[Q] Newbie question about installing TWRP - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I recently managed to successfully root my Kindle Fire using KFU. Now I'd like to create a backup with TWRP but I can't figure out how to do that. The guides I found instruct me to hold down the power button for a few seconds after rebooting, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Now I wasn't aware that FFF had to be there for TWRP to work, so I installed FFF after I had already installed TWRP. Could that be the problem(installing in the incorrect order)? The color of the Kindle Fire loading icon changed to blue but still nothing happened when I held the power button down for a few seconds.
I'm sorry for asking such a simple question & I did search the forums before posting but was unable to find an answer. If somebody else has already asked this question, please feel free to link me to that thread.
Thank you all!

OK if you get to the screen with the blue kindle fire logo that's good right when you get there start depressing the power button till you get some words at the bottom of the screen one says normal boot the second says recovery press until the lines are next to recovery. that should boot you into twrp when there hit the big button that says backup that will backup your device after that's done hit the home button at the top right and select reboot this will boot you back to the os. Careful not to wipe anything till you know what your doing please.
Edit: when at the blue kindle fire screen you kinda need to depress the power button rapidly a few times the initial action is a bit stunted or sloppy you will get it if ya try. I suggest reading all this carefully to increase your knowledge before doing anything major, small mistakes can lead to huge consequences http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547

Desire stuck in recovery

Hi guys,
I feel very ashamed but here's what I've done. I only wanted to know the HBOOT version of my mobile (well, now I know, it's 0.93), but, once in HBOOT menu, I asked myself how I was supposed to quit it.
I decided to select "recovery", hoping (again, shame on me) that my choice was right.
Well, after selecting it, I'm stuck in a black screen with a image of a Desire in the center and a red triangle with an exclamation mark. You can see a link here (I had to insert two spaces [one after http and one after .c] as I am not supposed to insert links - sorry about that but if it can help you I hope it's ok):
http ://htcevohacks.c om/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/htc-evo-recovery-mode-4.jpg
Can you tell me how to get out of this awkward situation?
I thank you all in advance!!
A noob. Very very noob.
If you do not root your phone, you cannot access recovery from hboot.
Press volume up button and power button at the same time.
If this does not work, pull battery out, wait 10 minutes, pull battery in and boot phone normally.
No warranty for any damage.
Thanks MatDrOiD for your reply
I however do not intend to "try one option and cross my fingers" again, as I have just done that and seen the results myself I therefore ask if there's another suitable option.
[EDIT]: All eyes can see is what we want them to see. From your post, I saw at first only one option: "take out the battery and restart". But you gave me the solution just one line above... I pressed volume up button and power button at the same time and voilà, simple reboot and everything back to normal!
Thanks so much MatDrOiD, I owe you one
Thats not an "do that and cross your fingers" option. The first option i found for example here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...10453/help-phone-get-stuck-with-red-triangle/
I did not get from your answer, wether you tried this option or not.

Anytime.
hi, i know that is solved but just for info...
no need to pull out the battery even in a bootloop.
press power button + vol down + trackpad and the phone reboots.
Depends on when in the boot process it fails, if it stalls at initializing the kernel, the phone won't reboot doing that..
Also pulling the battery is not a stupid thing to do, when you are not flashing anything to the memory, as it won't hurt you device in any way.

Bricked Pandigital Supernova!!!

Hi Everyone!!!
I successfully rooted my Pandigital Supernova and installed google apps including google market. I really enjoyed playing around with this tablet up until yesterday. I made a stupid mistake and trying to flash recovery.img from previous fw in the terminal. I tried to reboot tablet after flashed was completed. But it did not boot up !!! it is bricked now. Please HELP!!!
Bricked Supernova
I know this is late but here is how to unbrick it:
1) Power on and wait until Pandigital shows on the screen the 2nd time.
2) Hold the power button for at least 10 seconds until the device powers down.
3) Repeat this 5 times, this increments a counter that counts failed boot attempts.
4) On the 6th time power it on, leave it on. It will reflash its own firmware at this point and you will see the android character with a box and an arrow as well as a progress bar. Hope this helps anyone

This absolutely works! I bricked my SuperNova twice and recovered using this method.
Rooting Pandigital Supernova - HowTo
I see where you were able to root the Supernova.
I have been unable to do even that. I've tried everything I can find on the net to accomplish this, but I've had no success. I've tried the Gingerbreak.apk, OpenNova-ROOT-Spz0-v.1.0.update, and the market-3.0.26-update - all to no avail.
Would you explain how you were able to root the device, before you bricked it with a FW upgrade. I'd appreciate any suggestions/help.
Royally messed mine up
In tinkering with a firmware image for a PanDigital SuperNova, I flashed a logo file that was too big and I believe it's overwritten the recovery.img
Power on + volume yields nothing. I get my corrupted logo file flash up and no buttons light.
I tried doing this on/off cycle but it does not re-flash any sort of fallback.
Anyone know if there is a way to hard-reset these tablets and flash something over via USB?
Hi,
Could you please tell me what instructions u followed to root Pandigital Supernova?

[Q] Rooted Amazon Kindle Fire, now bricked and my computer(windows 7) cant find it

I rooted my KF about a month ago, and its been working fine since, then my friend told me to download firefirefire and NWRP from the kindle fire utility(which i used to root). In the process of downloading firefirefire, a boot symbol pops up with the kindle fire logo and an android bot over it. Its been stuck like that since, and my computer wont read the kindle when its plugged into the usb. Im also sort of a noob, so please help?
You admittedly said you're a noob so you should read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547 . Your kindle isn't bricked. It's in fastboot mode. There are a few ways you can handle this situation. Search the forums as your situation is not unique and has been discussed all over these threads. If your still having problems and can't figure it out come back here for help.
The screen your looking at is the bootloader screen the problem is your still looking at it. This replaced the old fff boot loader the yellow triangle. If you end up stuck at the yellow triangle, in KF Utility select Boot Normal, wait for it to say <waiting for device> and then press and hold the power button 20 seconds until the fire turns off, then when its off turn it back on. This sometimes happens, I have yet to find a clean solution If you end up stuck with a yellow triangle, do not EVER unplug it. Leave it plugged in. Check the windows drivers to make sure it isnt showing as "kindle" again. Fastboot is different and can cause this.
You can hold down the power button till it fully powers off ,then power it on when you see the screen your stuck at hold the power button again till it turns orange and twrp opens up if not read more to find out what to do next

If you get your kindle booting correctly I suggest you flash the new bootloader 1.4a by Hashcode. You can find that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632375 This new bootloader has some additional options, one which will allow you to tell the KF to boot normally if you were to find yourself in this situation again.

[Q] Stuck in Recovery Mode

I have a wifi Nexus 7, unlocked and stock.
Recently, my tablet got stuck in a boot loop. After reading previous threads and replies, I tried to wipe and do a factory reset.
However, I can't get to the menu in the recovery mode.
I am able to get to the menu where I chose recovery,
My screen shows the dead Android with a red triangle and exclamation point...but I can't get past that.
Prior threads have alternately suggested power button and volume up button simultaneously, or volume up button alone...
But my tablet won't respond to either.
After the dead robot appears, the tablet appears to reboot and is stuck in boot loop again.
Any ideas?

Show GoofBall some thanks. This is not the end of the world. Totally fixable!
Almost 99% of these issues have been addressed. I know how the pucker factor can set in when a device WILL NOT work right. Wrong time to panic. In fact, and no offense to you, the fixes for these issues are available. I understand that it can be a bit tricky navigating for the exact solution to your problem, but they are out there.
If you get in a hurry to "fix it" you might end up "fuxing it".
That is why research is so important when doing these modifications. Read ALL of the installation steps. Forwards and backwards. Memorize them. Keep reading past page 1. There are usually hiccups that get reported and fixed. I will read the entire thread, but most of the times if you read the 1st 5 pages and the last 5 pages of any thread, you will be fine. Bugs get worked out pretty darn quick around here.
For the extra paranoid, do not upgrade to the latest nightlie. Give it a few nights. AND CHECK THE THREAD FOR ISSUES. :good:
All of us are striving for a better experience, even when we don't need it. These Nexus 7 2013 tablets are so damn kick as out of the gate, the only mods really needed are Root, and Custom Recovery. I won't even mention how I feel that TWRP or CWM SHOULD be partnered with Google. Oops, I just did ..
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.
Since I couldn't get the unit to boot, I was unable to try your suggestion.
And since my tablet was under warranty, I returned it to the store and swapped it out for a new one.

Would you be willing to describe what went wrong when you followed those steps? Any errors, bootloops...etc.
Feedback is quite helpful.

I'm not sure what happened with my tablet. It had been working fine...I was using it yesterday when it locked up....I went to reboot it and discovered it was in a boot loop.
I was able to get it into recovery mode, but had difficulty getting to the recovery menu where I planned to factory reset the unit.
I later was able to do that, but the tablet continued to get stuck in the boot loop mode.
As mentioned earlier, since it was under warranty, I swapped it out at the store and have been busy today, downloading all my apps on the new tablet.
Have there been problems with the volume up and down keys? Those keys did not seem to be performing as they should during this mis-adventure.
You probably were pressing the wrong sequence of buttons.
The Android fallen down screen is an overlay over the recovery menu. To bring the menu to the foreground, you need to press in this exact order:
Press/Hold Power, Press/Release VolUp, Release Power
This post has all the info on how to enter bootloader, recovery, etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397282
Even if you know from other platforms, I suggest reading it because Nexus is slightly different, enough that it can be frustrating. Often people think they should be pressing Power and VolUp at the same time when it needs to be one before the other. Other times, people think they should be pressing VolUp&VolDown, when it is really one or the other.
Great Summary
Great Summary, I have a Galaxy Nexus and you're right...it is confusing to remember the sequence from one installation to another.
As I recall, and my index finger is still sore from pressing the volume buttons....I was used Power and Volume Down to get into the Fastboot, Restart and Recovery Mode...I would select Recovery and the unit would reboot
From there however, I kept getting the dead robot...

Please Help - I tried rooting

**Fixed, I just had to press Power + Volume Up**
Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if I am submitting this post in the right location by here goes.
I have always been interested in rooting a phone to see what I can do with it. I already have a Pixel 2 XL so I thought I'd get the Razer as a secondary phone to give it a shot. I was following the tutorial in this forum (https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone/how-to/twrp-magisk-fullproof-guide-razers-wifi-t3756137) and got through Steps 1-8 and was at the part where I needed to "boot.img" from Slot A. When I was unable to find the "boot.img" panicked. I went back to the TWRP main menu and saw an option to power down (I did not use the power button on the device to do so). My phone reset itself to the screen with the Razer logo with "Powered by android" below it and it is now stuck there. Did I just brick my phone, or is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thank you in advance for any and all help
