Good afternoon gents,
Quite frankly I'm a bit baffled. I haven't trouble flashing different kernels on different models but the HOX from Rogers takes the cake. I've tried to flash 2 kernel from the DEV section and EACH TIME I ended with a HTC Quite brilliant logo and it just loops after 10seconds or so. Can't seem to flash a kernel that will go beyond that stage.
Anyone care to share any lights? I mean I've read through the forum enough, I've just recovered from 3 soft bricks from flashing kernels... what am I missing?

The Rogers HOX has a different processor than the International model (by the way you're in the International HOX forum). The Rogers HOX has a dual core snapdragon S4, while the International model has a quad core Tegra 3. Kernels from this forum will only work with the Tegra 3 chipset. Check out the AT&T HOX forum, that's the one you want.

Did you boot into fast boot then use
fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
fastboot erase cache
Then boot into recovery and flash the zip?

It won't matter. He has the S4 processor. Our kernels won't work on his phone.

Hey Thx bud for pointing it out. I didn't even notice. Cheers mate.
It would certainly explain why it's not working

Hjau, and thanks for reading.
I've been using the HOS from day 1 and have now decided to jump into the HOX camp. I would like to know what's the biggest differences concerning ROM's, flashing, and so forth, if there is any, since I'm a noob with Android.
A couple of questions...
1. I've got the Finnish version of HOX - is it suitable for all ROMs or just some of them? Can I flash CM10 Alpha 7 by tbalden?
2. Is the whole flashing process same with the HOS after unlocking the bootloader; custom recovery (CWM), wipe, flash, fastboot boot.img and boot?
3. Is there anything else to know in terms of tricks and tips for the HOS; not seeking for battery savin' or the likes of that, just device-specific stuff that is important for custom ROMs and playing around with your device.
4. Before flashing any ROM, should I update the stock phone to the latest version of radio, Android and Sense? Meaning all the automatic HTC updater offers.
Like I said, I'm a noob. That's why I'm asking. Don't want to brick the phone with the first flash. There are so many threads and posts and ROMs compared to the HOS scene that I want to be sure.
Thank you very much!!!

1. if ur HOX is tegra 3 based then yes u can flash it
2. yes the process is same as we still don't have S-Off
3. u can flash some custom kernels for better performance and battery
4. no need of it, you can directly flash any custom ROM, just make sure to make a nandroid backup before flashing
Well HOX has very good developer community and we are so lucky to have such good developers who have been working hard to make our experience better with our HOX
Here u will get a great dev support and u will be happy that u made a switch to HOX
Thanks a lot.
But why shouldn't I install all the updates since afaik radio cannot be updated via custom ROM?

You can install updates if you want
Even after rooting you can upgrade radio in custom Rom you just can't update hboot after rooting though there is a process but its tricky

Yes, TB works flawlessly you can restore back but few apps might not work if you restore both app and data
Just keep that in mind
And also few games are not compatible on tegra which are compatible with one s

Hi my wife has a One V with stock everything. It keeps freezing up and takes up to 1 minute just to open a new text message.
The phone has never been rooted or modified in any way.
I tried rebooting it, doesn't change anything. She does not have many apps installed at all from the market, maybe 1 or 2.
The way I fixed it last time was back up all of her sms and call log and setting and I did a factory reset.
This solved the problem but the phone was slowing getting worse and worse and now it is almost impossible to use it.
Is this a know issue? Is there an easy fix for it? Or maybe the only option is to root and install a custom rom for her.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
I do indeed give you the advice to install a custom rom. This is a known issue with the stock rom.

Great I had a feeling it was ROM related. Since I have no experience with One V, can anyone suggest a good how to guide to unlocking boot loader, and rooting, and installing CWMR on this phone. Every device is different so it is like leaning all over again for each phone.
oh yeah any rom suggestions? Not sure if I should give her a stock based sense rom or AOSP / CM. Personally I love AOSP Jelly Bean 4.2 on my S2 because I hate Samsung bloat on my phone.
thanks alot.
Personally I would recommend 4.1 or 4.2 depends if she needs the functions that are still missing from 4.2 (biggest one being camera I think) if she wants sense I recommend suprimo. As for a guide, there are some as a sticky in one of the sub forums (I think their in general)

I suggest you look for provision or pacman 19.3 in cdma (from what I can assume your CDMA) they have 5mp camera which is what the stock camera has. Note: the difference for flashing between a Samsung s2 and our device is we have to take the boot.img from the ROM.zip we DL and flash it in fast boot (thing before you enter recovery) after we flash the .zip in recovery
I recommend twrp recovery also because i find it easier to navigate
ONE MORE THING:
Power + down vol to get to fast boot and tell us what radio you have.
IF it ends in .0928 your going to get boot loops if you flash a JB ROM simple fix I'll tell you if it does because it is a complex process.
However if our radio ends in anything else you should be fine (htc had an ota that upgraded radio and it fked things up).

I've never been very tech-y with this stuff, and now I'm having problems with mine. I don't understand the ROMs or anything. I don't want to void the warranty or anything.
Well assuming the rules here. You can't install a rom here. Because for that you have to unlock the bootloader and doing that voids the warranty.

Flashing custom ROM is the only solution...
Sent from my HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
I don't know exactly what ROM I flashed that made this start happening or maybe it was a kernal....idk. Anyways, I'm not able to get into fastboot mode anymore. I used to be able to get to it via TWRP or in my reboot options in the ROMs I use. Now it seems like for whatever reason I am not able to get into it.
Also around the same time, I lost my ability to overclock. If I ran flash ROMs just fine in TWRP and they work great until I try to flash an OC mod. The OC mods used to work great on my phone but not anymore. As soon as I flash the OC mod and reboot, it stalls to the point I have to reflash the ROM.
Anybody have this issue before?
I hate to state the obvious but are you flashing kernels for your device? Rom friendly kernels?

Well in that case, I can't for the life of me figure out why all this crap is happening to my phone.
Tried to flash CM10.1. last week. Been able to flash it dozens of times before and it was fine. Now if I try to flash it, it says failed.
Not able to overclock my phone anymore. Can install PACMAN, LiquidSmooth, PA, or international stock rom and it flashes fine. As soon as I try to flash the appropriate kernal to OC it, it won't boot up. I even installed the kernal that came with the current rom I'm using and flashed it in the installation menu when I first flashed the rom and it wouldn't boot up.
Are you sure you are flashing a CM kernel? it sounds like you might be flashing TW kernels
EDIT: Seens that my PC/connection configuration were causing corrupt downloads and I forgot to check hashes on some firmware so, my mistake...
I have rooted, installed custom recovery (tried TWRP and philz), and a Odin rooted, deodexed stock ROM. And that's all I can make to work.
I have tried to install many TW based ROMS, the install is normal, and after reboot, the device do one of this things:
Stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note II white Logo;
Bootloops ath the white logo;
Bootlooops at the Samsung colored logo;
As I did a CWM backup of the deodexed ROM, I usually restore it to get my phone back in use.
Any ideas?
Do a data /factory reset in recovery and reboot.

Been there, done that.
I did not mention, I have been a lurker here, but I'm fairly experienced with Samsung Android devices. I had a I-9000 and a I-9100 both International versions, and a Galaxy Tab 10 wifi so I'm not exactly a noob
I think I covered all the bases... But the Note II seens to have some more involved workings than my previous Sammy devices...

The usual way: download the CWM package, put it on the internal SD, boot to the recover, wipe(s), install zip, reboot and...
Actually, I did manage to boot and use this custom rom, a port from Note 10. But I didn't like it. All the others I tried, all TW JB 4.1.2 based didn't worked...
EDIT:
Alas, when I got home, I'll try the ROM on your sig, maybe it works. ^_^

As a matter of fact, I am having some issues with corrupt downloads (not specifically of ROMs). Maybe it's part, if not all, of the problem...
I'll check, thanks! :good:
Well guys, after some tweaking on my PC configuration, the corrupt download issues decreased. Still checking, but I managed to flash and use normally the phone.
Thank you all!
I guess it's self explanatory... I'm rather new to HTC devices, and coming from the Sprint S2, I'm not used to having a recovery that's separate from the kernel. So where could I get an image of the stock recovery for the ONE in case I ever do have to "warranty" the device?
I used to keep a nandroid of the base gingerbread ROM and the kernel for my S2 in the case that happened and I had to use them twice. So it'd be nice to have a folder stored deep in my storage drive with the right files for my ONE.
I have seen a couple of the stock ROM images, but I'm not sure that they are the 4.2.2 it came with. Anyone help me out with these? I'd be grateful!

There is a guide somewhere in the development section that can get you back to stock with a S-on and the security flag reset. Its a lengthy process not like flashing a tar file in Odin thats for sure.

I've looked through that thread a hundred times. Is the ruu the recovery image? Also need a stock rom image? And if I ever switch out the kernel, well I'd need that too.
But the process doesn't scare me at all, coming from a Linux user of quite a few years. I just have to have the files to do it and to make my personal guide to work it for later.

Absolutely. Had to have my phone at least de-bloated. lmao Just learning all I can about the device though. Like I said, I came from a phone who's kernel and recovery were packed together and you could pretty much do anything you wanted from recovery without adb/fastboot at all. TWRP for me it is though, pretty nice and I like it a bit more than CWM.
