[VOTE] Do you want Official Sense Launcher locked @ 60FPS? | UPDATE - HTC One X

Major update! Seems that your votes did count! Sense launcher 60fps is a reality in the latest 2.17.401.2 update!
For the new comers i will make it quick, the reason why Sense 4 launcher drop frame rates (lag) is simply because of Sense widgets, those widgets have a fake depth effect added to it, for example the weather full screen widget you can see how the font is floating above the graphics and if you tilt the widget you notice the floating layers, this effect is the main reasons why Sense 3D launcher lags, its a needless and inconsistent effect since now they removed it in some of the widgets
In Sense 3.x I managed to fix it by making a modification that flattens/freeze widgets during page scroll using a method actually written by HTC called QuickScroll (invoked when you press home and the launcher spin back to the default homescreen), this mod was very successful and managed to run every Sense 3.x launcher at locked smooth 60fps!
Sense 4 code changed, so I've re-written and released it for the One X
Ultra & Super Smooth Sense 4 Launcher (Rosie) v1.0 - One X
Ultra Smooth Mode for Sense 3.x - 3D Sense launcher @ 60fps (single core 1ghz)
Screenshots
So please hit thanks and vote if you want Ultra Smooth 60fps Sense launcher (Rosie) on your One X out of stock from HTC
We will send this post to HTC dev in order for them to understand once and for all, OS Launchers should never drop frame rates or lag, it ruins your whole perception of the device speed, Examples for how it should be: Apex launcher and Ultra Smooth Rosie!
Those who are rooted can try it by downloading it from here, the pages flip smoothly, you can see how locked smooth it is during page scroll even if you have the heavy weather widget, however i also believe the launcher is capped below 60fps, something in between which also needs to be fixed by HTC, in contrast Sense 3.5/3.6 launcher was capped @ 60fps
Another way to test this is to remove all Sense widgets and replace them with market's widgets like APW, HD widgets etc, you will notice the stutter is gone!
It's silly that the Desire HD with Sense 3.0 launcher and this mod runs smoother than the One X

Thanks for the quick mod. Proof of concept is smooth! An option from HTC to disable this would be cool!
Slightly OT, how difficult would it be to disable wallpaper scrolling in Rosie? I do believe disabling it will make the launcher appear smoother.

no the weather in the clock widget is still not flat lots of elements are not flattened, they have a marginal depth which means layer, which means lag

thats the idea behind this vote, the stutter is related to this issue and my ultra smooth patch is the proof
the idea is to collected this vote and contacting HTC dev, maybe once and for all we manage to kill this silly stuttery effect...that's been ruining all their Sense 3 devices

My Sense launcher isn't laggy with the depth effect on (in ARHD 5.2 w/Franco kernel). Are you all using a different device to me?!
I didn't even notice it was 3D until I peered very closely at the edges of the CD case on the music widget and the 'floating' weather on the clock - nothing like Sense 3 which was a bit overboard (and too much for my old Desire for sure!)
The only thing that's laggy on mine is sometimes bringing up the app drawer takes long enough that it doesn't bother playing the animation, but I don't think that's anything to do with 3D objects on the home screen anyway...

But it's iOS-smooth already! The stock ROM/kernel was a bit choppy - that's why I asked - I thought perhaps a bug was causing some 'real' lag somewhere like Sense 3 running on a Desire
But perhaps it would be worth doing from the point of view that reducing the load on the GPU ought to improve screen-on battery life to some extent. Especially given that most people are utterly oblivious to the fact that Sense 3/4 home screens are 3D anyway.

Disable HTC Sense on the Desire

For the people that wanted to know if you can disable HTC Sense on the Desire, or just wanted to know how to do it:
Here is a short demonstration of how to disable HTC Sense on a Desire.
It's nice to know this is possible. IMO the stock version (Nexus One look) also has some nice benefits.
Sorry if this was already posted
thanks....
this what i needed to make my decision....
defintally a desire
thanks that what i was looking for..

But, I dont think that will completely stop all Sense processes.

All Sense on Android is, is a few apps.
The main one being the Launcher which you can disable as seen in that video.
There's then the Messaging and Dialler apps which you can replace with stock apps (without being rooted).
That's about it apart from the fact you'd be left with a Black notification tray instead of a White one and a far superior lock screen.

IMO, i dont think someone would disable the Sense (maybe just to see how the plain Nexus One looks like ).
and we have 576 MB RAM; I dont think we should worry about "apps that run in the background"

Jup I found out that even if you disable Sense, tbere will still be some 'behind the scenes' Sense stuff going on. Like for example, Stock 2.1 only supports 5 homescreens instead of 7.
So if you REALLY want the fast Stock 2.1 experience, disable Sense is not enough. You will have to put a real stock 2.1 ROM on it, or how it is called.
Anyway, most people probably wont have any problems with this.
Speaking of stock 2.1 rom being faster than the one with Sense UI.
How much faster is it? Is it very noticeable?

Keeping the HTC framework will be to the owner's advantage, some of the HTC apps that don't run on a stock Android rom will then work properly.

The contents of each tab in Manila are available as widgets in Android and they're far more customizable. There's really no reason to have Manila on Android.

From what I have seen, the difference is almost not even noticeable. But then again all the Desire video's I have seen are after it has just been turned on. Maybe the Sense UI will cause some lag after a while of using.
Anyway, Stock 2.1 HAS to be faster, that is a fact. 2 homescreens less, no Sense stuff running in the background, etc.
If I would turn off Sense UI, I would not do it for the speed improvement btw. I like the look of 2.1, with that 5 homescreens and the way to switch between them.

Well, when I finally got my long awaited HTC TyTn, I asked on a forum if anyone knew if there were any possibility to overclock the CPU....
The only answer I got back then was : "..There's no need to overclock the TyTn, the CPU is a 400 mhz!!"
But now, I'm sitting here, stuck with my sloooow TyTn (after selling my Hero to earn money for a new Desire)
So...I guess we can always need some more power, just wait some months and the apps and games are demanding more than enough for the Snapdragon CPU....and you need to swallow a camel or two

Yeah, sure it's a 1Ghz processor. But my HD2 has it and it still lags.
So I will take all the extra speed I can get for perfect performance

You can argue that on the HD2 it's down to the OS/custom ROMs that it still 'lags'. My brother has the a stock T-mobile ROM on his device and I fail to see any lag.

The better lock screen you're talking about, is that after disabling Sense? Which lock screen would that be, and what lock screen does the alternative have? And I always thought there were several lock screens to choose from - I've seen one where you make a pattern, one where you just flick the lock screen down, one where you "turn a wheel", and possibly some others, can't remember.
That's a lot of "lock screen" for one post

[ROM]VillainROMZ & SuperVillainZ for the G2/DZ - Sense UI & Vanilla Style!

WELCOME TO VILLAINROM
This bit’s the introduction. If you’re not interested in who we are, or how we got here, or are of the TL;DR mentality, then skip this entire section.
I HAVE INTERNET AT LAST! 5 weeks without it, and I'm officially back online, today! woop! Thank you for your patience. We wanted to make sure this ROM was right for you all prior to release! As many of you have noticed, I’m well and truly back in to the world of custom roms, after a few months break over the summer. Believe me, it was well and truly needed. It’s great to be back though.
If you’ve come from a HTC Hero/Desire or Magic, the chances are, you’ve heard of VillainROM. For that reason, I won’t go into who we are in too much detail. Sufficed to say, we’re a hardworking team of collaborative developers, working towards a common goal; to improve on manufacturer’s versions of the Android OS’ and to provide alternative, AOSP versions. We will no longer be providing 'experimental beta' releases, but instead, only releasing ROMs we deem to be 'final'.
So... to the ROM!
Before I do, though, I’d just like to take this opportunity to offer a huge message of gratitude to the team at #g2root. Scotty2 and the team worked their arses off for weeks on this, and together they achieved what HTC attempted to make impossible. We all owe them a huge debt of thanks.
This thread will house two ROMs; each of which will have its own thread on VillainROM.co.uk, but it's more manageable in the one here. Because of this, I'd appreciate it if you could post the name of the ROM you're using prior to reporting a problem/giving praise. These ROMs follow the successful release of Villision last week, which was a combined effort between HomerSP and myself. Homer is a legend, and he's worked with me again on this one. Once labelled 'The Hotfix King', he has been known to de-odex sleeping frogs and some pretty large haddock. I thank him, once again for his help and support.
VillainROMZ for the G2/Z is a stock Sense UI build, with a few VillainROM tweaks. The more obvious tweak is that the reboot and reboot to recovery options have been added, but I assure you, more changes have been made to the 'back end', so you should see an improvement on performance.
SuperVillainZ on the other hand, is one of VillainROM's specialities. It was, some time ago, one of the most popular ROMs on the Hero, and offers a combination of SenseUI and vanilla. It's entirely based on VillainROMZ, with HomerSP's power menu tweak and the tweaks of VillainROM, however, Rosie, and Sense UI widgets have been removed from the build. In addition, the age old problem of the ALARM CLOCK + LOCKSCREEN has been FIXED, by the very same, fish de-odexing legend, HomerSP. That means, you can use your HTC alarm, with your vanilla lockscreen... at last.
SuperVillainZ offers users what are, in our opinion the best bits of Sense UI (apps), with a Vanilla-like feel. The huge reduction in /system size and applications obviously makes it run that little bit better, too. This is the perfect ROM for those that can't decide... to sense, or not to sense.
The ever growing list of credits - Thanks to: HomerSP, Pulser, Cyanogen, Scotty, #g2root, Ninpo, Kendon, Mike Coffee, Lenny, Shen, Jeremy, Paul (Modaco), Richard Trip, MikeBeecham, RaiderX, lox, benhaam, strange Chinese guy whose name I don’t know but regularly places leaks in my dropbox, ALL VILLAINROM users, and in advance to anyone who downloads any of these ROMs, supports us, or leaves feedback.
/End introduction.

One question : Is there such function that I can enlarge the system font size by this ROM? If yes, how to do it?

I've been looking forward to this. Villivision ran beautifully but I just can't deal with the inferior dialler, clock and camera apps. Or the general ugliness of the statusbar and its icons. I hope those bits have been carried over.

SuperVillainZ is best for people (like me) who love HTC's apps (that can't be directly replaced like wifi hotspot, flashlight, dialer etc) but are not a massive fan of rosie as a launcher.
I am sticking with sense for now, until I get bored of "new sense" but SuperVillain is usually my rom of choice.

Flashed successfully. Everything seems to run in order and nothing out of the ordinary noticed. However, its quite late and I need some sleep, but I will report back if anything comes up. Thanks for the ROM. It's a great escape from the Rosie launcher while having the apps and features that came with Sense.
Not wishing to sound rude (though it probably will do), why do people have to specifically go to another website to log a bug for this ROM ? That's not how support for ROMs normally works on XDA, is it ? e.g. cyanogen doesn't tell you to go and log a formal bug report whenever you find an issue.

[Q] Need advice in switching from CM7 to MIUI

I'm mostly a lurker and try not to post much since most any question I have has already been answered (I've spent hundreds of hours on here but only posted a couple of screenshots), but I am looking for a little advice. I have been running CM7 with Tiomat kernel on my Evo for about 2-3 weeks and am pretty happy for the most part, but now I'm getting itchy to try out MIUI for the first time.
1. How does this forum infect people with the insatiable urge to constantly mod? ;-)
2. Any tips on a smooth(ish) transition? This is a pretty subjective question but I figure I will learn more from your answers than in dozens more hours poking around.
You'll be hard pressed to go back to CM.
Get the newest MIUI from MIUI.US
Use Aman Ra, Wipe Everything except SD Card and Battery Stats, if you're not fully charged. Flash MIUI then DT A2SD, if you're partitioned, boot up.
Let it settle, Reboot to Recovery, Flash Kernel (Tiamat 4.1.0 and 3.3.7 Are recommended)
Boot up And have at it.
Hey bonillamktg,
Ive used Miui for a few months as a daily driver and to be honest i loved it, its a simple interface that is easy to use but filled with features. You can overclock it stock with set cpu , out of all the roms i have tried so far i would say it was the smoothest, that flowed the best, the only issue i had was some problems with video recording. but besides that it gave me the best battery life i have ever had over 24 hours on a single charge with the stock evo battery. personally i would recommend it, and I liked it better then CM7 "only my option of course". But I say give it a shot, just nandroid up before hand so you can flash back if you dont like it!
Enjoy, hope I somewhat helped lol
Thanks, HipKat! I just read through your entire Ultimate Guide to Everything Evo 4G and learned a ton. That is probably the single most valuable post I've seen on any forum.
I've already been using Tiamat 4.1.0 and it has been good to me, so I'm glad to hear that it works well with MIUI. I fell asleep soon after posting this but I'm up now so I'll let y'all know the results.
Stevo, your description is exactly what I keep seeing over and over that makes me want to give it a shot. I feel like my setup now is a bit clumsy, it gets the job done but I have to go to 20 different places to tweak everything. Thanks! I'll let you know what the end result looks like!

Yeah and thats what I was reading all about before I gave it a shot to. I say go for it and give it a flash, it really is a nice smooth rom. One thing I forgot to add before when ever I use a sense rom I am normally getting around 150mb free ram, but on MIUI I was getting easily 250mb! & yeah I feel ya, its always a pain to tweak everything to perfection. Well hopefully Miui works out for ya! Your welcome, an thanks for keeping me updated on your journey haha. Good luck
HipKat, wondering if you would know why I'm having an issue. I was actually hoping that this type of feature might be built into MIUI, but I've been using Wallpaper Wizardrii for a little while now because it crops properly for non-scrolling wallpaper and doesn't pixelate...at least not until now. With CM7 & ADW.EX, it worked perfectly, but now, it is pixelating horribly. It's not the images, they are the same ones I used before that worked well.

In ADW ex, do you have the wallpaper hack option turned off? I think that option has something to do with wallpaper quality or color depth or something. You can also try Superwall lite or MultiPicture LWP. They're both live wallpapers, but I've seen no battery drain with either and I've used both. Superwall might be better since you're just using one image.
I get amazing wallpaper quality with MIUI, especially on the default launcher. Clear defaults for ADW or use a home switcher app to see what the wallpaper looks like on the default launcher with the same app. If it looks fine on the stock launcher, it could have something to do with your install of or settings in ADW.
Supersonic Evo 4G | MIUI | Tapatalk
I tried turning off the wallpaper hack and then went back to an image I used to get clearly and it was split in two, basically the left half of the image was moved over to the right.
You are right in how impressive the image quality is on MIUI's stock programming, even using ADW. If I really wanted to, I'd take an image editor, even something basic like MS Paint, and edit an image so it'd be centered where I want it. I change my wallpaper too often for that, though.
I found the Flikie Wallpapers app which has some great wallpapers, but I'll remember Superwall Lite for the future.
Thanks so much for the advice!
Here is where I am at now. I like the combination of Minimalistic Text, Missed It! and Quick Agenda that I put together at the top. I wish I could've integrated the SwitchPro widget into it, but it isn't scaling right for me (It leaves a big gap that I don't like). It's also not letting me edit the images for the switches, which I want to do before integrating it up there.

well i for one have tried the tiomat kernel on the MIUI rom and so far I noticed that my battery drained a little faster than usual. The one thing i did like about it was that i was able to use the hdmi mirroring. But I went back to cyn kernel with miui in the end (^_^)
miui is awesome. i love how many pink themesbthere are...yes im a girl...and how i can customize the theme the way i want it. i promise that you will be addicted. its a lot better than any other rom, and im a flash maniac. i do have a question maybe someone can help me, I'm on the latest miui 1.12.9 when I do group text messaging it force closes? What gives? Any ideas?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well, unless you use the extended settings, wall paper on MIUI does scroll, so maybe the images you're using are being resized improperly. FYI, and you probably know this, but the wall paper size on scrolling desktops for the EVO are 960px x 800px @72 dpi. 480 x 800 for lock screens.
BTW, you should lose the background on your Minimalistic text. or at least turn the opacity way down.
Just saw your post now, and hopefully hipkat can help you more with this, but i think your issue is to do with the rom itself. That is one downside of Miui there is no 720 picture taking and I really want to say the rom it's self has less resolution to it, when using it i did have a lot of low quality things images, and after flashing back to a sense rom I noticed much better quality images within pictures my backrounds and even just certain apps.
Hope that helps a little, is it just wallpaper your having issues with or is it other images?
MIUI is a 180 degree spin from CM completely different but its real nice you will enjoy it very stable and complete. The 1.11.18 version worked great for me then i tried 1.11.25 and had too many issues. By the way can some1 hlp me get a copy of .18 or .12 just to have? I cant seem to find it anywere and i didit save a copy. Thanks.

One reason why I don't use MIUI is because it doesn't have 4G support. So if you use 4G routinely, you may miss it.
True that. No 4G. For me, I don't have it here, anyhow, and have access to WiFi all the time, home and work

Once you launch the app, social apps will be shown along side with My phone icon, so you can see you media files, or for example, once you choose facebook, you would see all of your friends, then you can view their albums in facebook as if they were in your phone's memory (The same way of viewing).
There is two ways to view, either you view as events:

Or, as regular, viewing as albums:

It has been changed, and as you can see, status bar will disappear once you pull notification bar.

You can connect any usb device even without powered usb hub. You just need USB OTG cable. You can also connect your HDD drive with NTFS file format (But you need mout tool to mount NTFS file format).

It was smooth on 2.17, and I just feel it is smoother now. Maybe because of the animation, when you loop infinitely you would know what I mean. But for sure, app drawer is now much smoother.
And thanks for the notice, corrected.

haha they dont want us to know anymore
but this is not in their favor
because of these statistics we were able to conclude excellent stand by time vs screen on time
besides these statistics are an android feature, not wise to remove them

confession: i am not using this ROM, i'm developing something epic for BlackICE now, if it works, i'll leave BlackICE as it is, with its awesomeness and come here...
i can't test that, but it seems that lots of users are interested in this ROM, so you'll have to wait for the others.
