I don't know exactly what ROM I flashed that made this start happening or maybe it was a kernal....idk. Anyways, I'm not able to get into fastboot mode anymore. I used to be able to get to it via TWRP or in my reboot options in the ROMs I use. Now it seems like for whatever reason I am not able to get into it.
Also around the same time, I lost my ability to overclock. If I ran flash ROMs just fine in TWRP and they work great until I try to flash an OC mod. The OC mods used to work great on my phone but not anymore. As soon as I flash the OC mod and reboot, it stalls to the point I have to reflash the ROM.
Anybody have this issue before?
I hate to state the obvious but are you flashing kernels for your device? Rom friendly kernels?

Well in that case, I can't for the life of me figure out why all this crap is happening to my phone.
Tried to flash CM10.1. last week. Been able to flash it dozens of times before and it was fine. Now if I try to flash it, it says failed.
Not able to overclock my phone anymore. Can install PACMAN, LiquidSmooth, PA, or international stock rom and it flashes fine. As soon as I try to flash the appropriate kernal to OC it, it won't boot up. I even installed the kernal that came with the current rom I'm using and flashed it in the installation menu when I first flashed the rom and it wouldn't boot up.
Are you sure you are flashing a CM kernel? it sounds like you might be flashing TW kernels

Probably a pretty stupid question but I'm doing some flashing today and I'm curious. Does it matter which order I flash the Rom and Kernel in? Or should the Kernel come first?
ROMs usually have a kernel with them, so install the rom, then the custom kernel you want.

Rom first, Kernel second! I don't know if it matters but I have never done it the other way. I always allow a boot up first when the rom installs and then reboot into recovery again and install the kernel Good luck.

Will do.
when you install a new kernal, is there anything you need to do or does it replace the old one and most things should just work?

Provided you installed the correct one fo your phone it should work fine. You may notice things like longer battery life, enhanced speed on mobile networks and also the ability to change the frequency of the phones processor. I use an apex kernel on my GNex and it is really good.
If you install a kernel and then a rom, your kernel will be overwritten considering roms come with kernels

Ok, So i've successfully rooted my epic 4g touch and I successfully installed the rogue CWM found on this forum. Now whenever I try to flash the CM7 zip (trying to get AOKP), it will only boot into CWM and the phone won't boot. I've tried re-rooting, wiping dalvik (gives me volume patch error), and wiping cache, etc.
Any help?

You don't need to install CM7 to install AOKP.
Try this: ODIN to stock EL29, use one click root (choose option C, then I (this'll root your device and give stock CWM recovery)).
Then boot into recovery, flash AOKP, gapps and FD02 modem if you'd like.

Really? Interesting. Ok well most people are actually flashing AOKP and Codename from the EL26 CWM that is linked in the OP of those threads. That is actually how I have flashed over 15 times with different builds. So if you can Odin EL26 with clockwork mod you should be able to flash AOKP after you flash a calkulin format all to wipe all relevant partitions and don't forget to install Google apps.

Yes, root works a bit different on this phone. Pretty much every single rom available will provide with root and superuser when it is installed via some sort of custom recovery or Odin. Odin is actually a very safe and convenient method of flashing.

Hmm that's strange. A lot of people definitely have the fast zip installing issue but when they flash it for the second time without ever rebooting recovery or the phone it takes a good 15+ seconds to flash and it successfully writes to your phone and boots up. Going back to stock certainly can't hurt. Perhaps start from there.

Have you tried redownloading the ROM? If you downloaded via your device you could have had some dropped packets.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Not sure what's up, but all of a sudden I can't flash custom ROMs anymore. None of them boot. All I can do is odin OC stock Touchwiz roms, but any CWM flash of a ROM I do doesn't boot.
They worked until yesterday when I tried flashing the Rubix xcel rom v1.0.1. Every ROM before that flashed until I tried to flash that one and it just bootlooped. Never every flash does it.
And yes, download mode works and all touchwiz builds work when flashed through odin. Now i'm worried I won't be able to flash any custom ROM like the Sense 4 ROM if it comes out or any ROM built from source and only stock TW ROMs.

I was using the el26 CWM kernel. What should I try?
Btw, I've been flashing the el26 cwm kernel while on FD26 stock ROM. I've been able to flash without issues previously as I said so it shouldn't be the issue.
Have you tried other roms then that one?? There is a chance that ROM version doesn't boot.
Different recoveries shouldn't really make a difference in this case. You could try wiping data after a flash and see if it boots. Really shouldn't make a difference but I'm not sure why otherwise wiping and flashing a rom that should boot isn't.

I've tried rubix and EpicTouchAOSPmod (the latter I've used before) and AOKP today (used it before too). Neither booth and I even tried installing rubix 3 times.
I would suspect your rom downloads as a likely culprit.
Are you downloading them directly to your phone, external or internal sd, copying them from pc (usb problem causing glitches during copy)? Check md5 of roms if they are available also. Just a few ideas.
Edit: I could go so far as to format both your internal and external SD's from the storage menu of the phone (after you backup your stuff of course). Or pop out external SD and run it without as a test too.

I edited above but if you don't catch it try to wipe out data again after a flash. Not convinced this could make a difference but otherwise I can't imagine why a rom that should boot isn't.
Be sure your downloads are fully there too.. check md5s to be sure they are not corrupt.

Its possible, I would go back to totally stock EL29 GB.. Here is my canned Sfhub howto easy instructions, not that you need them :
1. Download to your pc SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-oc-sfx.exe from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Boot the phone up into download mode, connect the phone to your pc and run that file. Wait for the phone to reboot.
Download to your pc the e4gtauto-sfx.exe from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Run this file so it can self-extract.
USB Debugging must be ENABLED - [Menu->Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging]
Click on "runfirst" from within the folder that gets created (the e4gtauto self extracts to a folder, can't remember what its called)
Your phone will already be rooted from the first file so click on "option C", then on the next page, click on "option J" for the rogue cwm and let it finish!
2. Save these instructions, you may need them again someday!
This will give you a totally FRESH copy with a stock rom.
This stock rom will already be rooted and have CWM recovery installed.

What do you mean you can't flash anything else? When you flash, are you wiping everything clean each time before flashing ROMs or are you dirty flashing?

Do you have the md4 boot loader?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
The new S3 have been modded by Sprint /Samsung and require a modded recovery in order to mount storage. The other issue is that you can not flash an aosp style rom. You should be able to flash any TW rom but it won't allow aosp roms to flash. None of the developers have a new S3 so until someone gets one ir someone volunteers one this won't be solved.

If your getting a status 7 error that is the bootloader error flash this in recovery it will update all your firmware and bootloader. http://db.tt/Qt6NcH0a
After flashing this make sure you reboot the phone then try going back into recovery and flashing the rom you want.

Is this still a legit fix even after the 4.3 upgrade?
I just tried this and now my phone wont even power on.
I recently flashed the 1.6.1 furnace kernel and my phone began to act strange. I did not deviate from the instructions and took precautions. The phone would turn on and seem functional for 20 seconds. After that, it would turn off and restart. I flashed the stock rom and unrooted the phone, however, it continues to behave this way, only now it isn't rooted and I cannot access the recovery menu.

Will this change the current kernel back to stock because I think that is the problem. I kdz using flashtool and it works for about 5 minutes before doing the same thing... : (
Should I just keep trying or is there something I should change.
(I have reflashed the stock .tot before and it worked. Using the same method now doesn't seem to work)
Take it back to stock with download mode. If this does not fix the issue then the phone needs to be replaced. If going back to stock doesn't fix the issue you might want to work with the developer as I have heard of this before. Might just be faulty hardware as it doesn't seem common, but there may be something the custom rom is doing that is the cause. Hoping a factory restore fixes things for you.
