you can not overclock just yet because there are no custom kernels firstly. only one and that is barely stable enough for you to be able to overclock..give it a few weeks. source just dropped yesterday or the day before and its kinda messed up anyway so devs are working on it as we speaking. stay stock for now and the phone is more than powerful as it is

Hi all,
I've got Leedroid and would like to know how the hell people get the 3000+ scores on quadrant ?
I've used most of the roms with a lot of the kernels but the most i get is around 2500 - 2600 , i've heard that the kernel by Kamma is a good one but i'm at a loss as to which one i should use.
So if anyone could point out which one i could use for .
1. Stability.
2. Battery saving.
3. Benchmarking (without smoking my device of course)
Any answers would be appreciated.

the first thing you need to understand is quadrant is ****, it is not an acurate indication of the speed of your device, a few devs have made kernels that trick quadrant into giving it massive scores, but in reality there kernels are not the best that being said, you wont find a better kernel for stability or speed than leedroids one, it is flawless you can download it here

Have you noticed much difference between 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 kernels? The LeeDroid thread is getting very lengthy to read through these days to catch up on new updates lol!

Tbh I use leedroids newest one an its really good, quadrant gets 2500 +
The device is smooth as silk, bit then again it always was.
I didn't know that quadrant was pants, I thought it was a good benchmarking tool.
Confirm that the newest kernel of Lee is the best!but in a few days he prepare a new awesome BFS kernel...

If you want good quadrant, buy the paid app which gives higher scores than the free one. Do the I/O hack which core and lee droids use. Use Leedroid kernel at max freq, performance governor, and finally run it in airplane mode.
Follow all those steps and you will get around the 3000 score.
You should state if you use quadrant standard or advance when posting results as they do differ. Otherwise it's like comparing oranges to mandarins. They are both orange but one is always bigger.

Yea it's just the standard version of quadrant, I thought that it would do the job.
Also i don't want to trick it or actually buy an app just so it can give me higher scores, that's not actually helping at all, i'll try the airplane mode to see if that helps, my phone is rapid anyway so it's only for my own satisfaction and to see how high i could get the score to go to.

First of all, I have been reading around and I did not find exactly what I want to know.
Yesterday I managed to root my desire and flash the CM7 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957344). Today I've added a custom kernel, "vork" 720p (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782875&highlight=vork).
My quadrant score is still low (around 1100), even though the phone behaves much better than the stock.
I have 2 questions:
1. What can I do to make it perform even better? (i have a friend with a desire hd who just flashed a sense rom, without any added stuff and scores over 2200).
2. should i install a new "radio"? My gsm signal is much stronger than before as it is.
3. Since this is my first time, what do you think of my choices with the ROM and Kernel? I chose them because they were popular and i assumed they are well tested and function well.

Desire HD has better processor and GPU I believe hence bigger difference. Your score is good for Desire. I got around that overclocked on LeeDroid GB ROM.

why do you even care bout the quadrant score ? :X
if you really feel excited bout high numbers having nothing to do with ur phone performance, go with data2ext roms, quadrant gives them 3000+ points, but still they perform worse than, for example, LeeDroid.
then again, new GingerBread Sense 2.1 roms have low quadrant scores, but they are really really fast.
I dont really care about quadrant, but it seems like a valid tool for measuring performance. At least it seems that everyone is judging by that. Quite frankly the phone works very well, i am just out of ideas to make it even better. And if the scores are meaningless why do people use it?
Its probably one of those my d...ck is bigger than yours things. Anyway I used data to SD and I also had high scores but overall experience was very laggy and jerky

Quadrant scores are mesaurable only when you launch them on stock, unrooted roms. then it can give you and idea on how this phone with this software will perform.
after rooting, some hacks or scripts make quadrant scores not real
So this means my phone is fine as it is? There is nothing more I can do to enhance it?
you can overclock it, it should all be said in your ROMs topic.
like "OC up to 1200Mhz" means you should be able to set processor speed to 1200mhz with SetCpu. it all depends on kernel i think

only faux kernel betas allow OC
big warning OC is bad for the HOX given the thermal envelope
you are risking both you battery and processor if you OC
i know you are used to OC from other devices but those had headroom, it is not the case this time, T3 is operating at its max thermal capabilities on the HOX

It's not stupid and I'm dying to overclock my HOX also. Unfortunately Faux's kernels won't let me overclock on my phone, I'm going to name my first kid for whoever is the first to let us overclock this beast .
As already said it gets already hot enough, overclocking will kill it.
And I used to love overclocking on my Xperia Arc, overclocked it 60%
But I think the HOX isn't made for it

the snapdragon 2 on the Arc had a lot of headroom
the chipset is rated @ 1.5ghz stable!
not the case with T3 its milking the very maximum of the 40nm process
in other words Nvidia is OCing its T3 out of box because their chips are designed to survive massive amount of heat (sadly it doesnt mean the battery or other components would survive)
it is already Overclocked lol
sometimes you have to listen to the "science" of it and surrender
feel sorry for the kid

I understand why people want to overclock. Why does someone tune a brand new sports car after all it is fast enough to reach the limit in no time.
What gets me is people posting "just leave it" "its fast enough". It's not your device and I'm sure they know its fast enough. Please those kinds of post really arnt needed.
As for the OC in faux's early (001bX) kernels overclocking was available although it was found there are 3 variants of the Tegra 3 SoC. And Asian variant, European and Australian variants. Each reacted differently to OC.

If you're wondering id love to have the capability of overclocking doesn't mean ill be overclocked 24/7
EDIT: @Kris underclocking is available on every kernel something like setcpu or sys tuner will be all you need. Although if your looking to keep heat down there's a thread on XDA about an app called corecontrol (not the one on play store) that can limit the Tegra 3 to 2 cores. Another thing too look at for reducing heat is undervolting. Sys tuner is also capable of this. Currently I believe faux's kernel is the only kernel with true UV control

I use Faux's kernels and even though I have the Asian one that supposedly can be overclocked to 1,700, mine maxes out at 1,500 just like all of the other ones. Still the Faux kernel upped my quadrant speed from 4,700 to 5,000 and seems quicker so I still use it daily. I'm still waiting for the first kernel that can be overclocked .
Only the early kernels had OC it was removed to avoid bootloops in the euro and aus tegra3's the 003bx kernels don't have oc ability

I have no experience overclocking a mobile device, so I have no knowledge about what is standard/good/bad/safe/unsafe. Basically I want to overclock my Gnex but I don't want to shorten its lifespan. What's a safe amount to overclock to that won't be bad in the long run for my Gnex? (Running Franco M4)

I've personally never found a reason to overclock this phone at all, and that's usually the best for lifetime preservation.
As far as I know recommended maximum speed of CPU is 1,5ghz, so theoretically it is safe to overclock it to this amount. But I don't know if the build of GN for example do not make the CPU heat more what can cause less life time in such speed.

I'm running francos latest kernel. I just picked the highest OC on the list (1344mhz). I think the non-stable goes higher.

About the "to overclock or not to overclock" discussion, i'm leaning towards not needed YET. The phone still packs a punch when it comes to gaming and such IMO.
OP says he is noob with these things aswell, so it might be wise to wait a little and get some android experience before jumping on the OC train.
That beeing said. Every cpu is different so one cpu can be clocked to 1500mhz while a different one will fail when beeing clocked to 1300. You just have to try different clock speeds and check if it is stable or not. The cpu have built in throtteling when temperature limits are reached.

Ok Im running stock 4.1.1 with the kt kernel so I can over clock. Can anyone tell me if I can trust any bench mark apps because everyone has me slower than stock? Antutu benchmark had me 8000, @ stock I was 11k?
Not really much help from benchmarking apps that can help you. Maybe the settings on the kernel aren't going well with your phone. I am Intergalatic Kernel C and with under clocking set at 1.02 GHz, I find the phone pretty snappy.

Anyone know any other good kernels to try while running stock 4.1.1?
Try the one I am using... Been very stable and awesome on battery too with over 5 hours easily on any day. Its kernel C in the intergalactic ROM thread.

My experience show with those apps if you run them over and over the score just keeps changeing they are nothing really to base your phone performance on i would say take the info it gives you with a grain of salt
