Two of cores are disabled ? - HTC One X

Hello!
The device is HTC One X updated to version 1.29.401.7
I installed a program that gives me information about hardware - Anfish. The information for the CPU gives the maximum and minimum frequency on last two of cores at 0 Mhz (see attached screenshot). Why? Does this mean that they are disabled and the device work only on two cores?

Probably means the app can't read all 4 cores

Give this app a try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615666&highlight=cpu
If do something CPU intensive, you should see all four cores in action (assuming everything is OK)

With regards to your enquiry, kindly we ask you to contact your retailer and try to swap your device because you bought it less than 30 day but we can't confirm for you that it is a must for the retailer to swap it because it differ from retailer to another . So if the retailer refused to swap it, kindly we ask you to contact our repair center on the following data...
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced.

HTC don't have a clue what they're on about - I'd ignore it as it's not faulty IMO but perhaps wait and see what others put

Tried the app you mentioned in first post. It shows all my cores
Edit: My ROM is leedroid with stock kernel

I also checked using advance task manager app and found that only two cores work for most of the time and other remains zero all time. And then played some hd games and found that other started to work.
So don't worry. No fault on your device.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5hMHNvZnQuZ3Bob25lLmFUcnVmZmxlSG9nIl0.

my HOX is on 1.28 and it only shows 2 but its benchmark is 11744 so i think all cores are working.

It's not gonna be running 4 cores all the time. Battery would drain even faster than it already is. It's hotplugging so for most general tasks it will run 2 cores.
Heavy tasks like games and benchmarks should use all 4 cores. Just make sure everything is updated and your on latest ota.

Wow HTC thinks it faulty even though it's meant to power down the cores when they are not needed.
if you guys want to see your cores doing their thing get tegra stats
http://goo.gl/EqjhS
and as for two cores disabled you can do this if you are rooted, mount as R/W go to /sys/kernel/debug/tegra_hotplug
open max_cpus and change it from 4 (default) to 2, will limit force the phone to only use 2 cores till you restart.
if you set to 1 it will still use two cores.

I underclock it to 672 mhz:-D
no lag
My gio works with 960mhz, buut it's unstable in 3D apps and games, same on 940mhz. I managed to overclock it to 987mhz. This is a short preview, how does my phone work on a frequency like that:

first you need root acces
then a custom kernel
then a app that can change cpu frequencies
tutorials for root are all over XDA, evencas the kernel installation, but that has to be specific for our gio.
if done that, you can overclock
I have giopro v1.5, px kernel for gio and I use no-frills cpu for overclocking.
Mine reboots in 5 minutes on 942 just like your, I use 864.
And what are those things?(noop, smartass, ondemand, deadline, cfq, etc)

Overclocking makes your phone faster. You overclock processor, so it jumps from 800MHz to - for example - 920MHz. You just feel defference in speed

Thanks Dave,
System Tuner does indeed show 4 cores with varying levels of activity... This is quite reassuring but I still have the nagging concern why the other apps only show 3!?
I'll look into this a bit more and see if I get any further info / responses... it would still be interesting to see what other people get with the Android System info App!

Do you have any data to support the claim that it improves battery life?
I've always thought that spreading the workload over more cores is more efficient eg. 4 cores working at say 700 is better then 2 cores running at 1400.

Not sure why someone buys a powerful quad core phone and then disabled cores and also under clocks it. I mean if battery life is your main concern than why not get a slower phone that has longer battery life?

We want the power there when we need it, but want to be able to save battery when we need that. That's what Android is all about, freedom and control over your phone! =)
I don't believe this will really save battery. One core running higher loads should take longer and increase the screen on time, CPU temp due to higher core usage etc.
I think you will end up with a slower phone with similar or worse battery life.
Do some tests

This app has the potential to be interesting but the S4 Pro is already effiecient enough, in fact it turns off cores itself when it needs to.
The Optimus G has the ability to manually turn off cores but that feature is unavailable in the Nexus 4, stock Android

The thing is that, although this phone is underclocked and has its cores disabled, it still works great
There's an App called Trickster Mod which shows you, that Kernels are disabled by default when not needed. In Standby it shows that on my Nexus 4 only one Kernel is working with 384 MHz. I think the Core Disabler App is useless....
What a useless app. Kernels such as Franco has hotplugging in the kernel already which disables and enables your core based on the amount of cpu usage.
If you're looking to maximize battery life, this app isn't the solution. And definitely not worth the 1 euro. Advertising a app on xda is illegal too

It is 2100 mAh which should be good enough. It is the software and the wake locks, and project butters unneeded speed when touching the screen that causes the battery to be lower.

Probably because you don't always need every core. 2 cores will provide the same experience even if you underclock. Having two active cores should give similar or better performance than the S4(dual), so it makes sense to disable the others. I will trust android with quads when core management improves, which should arrive with Key lime pie hopefully.

It would be cool if we could program the other cores for specific tasks. So the main two will handle the main task, the third can handle background task, and the fourth can do media things. Though I doubt we'll ever see the cores implemented like that.

[APP]{Small App} GPU Info v1.2 [20140114]

[ info ]
I have created a Small App (Sony Small App Framework) for checking out live GPU frequencies... it is a Free app!
this app will come in handy to understand how the GPU speeds are changing when you use the device for some app/games...
It will be like an overlay, floating application over the existing application/game.
Don't forget to close the small app after you finish, to save on battery!
also this will be very useful once we start testing GPU overclocking (only for selected devices on my DooMKernel)...
ROOT IS NOT REQUIRED

The total score is higher then the original HOX, but my CPU!! Its lower then the HDH!!!!! How can i fix this. I'm not going to OC it. But i might install some mods that give better CPU performance without OC.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Tim

Thats true, but its lower then the default device. I have the option wake cpu enabled in avast. Will that do the trick?

Yeah but thats because these benchmarks whitch are there for comparison were performed on phones with boosted software so dat the scores are higher

OK, so synthetic score is lower...OMG end of the world. For a start that is a cherry-picked score.
Have you noticed a stutter? Any delay in opening apps? Game frame drops?
On paper my significantly modified HOX is slower than a stock HOX...in REALITY it blows it away completely in every department when using it.
Also, what on earth are you using Avast for? All 10 of the possible nasties you can catch on Android? It is a CPU hog of the highest order.
Get a hold of AFWall+ from the store and use the built-in IP rules firewall through that.
Well i use avast the most part for the Anti Theft app. I can disable the scanner and the cpu wake thing, and do the benchmark again.

are you running custom or stock rom? and which kernel more information please....but okay benchmarks aren't saying anything because it's for those who don't know much about phones to tell which could be the best...in reality our phone is faster then other which should be faster then our...

I re-iterate my earlier questions/points...
Have you noticed a stutter? Any delay in opening apps? Game frame drops?
THAT is the ONLY metric that matters.

yup that's right
Have you got the latest update of the Quadrant Standard App? They say they fixed a bug in CPU core detection.

Jip i think so. Here is an example of HOX (look at the white one) with 10 pages of apps, and higher score in CPU: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swq39HXrHBA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I have the quadcore version of the HOX

Download epic citadel and do the benchmark from that and tell us the score
That is the only benchmark I've come across that tests the gaming performance of a phone well
