Unroot and Restore Amazon KF Stock firmware - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone tell how can I Unroot and Restore Amazon KF Stock firmware. I need to return my KF to Amazon.

What's wrong with it? Why are you sending it back?

I need to do this as well. I'm returning mine for a very yellow screen tint.
Edit: Here, OP, looks like what we need! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399072

Reset to 100% stock?

Hey all! After rooting bricked my device.. I spent 2 hours of trying the shorting trick and getting into TWRP recovery.. I finally got a ROM installed. However, now.. when the Kindle is first powered on.. it shows the yellow triangle screen that says "press power button for recovery" for like.. 20 seconds.. then it finally boots into CM9. Is there any way I can either A) remove that triangle screen from showing, or B) return this thing to 100% completely stock so I can return it to Amazon?
I looked through the forums but all I can find are stock ROMs.. is there an RUU or something I can flash to reset recovery/bootloader/everything stock?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not quite sure what it is you want exactly. The "yellow triangle" is a modified bootloader (FireFireFire) that gives you easy access to your custom recovery for flashing roms and other maintenance. Without it access to recovery would be a bit more difficult and time consuming.
If it's the actual "yellow triangle" you don't like for aesthetic reasons, newer versions are less of an eyesore. Reverting back to stock is a rather extreme method of changing the bootloader and quite unnecessary IMO.
Are you sure you want to revert back to stock and lose root and recovery?
Well.. I didn't know the yellow triangle appearing every boot up was standard - I thought something was wrong.
I'm still having intermittent issues with the Kindle, plus I broke one of the little tiny plastic clips when I was opening it.. so I talked to amazon and they are sending me a replacement. I want to return the unit to 100% stock (unrooted, stock recovery) so they don't suspect anything. I'll just consider this first one my training unit :|
Google search "Kindle Fire software update", it will be on Amazon's website. Download the update and and rename the file so it has a .zip file extension. Then flash in recovery as if it were a rom. It would also be wise to clear out your sdcard.
Follow these instructions to flatten the kf back to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399072
EDIT: The link provided has a url to the Amazon stock image.
Thank you both so very much!

[Q] Can T-Mobile see what ROM/Recovery is on the phone if it is Hardbricked?

I was trying to revert my phone to Stock so I could play with Isis a little because I get to ride the public transit for free with Isis...
Anyway, after I flashed the stock recovery through odin, it got stuck on the "Samsung" screen while booting. At that point I was still able to reboot it and go into Recovery, and it was the stock recovery, but when I tried to reboot it again, it would still hang on the "Samsung" screen. SO, I had tried to re-flash the stock .tar file through Odin again thinking it would help, and while it was doing that, my lovely daughter came up to my computer and unplugged my phone... It shut off and wouldn't turn back on at all... Hardbricked...
So, after all that explanation, I am just making sure, because it was still under warranty and I am sending it back, can T-Mobile see what recovery was on it if it is hardbricked, or is that just like us to where they have to reconfigure everything? I am sending it back, and it does have stock recovery on it... Should I be worried that they will charge me for replacing the phone?
I know anything is possible, and you can't guarantee anything, I just am looking for someone with previous experience and get their point of view...
THANKS!!
It wasn't an S2, but I sent in a bricked LG mytouch 4G once that had CM7 on it and got a replacement with no repercussions.

8.9 Won't power on

Hi Guys,
I've been rooting android devices for a while now, and this is the first time I've had to post up a question like this... Can't seem to get the Kindle Fire 8.9 to power on. Tried holding power down for over a minute, not dice. 20 seconds, no dice.... I've done a search and can't seem to find anyone else with a 8.9 in this situation. I reached out to SkOrPn and he mentioned for the 8.9 there is NO factory cable to push into fastboot.
Hopefully someone can shed some light?
Thanks.

Sure seems like I did... I was hoping someone could confirm I did or may have a solution.
If I did it's my first brick! Kind of funny actually. I bought it at best buy.... Hopefully they won't give me too much **** trying to return it.

If you're in warranty, you're good to go. If not, you can always go the factory cable route, see the thread in my signature for the 8.9" #6 and Step 2.

Sorry to tell you this but if a KFHD is not powering up even when charged, It's hard bricked, But don't panic.
May i ask what tool you used to root your device, Because it seems to me that you used Kindle Fire Utility KFU, I know this because failing the rooting process can cause a bootloop but will not hard brick your device the way it happened, Only a damaged bootloader can cause the device not to power up, KFU attempts to install FFF bootloader which is designed for the original kindle fire and will damage the bootloader of any 2nd generation device and hard brick it.
What you need to do right now
Ship your device ASAP to Christian Bryant (XDA username Prokennexusa), At
Xerocomm, Inc. - 1684 Northstar Drive - Petaluma CA 94954.
I talked to him and he said if you ship it now it'll be done by the end of the week.
Chris receives many kindles so make sure you send him an email at [email protected]
Good luck

Anyone know how to fix a bricked FTV

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my firetv where it won't boot past the Amazon logo. This happened after restarting the system when I installed firetv Boot Menu.
Any help would be welcomed
Sorry I'm not likely to have a fix, but are you sure you unlocked boot loader before attempting to install the boot menu? This could be the cause for the brick.
Are you able to boot to recovery? If so you might be ok. I VERY TENTATIVELY say that if you can get into recovery from there either a factory reset or reflashing a prerooted fw might help BUT if you're able to get there PLEASE don't proceed till someone with more experience chimes in!
I will say that there's hope if you can get to recovery... probably? But this never happened to me.
Have you tried restarting with usb keyboard attached and pressing the print alt screen? Good luck.

hi,
I am not an expert on this matter but you should provide detail info exactly what you did to your Fire TV, the exact steps and sequence so folks can help you better.
In the meantime, check these all link out before you do anything. It seems few folks has some success see link 2 and 3 as always try it on your risk. I hope someone else can provide a better solution.

btw, if you are using amazon fire tv for xbmc as it seems most folks are using it for, i would just get Raspberry PI, it is awesome never had to worry about bricking the damn thing, sure it slower than fire tv but i have use it and i love it, it plays 1080 and 3d movies and no buffering either.
I also fire tv but i am always scared this thing will brick as it seems many folks have this problem.
Thank you

Thanks for the reply Klite, I didn't unlock the bootloader before installing the menu so that must have caused the brick.
I'm only able to see the Amazon logo, it does not reach the Fire TV Logo. I have plugged in a USB keyboard but i can't seem to get to recovery.

Hi Ashsha
I do mainly use my FTV for Kodi, I did previously use a Raspberry Pi but i bought this to replace it as i wanted something more powerful due to the problems i was having with stutters during play back.
Thanks for the links too, i did try them but i have had no luck so far.
Does anyone know if it possible to unbrick my FTV via USB using Fastboot or ADB?

That's a very good question. I know it's pretty much essential to unbrick a kindle fire but can't find any info specific to aftv. But you're motivation to get an answer is greater than mine. Do you have one?
I'd be confident in trying it with a phone or tablet but I just don't know enough about the variables (like could you do more damage sending power to somewhere that has an external power source)
My best advice is to be patient, keep looking for possible fixes online, but I'd caution not to experiment. Instead keep coming back here to get thoughts on possible fixes that might work. At the very least your thread will stay high in the forum search results giving you a better chance of having the right xda member to notice it.

If you didn't follow the directions and didn't unlock, then it is bricked and the only way to fix it is the hw mod to write to the mmc. If you have an A to A plugged in, on boot it'll stop in the bootloader and fastboot will work, unfortunately there is no commands you can actually run that will do anything. If you don't have an A to A plugged in, it will try to load the boot image. Since you didn't unlock, it won't boot the image, and it'll just die.
if all else fails, you can always go to amazon for replacement, remember amazon fire tv hasn't been a year old yet and you still have warranty for it, thats what i did with mine, i acted i didn't know what i was doing and suddenly it wouldn't load or boot up, etc.. u will need to know ur email adress or account thats associated with ur fire tv.. op korz .. they will do it... 100%

So what your saying is my Fire TV is dead.
I might just move on then to a new device like the Razor Forge TV when that comes out.

I'd love to return my FTV under warranty but i live in Australia and can't be bothered paying for postage to get it replaced
Just wondering if anyone has worked out a way of fixing this type of Brick?
Not sure was version of the software on, I'm hoping that it might be on 51.1.6.1 or 54.1.2.1
thanks

Depending on how much of the instructions you actually followed, and if your bootloader is 51.1.0.2 or older, there is a method that @AFTVnews.com is working on a writeup for that should recover it. But if the bootloader wasn't downgraded to 51.1.0.2, then it's dead.

[Q] PLEASE HELP! Update started on rooted FTV them unplugged.

When I got home I turned on the FTV and briefly saw an update prompt, ands then I must of accidentally hit the accept button on the remote and the device started to remote and update but I immediately pulled the power cord to prevent the update.
Now I have no idea what to do next. Is there anyway to stop the update when I plug it in ands if not, will I able to get root again?
Thanks for all the help everyone.

Do you have cwm recovery? If so you could boot to it and do a factory reset, then be sure to pm disable updates. For now I'd block amazon domains on your router but that's not a 100% guarantee. Aftvnews should have any info you need.
I don't think I installed CMW. Is there anyway to tell at this point, and if it's installed, how do I boot into it? I blocked Amazon updates with my router but recently connected with my phone's hotspot without thinking and it must of downloaded the update then.
Anyone have any other recommendations at this point? If I don't have CWM am I out of luck?

If you do have ClockworkMod, then you're safe because it will prevent the update from installing. A Fire TV with ClockworkMod that gets an OTA update will download the update, then restart the Fire TV in recovery mode. Since stock recovery has been replaced with ClockworkMod, it will just ignore the stock update.
If you don't have ClockworkMod, you can use the ALT+PrintScreen+i method to hopefully get into stock recovery without installing the update. From there, I would clear the cache partition and do a factory reset. More info on how to do that can be found here: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-unbr...ry-mode-and-factory-reset-the-amazon-fire-tv/
I don not know if that will work, but it's your best bet.

That's what I was hoping for. Thanks for the information!
So I connected a keyboard and tried for an hour or better to get this thing into recovery but with no success. I tried the ALT+PRT SCRN+I and it just won't work. It keeps going into the update screen and I keep unplugging the box. If someone can help me get this going I will PAYPAL YOU $20!
Otherwise I am giving this thing away.

It's thankfully never happened to me but just from reading here, it can be incredibly hard to get to recovery. They're mostly trying to get to cwm (which I believe you don't have?) But in theory I think it should work with stock...
If possible, try a different keyboard. If using a hub then connect it directly. Change your timing (when you actually press the keys) Alter between holding them down the keys and tapping them. And just for the heck of it, try working in the remote at some point (back button and right arrow for 15 seconds performs reset)
Sorry. It sounds silly but many people have needed to get to recovery and no one can definitively say what works for everyone. At least I don't think anyone can??? Good luck
