Managed to get an ICS Rom on my HTC Legend.
I've got my hands on a Desire now and I'd like to do the same.
K900 and Sandvold both have pretty spiffy roms, what are the differences?
Once I unlock the bootloader what additional steps are there compared to the legend?
Thanks
The steps are basicaly the same for Desire and Legend, but depending on ur hboot version, it could be easier to use unrevoked or revolutionary instead of official bootloader unlock because those tools are rooting the phone at the same time. The difference between s-off and htc bootloader unlock is that s-off unlocks radio partition and one more, im unsure witch.

Hi,
Just got my first ever htc phone the htc desire locked on 3 (UK)
I was looking around and I am preparing to root the phone using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
It says however that your device must be hboot 0.93 or lower. I checked and it says my phone is 0.93.0001 is it still okay to use this guide to root it?
Also will rooting my phone unlock it or must the phone be unlocked to root it?
Thanks in advanced and sorry if this is a noob question.
Unrevoked 3 will work.
I have the exact same Hboot version, and I got a custom rom on it.(rooted, s-off, alpharev Hboot)
And what does that mean?
Does it mean they are s-off, or does it mean you can run any RUU without a goldcard or getting "Your device is newer than update" hboot error messages?
I assume whatever Hboot we'll still be able to root with unrEVOked so what will be the advantage?
Matt
Desire never had locked bootloader.
Ok I'm obviously a bit confused with my terminology I assumed that as they had baked s-on into the kernel necessitating users to boot their pc into a custom linux distro to flash a hboot that had the s-on check disabled constituted a locked bootloader.
So will we still have to do all that with the gingerbread updates whatever?
I don't think that unlocked bootloader means s-off, its too risky for htc.... But they will be able to root& flash other roms than the official...just like they were before the desire s and sensation series
Sent from my HTC Desire
That is yet to be confirmed...
I wont install the official Update and wait for some developer to cook a Rom based on Stock GB,... maybe just for stability..
One question tikles my mind... I have S-OFF... and had made a nandroid backup of my FW... its Sim unlocked Desire via sim unlock sim utility...
Whether I can connect to internet to get Official update or not?
My girlfriend hope to remove some build in unnecessary app.
so i try to root her wildfire s.
But problems appear.
I am able to unlock the phone: from unlock to lock.
but then my hboot version change from. 1.08 to 1.08.0999
and keeping s-on
then I can no longer s-off it anymore.... Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all welcome to xda!
And second of all.....if you don't have a CDMA version of the Wildfire S....You CANNOT S-OFF it with a software for now.....there is a hardware called XTC-Clip which can S-OFF the phone but its too costly(check here)
And BTW unlocking the bootloader is enough for rooting the phone
If you looked around a bit you could have found about 20 similar threads......if you are new it doesnt mean everyone is new......people will just freak out looking at this thread
So please search before posting
About s-off
Sorry about that, I do search for long time about root. But since my hboot version is 1.08999 I cannot flash any recovery into my phone as they are all for version 0.9. Other say My version : unlocked hboot 1.08999 s-on is already mean s-off but I cannot flash any recovery to the phone....=[
I have been trying to get s-off on my desire hd using htcdev website, everything went ok, but bootloader is still saying s-on. Does anyone know what may cause this problem? I am running amdroid 2.3.5, sw number is 3.12.405.1, kernel 2.6.35.10, baseband 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M. Device was already rooted by HTC Quick Root /w universal exploit
Thanks in advance
Htcdev will not get you S-Off. It will only unlock your bootloader, but it will still be S-On. You need AAHK for S-Off.
I can't get off either. Oh, that's s-off. Missed that.
Sent from the short bus
Relocked the bootloader and run aahk.
Read intensely on http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?cat=6
relocked bootloader and used aahk, thanks guys
Hi ,
I unlocked many new devices and now i get an M8 device with HTC dev unlock.
My last HTC was a desire s, so iam not up to date with HTC at the moment.
If i know a way to flash an unlocked hboot.img to mmcblk0p11 can i get troubles with THW phone?
HTC sells soff full unlocked devices, if i flash this partition to my device and Boot to bootloader and change then my cid must the m8 work normaly, right?
I want flash it not with the board HTC methode, but direct partition to partition.
If someone tried this vor can give me infos that wäre nice.
THX for help
Can't be done. Only way to get S-OFF is to use Sunshine
i dont think so.
Tried it with my desire x. Rootet and s-on. but for this device i had an hboot image from the same cid model.
What do you mean with that cant be done?
That its not possible because HTC security mechanism give me info like "is not possible because of..." or you mean the flash goes well but after that flash the device make trouble?
THX for help
Without S-OFF you have no access to any other partitions other than those required to flash a new ROM
Backup

Click to collapse
Thats not right in all. Some ways are always there. I have made a backup of every partition from the M8 now.
I could flash it with a little trick, get no error message but i try it first with my old Sensation XE. Iam loooking for a Hboot right now for the XE and then i trust me to give the M8 a shot.
I will post what is happening
But you can't write the data back onto the phone without S-OFF
