hi, can somebody help me about upgrade htc radio fm? what software I need for do it? is possible to just override some files, or I need to re-flash the rom?.
how can I save radio sound to mp3 or any type of sound file?.
thanks,
[edit] Ooops! I misread your question. I thought you were meaning to upgrade the radio part of the ROM, so I wrote the long explanation below. Now I realise you meant the FM radio app. That has nothing to do, that wouldn't require a re-flash, only getting the right files for it and installing them. Sorry!
[edit]I'm leaving the other explanation below anyway, since I took the time to write it and some people can find it useful. But it DOESN'T apply to this thread.
It is a ROM flash: a ROM file (extension .nbf) which can be installed with the standard Rom Update Utility (RUU). ROM files may have one or more of the following parts:
- SPL (Secondary Program Loader): most limitations about which kind of ROMS you can boot are enforced by this part. For example, any country or language restrictions are likely to be found here.
- radio: this has the code for the phone radio chips (GSM, CDMA, Wifi, Bluetooth, etc). Upgrading these can sometimes improve reception or battery life. Or they may worsen
- boot screen: the screen you get before the Windows Mobile logo appears. Usual boot screens are the phone brand logo, but you can change it. For example, mine has contact information to return the phone if I lost it.
- The OS proper. You need to change this to upgrade the OS. This is the only part that will need a hard reset if changed. Most "cooked" ROMS change this part.
. extended OS or ExtROM: This has CABs to be automatically installed after a hard resets. Typically used by network operators to add their own customisations (operator logo, bundled apps, etc).
Vendor official ROMs usually have all of these parts. Unofficial "cooked" ROMS may include only some parts.
For example: When you do CID unlocking, you're flashing a ROM file which has ONLY the SPL part on it. After that, flashing any ROM file which has no such part, will keep you CID unlocked. However, if you flash a ROM with the SPL part, such as any official ROM, you'll be CID locked again. That's how it works.
For radio it's the same: if you flash a ROM which has only the radio part, you'll upgrade it and no other part of the OS will be changed. Of course, if you later install another ROM which includes an older radio version (for example an official ROM) you'll be actually downgrading it
I hope the explanation was clear enough.
want to upgrade radio version

Hi
Your expaination was great easy to understand. The only thing I'm not to sure on is how can you tell which parts you are getting in the download or is there radio only roms.
Thanx for your help Kiwi

all radio roms are there
I followed the instructions on upgrading my Universal to Wm6.1 (Ranju's v7.7) which included downgrading the Radio version to 0.00.00. Upgrade went fine for the most part but Bluetooth isn't working now and when I try to turn it on or discover another device I get a "bluetooth hardware error" message.
My radio version still shows up as 0.00.00 as there was no radio.bkf file in Ranju's update (I'm assuming) so should I install a new radio-only ROM and if so which version and where to find? I did a few searches on the forum but ended up going round in circles! Should this solve the BT problem?
Also can I just install the new radio ROM "on top" of the WM6.1 upgrade or will I need to do it all over again?
Just to let everyone know, after much reflashing and rebooting of both OS and Radio, I finally managed to get it to work by stopping the Extended ROM installation adding on all the O2 crapola after the initial ROM install. Might be useful info for anyone else having this issue in the future ...
i dont understand what its the O2 caprola, what did you do exactly because i have the same problem after i upgrade to WM6
Is it possible to get new generic HTC Rom on my UK Vodafone Touch Pro 2?
I know I cant go through the official routes but can I a) get the 1.19 rom from anywhere (as I cant get it from HTC due to Voda s/n) b) if I get the ROM is the Vodafone phone restricted from upgrading to the generic ROM?
Also, my phone often drops its signal down to 0 bars then takes 1-2 minutes to log back on. This is in full signal areas and my old Touch HD never did this in the area. Could this be a problem with the radio version? Is the radio version specific to the carrier? I have 3.44.25.27
Does the ROM upgrade also upgrade the radio version? Or is it possible to change the radio version separately?
Thanks
Hi guys,
I've just rooted the AMOLED HTC Desire (Branded, Simlocked, Orange FR) with the following version:
- HBOOT: 0.75
- Radio : 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
- Firmware version : 1.15
So i have few questions:
- Do i need to update radio to use with froyo ?
- Which radio should i use to remove simlock ?
- Is there any combination of radio + hboot would brick my Desire ?
- Any suggestion on cooked froyo i should use ?
Thank you very much
- no you dont need to upgrade your radio to use froyo, just to use the hd video recording
- you cant remove a simlock with a radio lol
- radio and hboot dont interact with eachother so i doubt it
- everyone seems to use leedroid these days, i like nextsence tho both roms are pretty awsome tho
@AndroHero: Thank you for you quick reply. But i seached forum, and found that each version of firmware does required a specific radio version. And my radio is quite obsolete. I doubt that froyo requires a higher radio version.
They also mentioned that if radio and hboot is not compatible with each other, my phone will be bricked.
And i'm afraid of upgrading to froyo will also upgrade radio and hboot which leads to loosing rooting capability.

i have used froyo with the stock radio i got with my desire, only problem was camcorder crashed, i have the same hboot version as you and used every radio under the sun with no problems, if you flash a custom rom, they will not come with a radio or hboot upgrade so dont worri about that
@AndroHero: I do see the newest version of LeeDroid do require new radio and they said i need a unlock code("Orange users may need an unlock code.")
I don't have a unlock code, but i still use an orange simcard. Is it ok ?

no orange users need to buy a sim unlock code to sim unlock your desire before you can flash a new radio, otherwise you will get network locked ( meaning you cant use the network, phone, internet ect ), after you have sim unlocked your desire you can continue to use your orange sim as usuall but you need to sim unlock your phone
@AndroHero: So said . Is there anyway so that i can update to froyo without upgrade radio ? I see most cooked roms need updated radio to work.
Anyway, if i want update radio, is there anyway to backup current radio and restore later ? Nandroid seems not to be eable to do that

there is a thread the top of the development section with all the radio's, just take a note of your radio and then download it again if nessessary like i said before as far as i know (and have tried) froyo will work with the old radio's just some of the functions will crash like camcorder, when the first htc froyo rom was leaked we had no new radio so everyone used it with the ones they had

The latest 2 radio's can be used on Orange without an unlock code.
Thank you guys, i will cross my fingers and do a radio update tonight
Old (4.x) radios are not supported with froyo. It may seem to work, but you will end up with problems, and devs will usually refuse to offer any support if you have an old radio.
Some custom roms will flash the radio as well.
I answered all this on MoDaCo this morning...
I've just updated radio to the newest, but the download speed seems never reach 0.5mbps, uplad is 1.6 mbps.I tried with iphone 4 (with the same sim card),it can reach 4mbps for download and 2mbps upload easily. Any idea ?

lol unlucky..
also i've herd people get past the radio problem by doing the update without the sim card in the phone. and then inserting it in.
they might be talking BS, but it might be fact. best thing to do is unlock the handset anyways

Have you checked your APN settings?
hi,i realized the problem is from the operator. There are 3 access point, and only one of them allows me connecting at max speed. "Orange Internet" is suck. Use "Orange World" instead.
Hi! I am in your same situation. I have a Orange branded Desire. Finally, did you update the radio without need SIM unlock?
Thanks
Yes, I CONFIRM that you can update it without simlock.

I have a brand new T mobile branded DHD. I've only rooted, S OFF, ENG S OFF and SimUnocked it. tell me how to do a stock radio and i can help
thanks for your replies, i was hoping not to use the OTA as i will have to downgrade again. If you know if the OTA will also replace my splash screen with the original then i may do it.
@Rangnarok - could you tell me what the software version and baseband version are in setting>about phone.,I dont think you can extract a radio from the phone. Im not sure how you would extract the splash also. I know there are tools to flash them, but im not back home until tomorrow so i will have a look and if i can find a safe easy way i will PM you... thanks
Ok, to make sure I have what you need, I confirm again that, the Phone is new. I only Rooted. S-OFF and ENG S-OFF. It has a T-mobile splash screen, CID is TMOB005 at the moment.
Android version: 2.2
Baseband: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Build number: 1.39.110.1 CL278886
I have made a back-up ROm, using ClockWorkMod, so I am not sure if this is what you are looking for?
I am researching to flashing a custom ROM on it. So hopefully I can help you before doing so
many thanks for the information, it was exactly what i was looking for, i have a backup of the stock rom that came with my phone, it just that it doesnt contain the radio, now i know the one it shipped with i can download it.
will get back to you on the splash screen, flashing a custom rom does not change this so have fun flashing.
I would reccomend trying the cyanogenMod 7 Rom, it has great customizable features, and once you get used to not having sense there will be no going back. The only thing i would look out for is i have noticed that GPS can be hit and miss with different roms, if you use it alot like i do then try using it before you spend too much time with one rom.
cheers
I have had a look inside the backup folder. It has
boot.img
system.img
etc
but nothing that indicates a radio back up. Is this already included in some file in the folder?
radio is not backed up. But there is a thread in dev that has a link to download different radio versions, i just wasnt sure which one came with a stock T-mobile phone.
There is a T-Mobile DE RUU available, you can download that, and get rom.zip from it. Then you can find splash1.img inside the rom.zip. I am pretty sure that T-Mobile DE's and UK's splashes are similar.
thanks for that jkoljo. I should have thought that i could get it from any t-mobile rom as long as the res is the same.
Been meaning to ask you, you quote "It will create a backup of your phone partition 7 (radio config) to the root of your sdcard, I recommend to keep that somewhere really safe!" from your radio tool thread. Does this mean the whole original radio is backed up and i can restore it from that?
Nope, it is not the radio, just radio configuration partition. The radio configuration has lots of important system values in it. Radio reads values from that config partition, and then acts accordingly. Radio is an important part of the system, and it does more than you could imagine
