Being a qwerty fan, I did some homework and concluded Captivate Glide as the ideal phone for me.
But the problem is, I'm in India and they don't sell this model in India.
Assuming I arrange to sneak one from the US, what are the possible issues I might face? Like connectivity issues or something?
Can I get an unlocked version from the US or unlock codes will be required to use it with carriers in India? It has a SIM slot, right?
and lastly, is CyanogenMod available for Captivate Glide?
Thanks in anticipation!

Never had a single connectivity issue. But i did have sleep deaths (were the device wont wake up during sleep), it did happen only once or twice, until now, never experienced any

Yes the glide is a GSM device, works with SIM cards. There are unlock codes available, but because the glide is only months old (almost a year), you might get your unlock code quite delayed from unlocking companies.

as per the Devs here and in teamhacksung, the Glide is capable of running CyanogenMod. If time permits, devs can get CM ported on the Glide.

In December I had bought an Captivate Glide through eBay for a great deal..
Got it to India, through Borderlinx - http://www.borderlinx.com/pages/how-it-works
(slightly costlier compared to other service providers) with duty and taxes..
+ Unlocking - 20 to 25$..
Overall it came below 500$.. I guess now it will be much cheaper..

Seeing you are from India, I tried to PM you the day I created this thread, but it didn't work somehow!
supposing I can have someone get me a piece from the US, I should suggest them to buy an unlocked version, right?
Will I still need to unlock it again in India? (Like with American_Unlocker and all?)
Also, are you facing any sort of problems with the sub-par network providers in India?

If you can get an unlocked AT & T or Rogers version (without carrier symbol), there is no need to unlock it again in india. once unlocked, stays for forever..
You will not face any problem with any sim provider..
At india carriers use 2G - GSM 900/1800 and 3G-UMTS 2100.
This phone has 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
I love to see how many people are using this phone all around the world ! Or at least trying too!

Which deal to go for?
I have contacted someone in the US who will order the phone online, collect it and bring it to India.
Now the question is, which deal to go for? (among the choices given below?
OR
Can it bought at the stores and unlocked later through AmericanUnlocker?
Preferably, I'd choose to do the latter, if its possible!
Anyway, the online deals I could get are:
1. http://canadagsm.ca/SAMSUNG/Captivate-Glide-i927/
I don't think this is the Rogers version! I wouldn't want the AT&T logo on my phone, but then this isn't a deal breaker. $325 seems like a good price.
2. http://negrielectronics.com/samsung-sgh-i927-captivate-glide-rogers-unlocked-black.html
At $455, its almost a $100 expensive. I don't understand the reason!
3. http://negrielectronics.com/samsung-captivate-glide-at-t-black-unlocked.html
This is available for $349! Only because its AT&T and the former is Rogers!
4. http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Samsung-Cap...&_pcategid=15032&_dmpt=Cell_Phones&_dashexp=1
Ebay is giving it for $310 !!
Now this is confusing!! Why the fluctuation in prices?
<< Bump >>
Anyone? :s

I am thinking about getting the touch pro 2, and instead of waiting until AT&T finally releases it, I am thinking about biting the bullet and buying the unbranded unlocked version. My question is will the 3G still work. I have heard that 3G does not work on non-AT&T phones, or is that only if you buy an unlocked TMobile phone? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Search the forum, this has been answered 7,000 times.
Sorry, I did search and came up with thousands of answers and none of them seemed to answer my question specifically.
Ok, here the answer again by 7001 time
Europe original unbranded version will work only in Europe and Asia 3G and not in America networks
Just ordered the Tmo version today but I really like the unlocked version. Do you guys think there is a possibilty that the Euro version has support for AWS and is just not activated! I'm pretty sure this has been asked, but a search brought me no specific results. Why can't Tmobile just leave well enough alone!
7002
no, it won't work with AWS. only the Tmobile version does. EU doesn't work with any North American 3G, etc, etc, etc....
You could purchase the unlocked Australian version; 3G should work here, but that will cost $$$$.

Thanks for the information. Saved me from buying an unlocked version that won't work on AT&T's 3G. Will just have to wait for AT&T, just hope it isn't that long of a wait.
Would I be able to buy it from AT&T (when available) on a separate, new account, unlock it, pay the termination fee, and use it on my regular AT&T account with little problem? It's cheaper to terminate than buy off contract, most of the time, as long as they don't give me any trouble. Should it work?

If anyone had experience buying with that store would be great to hear the input!!
Thanks in advance,
I have an unbranded TP2. I didn't want to wait any longer for AT&T to release theirs and I don't like the way they are going with their keyboard layout. I know 3G is important for most folks, but my essential needs is data connection for email and EDGE is doing a pretty damn good job. Maybe if I am waiting in line or something related to that, I may wish I had a faster connection to watch youtube, but for the most part, I have no regrets.

Yes that should work. But, how much is the termination fee? If you are paying $200 less to sign a 2-year contract then I'm sure the termination fee will be at least $200. Otherwise, I can't imagine at&t would make it that easy. Plus I'm sure you will have to pay for the first month of service, you won't get that back.
Hey,
Does anyone know if there are any plans to bring this device to Europe or if I can import it from Japan or something?
I love the look of it, but I really want a phone with at least 32gb storage which isn't looking likely atm... If none of the nokia phones have 32gb+ I really want to try and get one of these Fujitsu phones.
been very interested in the is12t as well for availability. but its been dead silent
Its unlikely as it was provisioned by the carrier in Japan KDDI or something like that. Also it is CDMA and the tech used in Japan will only work in Japan on the cdma network there.
It is possible another, similar device for GSM could be released after some prior of time.

Well, just call those shops which import Japanese games and comics and they should do the job for you.
Here is the link in Yahoo Japan, which sells IS12T standalone machines without contract and SIM lock.
http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/...d&f=0x2&slider=0&tab_ex=commerce&ei=UTF-8&b=1
I may consider to get one, as NAND built-in should be much faster than MicroSD in my Trophy, esp. 32GB ones.
it's better than this device's running GSM Networktechnology

白ロム(White ROM) = empty ROM
ロッククリア済(Lock clear finished) = unlocked
Many of them just said empty ROM but without stating unlocked, which are possibly be locked ones.
In google by typing "IS12T unlock" there should have website suggestions which are selling unlock services.
BTW, how much in total have you got? I may also would like to have one if it is not too costly.

They said, but there are somebody who has full paid the machine should have got the unlocked ones. (Unlocked by default/standalone, locked when got bundled plan)
According to this site:
http://nanapho.jp/archives/tag/IS12T/page/2/
You may check if it is really unlocked.
Step:
1) Choose "Wi-Fi" in "Settings"
2) Press the "PRL Setting" button for 10 secs or more
3) Press "*6#27" when the numeric keypad comes out
4) The page will be jumped to "Information"
If the column "Line Registered" is 0, then it is unlocked, otherwise (1) it is locked.
Thank you for the information.
I checked it and it says "0" so it is unlocked!
Maybe my sim cards are not working properly I had some issues earlier.
I tried different things and nothing seems to work :-(
If someone is interested I am going to sell it for 380 euro just pn me

There is currently no 'free' way of sim unlocking your device if you hang around long enough someone may write a program to do it but you may be waiting a while. Quite a few members have stated the unlock code can be obtained over ebay within 2 hours for around £9 which is a good price. You could also contact your carrier and tell them you want to take your phone abroad and use a different sim card in it while you are away to save costs. Sometimes they will unlock it for free.

a warning about sim unlock: I got my nexus today from vodafone spain and as expected it was locked. I got an unlock code from ebay and it worked like a charm.
But, I like to play with new phones first, then restore defaults and set everything up the way I want it. The thing is, the galaxy nexus doesn't remember the network unlock code between factory resets, at least mine doesn't (yakju, came with ITL41F).
The codes work, but you may need yours again, so don't throw the number away

Hello Mark, is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus an universal phone? Can I use the unlocked version with LTE carriers in the future? I am in US and Verizon is the only LTE carrier I was wondering about using T-Mobile (HSPS technology) or wait for Sprint (my current carrier). I live in USA but I am thinking about moving to Japan so I wonder if I should just wait and maybe I will need to get one in Japan with one of their carriers... Also I love the forums and it is all great, but is there an IRC room for this questions as well?

The GSM version can be purchased unlocked and used on any GSM carrier with their supplied SIM card. The GSM frequencies are listed for the Galaxy Nexus and they cover the majority of GSM international and US domestic carriers.
The LTE version, as far as we've heard, is only for Verizon in the US. Not sure what LTE technologies other carriers in other countries are using.
If you're interested in having an international capable version of the deivce, the GSM version is currently your best option.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
I would also like to purchase such a code, but how ist it with OTA updates? Still avialable?
How would it be if I later root my phone and put on a custom rom? Will it be still unlocked.
or
cant I just put on a custom rom, to sim-unlock the phone and save those costs?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Thanks

Custom Roms cannot sim unlock your phone as it isnt part of the system.
Flashing an OTA update or a custom rom will not affect your phone if you have sim unlocked it with a code.
MArk.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have contacted my carrier (A1 Austria) and complained about the simlock. To make a long story short, they finally gave me the simunlock pin.
But recently I unlocked the bootlader and the unlock was wiped so I needed to reenter the pin. After I reflashed the original rom (back to stock) the sim was locked again.
And the most strange thing happened today. I just restarted the phone today (as every day) and the sim was locked again. So reentered the pin to unlock.
My question now, can it be that the simumlock pin they have provided me is not correctly working or is this a normal behaviour or a bug?
Br, Avi

i have one and its working just fine.
If it's unlocked, it will work just fine, otherwise you will have to unlock it by buying an unlocking code (they go for around $20). Btw I think there are cheaper offerings on ebay as far as the glide is concerned, take a closer look
Yes but on this auction there is + 32gb micro sd so i think its a good deal, and they are shipping to Poland (i didnt find better deal with shipment to my country, but i'll search again after work).
Go to http://www.cellunlocker.net/ for unlocking captivate glide on Rogers. I got 2 of them unlocked and these guys provided me the unlock key within couple of hours and costed me just 8 USD per unlock. Also save the key for future use as flashing any ROM would re-lock your glide again.
Rogers version is without any logo? its only difference? i cant find any good deal of this version on ebay.. do you guys know any good store?
i'll buy glide on auction from 1st post i cant find better deal,
thanks for help guys

GSM 900/1800/1900 works, GSM 850 not works
UMTS 2100 works, UMTS 850/1900 not works
4G will not work at all
WiFi channels 1-11 works, while WiFi channel 12-13 not.
On stock ROM you will not be able to use tethering.
I'm from Italy and i purchased my Captivate Glide from negrielectronics. Unfortunately, SCG are usually out of stock in this store, so i was really lucky to find it (well, i still had to wait three months, but since this vendor is very reliable and offers international shipment in 72 hours, it's still a lucky break).
Anyway:
- this phone perfectly works here in Italy. We are both in EU, so I think standards are the same, but check what frequencies are in use in your country and by your mobile provider. If they are the same the phone supports, it's okay.
- this phone comes unlocked and this is what you need. Finding an unlock code is quite easy and cheap (20-25 $) but if this is already done, good for you. Anyway, my advice is to ask the seller if this phone has its own unique IMEI. Unlocking processes may result either in a very 'clean' job (that means that your phone is simply unlocked and ready to be used with any sim) or in erasing the IMEI. This means that your device gets a generic IMEI, not a unique one. This doesn't mean the phone won't work, but in some country providers don't allow access to their networks to devices carrying generic IMEI ('safety' reasons). I read that this could happen in UK, but I didn't check by myself. I don't have to worry in Italy (and anyway, I have a unique IMEI, so..)
- be aware that you will have to pass through customs controls. This always happens with electronics good and with good valued more than 20$ more or less. Check the VAT fare in your country, you'll have to pay it when the good gets in EU. It is about 20-21% of the total price you paid (sadly, often INCLUDING shipment). Be aware of this and check if the shipping company is reliable. My phone came with FedEx, so I could really trust them, but customs controls could delay delivery and always bring some fees + VAT.
- price seems good. Not the deal of your life, but fair.
All this could seem a bit complicated, but you're welcome if you have more questions. This is what i collected through some months of 'study', since SCG is not an European phone and i wanted to be sure that it could work. Anyway on XDA you'll meet many users enjoying their SCG from all over the world. I can say SCG was totally worth this effort.
Hope it was helpful.

Not big difference, except the logo. There's a thread somewhere in Captivate Glide Forum.
Roger version has much less languages.
AT&T blocks tethering, but i could very easily bypass this just using a third-party tethering app. Piece of cake.
Well I can tell you I'm in England and did the same thing and mine works perfectly.

Hey all,
Just unlocked my i927R (which I got from NewEgg -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176361) and thought I'd post my findings, since most places are a lot more expensive for unlocking. I'd seen some places want $40. Rogers wanted $85 (I'm in the US, so I had to create an account with them for prepaid for $60, then pay $25 after... but they needed a Canadian Postal Code... which was dumb, since I live about as far away from Canada as you can in the States)
I used http://cell-unlock-now.com/ and it was $8.49, which was the cheapest I found. Gave them my IMEI number and they sent me an unlock code in an hour. I plugged in a new SIM card, was prompted to unlock, and entered the number -- and it worked without a problem. Phone unlocked and is working great on StraightTalk using an AT&T compatible SIM.
Anyone on the fence about swapping to this phone -- it's totally worth it. Came from the Samsung Epic 4G and it has had a good life -- but it's time to get something a bit faster and better.

As far as I know, you cannot unlock for a continent. Not even the southern one.

Bummer on the $60. $25 is their standard charge for a SIM.

Hawaii?
- hold on, don't you guys have other islands even further out? Phillipines?
- foreign bases, embassies?
(-:
Don't understand why you needed to register / a sim card (unless you wanted one) - wouldn't the unlock code have just worked with the fureign SIM and the unlock code?
I know there are companies that will receive ordered goods that must have a U.S. address destination. Are there no equivalents in Canada?
Naw, I didn't have to pay any of that, is what I'm saying. I just used another service that was infinitely cheaper -- and wanted to let everyone know (or anyone know) who went down a similar path to mine. The site I linked has inexpensive prices for unlock codes that actually work. Otherwise, yeah, Rogers was unreasonable and stupid, but I imagine they're trying to protect people from using a phone outside of their network... but there is no way I'd ever be able to be their customer.
And you're right -- it's not unlocking for a continent, hah! Sorry, been trying to help the Droid 4 folks get organized -- the D4 has a hard-wired (somewhere) stop to not accept US SIMs (even when unlocked), but works great overseas on their GSM networks. So, we're trying to figure out a way to bypass that -- not sure if it's in radio firmware (probably is) or in the ROM (probably not -- nobody has seen anything to cause us to believe it is in the ROM/kernel).
Hi!!
If there are someone interested in it, I unlocked my glide with www* .cellunlocker. *net (without spaces and asterisks) it was about 8 euros (I live in Spain and my phone was bought in usa. I have Simyo and I was in Greek, and Italy last week with it and there was no problem, so I recommend cellunlocker ).
I hope someone find this information useful.

Ah! Thanks for that. It wasn't clear that you were saying that's what you avoided paying by using the service. Good to know!
go to the android market and download galxsim. i used it to unlock my captivate glide I927R to all Networks without any unluck codes.
