Im guessing you meant to say you "don't" want to loose another phone this way. I really dont know what to do to be honest. you'll porbably have to cough up 100$ for a replacement unless you have insurance

Lol yea I "don't " want to lose another. I don't have insurance I'm not with sprint. I might invest into one of them external charging things they got. Even get crazy and hard wire it some how or modify a usb cord and extend the charging pins. Good thing I jus gave my brother my other epic.. Thanks for the quick responce

Erratic touchscreen while charging.

Has anyone else noticed this on the E4GT? I had this problem on my Evo when running Cyanogenmod, but not Sense. I've tried both the Sammy charger that came with it and my old HTC charger.
While charging, the touchscreen becomes erratic. It will input various places nowhere near where you're touching or sometimes not at all. It only happens while charging, remove the device from the charger and it goes back to normal.
Yes, there's a gigantic thread about this already. The gist of it is our touch screens are very finicky and if you use a non-voltage regulated charger (like inexplicably the one that comes with it) the screen will go nuts on it while charging.
I bought a Blackberry charger for it and it works perfectly while charging.
I'm going to punch a baby if I see another one of these threads!

Haha right!!! Damn!!

Never charging to 100%

Whenever i unplug the phone, the battery drops to 99%. Is it Normal or just me?

Happens to me too. Or if it does hit 100 it drops immediately to 99 the moment i take it off the charger.
Well It happened on my dad's E4GT too. But fascinate/OG Epic/Illusion/Evo 3d Which I own never did so!
Take a glass and fill it up with water until it overflows, think of this as your battery. Tip it just a little and you lose some, at which point you will not have 100% of the water anymore. The moment you take it off the charger, it would only make sense for it to immediately go to 99%

Are you battling the battery bulge?¿

I started this thread because of the increase in battery bulging/swelling/failure I have noticed in our threads. I hope this will help educate others (as well as myself) of things we unknowingly do day to day, that may be causing our batteries premature failure.
Do you, by chance, carry your phone around in your pocket? If so, you may see a bulge in your pants that you weren't expecting!
I have seen an increase in bulging batteries and premature failure in these threads. I have been using the OEM battery since release day of the phone. My son bought his E4GT and mine the same day. He carries his phone in his pocket, and I carry mine in an open holster. Besides this, the only real difference to how he and I use our phones are...
I'm a flash-a-holic, he's not so much. I charge my battery for the sake of charging it (never know when the next leak/ROM update will be) , he typically waits until charging is necessary.
About 5 months ago, or so, his battery started bulging and draining very fast. A couple months ago he had to replace his battery due to it not keeping a charge more than a couple hours (even when not in use). My battery size and discharge time hasn't seemed to have changed much, if even at all.
I have a hunch that premature battery death is largely due to the extra heat to the phone your body generates while your phone is in your pocket, along with no air movement to keep it cool..... just my 2©
I know there are many other factors to consider when addressing an issue such as this. Please feel free to post anything else that may HELP someone with their battling battery bulge and excessive drainage.
If you have experienced the bulging battery phenomenon, please let us know if you carry your phone in your pocket or in a holster, as well as anything else that may have contributed in your experience. This may help others in preventing premature battery failure.

I carry my phone in my pocket all the time as well since the day I got my phone.. But now I will try to start using a holster.. But thinking about it now I do think heat is a huge factor to these bulging batteries going bad especially in the hotter months

That's what I'm thinking too. I know some people tether and have their screens brightness turned way up etc.. That cause the phone to heat up too.... but they don't do that all day. I'm thinking one could get away with heat to the battery in small doses, but the extra body heat for extended amounts of time may be what puts on that last straw.

This was a good read. After many weeks of my sister complaining about her phone over heating after ICS update whenever it's in her pockets this kind of makes sense. The other night I fell asleep with my phone in bed and I happened to roll on top of it. When I awoke my phone was really hot till I sat it on my night stand for a few. Didn't even have to power it off. So maybe some of our phones are overheating and killing batteries while in tight spots with no air circulation. This is strange to me since I have never experienced it on GB. My sister has a Evo3D running ICS so maybe it's an ICS issue? Either way from now on I'm keeping my phone out in the open.

Also the cases would cause this. My case used to seal all edges.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I would also think having a multi layer case such as ballistic would be bad too. As you said you have a holster. Does your phone have a case and then clips in? I would think the layers on the back would also help build heat.

I was reading a something at battery university, and to the extent they said to put your battery in the fridge every once in a while to help preserve the battery.. Not like freeze it or anything extreme like that.. Just for maybe a few minutes or so.. Away from wet items as well

Yes, unlike a pouch, my holster wraps around the back of the phone and clips to the phone (always attached and easily detached) and it clips into the quick release holder on my belt, face toward body.

FWIW, the Spirit store told me the biggest contributor to overheating batteries causing them to go bad is the car charger.

Inconsistent or under/over charging from cheaper travel chargers have been issues for phones since they were made.

I think this bulge is kind of just a placebo affect. Complaints never came until JB was released with big battery drains.

Again, only from my experience.. my son mentioned in OP has never ran JB on his phone, but I do as a daily driver. He has only recently switched to ICS from GB. So I'm not so sure that the JB based ROMs are to blame for the physical battery bulging so much that one can barely keep the back on the phone.
JB battery drain= yes
JB battery bulge= not so much
As far as placebo.. That's one awesome thread in general... check it out.. you'll love it's effect :thumbup::thumbup:

Not that i completely disagree, but look at the life span of the phone and the timing of usable jb builds.
Coincidental timing for the life of the existing battery usage maybe?

It would be hard to point the finger at any build in my opinion.
How would you quantify a battery life cycle with not knowing build date, x's charged/discharged, etc.
New phone users, used phone users, 1 time owners have posted this very issue.
But i digress; I'm of the opinion that mass produced, non ISO certified manufactures are just as much to blame as a 5 dollar charger you can get at 7/11. But seeing as how i work for the only remaining source lead smelter in the US, i get a first hand knowledge of manufactures issues. (Speaking generally, not about nicad or lithium directly. An overall assessment. Manufacture process.)

Sounds like a failed charging port... Common issue. You'll want to take it up with warranty.

Yeah sucks but I only paid that cause I need my phone if It was going on and off I would orderd the part now cause its a 20 min fix . Part only cause 25 dollars to change charging port and mic board. Which is the easiest way to go.

[Q] Screen not displaying, otherwise functional

Okay, let me give the rundown.
Co-worker's E4GT, was running my GB27 Rooted package since the same day I posted here.
Told me today his display isn't working.
Battery wasn't charging so I charged it.
But after that I was able to flash GB27 Rooted Nodata again to rule that out. That's working.
Phone came up, MTP came up and I can even screencast.
Here's what I'm wondering:
1) Battery was still showing zero, so I'm charging again now to see if that restores display.
If I fully charge and it shows on screencast zero I'll replace it next.
2) Although screen shows nothing, phone is completely functional except that.
Audio, LED, even the digitzer responds to input! (It's a little tricky touching based on screencast but possible.)
Any thoughts on what this could be?
They apparently took it to Sprint but said there was water damage on it so wouldn't fix it. (I call BS on that by the way until I open the back case. That will be on Monday)
Hate to see him get a new phone when it works fine except the display itself. Thanks!

If its the LCD that's bad thankfully it can be replaced pretty cheap.
