Dropping phone

I need some advice. My wife dropped her HTC evo and its pretty dinged up. The bad part us the screen is really scratched up now. (I feel bad for her cause she loves her phone).I totally forgot to get her the insurance on it. She's had the phone for about 2 months. Am I screwed with sprint replacing the.phone for me cause she doesn't have the tep? Thanks for the help.

Im not to sure bro but i think that even without the insurance if you go into a sprint store they will fix wear and tear but you have to pay a 35$ fee or something.

Ebay for buying another Epic?

Long story short...my wife as a NS4g and has had intermittent data connection problems ever since buying it. Finally decided to start taking it in to Best Buy(has Black Tie ins). Currently on 3rd or 4th phone and they all have the same issue. She's ready to jump ship but I thought about finding a used Epic on Ebay or something similar that I know is solid. If I can find one for around 150$ refurbed is that a good route and how trustworthy is it? There's a long wait for the next upgrade and I don't think paying for something that isn't reliable is a good idea.
Thoughts?

Id look for one that has a good esn that'll cost you around 150$ or so. Hope you find what your looking for. If push comes to shove buy a bad esn and you'll have to flash it to cricket, although not all the bad esn's are very reliable. If anything stick to a good clean esn. =]

Thanks for the input. I definitely don't want to run into flashing it to another provider. I'm too stubborn to roll on Sprint yet.

Make sure the seller states a Good ESN and has a 7 day return policy.

ebay is always kinda sketchy for buying phones, but if you look at the seller's rating, and the return policy, you should be good to go.

You cannot use one with a bad esn on Sprint. You can use wifi services and music and stuff but nothing on the Sprint network. It could be flashed to some other carriers.

I got mine on ebay for about 130 or so, rock solid but a couple of scratches on the screen, a few months later though the front camera went out (probably my fault) and got the screen replaced for 30 bucks, so basically a new phone completely

You can try Swappa.com I seen some Epics listed there.

i would look local first b4 trying online, look for places the sell/buy used phones. check them 1st.

If Samsung won't be able to sell the Epic 4G Touch anymore.......

They would probably send you a Gnex or something of the same level of the E4GT.
That being said, What you are talking about is fraud and could get you in a heap of trouble.

A photon will be a huge downgrade. Probably a Gnex, I will check since will be going to tech center because of Phantom menu pop ups its getting annoying.

That wouldn't be the case. It would ban new sales. Asurions devices are "already sold."

They'll still be required to sell or replace with w.e stock of E4GT they have left. And I bet there are a bunch of E4GT refurbs in stock to get rid of before they can replace your phone with another phone.

Uhh..gnex was banned a while ago but the van was lifted until outcome of this trial. Wouldn't be getting one of those.

On my case my sisters is on my account and her phone took a accident (photon) ,i call for the replacement phone and they send the same phone but was bad the mic don't function and decide to call again for the replacement and the photon was placed on BO( back order) and the photon of the same equivalent was the Evo 3D .

By the time the appeals over, we will all have new phones I'm sure..

Uhhh...The injunction was lifted when Google pushed the necessary changes to universal search actually, which was the only reason there was one in the first place.... so the nexus is in the clear

I don't know what changes those would be because nothings changed on mine.

I came from a Photon. Went into Sprint threw my bricked Photon on the counter and said I wanted a phone I can develope without a nazi locked bootloader and the girl came back with E4GT. Best trade I coulda done Free too no assurance bs.

Ahh, but that's the beauty of Boost and other MVNOs - they can shift the ESNs to their pools and dump the stock VERY quickly if they wanted to. And with NV continuing to roll out to major cities - we're supposedly up in November - I wouldn't be surprised.
OTOH perhaps this will motivate my MVNO to get the S3. But have to wait until June anyhow for the renewal discount.

thats not true. the photon equivalent is the epic touch. i went through 2 photons and asked for a different phone. they gave me an epic touch.

It is impossible to say what they will send you. It seems to be either a lateral move (similar range phone) or an upgrade. I have gotten 2 replacements from asurion in the past 2 years. I had an EVO 4g. I dropped it and the screen broke, they replaced it with an EVO 3d. The EVO 3D recently broke in my pocket (I have no idea how, I must have crushed it leaning over something) and they sent me the E4GT. The 3D is a generation newer than the EVO 4g, so that is an upgrade, and the SGS2 E4GT is similar spec'd to the E3D, so that seems lateral. That said, if I could choose any the E4GT seems to be the best of the bunch. My upgrade is in October but I think I will keep this for now!

I would guess they would have to send you another phone with wimax to match the e4gt. Whatever has a matching price on their website.

Replacement phone T-Mobile? Refurbished?

My friend is on contract on T-Mobile he got the note 2 a month ago and he told ordered two replacement refurbished note 2's then he's done with T-Mobile he ain't sending it back or nothing just done paying it and keeping the phones. I told him he can get into trouble for that he can right?? Or does it just mess up his credit? He did it three years ago and nothing happened besides probably bad credit now.
I know a lot of people on Craigslist be getting new phones without battery and back piece and I once bought one and it wouldn't read my Sim card because he never paid it I'm guessing.

The phone will black listed, side note I exchange phones a bunch due to defects or little things Tmobile is becoming much more strict about what they will exchange abs are now charging $5-$20 to process exchanges I wouldn't be surprised if a bill is coming his way soon

They may bill for a full cost of a replacement phone. I used to work for a t-mobile dealer LONG time ago (9 years ago) and they did the same thing. If we had a customer walk in, we process an exchange on their behalf. But we tell them if they don't send original phone back, they will be getting a large bill. And few people did. T-Mobile does work with them, and will take the charges out if you return the phone.

The phones will be blacklisted. If he sells them the new owner is screwed. Maybe he is Ok with that. If he is, find another friend as this guy proved himself to be a slime ball.

You ever see "bad esn" in an ebay auction description for a cell phone...that is what your buddy's phones will have. They can pretty much can be used as a wifi mini tablet, unless he is able to flash the phone to another gsm carrier. Regardless goes against his credit also.

Not true T-Mobile uses sim cards you can do what ever except. For warranty. I know a bit about this subject but the problem with things like this is once people start talking in a public forum than can screw everybody.

Again, not true. The phone WILL be blacklisted and won't work in the country unless you take it overseas maybe. How do I know? I deal with craigslist people and ebay listings for a meager living.

Phones will be blacklisted with Tmobile, Simple mobile and AT&T he will also be billed $600 for not returning the defective phone. The phones they send him will be factory refurbished which means it's just the phone there will be no battery, battery cover, Spen or charger.

Its probably the same as all of the pathetic dead beat people who think its OK to steal and don't think they should have to pay bills like the rest of us.
He'll have bad credit (which won't matter to him because he's apparently OK with stealing things anyway) and he'll get away with it for the most part while the rest of us law abiding citizens will continue to pay more for goods and services and more to cover for selfish people like this!!

Asurion Insurance help?

So my mom epic 4g touch is watered damaged and I was told to call ausurion and I would have to pay a 100 deductible would I have to give them the s2? And if I do can I just report the phone stolen and if I do is it the same 100 deductible and I'm asking because my little brother can use it as a music player til it breaks completely. Idk if this is OK to ask here so mods sorry ahead of time. Any help with this would be appreciated.

My understanding is you pay your deductible after submitting an "affidavit" about what happened, and they ship you a replacement phone the next day, so it's not a one for one swap, so your little brother can use it as an expensive mp3 player. . Just curious, did you try putting the phone in a bag of rice for a few days before giving it up for good? Might save you 100 bucks. Just sayin' Good luck! :thumbup:

How do you mean it runs slow? Could it be there is a bunch of stuff taking up ram? If you have any experience flashing roms you might want to check out some of the awesome work in the dev section. Some really top notch stuff over there right now.

Yeah I put the official jb update and it ran a bit better may just be the phone slowly dying

And I may just file the report for repair seems like asurian doesn't want the damaged phone since it was water damaged and honestly it wouldn't sit with my conscious to do that

What? Asurion takes any phone back no matter what's the damage when they give you a new one. They even give you an envelope when reported lost or stolen just in case the phone ever gets back in your possession so you can return..

No problem. It's even noted on the site when filing a claim. I go through phones like crazy and I read everything. It goes something along the lines like any found devices claimed through Asurion are the property of Asurion and must be returned yada yada.. Something like that, it's been a while I lost or had a phone stolen lol
Ps: I had two claims this year. I would gladly screencap the email they sent me thanking me for returning my liquor damaged EVO LTE that was completely fried. So if they would take a liquor damaged one with a fried motherboard why not a water damaged one which still powers on?

A big part of me thinks Asurion is complete rip off. I used them once and paid the $100 deductible which pi$$ed me off because I had been paying them $9 a month over the past 4 years- enough to cover the cost of a new premium smartphone and the $100 deductible. And once I got my replacement phone (refurbished, not new) the first month or so were covered by the Sprint warranty yet, I still got charged me $9 for the "Asurion".
They want you to believe the replacement phone they are sending you cost them the same retail price you'd have bought it for from Samsung but that's bull****. I am sure they get them for buy them from sprint for whatever sprint pays for recycled phones., probably $50 then they mark it up 100% and viola $100 deductible. And if you tell Asurion you want a new phone instead of a refurbished phone they'll lie to you and tell you Samsung doesn't make the D710 anymore. But one visit to the Samsung website suggests otherwise.
In short I wouldn't think twice about getting over on Asurion.
And no it's NOT Insurance fraud. Insurance fraud is a crime when committed against a real insurance company which is regulated by the state.
Ask these people if they think you should stick it to Asurion.

Take the phone apart and hit the board lightly with rubbing alcohol and a soft tooth brush.
Before you do tho take a few pics of the board and post them and ill let ya know the extent of the damage

I just went ahead and reported the phone water damaged and I'm just going to pay the 100 deductible I did get a call from assurion saying they do limited these forums and advises against fraud and they do monitor these forums.
