There's no method of achieving s-off yet, so you're set.

Thank s , will be flashing soon.
The stock Rom, with sense is quite nice, but full of bugs, so can't wait to get a stable Rom on here and release the hardware.

[Q] Can I flash custom rom with rooted DHD?

Hi All
I'm not a complete noob but so much to learn
I've successfully rooted and s-off and custom rom a sensation and a couple of tablets.
However regarding my Desire HD 2.35 GB HBoot 2.00.0029
I have managed to Boot unlock, Root and CWM
So far though I can't s-off
Can I still flash a custom rom or do I have to have s-off ?
Which roms can i flash now?
If not is there an s-off tut for 2.35GB
Thanks
Stu
If you want S-Off you need to do it manually. The automated tool for it, AAHK, has been retired. There's a thread around here with manual instructions, but it's not for noobs. You can flash a custom ROM from recovery if you leave your phone the way it is (as far as I'm understanding, S-On, bootloader unlocked, rooted), but you need to fastboot flash the ROM zip's boot.img each time you flash a new ROM.

[Q] Help requied with rooting

Hi all,
I recently got an old DHD running stock gingerbread. The phone is from T-mobile and network unlocked. I wanted to s-off and root in order to flash custom roms so I downgraded the firmware to froyo 1.24.405.1 WWE from here. After that I tried visionary tool and succeeded in temproot but it always hanged on permroot with a blank screen and battery pull is required to reboot. Now, I am stuck with froyo with no ota updates available. Anyone please guide me stepwise to root and s-off. I'll really appreciate it. Further details:
HBOOT 0.85.0004
RADIO 26.02.00.29_M4
BASEBAND 12.27.60.14bU_26.02.00.29_M4
what the details of your bootloader state..?
firstly you must removed temproot from visionany...and also removed visionary too from your phone..or to do all that...you can factory reset from bootloader..
after that...you can using AAHK2 script by phiber2000 to fully unlock and s-off your bootloader..just read the thread in here...
after you had successfully unlock and s-off by that script...you must flashing a stock rom that are already rooted and modified by phiber2000 from that thread too..(this is important to make your phone that will had the latest eng hboot and latest gb rom that are already rooted)
after that you can backup that stock rom and installing any custom rom you want from custom recovery..
hope this help...and good luck..

Need some info..

Im comming from a Nexus 4. At this moment i am using stock rom with s-on on my international htc one m8. Only thing i did is rooting it and flashed a custom recovery from philz. Now my question is, how can i update to the newest firmware. It is a bit complicated compared to the nexus 4, so i dont want to do anything wrong. Ive red about relocking the bootloader and some orher stuff, but dont get it. I would appreciate any help and info i can get.. i put a screenshot of my current setup..
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
When you say "firmware" do you just mean the Android software version? If so, just flash in recovery a stock rooted ROM, or custom ROM based on the newer software. No need to mess with relocking the bootloader to install an official OTA update or RUU. In my opinion, here is little to no good reason to install official updates on a modded/rooted phone.
Reason I ask the first question above, many of the folks here refer to "firmware" as the other modules deployed with the OS, including hboot, radio, and other media modules. Flashing this is still possible on a modded device, just a little different.

Thanks for the answer. by updating the firmware i mean the complete software, just like we get it OTA. The nexus was peace of cake, just install thr new rom and radios and you were done. But this htc thing needs some practicing i think.

That part is not much different with the M8. If you want a new ROM, just flash a stock rooted ROM or custom in recovery. If you want a new radio, just get it from the following thread and flash it. Only difference, if you need S-off. so look for either firewater or sunshine s-off method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736921
Yes, you can install the "complete" firmware package (search around and you will find them, usually flashed with fastboot/adb). But these are usually not necessary. If a ROM requires a newer firmware package, it will be discussed in that ROM thread.

So what i understand is, as long as you stay stock rooted, you can update with a stock rooted rom without having s-off. Am i right? What i dont understand is that they are talking about you cant update from 4.4.2 1.54 to 4.4.3 2.22 without relocking your bootloader..

You seem to be talking about 2 different things.
If you are talking about updating (flashing) a stock rooted ROM, that would be a user created ROM posted here in Development. If that is the case, you can flash whatever ROM you want from Development while S-on.
But if you are talking about installing official OTA updates, you need to relock your bootloader with s-on; and you also need to revert to stock recovery. You can flash these with the bootloader unlocked with S-off (stock recovery is still required). The other catch is, that if you change or remove any system files while rooted, an OTA will not install.
My opinion is not to install OTAs on a rooted phone. Its extra steps and extra hassle (relocking bootloader, re-installing stock recovery). Plus, you never know what exploits have been patched with the new OTAs. For instance, the more recent hboots plugged the firewater s-off. Its a much better idea to just flash stock rooted or custom ROMs posted in Development, as they often get updated very quickly to the new software versions anyway. And that is what XDA is all about, anyway.

No worries, that is what this forum is for!
One thing I was not fully aware of, while ARHD will flash just fine over your stock ROM; folks seem to be having trouble with Android 4.4.3 (software 2.22) based ROMs and old "firmware" (reference Post #2, paragraph 2 above). This includes issues with no sound (which I suspect the "media" module within the firmware package is the culprit).
So if you want to flash a 2.22 based ROM, it looks like you need to S-off and flash the firmware package before flashing ARHD. Details on flashing the firmware package can be found by reading the ARHD thread, or also (more easily) by referring to Section 3 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727/post53807690
Updating the "firmware" package is often not needed to just flash a custom ROM. This happens to be one of the exceptions.

S-off is usually not needed to flash a ROM itself. But yes, its a must if you want to flash radio, hboot, firmware packages, and some other things.

[Q] How to S-OFF M8

Hey everyone,
So I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, and rooted my phone. After that, I flashed Android Revolution HD (Lollipop version). I didn't S-OFF before flashing the ROM.
Now I realize I need to update my firmware and to do so I believe I need to S-OFF? (Correct me if I'm wrong)
I'm really stuck at this point as I don't really know if I did something wrong by flashing the ROM before S-OFF.
Can anyone give me some pointers?
Thanks
Edit:
I can boot into bootloader and TWRP but it's a struggle doing a regular boot.
[Android][Unlock/S-OFF] SunShine for modern Motorola & HTC devices
That's the only method to S-OFF $25 for it. You'll need to be stock or as close to stock as possible. Read that Maximus HD ROM works well with it, you can find that in the Android Development section, might have to grab an older version for Radio to work properly. Will need that to have the app collect the necessary files from their server.

Hmmm well is there any way to flash a different ROM? I know that you can mount storage devices in TWRP but I can't seem to mount the internal SD card to upload another zip file to flash....
Edit:
I realize I can sideload zip files to my phone so I'll try to figure out if there's a ROM that works with my firmware without having to S-OFF

One M8 SU Binary updates

Before I begin, I'm sorry for posting yet another thread like this, but I've looked all over and can't find a solution.
So today I unlocked my boot-loader and rooted my M8. I then added TWRP and flashed Android Revolution HD 32.3, which runs 5.01 lollipop.
When using SU I found I needed to update the binary, I tried pressing normal and it was not successful, even after several reboots. I also tried the TWRP/CWM method, it just froze the app and didn't even boot into recovery.
I'm not sure what to do. Root seems to be working, I only noticed this when trying to gain S-off with Sunshine.
Please help
Many Thanks
Root works....no need to update than i guess, or get the latest .zip and flash it in the custom recovery manually

Root does work, but I can't use sunshine without this update. I've tried to flash the latest zip, it worked but had no effect.
Keep in mind that not ALL devices are supported by sunshine yet !

While I don't doubt that's the case, I've tried the sunshine tests before I decided to buy it.
