shutter though.
So for "#1", ive downloaded about 5 different dialer apps.. Go, Mydialer, Angel, Touchpal, and Ray...
One of those will hopefully hold me over. If there's any way to get the HTC dialer to AOSP that Ive missed, someone please correct me!
Anyone know if the 3.5 Sense Gallery will work on AOSP?
Go Contacts has a dialer like that, and it's has some decent themes. I like QuickPic for my gallery.

I like the MIUI camera but don't like that I can't access the front camera
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I use Fishbowl for my gallery as the Cooliris gallery that comes with CM7 is garbage.
Just FYI, the Amazon free app of the day is Contapps, which has a very sense-like feel.
Quickpic is my favorite, loads everything super fast.

ARHD is more stock so ARHD will take better pictures IMO> I could be wrong as I haven't used CM9. You can always get a camera app from the market if you use CM9.
ARHD definitely takes better quality photos as it's still utilizing the sense image processing for the camera.
The stock camera used in CM9 isn't anywhere near as crisp, and light sections are very blown out, the sense panorama function is loads better and the other features like group portrait are missing, along with the effects (although some of these can be replaced by 3rd party apps). I've compromised by using a stock launcher on AHRD. I don't like the sense contacts and menus, but it's definitely much nicer.
No noticeable difference in web-browsing speeds.
Camera FV is quite a nice substitute for the sense camera on CM9.

cyanogenmod has it's problems right now.....i'd wait longer. Stuff like echo issues in calls etc....
just go with ARHD and download ICS Browser + instead of using the stock browser

I'm currently running the NuSense ROM and loving it. But I'm about to get a tablet and would like everything to look and act similar so I'm thinking about putting an AOSP ROM on my HTC One.
I'd like to know how they stack up against the Sense ROMs in terms of performance, battery life, and camera quality. I assume I'll lose Zoe and the other awesome options such as slow motion. Is there any way to add these camera options back in?

The HTC Sense camera requires Sense framework so you can't get it or the features on AOSP. Performance, battery life, etc are pretty similar. What you could do is run sense on your phone, whatever comes on your tablet and just run. Nova (or a different launcher) on both. They'll look the same, but you'll keep the Sense features on your phone.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I'm definitely running Nova. I'd like to make it as similar as possible though but I can't do without the Sense camera options.

Thats probably your best bet. I love the Sense camera features too. I think the GPE ROMs might have the Sense camera because they still have the framework built in, but I haven't tried any of them. I think I remember scrolling through one and seeing it had the camera, but the gallery wasn't working at that time.

Speaker phone usually doesn't work on AOSP roms either (excluding Google play edition roms)

Speakerphone seems to be a hit & miss for some, but I've never had the issue. Before I flash over to AOSP I used all the main function, speakerphone, GPS lock, cameras. I can't say if that's why I haven't had issues with them working or not just something I did.

Well, maybe I should have been more specific. The speaker does output sound, but people usually can't hear me when I use the speaker phone (Especially in loud areas)
I ran nusense for about 2 months then switched to vanir aosp. My battery and performance are better and the features are awesome. Only thing I miss is the sense camera and tv app but I used it so rarely it wasn't a big deal

If you use the camera enough, losing ZOE wouldn't be worth it IMO.
