Hey Guys,
I'm on HTC One X, Stock.
This is really frustrating .. I'm connected on both, my WiFi and my carrier, and Gmail is not syncing, and not receiving new mail, Play Store also shows no connection, while Chrome works and regular email works !
Seen some people around the web with the same kinda problem, but no real solutions there.
Appreciate your help ..
Thanks!
Had the same problem today. Worked on mobile connection but then when I went back to wifi it said no connection. Restarted the phone left it on wifi for some time and it started working.
Thanks for replying man ..
What I did is i installed Kaspersky Anti-virus, and although it detected no threats according to it .. It has actually solved the problem.
I noticed that there was one extra shortcut on my home screen that says "Search", I deleted it as well, not really knowing if that was a bug, and its removal was THAT easy ..
Hope this can help someone else

Hi all,
I am loving my TP2 but have a couple of annoying issues. anyone else experiencing the same...?
Firstly Opera keeps crashing. Tends to happen when trying to log in to a site. www.facebook.com mobile site is fine but crashes if I try to log in to the full site. I downloaded Opera 9.7beta and it does the same on that one too.
Also my internet connection keeps dropping. If downloading emails it might download the headers then lose the connection. Sometimes pressing send/receive gets it back online but othertimes it wont connect again until I go in to comm manager and turn the phone radio off then back on.
Frustrating problems that I didn't expect from a brand new device.
Never tried logging into the full site. I tried it right now but it I can't even input my username. So I gave up. Using the mobile site is just as good. I don't think it can handle the full site anyway.
I have never lost my connection in a good reception area. It could be your area or your carrier that has a weak reception. Try in a different area or try the phone using another network or carrier. Ask a friend to help you that uses a different network.
Make sure they are ok with you using data tho.
I had the same problem when logging on full Facebook site on my old Kaiser with Opera 9b1, it was crashing.
But on my TP2 using the included Opera, its working quite good without crashing.
Maybe you installed another sofware that uses all the memory ? just a random guess.
Looks like the HTC built in T-Mobile settings could be the cause.
The built in settings have a Proxy Server setting that I couldnt remove so I set up a new connection using:
general.t-mobile.uk
user
pass
And did not set up a static IP address. It seems to be stabler in the 20 mins I have used it and I can now log in using the WM Facebook program as previously it would not let me log in.
Hope that helps someone.
I'm back again for some help!
I have managed to get Facebook working and Opera no longer crashes using the new data settings I entered but I am still losing my data connection.
When I lose it I get the "Cannnot connect for an unknown reason" pop up box. If I clear it I can occassionally get the connection to then activate but usually I am having to cycle the phone radio within Comm Manager before it will go online. This is really annoying as if the box comes up it won't check for email till I OK the message and get the data connection working again.
I am using a T-Mob sim that worked fine in my Tytn II and checked all settings but all seems ok.
Could it be a faulty radio that keeps kicking me offline? Calls seem ok. I have dropped a few but have also had 30 min + calls so seems to be specific to data.

I had the same problem when i first got mine had to do 2 hard resets before it went away, after it returned again i just started using the energy rom and never looked back
Opera 9.7 beta
I tried installing the new Opera beta on the unlocked/unbranded Touch Pro 2 it either doesn't start getting stuck at the splash screen or it starts and then crashes after a click or two. I am unable to use it at all. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Hello
Got my phone today, love it...(although reception is poor in the middle of my Basement flat! )
Anyway, im new to android but ive managed to set up my account to get stuff from the market place, ive got seesmic and the update for google maps ready for download but the just seem to be sitting in the "currently downloading" section of the store, each one says starting to download but there's no progress on the bar (just the little candy striped thing turning, but no actual downloading !)
whats up with that !?
Could very well be something dumb ive done or not done !
any help
(although reception is poor i am connected through my wifi, i guess that works for downloading apps too!?)
It can happen sometimes, just cancel download and start it up again... Maybe try doing one at a time...
If the problem persists let us know...
Probably something to do with your reception, I notice it seems to be buggy when downloading and your connection switches from 3G to 2G
Thanks Man
Ill give it a go and see what happens
on a side note, i remember your post about the store being slow and you having to enable some content or something...what was that about ?

I have no idea, it seems to have fixed itself now. Definately something to do with T-Mobile's rom and their content lock for under 18's not the OS itself.
just went for a factory reset in the end !
Still, sorted the problem nicely
Cheers Chaps
Also, whilst im on, anyone have any views on the best browser for the phone ?
Not that i dont like the default one, just wondered about peoples favourite alternatives
Thanks

Dolphin and Opera Mini are popular alternatives.
I have this problem as well. It appears on and off and I can't find a pattern. Sometimes rebooting the phone solves the problem and other times it doesn't.
question. Your network got a content lock? could it be screwing up the market?
I know i had to disable t-mobiles one just to even get in there.
I'm just giving the latest opera browser a go. While it's quite different, i do like it! It seems a little faster to use than the default one. My suggestion is to go with juicydefender, for the first week if not all the time. It really does enhance the battery life. Doubled mine for my first week
How to configure juicedefender in the proper way? I managed to set it to use Wifi only at specified time, but how can I force the other softwares (weather widget, gmail client, etc.) to use the data connection in THAT period of time when juicedefender turns the wifi on?
I have a annoying problem with the inbuilt Google Talk app on my Desire.
When I turn the screen off Google Talk disconnects from the server and I don't receive any new messages until I turn the screen back on. Google Talk displays a message saying "Lost connection to server. Messages will be sent when online".
I have "always-on mobile data" active in my network settings. Have tried to disable the automatic away status and even resetting the phone to no avail. I have also created a new Google account and that hasn't helped either.
I use my phone on the Aussie 3 network. Can anyone else with Desire on the Aussie 3 network tell me whether or not theirs is doing the same? Also my Desire is the Aussie Telstra branded one.
Just to note the only way I can use Google Talk properly is if I use eBuddy. eBuddy does not disconnect when the screen is off.
Hi danielhtc,
How did you go with solving this problem?
I too have a HTC Desire and use the 3 network in Brisbane. All was working fine with Google Talk up to a few weeks ago when I started noticing that I would just loose connection. Not sure if the problem started immediately after the Froyo update, I wish I paid more attention now.
Using the GTalk Service App from the market I see that I'm loosing connection all the time. At first it appeared to be random, and know it is almost everytime the phone screen locks.
I spent hours trawling the net and still have no answer. I have flushed the cached data for Talk, Factory reset the phone and even tried a new Gmail account with a factory reset of the phone, all to no avail.
I've talked with 3 and they calim they can't do anything to help me figure out what is going on as it not a 3 Australia supplied handset so no guarantees etc..
Strange thing is that it was working fine for months, and then all at a sudden problems... At the moment my money is that 3 has done something to their data network, however it still could be an issue with the phone. Unfortunately until I can try my account with a new Desire I wont know for certain.

My whatsapp isn't working properly. Am I the only one? It doesn't push messages to my phone, when I check the status of the server it is unavailable, but after rebooting the phone it works fine. So it seems to be dropping the connection to the server and not reconnecting.

I can't even get past the create a nickname screen, says I have no data connection?

Hello,
A few days ago I started receiving a notification saying "Sign in to network" and below that the name of my carrier (see the screenshot). When I click on the notification, the browser opens up but does not load any page and just stays blank. At that time the notification disappears but then appears again after a while.
Has anyone seen this and do you know why it may be appearing? I am fully stock on 4.2 and unrooted.
Thanks!
Does nobody know?
Hi,
Same problem here (with Mtel network operator),
After updating to 4.2.1 the problem still persists. After I click on the notification it asks me to open in a browser and then opens this address for a second 173.194.70.101/generate_204 , and turns into blank page.
I think that when I walk away from one network cell to a another it asks me to sign into the new cell, but I am not really sure..
I`ll keep posting if I find the solution..
Not sure if there is any difference for GSM variants of Gnex, but have you tried updating your PRL & Profile?
(Settings>About Phone>MTel? system updates)
Sometimes after a flash/upgrade until I update my Sprint profile, service seems spottier. Only other thing I can think is that your phone somehow is no longer provisioned with your carrier, shouldn't be the case (I think) when dealing with GSM carriers since your SIM what provisions the phone, but maybe poke around settings to see if there is some sort of self-provisioning option, or call M-tel.
Check your APNs. You might need new/corrected APN settings or something. That usually shows up when you're on a network (usually WiFi) that needs a user/password or accept a disclaimer to get through to the internet.
However on a mobile network the APN should serve as the connection settings and the SIM serves as authentication to the network. Normally you wouldn't be able to connect to mobile internet. Does MMS work?

Hey, guys, thanks for your input. Actually, since yesterday I stopped receiving this notification all of a sudden. I have not done anything in the mean time, so I guess it was something on the carrier's end that got resolved or something.

I'm also facing the same problem. I'm on Vodafone Portugal and occasionally I'm with full network signal but I don't have internet. When I check the notification bar I have that same message and if I click it, it opens the same "empty" web page.
I'm running stock 4.2.1 yakju.

Hi there. Since this issue disappeared for me without any action on my end, I am assuming that it is related to something on the carrier's end. It may be worth contacting your carrier's support?
im facing into the same issue too.. but still not solved till now..
its not apn related problems for me..

Hi there. By trial and error i found out that this icon starts appearing when the carrier throttles your internet speed. For example, I have unlimited internet traffic but when I reach 512 MB of traffic, the internet speed is lowered to 128 kbps. This is when the icon starts appearing for me. I also found out that if you dismiss it, it will appear again if you change connections (e.g. go from wifi to mobile). I find this behaviour annoying but I found no way to prevent it, as it seems to be something on the carrier's side.
I have the same problem only on my android phone (4.2.2) Samsung Galaxy S3 when I am at my home WIFI..
Could it be a virus. only diffference is the IP.. my browser tries to load this: 173.194.35.99/generate_204
i've blocked this IP. I can't even access play store now! rest all things work

i dnt think its caused by virus. Try check ur apn setting. Or reformat ur phone.
When you connect a mobile device with Google Play via WiFi, I have found that I must allow ssl traffic via port 5228. This connection I think is an authorization service deployed by Google. If you trust it or not, when you block outbound port 5228 (or if you block Googles' ip's) you will see the "sign into network" This is because Google Play assumes (poorly) you are connected to a WiFi network which requires a captive portal login (ie Hotel WiFi sign-in page). I am no dev but I believe the "generate_204" thing just forces the mobile browser to open a new tab so the login page will appear. It's not spooky just annoying.
Why did Google choose to deploy ssl over port 5228 and not the standard 443? Not sure, but it might lead to your Firewall's security policy blocking it as it did for mine.
I started getting the same notification on my nexus 5 recently. I had reached my data fair usage allowance and so it started appearing. I noticed that in the data usage setting the warning bar was set to my fair usage limit so I just raised the bar and hey presto no more warnings. Based on this I reckon when your data usage cycle resets each month you'll see the warning disappear until you hit your limit again.
Just done a quick test by dropping the data usage bar back to where it originally was, turned off WiFi and started browsing the web. The warning appeared again.

I have had this issue ever since I got this current phone (not a Samsung, but hear me out). From what I can tell, it is because it can not contact someone (probably Google) via cellular network. I also get this when on a WiFi connection with no internet (or very, very slow), further supporting this.
I am in an interesting situation. My carrier only has 1 APN for both MMS and data combined. However, I only get MMS with my plan, not full data. Therefore, I need to keep data enabled in Android to use MMS. Because of this I get this notification ALL THE TIME.
I'm going to try to get a logcat when it happens and see if I can find the exact service and maybe kill it. I'll update if I figure it out.

I have the same problem. It make notification at the time u linked to mobile data too, and i can't suffer it any more.So i have searched all internet and have no progress. But i found the way to block its notifications rather than voiding generation.
It's a notification generated from "Android System" and seems like a network-check function. So the problem have the mobile carrier's part(I'm in china, you know). And u can't block all notifications of "Android System" using tools like LBE or Gravitybox or anyothers cause it is useful all the time.
This Xposed Mod can help us: NotifyClean, it is the only tool to block several notifications u want of one app.
Use it in ur rooted system with xposed framework, and open it from xposed. It can log all notifications and u can tick the "Sign in to network"s in "Android System".
