Why is it that I feel that SGW is somehow being phased out. A 1.4 Ghz processor phone but no ICS Support. It is not very much talked about nowadays which is a little understandable because of new phone releases. But what's worse, in our country (Philippines), price went down by almost 5,000 pesos. That's more than 100 USD and it's cheaper than Galaxy Ace!
I'm getting very much dissapointed buying this phone
i can relate
been to glorietta 3 days ago to find the phone (SGW) i bought just this december is already on sale at 12k (much to my dissapointment),gawd i spent 17K+ for this.. the only explanation i got (from the samsung saleslady) was that they are trying to compete SGW with nokia's lumia hence the price slash..
It's the first time for me to buy an expensive phone, and also is the first time I saw a phone price drop in less than 2 weeks, and its one hell of a drop..
What's to compete with Lumia anyways, Symbian always fail to defeat Android.
It shouldn't have been the price that was changed but the features i.e. ICS official rom..
No respect to the first customers who bought the phone.
Now when I look at my phone, I find it not unique anymore but a stupid rubbish.

Please dont be disappoint, we already have CM9 here, and more builds/ports are in pipeline, trust me. its an amazing phone.
Guys, believe me, there is nothing to be disappointed with in the Wonder......
It is a super phone, and it is far from being forgotten....
there is a very active Dev community,
and peeps who are willing to help in any way, to make users experience better.
Also, just to compare our Wonder with the Ace, here is a comparison from Gsm Arena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4114&idPhone2=4397
I for one am glad I have the Wonder, and of course we do have ICS, in the form of CM9, now in Alpha 2, from Arco, Dev extraordinaire!!!!
A 1.4GHz CPU Powered..with tweaks available here....I guarantee no regrets whatsoever....

Moral Lesson i learn is to wait until they markdown the price jajaja or see the review of other people.
Yes I know there's nothing really to be disappointed of if we are looking at the bright side, but I ain't . I wonder if the downprice would hit the market. It seems even with this low price, W is still very unpopular. Lacks advertisements I guess.
Actually I bought this phone second hand just recently for 11 thousand pesos. (Just a week before the down price). I wonder if he foresee that there's gonna a be a price bargain. Anyway, looking forward to master Arco's success.

Because of similar sets from Samsung, no one set in middle range is getting popular.
But there is chance if the the W prices are going down, then lot of people will but it resulting in a bigger community and more development.

Samsung need not be threatened by Nokia's Lumia since it is a Windows phone. Android is more friendly due to its ease of use and due to mods mainly developed by people in this community.
I have been in a mall last weekend and Samsung released a dual core phone much like the Wonder in size and appearance, also in the original price range of the Wonder. That may be the reason for the price drop.
Didnt get much info though since I am not interested in getting a new phone at the moment.

From his description, a recently released Samsung phone, pricing somewhat close to W's original release price, looks a bit much like W, and has a dual core processor, i'm pretty sure its galaxy S Advance.
Maybe the lesson here is, if your gonna choose a Samsung phone, don't settle for mid-range.

I was browsing the net today, when i stumbled across a new phone from HTC. The Desire C. Rubbish phone but...ICS! That's insulting! Check it out on gsm arena (it won't let me post external links yet xD)
yeah maybe its price dropped but if your only for a bit gaming and some browsing but more on texting, music and videos then definitely its the perfect phone, not the expensive, got a decent processor and more for only a cheap price. before buying a phone we must consider first on what we really want to do and if we can use its full potential, for me i wont buy S3 coz first its too much expensive now, there are many interface i find useless here in our country, and my lifestyle wont fit on that phone.

And as soon as we get them in out hands, we'll all laugh and forget about this.
that was a fantastic article Dustin put together
Simply brilliant. The article summed up what will undoubtedly become known as the Great GNex Clusterf--k. As pukemon suggested in another thread, the hype is losing steam and potential customers are beginning to look elsewhere. Way to go, Google/Samsung/Verizon!
seems everyone here is forgetting that google will never market the Nexus like the iphone. This phone is for "US". Its not the most anticipated device of the yr, come on. Nexus One, Nexus S, little promotion. They not even trying to compete with the iphone. Its a Tech geek phone. Nobody in the real world knows about it

Looking on the bright side, more devices announced with "better" specs mean the price for Nexus can't be too high, or people would turn away from it and buy phones with the same high price but "better" specs. Google/Samsung will reduce the price to make it competitive with recently announced phones.
I feel the same way. Google dropped the ball. I hope they go with HTC for the next Nexus

what the **** is the deal with the google/samsung/"verizon??"
its already been anounced that it wont be a verizon exclusive
The Nexus meant to be a guideline for where Google wants the direction of Android to go on phones and a baseline for developers to target. If Google tried to make it into the pinnacle of Android they would likely upset all their OEMs. Google doesn’t want to compete with the companies which are distributing their platform.
Neither Google nor Samsung really wants the Nexus to be a big seller, they just want it as a marketing tool. As for Verizon…who cares?
I agree. It's the details that are driving me nuts! I returned my GS2 before my 30 days were up, and I really liked the phone. I went back to using my Nexus One, and boy does it suck to go so far back. I've almost thrown it twice! I've always enjoyed the Nexus line due to pure android and quick updates.
I scour the internet multiple times every day for the past few weeks. I just want to know the bloody launch date for the US, where I can buy it, and whether or not the US will get the HSPA+ version right away? Is that so much to ask for?

Great article. Now people have no idea about when the phone will be released and how much it will be. We are even not sure about if we can get a unlocked version when the phone is launched. Google has the worst marketing team IMO, they failed chrome book now they are trying to fail nexus again.

The Nexus One did exactly that. It was for it's time the pinnacle and it did upset OEMs. Even so, the Android world is better for it.
I personally think that they should have released a spec monster and "encouraged" OEMs to try to exceed it.

yes, that is the point I am trying to make. A nexus is always unlocked, with the most updated Android system But a company like Google should not have such a poor marketing strategy: The HK event grabs everyone's eyeballs, but no body has any idea about the release date for the GSM version in US at all. Verizon may get it before or after TG; the launch of UK GN may be delayed; Verizon may have an exclusion period, etc. There are too many rumors because Google itself have no idea about its own product.
However, I will get a GN, I really want the ICS

I'm suffering because my wife's N1 died and she's eyeing mine. She doesn't want "huge" screen and was looking for a used N1 so I found one for her...mine as soon as I can get a new phone. So, I'm in a bind.

I think that most of the people interested in the Galaxy Nexus could care less about the pure android experience. Don't we all root/ROM our phones? I rooted my N1 less than 24hrs after buying it and haven't looked back.
Since the SGS2 is already rooted and ROM'd, I don't care at all about the actual OS. ICS will be coming to the SGS2, question is will it come via ROM kitchen or OTA update. Either way, I'd be happy. Of course I'd be happier with the GN, but at this point I'm so frustrated with the lack of information that I'm buying whatever is available with the best hardware on December 1st.
Fed up with all the negative posts. I saw the ASUS Transformer forums do the same in the early days of release.
1) I think my Nexus is great - I used to have a Desire. Now I have a phone that I think is MUCH better.
2) Im very happy for anyone who feels their phone is better but will have much more respect for those who compare based on hands on experience. However why KEEP posting on a Nexus forum why you think your phone is better ? Post how great your phone is on its own forum.
3) Im fully aware that there are some bugs. Most of these will be fixed by software updates. Its part of the 'fun' of being an early adopter.
4) Threads about hardware problems are fine and very useful. I havent experienced any myself (yet) and hopefully Samsung will fix/recall/exchange.
5) I know the camera is limited and 'only' 5mp. thats fine. i use my phone for point and shoot. Im old enough to remember the first digital cameras. This camera does me fine.
Regards,
Happy Nexus Owner
(are there any others out there ?)
p.s. I love my Transformer too.
I don't have one yet, but I'm planning on picking one up soon. New devices always bring out the loud-mouth whiners who apparently spend 8+ hours on the board complaining every day. I've got a job...
Anyway, the device looks great. I'm really excited. It will be my first Nexus device (although my wife did have the Nexus S, and I run CM7 on my EVO 4G). It will also be my first GSM device - I'm in the US and switching from Sprint to AT&T. I plan on picking up a European unlocked unit. Sprint's network has gotten really terrible lately. Can't wait for the new toy!

Where are you ordering yours from? I'm also on AT&T and looking to buy an unlocked gsm version from the UK. I've found: https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-i9250-google-galaxy-nexus-black-unlocked.html and http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.ph...xus-16gb--sim-free-unlocked--titanium-silver-
Handtec appears to be cheaper (after converting), but they aren't including the VAT charge in the price... so it may end up being more expensive.
other than the volume / 900MHz interference issue, I am really happy with this phone. It's just a shame that this issue is tainting the experience for me.
I love the screen, it's easily the best screen I've had on a mobile phone, Android 4.0 is great, along with all the updated Google Apps.
Google+ still cannot do notifications properly though...Google need to sort that one out!
But I am happy with the phone (albeit for the 900MHz problem)

You don't pay VAT when you import to the US. Negri is just seriously more expensive for some reason (most of their devices are more expensive).
Clove and Handtec both have phones (and all indications are they're reputable). I believe Handtec is holding shipments because they're aware of the volume bug. Check out the specific threads for the Clove and Handtec orders. Lots of info in there.
just posted a thread on the accessories about a great cheap case/cover ... order it in advance to keep your new purchase shiny

Good to know on the VAT charge... I guess I'll be ordering from Handtec, or possibly Clove.
One thing I am loving is in the developers section you can change the animation speeds. Gives a great different feel to the phone.

Believe it or not they're helpful. Yes, some lack detail and could be considered petty, repetitive or both, but I'm a big boy and can sift through banal chatter to glean some good comparitive information. And while everyone knows what the specs are in advance, actual comments on real-world performance are helpful. For example, I could give two craps about 5 vs. 8 megapixels in the camera but I do want to know how well it takes pictures and videos. And to say "you knew it was 5 megapixels before you bought it" every time someone posts their camera experience is a stupid and biased comment. If the forum were limited to nothing but happy posts it would simply be a club for fanboys.

erm.... i think you missed my point.....
I have no problem with negative posts. But .... if you were coming onto this forum to investigate a phone you would read:
1) Posts about hardware problems (useful)
2) Problems about software faults (useful - but ICS not Nexus)
3) People stating why they think their phone is better (inevitable)
You dont tend to find many posts praising the phone which i dont think provides a fair comparison. You dont get many people starting threads saying 'i have no issues'.
Im quite able to sift through what i do and dont want to read.
This thread was just to state that there are a lot of people (hopefully) who are pleased with their purchase and to state some of the good things about the phone.
Maybe some people investigating the Nexus will be able to see that its not all doom and gloom .... its a great phone
We are living in exciting times, the things these handsets can do we could only dream about just a few years ago. Bug or no bug I just love this device. Great performance, great display, just Android on another level. I trust Samsung will sort these issues out overtime, be it with new software or replacement hardware. In the meantime I'll enjoy my Galaxy Nexus.

Compared with the analogue Nokia i had 18 years ago things have moved on significantly
As the thread states my friend just got a Nexus on contract and is using it to pay off his O2 contract as he already has a sim free iPhone 4S.
I can sell my GS2 for around £200-230 so just need to pay the difference to get it up to £300
Played around with it a tiny bit and it looks ok but not really sold on it however I do love the pure google experience (previous nexus one owner)
Good deal or not?
Yeah! Honestly, I got this phone yesterday and you will NOT be disappointed. The screen, the smoothness of ICS, it's just a freaking monster man. And You're only going to be paying around £70-£100 for the phone so you can't go wrong!
Edit: Just read you already own a GS2. I would not be so sure then, it depends on how desperate you are to get ICS, because once that hits the GS2 the only thing that will be to the Nexus' advantage is the screen and dev support, which is more than enough for me to go for the Nexus lol.
Decisions decisions....
Get it! and sell it me small profit for yourself
It's really a beast! Some of my favorite things are the screen, led, and the software buttons they are geinus!
Honestly, if I were you, I would wait until next year Q2 2012 when it is rumoured that quad core phones that are coming out. I'm pretty sure there are already ICS roms for the Galaxy S2 and you're getting it next year anyway from Samsung. However, I haven't had any experience with the Nexus so I can only tell you from what I think, I haven't actually compared the fluidity and smoothness of both phones.

Gotta agree. There are a few users here that I see post the same useless drivel. Makes ya wonder.
Anyway, like I said before, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
Side note: The touch screen buttons have just made other Android devices look antiquated.
I am pretty sure I will if my friend doesn't decide to keep it.
£300 is not a great deal considering a brand new one sells for around £428.79. If you do not like it, you should be able to sell it for more than £300.

nice signature. lol.
It kind of depends. Since you already have a GS2 it's not really an upgrade but a lateral move from one phone to the next. The GN2 will definitely outlive the GS2 as far as official updates and dev support is concerned, but the GS2 already has plenty dev support right now and will likely have it for as long as you own/use the phone. The screen on the GN is way better, the processor is just as good, the GPU and camera on the GS2 are the only real advantages so it pretty much evens out in my book. It really is going to come down to personal preference. The reason I jumped to the nexus line was because I was a Vibrant owner and never saw a froyo update on my phone while Samsung promised and promised. The dev community and custom gone were the only things keeping me happy with my phone. About a week after the Nexus S was released I walked into a Best Buy and put my phone running a custom froyo rom with an overclocked processor up against a bone stock display model and the display model Nexus won every battle. I bought the phone a few days later and haven't looked back since. Now there are a few caveats to the story, one being that I had a variant of the GS and that Samsung had indeed finished the froyo update about two months before the release of the Nexus S (just not for the American variants) but at the end of the day, the Nexus S is going to receive an official update of ICS and the GS isn't despite them having nearly all the same hardware components. The devs are still there and they will give the phone a proper update but it would be easier with an official kernel to play with. Just my thoughts. Personally I'd go with the GN unless you plan on playing multiple high end games that require you to have a better GPU.

The stock google experience is swaying it for me right now and it looks like I will have to pay a minimum of £80 to £100 + selling my GS2.
Will see my mate on Thursday and take it from there and will let everyone know if I suddenly become a GN owner
My wife said no I cannot trade so I said it's an christmas present to myself so may have to sweeten her up a bit haha

Actually its a very very good deal. Its 429 + vat which is more like £520. Also considering its from his friend and not some random stranger he can be pretty sure there's not some weird fault with it or something dodgy. Its pretty close to having a brand new phone with £220 off
Personally for around £100 I would probably upgrade. I agree with other posts its more of a lateral move, but the SGS2 is soooo common now, especially in the UK, and its coming up to a year old soon. The Galaxy Nexus will stay 'new' for a while. Also remember the GN resolution is the native resolution for ICS and what it was designed for. Although other phones with lower resolutions will also get ICS i'm sure there'll be some compromises somewhere.
Anyway its all opinion, but for me i'm slightly for the GN. BTW I upgraded from a N1 to a Galaxy Nexus, and my only experience of a SGS2 is 5 minutes with my friends one at the pub.
Interesting as o2 would let me pay off my remaining 2 months of my contract so i could get the galaxy nexus earlier.
They told me they do not allow this anymore and for that they have lost a customer, they never even tried to do me a deal.
I pay £41 a month for unlimited everything on my new contract which would mean i will pay £984 over the 24 month contract.
Hes going to be well out of pocket once he pays off his contract is o2 let him.
Text my mate to say I am going for the GN so now it's just down to when I go and get some cash for my phone and when I get to see him next.
Good timing as well as he was considering selling it tomorrow!
I bought a galaxy nexus and returned to my s2...
Only the screen is better on this phone and the new os, everything else isnt worth spendig money on it...

It's costing my friend around £200 to pay off O2 and he managed to get the GN for FREE on 12 months at vodafone so he will actually make around £100 from this and will also be on a 12 month agreement not 18-24 months.
On o2 he pays £37-38 a month and Vodafone will be £41 a month so makes sense really for him to sell it and for me to buy it lol
I'm about to buy an LG G3 for 350 euros. (16 Gb, black)
I don't want to buy another mobile phone within at least 2-3 years as I'm starting high studies and I won't have much to spend then, but I really need a mobile that can handle everything and can last a lot.
Do you think it's worth it or is there another mobile coming soon that's better? Is it going to be supported by the community for a long time?

One can always wait for the next great product.
If you like the features then get the phone. It has gotten good reviews and has a good reputation here.
Go for it. This phone should last you the amount of time you want it to without it feeling outdated by the 1 year mark. Hard to say what will be our in 3 years but I plan to keep mine for to better part of 3 years.
I'd wait and see if there's gonna be a new nexus phone with L or go for the N5. This phone lags sometimes, has pretty low development activity (yeah, I know the reason, no complaint but a fact). After my nexus 4, I should've gone with the N5. The G3 is an okay phone in my opinion and looks sexy but the wow factor is missing for me...
The phone is great ..... but its really what you want your phone for and whether it fits those particular needs, I'm afraid there is no absolute answer, its about your needs and whether this phone fits them or another is more suitable.
I would advise research and checking it out and the competition, sorry no easy answers.

I'll try to tell you my history, from a person that doesn't change their phone every 3 months, or.. in a better way, a xda-user exception.
Got the Gnexus almost on the end of its lifespan (4 months before Nexus 4 release). It lasted 2 years when I gladly changed it to LG G3.
I saw a lot of reviews to after choose LG G3. What you will see outside is questions about the battery life due to the "unnecessary" QuadHD display.
Having a Gnex for 2 years is undoubtedly a nice school for battery life and screen on time use...
I really don't care about that after having that phone for 2 years.. and in every aspect besides battery life, LG G3 wins (for me).
So, tl:dr, buy it without doubt, grab a spare battery if you care so much. The design and the display of LG G3 destroy every other phone released till today.

Well, yeah, if you can't wait, go into a shop and try it, play around with it and decide how it feels for you. At end it's gonna be u using it I'm not happy with it but I'm okay with it personally. Only reason I got it is that I broke my nexus 4 and got a good deal on it from my SP. Otherwise I was thinking about ordering a nexus 5. Had it in my hand, used it before, I just simply love nexus phones for aosp android, quick updates knowing Google is behind it and if they screw something up in the software they will be quick to release a fix while manufacturers won't be, and to be honest they make shifty UI except Sony imo but I had 2 Xperia phones, both were flagship devices and both sucked.
But as said before, it's your own personal preference. Try it in a shop and you'll see it for yourself. It looks really sexy with the huge display with the tiny bezels and reminds me of the nexus 5 a bit as well. Though I miss my aosp android experience and the quick updates. I however appreciate for instance the IR control and the camera.

The Note 3 was announced early last September and released at the end. Samsung staff have been told there's going to be no annual leave around the middle of Septemeber, the correlates to what happens around their releases. There's no way they'd wait over a month from when they announce to being on sale.
The G3 struggles with the 801 powering it. Check out the videos of a comparison of the G3 805 Vs G3 801. Check out the articles on Samsung's new QHD screen technology also,it uses less power. There may be other better phones out later this year or next but it would be mad to buy an 801 QHD phone when the other major companies are about to release their 805 versions.

Just out of interest, would that be a grey import? The cheapest I can find in UK which is probably imported from EU is £390 which is about 480 Euros. Or is it second hand? Makes more sense if it is the latter.

God damn it people!
You lot all buying this gives them the ammunition they need to keep on selling at these crazy flipping prices!! And who are we kidding, of course it'll sell.
But Iive in hope, Samsung are losing more market share due to these budget phones becoming more popular. But Samsung have never been good at hearing their customers
It would indeed be folly to write this mobile is not expensive, it is but so are most quality things in life?
Spend a little get a little back, Aston Martin are expensive as are numerous other uber cars. Consider the specifications and materials used with the Edge+. Again I am not suggesting its a cheap mobile but has Apple ever been cheap? Apple are the richest company on earth and though they do indeed make a superb product they are generally not so well specified as other flag ship mobiles.
I own the latest Apple iPhone and though it is a thing of beauty the actual specs are years behind the normal S6 that I also happen to own.
The micro engineering and development costs that go into the new generation of flagship Samsung are what bought me back to them after a long break, When I think how Samsung sold us plastic metal, plastic leather and plastic stitching I have no problem paying a premium price for a premium device. I sincerely doubt one could refer to the new flagship range of Samsung's as anything other than premium devices.
I think the S6 is a superb mobile and for the lower price is leagues ahead of its Apple counterpart. I dread to think what the cost of the new iPhone will be? Still they are again a premium mobile, heck they may even place a HD screen in the 6S?
Personally I thought the device is expensive but after using it for a week I don't regret my purchase. In mobile world we can't really keep up with new technology in 6 months your device is outdated something new will and you if compare you'll always regret it. If the device and it's features makes you happy then that's all it matters. If you are worried about the price go for different one there a tons of devices that offers fairly good features with much less cost like One Plus etc.
Sent from my SM-G928G using XDA Free mobile app
The good thing is that mobile technology has pretty much peaked over the last few years or so, so if you buy an edge+, you're probably good to go for the next 3 years.
Gone are the days of ground breaking new features and big leaps - It's just same sh*t different year - There's only so much you can shove in a phone.
I upgraded from a Note 3 to this as my contract ran out and to be honest, the screen is a bit better, sure it's a bit faster, not hugely though - The biggest change is the camera which is a lot better. I did a side by side comparison last night, clearing the ram of both handsets and launching things and there wasn't a massive amount in it at all. I don't understand why people buy outright then sell a few months later when the next thing comes out, such a waste of money when you're getting pretty much no improvement over the last model.
Had I not come to the end of my contract I certainly wouldn't have bothered. It's a bit better, but not £750 of better.
