I dont what's happened to my phone as shown in the picture attached the red light is active during active call and when i keep the phone near my ear the screen does'nt turn off, and the battery got empty just after 1-2 hours
i have to say that the red light is on just during an active call
That is the proximity sensor, it emits IR that can be seen on most CMOS sensors (cameras).
This has already been posted on cfX thread and then i found this thread. I have this problem without making calls at all, too.
Hi,
came from cfX to CM 10.1. did a dirty flash (cleared some apps data) without too much trouble. But there is one thing i encounter quite regularly after a dirty flash. Yes, i know i should do a full wipe but the fact that the problem occured already on YellyTime, CfX, a MIUI rom and this rom after a dirty flash makes me wonder...
its always the same: no problems at daily use but randomly the (i guess) IR sensor starts to glow weakly red on the top right corner behind the grill. As soon as it starts, battery drain is pretty high and there are only hours left for my phone. There is no obvious app with a higher than usual drain.
This is not a request for a fix, rather a call to the community out of couriosity
if somebody maybe has an idea he/she could save me from some full wipes (2 step auth is a pain here)
have a nice evening everybody!

after doing a full wipe and installing cfX SR2, situation got worse: now the phone screen stays black occasionally if the red light is on and i have to pull the battery. One thing i noticed is that it mostly happens when there is an internet connection
As has been said allready it's the proximity sensor, not a light.
Install Proximity recalibrator to adjust the threshold values.
ah ... i´ve read your reply too late. already did this

So Nokia is going to fix the " memory management " of the Lumia 900 to fix the data loss issue. I hope they also fix the following issues, and please feel free to add to it.
1. Volume control for music play back doesn't work with screen locked.
2. Camera button doesn't wake the phone every time.
3. In lower light (like 1/2 the lights off in an office) level the screen for the camera looks blue and like there is electrical interference. Like white noise on a TV, but blue.
4. Power management, when plugging into a power source it sometimes takes up to 10 seconds for it to chime and recognize its being charged. Also when it runs out of power it just shuts off, no graceful " Good Bye ". Also, it has no idea how much power is left. Will say 1 day 15 hours for a full charge, and 2 hours for 25% left.
5. The touch sensitivity is not as good as other handsets. It takes more thumb swipes to get top to bottom of home screen then it should. The screen should keep scrolling even after you remove your thumb.
6. The volume level of "1" is waaaaaay too loud. I like the max volume (30), but there needs to be something between "kind of loud" @ 1 and "mute" @ 0.

It was bound to happen.
I would highly suspect the fix coming will be extremely limited to the memory managment issue. Its the only way many assume the speedy release has gotten past AT&T testing.
The other 'bugs', are only bugs if Nokia says they are. Will they be fixed? Good question. I cannot imagine seeing them next week. Maybe in a Tango or pre Apollo release.
" Memory Management " is a pretty vague reason for something not working. I can see that affecting all of the above issues.
P.S> Also At$t is planning a update to Windows phones them selves that would present another chance for Nokia to use Firmware to fix issues.

The constraints involved in how they release this quick fix, I cetainly don't know...nor would anyone here. What you say sounds right, and I personally would love to see everyones issues resolved, do you reasonably think they will be on this fix update?

Nokia is pushing an update on 4/16. Perhaps it will fix some of these things - we'll see.

1. that's by design of the OS, so probably not. volume does change with screen off if using a headset with volume controls though.
2. are you holding it for a few seconds and pushing all the way in? i haven't had this issue come up personally.
3. that noise is because the camera is bumping the ISO higher to compensate for the low light, if you manually choose a lower ISO it should go away and also result in a clearer picture (but you will have to hold the phone more steady if you don't use a flash with low ISO)
4. i hope they can fix this one all other windows phones i've had have the charging chime come almost instantly after plugging in. the reason the time remaining quote is inconsistent is that it recalculates it based on actual usage, so if you use the phone heavily for a while and then check, it's going to show much less time remaining because it assumes similar usage patterns. it's the way the OS works and not something nokia can really change.
I get the feeling that Nokia, At$t, and Microsoft have a pretty tight relationship at the moment. Concessions are made, Microsoft backs down on over all updates in exchange for critical update to be expedited. Nokia pays a premium for At$t to adopt their flagship phone, At$t will let them expedite the fixes needed for the phone, and all of theirs investment to succeed.
One more issue I've noticed: The volume level of "1" is waaaaaay too loud. I like the max volume (30), but there needs to be something between "kind of loud" @ 1 and "mute" @ 0.

With the other windows phones I've tried if you are listing to music with plane-jane headphones, you can turn vol up and down with the screen off. The NL900 is the first one I've had this issue with. It's an issue cause I have plane-jane headphones that don't support anything but listening to music.

I think not. I hope so. In order for these things to get included, it means they must have been working on them awhile. Heck, think about it, for them to fix this memory issue so quick, they had to be aware of it....before the device went on sale. If thats the case, you could reasonably say, they shipped defective devices...knowingly.
I'm keeping mines anyway. Best defective device I've ever had....since my last android.
I also hope they give you an option to turn off haptic feedback of the hardware capacitive buttons in case it's not an OS limitation.

I notice this very clearly too but I've come to realize that if I change the setting of "Scenes" from Auto to any other different value (except Night) this problem goes away.
My assumption is that the phone is getting the auto setting to Night mode in lower light conditions (although it should be calibrated for even lower light because night mode is not really needed for a 1/2 light situation).
Lower the ISO or change your scene mode and I think this problem will be corrected. I use the "Landscape" mode as it seems to compensate well the white balance for internal conditions.

I got the NEW & UPDATED Lumia 900(Green Dot) Here's what I found different. Good Job!
Just got home with the updated Lumia 900. They are identified by a green dot sticker on the IMEI label of the At&t box. Let me say right off the bat, the " Memory Management " issue in my humble opinion affected more then the connection issues; or I had defective hardware with my first Lumia 900.
1. The touch response is now equal to that of my Samsung Focus. One to two thumb swipes gets me top to bottom of the home screen. THANK YOU!!!
2. My WiFi will auto connect once I reenter a WiFi area I had accessed before with out me hitting " Connect"
3. Camera wakes phone up from sleep every time. It also wakes up faster then it did before.
4. When I have several apps open and I uses the back button to get back to the home screen, the phone no longer hangs on any one page, it simple flies through each till arriving at the home page.
5. The boot up time and shut down time of the phone has increase dramatically.
6. The response of the back button its self is better in general.
7. Looks like more web pages have been added to the stock favorites, Support pages via Nokia and AT&t.
8. None of the Version numbers changed, i.e OS, Firmware, Hardware, Radio Software, Bootloader, Chip SOC.
I'll post here if I find other differences. They told me at the store more then once the update is coming out on Monday, the 16th.
Had you previously purchased the other version, then traded it in for the one you have now? I assume you did, but wanted to see what hassle if any they gave you? What did you have to do to swap out?
Hey!!! Thanks for reporting!!

Boot up and shut down time has increased or decreased?
i don't know how much faster the bootup time can be, it doesn't even have time to cycle through the windows dots once before it's at my lock screen.
that being said, good to hear they have improved the device

LOOKS like the UPdate is live in Zune right now. I got it about 10 minutes ago.
Everything as Seek said...appears to be so....
There was no hassle, but they tell you they can't exchange it again. That said I'm unfortunately going to write Nokia. My original phone that I returned today had a speaker issue or I wouldn't have returned it in the first place. The replacement that had all the wonderful improvements had one major flaw, the vibration mode on it didn't just vibrate, it made an awful metallic/knocking sound. I had it home for 20 minutes and took it back, knowing they couldn't exchange it again. After about an hour and all the employees confirming the defect I was granted a 3rd exchange. This time before even leaving the store I activated the Nokia Diagnostics App and tried the vibrate mode, and in my opinion it was even worse then then one I returned. I however exhausted the patience of the staff member who helped me, and he was a great guy. I expressed that I thought it sounded worse then the other, and he explained that they had no other stock, and made me feel like they couldn't help me any further.
*** While typing this I just received a message that there is an update available for my phone. I have a green dot on my box and was told this phone was already updated***
Updating my phone now.
i updated as well, and still notice the lag, the back button as well, still unresponsive at times. even after hard reset. i'll be going to att in the morning to see if i can swap it out.
out of curiosity, what is the country of manufacture of your new phone?
Still Korea, my guess is they just tested phones at the at&t distribution point put a green sticker on them, and shipped them to stores. I ended up getting another replacement from a different store, with no hassle at all. It was a green dot box too, and it to was offered and received an update. I have used 4 different NL900's in the last 18 hours and I think my original one must of had a faulty digitizer. My original NL900 was so so to swipe, all that followed it I'm able to swipe my full home page in 2 thumb strokes.
I didn't have the connection issue, but did update my phone last night. The scrolling has improve and is faster now. Everthing seems to run fast and smooth.
Only thing is the camera button still doesn't wake the phone up at times but that is the same with my samsung focus s...hit and miss...last is the volume button...it seems that your not able to adjust the volume when the screen goes off even with the music playing in the background.
IF you have concern please dial ##634# and run test. This will put your mind at rest because you will be able to test each part of the phone out. Remember you can still return the phone and get a new one, if the test fail.
I'm hoping Tango release will fix all these minor bugs...
I noticed that volume can be changed with the lock screen on if its through an app, i.e. WPFandora, MixTapes, 8Tracks but not through Zune. I know it works with headphones, but not all headphones have controls on them. That said my crappy headphones sound way better connected to the Nokia then my Focus.
My camera button doesn't wake up the phone either after the update, should i exchange the phone?

Go to 'Settings' -> 'applications' -> 'pictures+camera' -> 'Press and hold camera button to wake up the phone' -> 'On'
And remember the camera button is a two-stage button.
The option was turn on and I hold it for at least 5 secs, still nothing.

First stage or second stage of the camera button? You have to press it all the way down, first stage won't unlock the phone.
I'm not sure that the green dot means they've updated. I just picked on up yesterday that has the green dot and I was prompted to install the update within 2 hours of receiving it.

they had said that not all phones were impacted by the problem. Perhaps they had a way to differentiate them. Hence the marker.
Green sticker simply means it was re-checked for hardware and software issues. The connections issue seemed to be the APN setting being wrong. Who ever check the hardware failed though. On my forth Lumia 900 and only my first one had a good working vibra unit. These other ones sound like metal clanking/rattle when they vibe. Nokia is supposed to call me today at 230 pm to discuss the camera issue, and the volume buttons not working with lock screen, and the vibra units sounding defective.
Being an ex-Galaxy S1 and Galaxy S2 owner I was happy to finally have a notification LED on my phone. However I have found that the behaviour of the LED just isn't reliable.
When I got it a week ago it worked, then it stopped working for no reason, then it worked again, then stopped, now it works sometimes but most it just doesn't. I find the behaviour to be quite erratic and difficult to diagnose.
I tried using both the stock LED code and LightFlow (exclusively and at the same time) but both exhibit the same erratic sometimes-works-sometimes-doesn't behaviour. Totally unreliable.
This has happened with my original 4.1.1 ROM (stock, unrooted), then 4.1.1 rooted, then 4.1.2 stock unrooted and now I'm on stock 4.1.2 rooted. No different. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't.
Is your Note II notification LED reliable? Searching got me some threads on LED trouble (both for SGS3 and Note2), but no conclusive reasons/solutions.
PS: I checked the LED with the factory test code and it works perfectly there - it does not appear to be a hardware issue at all.
It works for me all time. Very reliable I'd say. And I'm a person who hates any sort of non working things. Like Smart Alert, which has literally stopped working for me. And like you, it works each time perfectly on test mode.
PS: I switched to LED Light Manager last week, but that doesn't mean the stock LED didn't work.
Swyped from my GT-N7100
My native LED works fine but it's pretty limited. Better than nothing. I like Lightflow the best but it interferes with/invokes the Note II Accessibility functions so I removed it until they are worked out. Light Manager seems to work but the only thing I don't like about it, that Lightflow has, is the ability to flash network status when you have good signal (i.e. green flashing LED when you have signal; Lightflow does but LM does not have this function).
Ideally I just want an LED manager to mimic Blackberry, flashing green in standby mode, and flashing red when "something comes in". I have no need for 18,000,000 color combos.
Cheers
I haven't had any issues with my LED notification light. It has always worked for me. I don't use any apps though. The most I do is go into an app and select the color I want the LED to flash. But that's already built into the app. But they stay on while my screen is off. If it's flashing, and I turn on my screen, then I believe they disappear. But to be honest, if it flashes and I turn on my phone, I usually check the messages, reply to them, or clear them / swipe them away.
So despite all the problem threads I found, 3 users with no issues at all, interesting.
I can understand that as for the first days the LED behaviour was accurate, but since then it has been quite randomish and I have been unable to find a pattern. Somtimes I have a missing call and have the LED blinking, sometimes I have a missing call and nothing happens. There is no easy difference between the two situations.
I will try LED Light Manager, never used it and one more shot won't hurt. Meanwhile I was starting to think that the LED unreliability was the reason why 99.9% of all Galaxy Note II covers designers don't bother to add a LED cutout.
Mine has been reliable so far.
The notification LED on my Note II has been very reliable, unlike on a past HTC phone where the light would either not blink or would not stop blinking.
All of my led are working fine
n7100
omega rom v10 perseus kernel 31
hit thanks its free anyway
It's working properly on my N7100 also.
No problems at all.
Now for the solution:-
1.You can try reflashing a rom (stock or custom)
2. Install ths.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koo.lightmanager&feature=search_result
This should override the stock LED functions and may improve it's performance.
No issues what so ever with the LED, I've never used custom roms/kernels on my phone though.
I'm even more puzzled than before now, as I cannot find a reason for the erratic behaviour on my phone.
Did you read my post and try my method?

Yes, I already had Light Manager. I also have LightFlow, but first started using teh samsung notifications only.
I find the same pattern in them all... sometimes teh notifications trigger/clean properly, some times they don't. Usually they don't.
I tried several combinations, Samsung LED app only, Lightflow off, Light Manager off, etc. And the same remains. The behaviour is erratic. Seen other users complaining about this in other foruns, but since it seems tricky to reproduce, no solution is clear.
I'l on 4.1.2 stock (bot rooted now) and besides de rooting my phone has almost no customization at all. Going for a full wipe/reset seems overkill, as it appeared to have done nother with other users.
Still trying to find out if this is a documented bug or just something specific to certain OS/apps.
I've noticed with Facebook messenger that if I get a message right as the screen goes dark and messenger was the last program on the screen, the LED will not light up. The phone must think I already checked it in that case. Other then that, it works as it should.
Mine works aswell
Mine never fails to notify me of events, but sometimes it lights dimly with no reason.
I'am still wondering why ...

The LED's glow bright if the ambient lighting is powerful, like in Sunlight or in a well lit room, and it'll be on the darker (dimmer) side when the ambient lighting is dark, like in a dark or low lit room.
Swyped from my GT-N7100
After about 3 weeks with the Note 2 I am still puzzled by the LED. I have days when it works perfectly (like you guys are reporting) but others when it just stops triggering and so far I found no pattern. Some code related to it must be really flaky. But when it works, it usually works fine...
All your LED are belong to us
So I haven't seen this brought up anywhere and I really find no rhyme or reason to it and figured I would post here and see what responses I get.
Been with my Note10+ almost 2 weeks now and overall i like it, but the lack of LED notification is one of the major downfalls to it; for me anyway. (Yes I know you can add them with apps etc.)
Now let's get to my question part. When my phone is plugged in and charging it give you the default readout with the time to full and percentage on the bottom as well as the 4 red LEDs in animation across the top camera. Every so often I will get a large circular LED flash just to the right of the camera. Sometimes it has flashed blue, and other times its flashed red. Sometimes it will flash and I will have various things in my notification bar such as an app update, and sometimes it will flash just cause it feels like it.
So has anyone else seen this or have any kind of definitive answer as to what that LED flash denotes?
And surely with there being and LED set under there, theres got to be a way to take control of that for notifications I'd think? Look forward to hearing your responses.
Sounds to me like you're using some other notification app. I've tried one which added the charging lights across the top, I don't remember which it was.. Arc lighting maybe . These are not standard. I'd imagine the flashing you're experiencing is related to whatever app you're using which is adding the charging lights.
Also there is no LED under the screen... the screen is actually made up of millions of Tiny LED's.

You have a 3rd party app installed causing that.
