s3 overclocking help? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok Im running stock 4.1.1 with the kt kernel so I can over clock. Can anyone tell me if I can trust any bench mark apps because everyone has me slower than stock? Antutu benchmark had me 8000, @ stock I was 11k?

Not really much help from benchmarking apps that can help you. Maybe the settings on the kernel aren't going well with your phone. I am Intergalatic Kernel C and with under clocking set at 1.02 GHz, I find the phone pretty snappy.

Anyone know any other good kernels to try while running stock 4.1.1?

Try the one I am using... Been very stable and awesome on battery too with over 5 hours easily on any day. Its kernel C in the intergalactic ROM thread.

My experience show with those apps if you run them over and over the score just keeps changeing they are nothing really to base your phone performance on i would say take the info it gives you with a grain of salt

Question about setcpu and overclocking

I'm using kings kernel #5 and i currently have its over clocked to 720 (and of course profiles clocked under that) I was wondering would i have significantly shorter battery life if i clocked it up to the highest (1.119) and set it to conservative

You'll most likely freeze up and crash at the highest clock speed, that's what happens to most of us. But that really depends on your hardware... You MAY be able to sustain that, but there's really no guarantees.
What I do (and I have pretty good battery life, it's 9:36 pm here and I just now dipped under 20%) is let the kernel do it's own thing and only set up a screen off profile that maxes out at 460.
But yeah, higher clock = more battery drain.
I cannot get over 1.113, reboots constantly over that. I get amazing battery life and performance with what I am running below.
Sent from HTC Incredible, Redemption 2.0.4, King's BFS #5 kernel OC to 1.113, s-off, Launcher Pro Plus
Oh I can run it sustained i have my charging profile of 1.119 and interactive. Its 11:15 and my battery just dropped under 50% (i like bragging) But i figure it i put it to conservative it probably wont ever need to really run at max will it? Im not 100% sure on how everything works just yet
The word of the King
When King released #5, he was specific in saying that if using SetCPU w/ #5, only use it to overclock, as the composition of the kernel handles battery life.
That doesn't mean you can't, obviously, but I'm just conveying what I read when it was released.

just sayin'
Oh well thank you i had no idea. I actually messaged him on here about the kernels
I honestly dont even know what kernel i should be using... I dont even know the difference between bfs and cfs

King's notes and his d/l site go into uber-geek detail on the differences - take a look. Short version (to my understanding and probably way oversimplified) is they do different things - battery preservation or speed or a blend of the two.
That said, the kernel you should use depends on the ROM and what's important to you [speed/battery/both] - certain kernels won't/don't/shouldn't work w/ certain ROMs.Take a read thru the development section, and read thru the 2 threads for King's kernels. He's got 5? (or more) kernels out in the wild. Between those two threads, you'll see where one set is for AOSP ROMs only, the other for Sense and/or vanilla, whatever.
I've made the error of bootlooping myself by putting the inappropriate kernel into a Sense ROM - fortunately I did no permanent harm - actually it was good learning. Why? Now I look for, and use, kernels specific to the type of ROM I'm using.
They aren't one-size fits all - don't make the mistake I did - read up on what's there and you'll see what I mean.
Kind regards.
Yea I learned that not all roms work... I have virtuous 3.0.1 and want performance but mainly battery life can you suggest a kernel for me?

Lee - best suggestion I can offer is for you to read up on the kernels available and choose the one that works with the ROM you are running, that gives you what you want.
The reading/learning will do as much for you as a super-speedy or battery-sipping kernel.
Good luck.
I've been reading but just can't find any real information
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
The Kernels King post are defined by whether they can be used in Sense or Vanilla. His AOSP/CM are for Vanilla Roms only, and will more than likely cause bootloops if applied to a Sense Rom. The HAVS kernels are for Sense only. I change out between 2 and 5 and can't decide which is better. I also never run above 1.15 or I get constant reboots. 1.15 still reboots, but not as often.

Leedroid but what kernel

Hi all,
I've got Leedroid and would like to know how the hell people get the 3000+ scores on quadrant ?
I've used most of the roms with a lot of the kernels but the most i get is around 2500 - 2600 , i've heard that the kernel by Kamma is a good one but i'm at a loss as to which one i should use.
So if anyone could point out which one i could use for .
1. Stability.
2. Battery saving.
3. Benchmarking (without smoking my device of course)
Any answers would be appreciated.
Thanks.

the first thing you need to understand is quadrant is ****, it is not an acurate indication of the speed of your device, a few devs have made kernels that trick quadrant into giving it massive scores, but in reality there kernels are not the best that being said, you wont find a better kernel for stability or speed than leedroids one, it is flawless you can download it here

Have you noticed much difference between 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 kernels? The LeeDroid thread is getting very lengthy to read through these days to catch up on new updates lol!

Yeah the new one is based on the latest kernel source, with the 1.75 libs,

Tbh I use leedroids newest one an its really good, quadrant gets 2500 +
The device is smooth as silk, bit then again it always was.
I didn't know that quadrant was pants, I thought it was a good benchmarking tool.
Confirm that the newest kernel of Lee is the best!but in a few days he prepare a new awesome BFS kernel...
Mmm badly ****ed scheduler. My favourite.
If you want good quadrant, buy the paid app which gives higher scores than the free one. Do the I/O hack which core and lee droids use. Use Leedroid kernel at max freq, performance governor, and finally run it in airplane mode.
Follow all those steps and you will get around the 3000 score.
You should state if you use quadrant standard or advance when posting results as they do differ. Otherwise it's like comparing oranges to mandarins. They are both orange but one is always bigger.

Yea it's just the standard version of quadrant, I thought that it would do the job.
Also i don't want to trick it or actually buy an app just so it can give me higher scores, that's not actually helping at all, i'll try the airplane mode to see if that helps, my phone is rapid anyway so it's only for my own satisfaction and to see how high i could get the score to go to.

please help

I have three evo's two are box stock and one is rooted, and is running cyanogen mod 7 kernel and rom.
The problem is the linpak and quadrant score on the modified evo are actually lower than the stock evo. For example the stock evo is doing a linpak of 30 while my modified evo is only doing about 21. Likewise my quadrant score tends to be pretty low. I have to clock my modified evo to the max to pass the stock evo.
What gives why is my evo overclocked to 1.13 with custom kernel and rom slower? I set the profile to performance.
A while back while using the tiamat kernel I set my overclock to 1.2 and the phone just froze and shutdown did I damage the phone. This happened several times because it kept on rebooting. Today I set the clock 1.190 and the phone froze and shutdown again. Right now I am running the Cyanogen Kernel and no issues so far but why is my phone so slow. Both evos don't have much apps at all only one or two(excluding the stock sprint apps on the stock evo)
Thanks for your help
so what do u need to overclock ur phone for? does it dial faster? can u talk and hear phone calls faster? does it ring faster? I don't understand????
I forgot to mention that on quadrant my modified evo ranks below evo 2.2+ on that quadrant score chart. Is my phone defective?

I'm just curious and want to learn more. Why do you guys overclock?
I see people avg's with my my current setting are around 40. Im thinking defective phone.
Should I flash the stock rom back on and un-root and bring the phone back?
rebooted the phone and now the score is just getting crazy low 6.509 mflops
Overclocking an EVO doesn't really do all that much. It's only 200 MHz more.
Desperately need help the touch screen doesnt work and this was all the sudden
Overclocking can cause some instability, like the locked-up screen. Pull the battery and wipe cache and dalvik.
And benchmarks aren't worth anything, they can be easily tricked. Real-world usage matters. Personally, I underclock for more battery

Search the general section for supercharge script. Go to first thread and then go to original thread linked in there. Follow steps and dl update8. Run it as explained. Enjoy ur extremely faster phone. It changes memory management and stuff
Thanks for your helps guys.
Tropicalbrit your right. I really forgot the point of the phone is to see how well it works daily. In all reality I love my evo even though its not getting a high score. I was mainly just curious to see if I damaged my processor from overclocking and crashing.
I booted into recovery and used CW and booted back into a copy of sense I had. I did that linpak test again a was suprised to see how it scored 31. That's higher than CM7! So does this mean my processor is not damaged?
I will eventually go back to CM7 because I love all the effects and battery life was extended significantly. I should just probably stick with the stock kernel.
Thanks for all your help guys
I may try that supercharge script soon though if its safe.

You are running a governor which down clocks the processor. Quadrant does not tax the processor enough to hit your Max CPU speed. Set min and Max to 998 and test again. Try performance(for best results) or interactive/ondemand governers. You can change the settings in the CyanogenMod settings/ performance/ CPU settings menu.

Overclocking a phone doesnt do much other then cause over heating. If someone can give me a good reason to overclock I will gladly change my opinion.
Stock is set to optimal performance. IE HTC has performance tested the phone on this ROM and has proven no ill effects.
Custom ROMS are works in progress they have a lot of benefits and for some, are exactly what they are looking for.

[Q] [NewbieQuestion]Overclocking reboots phone on stock kernel/Gunslinger.

Thanks for checking out my question! ^^b Okay down to business; My e4gt is being a hassle with overclocking. When I want to improve performance for the hell of it just to see how well it does, my phone "resists" being overclocked by Tegrak and Antutu overclock, and reboots. I don't know how to get it to work since I'm still pretty new to all this but I have heard from PhantomHacker's Blazer v4.1 ROM page that Tegrak is acceptable with the stock EL29 kernel that comes with it, but it's not, it reboots when I try to set it high.
It might be something I'm doing wrong, if so please correct me, but if it isn't I'd appreciate the assistance! Thanks again for at least looking at my issue!
I almost forgot as well, I'm using Team Rogue's "Gunslinger" kernel currently but I've tried to overclock on both without success.

First thing, how high are you trying to go? 1.7? Some phones don't like overclocking, some go higher than others and some can do max. If your only going a step or two above 1.2 and get reboots that's uncommon. Now if you go high, try setting it lower. Like epix4g said use setcpu with gunslinger and see where it set. The highest mine will go is 1.4, any high it reboots.
Try raising the cpu voltage at those frequencies that have random reboots or laggy behavior. Otherwise, your cpu may not be able to clock that high. Not all cpus are equal.
Sent from my SPH-D710
No I was just doing 1.4-1.5, also when I try to over clock it it lags. How do I increase voltage? All I can find is antutu CPU. Set CPU is $2 in the market.

[Q] What is the best ROM for overclocking

I rooted my One X so that I could overclock it and see some impressive benchmark results but unfortunately the stock kernel is limited to a frequency of 1500. What is the best ROM if you want to overclock your device? Yes I know that benchmark results aren't indicative to how fast your phone is but I like to see them anyway

you can not overclock just yet because there are no custom kernels firstly. only one and that is barely stable enough for you to be able to overclock..give it a few weeks. source just dropped yesterday or the day before and its kinda messed up anyway so devs are working on it as we speaking. stay stock for now and the phone is more than powerful as it is
Thanks for the info, I'll be looking forward to seeing the new ROMs.
