Hi Guys,
Couldn't resist the Nokia Lumia 900 so got it sim free from PHONES4U and my first impressions is its stunning. They had the white in stock so got that.
I have just got this phone so please be patient while I play and fiddle with it.

First Impressions:
SCREEN = Beautiful, Sharp and may I say looks better then my SGS2
Carrier = Simfree came with preinstalled settings for Giffgaff which would be of interest to UK GIFFGAFF Users like me.
APPS = Nokia's Apps are really good and a really good upgrade if you have an HD7 or infact any other phone.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND SOLUTIONS
1] Camera Mode Displays a Purple Tint in the center of Screen ?
Settings > Saturation > Change to minimum and SAVE Settings. Remember to save settings or it will revert back to normal.
2] Purple Tint on keyboard and pictures (as mentioned in the other post)
I don't seem to have it on my White Lumia 900 so may it was fixed, will keep posted if anything comes out of it.
3] No Sound from Phone Speaker
Try Resetting your phone, If it doesn't Help...
Play a sound and then Press the bottom of the screen between the windows logo and search button and if you can hear the sound its probably a hardware problem and time to get a replacement
PITCURES
I also got mine yesterday afternoon. I saw the marketplace had a Nokia and Orange section, however by the time I'd install all my apps from my previous handset late last night, I noticed that these Nokia and Orange parts of the marketplace have now disappeared!
Checked again this morning and they're still not there. Just applications, games and music. What do I need to do to get them back?
Try switching your phone off and on and try again......
Also You might have to reset it.. although the top action should do the trick

Hi there,
Thanks to all you ppl on the forum i managed to upgrade my brand new MDA Pro with UNI_QTEK_WWE_13077_130176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe as found on the ftp.
Speed seems better, and i like MSN....
Yesterday i noticed some green jittery lines along the righthand side of the screen (LS-mode). When i flip the screen to Portrait mode it stays in the same spot (then it's along the bottomside).
Looks like this:
. . . . . . . .
- - - - - - - - - -
------------------
_____________
It's moving, and seems to be active when i touch the screen or when the device is 'thinking'..
Anybody know what this is / how i can fix this?
I already tried searching the forum for 'green+screen' and 'weird' but nothing usefull turned up
Thanks in advance!!
Seems to get worse
When i try to play a video (TCPMP) it seems to get worse and the jittering goes like mad. It stays in a particulair portion of the screen (bottom in portrait) and takes up the space of about 2 startbars stacked on top of each other.
They look a little like status bars of some sort, anywauy, i don't want 'em :x
Please don't tell me to do another upgrade.. would be my 4th in 4 days, and it takes about 3 hrs to get it right (with installing all apps and settings etc). I noticed that spb backup doesn't like it when i try to restore my settings into another ROM than it was made in.. but that's not my actual problem >> green lines from hell IS
Thanks for your time,
murc
This looks like a HARDWARE problem. I get these in my PC before when the video card was on the fritz.
Anyway, if you don't want to hard reset, i cannot help you.
If you do hard reset and the same problem is still there before installing ANYTHING, then it would probably be HARDWARE unless you re-flash the QTEK rom....
Whaaat?? Just got the D*MN thing 4 days ago, treated it as a newborn child...
Anyway, i tried the 2 softbutton reset, same, tried the power/lightbutton reset, same, tried ClearStorage, same... Should i install another ROM perhaps.. any suggestions?
I noticed the weirdness showing up at the bootscreen (with Qtek logo), then comes the windows logo, which seems to be clean, and then pin-code-screen has it again.
Jorgee it indeed reminds me of faulty videocards on my PC.. aahhh noo, not again
plz advize
regards,
murc
yup.. probably hardware
hi.. well, installed UNI_TMUK_12032_120_10600_Ship.exe, same thing.. guess i'll have to take it to the local t-mobile shop and see if can get it replaced under guarantee...
Weird stuff though, never dropped it, bumped it, could it have something to do with ROM upgrading?

Make sure you flash it back to the correct ROM before returning it. hehehe
Maybe someone at the store twisted the screen MORE THAN 180ยบ (someone like the sales person) then stuffed it back in the box and turned a bind eye.
Thanks to those who earlier gave feedback on installing Froyo. I have since been workign on getting the battery to last longer and such. However three questions that much searching has failed to answer.
1. With the speaker breaking issue, my phone was made October 2010 and the speaker broke in around April. The service center fixed it no prob. Funny thing though was that I often used earphones, but only ones with 4 contact rings on the plug. The day it broke I had used my MP3 earphones with three rings and immediately after the speaker would not work. I had assumed that it was the use of the three ring earphones that broke the speaker. Not so sure now. So, is it possible to use any headphones (even ones without a mic) on a cell phone or do normal earphones break things when put into a phone?
2. What the bleeping heck do the different front LED light colours all signify??? Also, why do I get a dark red glow when reading at night from the LED (no, it is not reflected light)? Lots of bits and pieces but a nice list would be gold.
3. Where (and why) did the 3G widget go? It was there in Eclair but not in Froyo.
Thanks,
TME
And, perhaps one interesting bug that I would like to hear if others have experienced.
On three occasions my phone as reset / rebooted for no reason. I am tracking that down, so no worries, however my SIM chip is locked yet when it reboots I do not need to re-enter the SIM PIN. When I do a normal reboot I do have to enter it. Is this a bug??? Seems so as my original ROM was not like that and it does seem to be a bit of a security lapse. Thoughts???
It's normally called soft reboot that bypass the simlock. And this also applied if phone freeze and reboot itself. A hard reboot would definitely need the sim password. Another term used is soft reset and hard reset...

i know a few, but not 100% sure on some, like:
1. flashing green - incoming message.
2. flashing blue - incoming/missed call
3. steady white - battery charging
4. steady green - battery full or near fully charged (>90%)
5. red (not sure steady or flashing) - battery low
answer 2nd
I have same prob but that light red led is come from sensor part not from front notification LED .
I don't know why its on but it is coming from sensor part not from LED part.

you can download power setting free version from market and you can have all settings in that wifi/3G/brightness/bluetooth/sync etc..
Mine shall be here in the morning and I'm fearing the massive pain in my arse that is Orange branding. It has temporarily ruined every phone that I've had from them... I'd rather not have to go down the rooting and debranding stage
If its direct from Orange then probably, I'm with Orange but went to p4u this time as i wanted the white model not black, they get theirs direct from HTC whereas Orange get them in then add the extra bloatwear to it ....
Amazing phone though you'll love it
I got my grey One X from Orange direct and yes, it does come with Orange branding. You get an Orange logo during startup and shutdown along with an Orange theme which isn't actually orange colour oddly and the Orange Your Account app.
Apart from that, I don't think there is anything else they've done. Nothing I've noticed anyway. The only downside to having the Orange branded version is that you'll have a delay for firmware updates as Orange need to validate it and then add their customisations.

Ffs... I hope that we're going to have a way to remove it
I have just collected my new One X from the Orange store in Newbury.
An issue I have come onto this forum to search regarding is a weird issue that I see when using various vertical scrolling settings screens. The description of the issue is that, when attempting to scroll further after having fully scrolled to the top or bottom of the settings screen, there's an unpleasant (to me at least) effect whereby the individual setting rows start to break apart and black voids appear between all of the vertical rows. These all snap back and disappear when you lift your finger. What I would expect to actually happen is for the entire page to just scroll slightly, with just a single black void appearing at the top or bottom, when you attempt to scroll past the bottom or top end point.
The reason I've posted about this in this thread is because oddly I haven't yet found any other reports about it on here or Google (all I can find are references to screen banding or other screen defects). And, I think this is something to do with Orange's branding in some way. I say this because someone else at work who has his One X on Orange has exactly the same effect on his. Another person, who has her phone with Three, does not observe the same issue: hers actually behaves in the way I'd expect it to.
Anyone with a One X on Orange can observe what I mean (hopefully!) by simply going to the Settings application and attempting to scroll further up while the settings page is initially already scrolled to the top extreme.
People at work are the sorts who wouldn't be bothered about this and I guess most normal users wouldn't even notice, but me being me, it bothers me highly!
So, from what I can tell from my limited research (asking two people at work!) this is somehow caused by Orange's branding.
If this is discussed already elsewhere and I've missed it despite my searching, I'd appreciate a pointer.
either root your phone guys and install a custom rom to remove all the branding or just go into settings-apps and then click on all and then scroll and disable all the apps that came with the phone. what i mean disable the apps that you feel you do not need and disable them. that way they get removed from your app screens and are like frozen in the background like what TB does. hope this helps
I got the NEW & UPDATED Lumia 900(Green Dot) Here's what I found different. Good Job!
Just got home with the updated Lumia 900. They are identified by a green dot sticker on the IMEI label of the At&t box. Let me say right off the bat, the " Memory Management " issue in my humble opinion affected more then the connection issues; or I had defective hardware with my first Lumia 900.
1. The touch response is now equal to that of my Samsung Focus. One to two thumb swipes gets me top to bottom of the home screen. THANK YOU!!!
2. My WiFi will auto connect once I reenter a WiFi area I had accessed before with out me hitting " Connect"
3. Camera wakes phone up from sleep every time. It also wakes up faster then it did before.
4. When I have several apps open and I uses the back button to get back to the home screen, the phone no longer hangs on any one page, it simple flies through each till arriving at the home page.
5. The boot up time and shut down time of the phone has increase dramatically.
6. The response of the back button its self is better in general.
7. Looks like more web pages have been added to the stock favorites, Support pages via Nokia and AT&t.
8. None of the Version numbers changed, i.e OS, Firmware, Hardware, Radio Software, Bootloader, Chip SOC.
I'll post here if I find other differences. They told me at the store more then once the update is coming out on Monday, the 16th.
Had you previously purchased the other version, then traded it in for the one you have now? I assume you did, but wanted to see what hassle if any they gave you? What did you have to do to swap out?
Hey!!! Thanks for reporting!!

Boot up and shut down time has increased or decreased?
i don't know how much faster the bootup time can be, it doesn't even have time to cycle through the windows dots once before it's at my lock screen.
that being said, good to hear they have improved the device

LOOKS like the UPdate is live in Zune right now. I got it about 10 minutes ago.
Everything as Seek said...appears to be so....
There was no hassle, but they tell you they can't exchange it again. That said I'm unfortunately going to write Nokia. My original phone that I returned today had a speaker issue or I wouldn't have returned it in the first place. The replacement that had all the wonderful improvements had one major flaw, the vibration mode on it didn't just vibrate, it made an awful metallic/knocking sound. I had it home for 20 minutes and took it back, knowing they couldn't exchange it again. After about an hour and all the employees confirming the defect I was granted a 3rd exchange. This time before even leaving the store I activated the Nokia Diagnostics App and tried the vibrate mode, and in my opinion it was even worse then then one I returned. I however exhausted the patience of the staff member who helped me, and he was a great guy. I expressed that I thought it sounded worse then the other, and he explained that they had no other stock, and made me feel like they couldn't help me any further.
*** While typing this I just received a message that there is an update available for my phone. I have a green dot on my box and was told this phone was already updated***
Updating my phone now.
i updated as well, and still notice the lag, the back button as well, still unresponsive at times. even after hard reset. i'll be going to att in the morning to see if i can swap it out.
out of curiosity, what is the country of manufacture of your new phone?
Still Korea, my guess is they just tested phones at the at&t distribution point put a green sticker on them, and shipped them to stores. I ended up getting another replacement from a different store, with no hassle at all. It was a green dot box too, and it to was offered and received an update. I have used 4 different NL900's in the last 18 hours and I think my original one must of had a faulty digitizer. My original NL900 was so so to swipe, all that followed it I'm able to swipe my full home page in 2 thumb strokes.
I didn't have the connection issue, but did update my phone last night. The scrolling has improve and is faster now. Everthing seems to run fast and smooth.
Only thing is the camera button still doesn't wake the phone up at times but that is the same with my samsung focus s...hit and miss...last is the volume button...it seems that your not able to adjust the volume when the screen goes off even with the music playing in the background.
IF you have concern please dial ##634# and run test. This will put your mind at rest because you will be able to test each part of the phone out. Remember you can still return the phone and get a new one, if the test fail.
I'm hoping Tango release will fix all these minor bugs...
I noticed that volume can be changed with the lock screen on if its through an app, i.e. WPFandora, MixTapes, 8Tracks but not through Zune. I know it works with headphones, but not all headphones have controls on them. That said my crappy headphones sound way better connected to the Nokia then my Focus.
My camera button doesn't wake up the phone either after the update, should i exchange the phone?

Go to 'Settings' -> 'applications' -> 'pictures+camera' -> 'Press and hold camera button to wake up the phone' -> 'On'
And remember the camera button is a two-stage button.
The option was turn on and I hold it for at least 5 secs, still nothing.

First stage or second stage of the camera button? You have to press it all the way down, first stage won't unlock the phone.
I'm not sure that the green dot means they've updated. I just picked on up yesterday that has the green dot and I was prompted to install the update within 2 hours of receiving it.

they had said that not all phones were impacted by the problem. Perhaps they had a way to differentiate them. Hence the marker.
Green sticker simply means it was re-checked for hardware and software issues. The connections issue seemed to be the APN setting being wrong. Who ever check the hardware failed though. On my forth Lumia 900 and only my first one had a good working vibra unit. These other ones sound like metal clanking/rattle when they vibe. Nokia is supposed to call me today at 230 pm to discuss the camera issue, and the volume buttons not working with lock screen, and the vibra units sounding defective.
I'm very keen on buying this phone tomorrow and was in the ATT corporate store and found a very strange issue on the live display unit. Everytime I opened any app and hit the home button it would take about 5~7 seconds before showing the home screen. I tried playing with the settings but it did not help. I also restarted the phone but the issue still persisted. I new to android platform (coming from iPhone) and looked at the setting (related to personalize). After talking to the ATT rep he mentioned that few folks have also complained about it but was not sure why this happens. He then suggested that they will return this unit so battery can be replaced or we can reset the phone to factory settings. I took his permission and attempted the reset After reboot the phone worked normally with absolutely no lag.
Q1. Is this a known issue? Are folks with this phone experiencing this after a extended time of use. Does anybody know what this lag might be due? Any specific wallpaper causes this lag. I tried changing wallpaper but it did not help
I really want to get this phone but if the above issue is rampant then I want to hold off buying it tomorrow.
BTW: I tried buying it today at target (mobile store managed by radio shack) they were ready to sell and went thru the upgrade process but just before the last screen it blocked them from selling (radio shack corporate policy) cannot sell the phone today but will sell it tomorrow.
Settings -> Developer options -> Don't keep activities.
Some people have had to switch it on, come out of options, go back and switch it off. (the tick was incorrectly cleared, whilst the option was on)
thanks
Thank u for your feedback. Can u elaborate on what caused it? Sorry from your feedback I could not figure out the cause.
From what you described (7 second delay coming back to sense) it's not a lag (or sense crashing as some have described it). It's sense reloading.
The Android UI is based on activities, they stack, and the history is typically kept, until Android decides to kill an activity, usually due to low memory available. If activities are not kept, they have to reload from scratch.
Since Android can take away a previous activity at any stage, the developer must save its state when transitioning to a new activity. By not keeping activities, it's easier to test that each activity is correctly saving its state.
