Check it out - very nice! http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/05/08/new-app-partnerships-announced-at-ctia-wireless/
From ZD:
Exclusive to Nokia Lumia
We have the following software titles that are exclusive just to Nokia Lumia for a period of time:
PGA Tour app - 12 month exclusive, launching June 2012
ESPN Hub - exclusive until May 2013, available now
Groupon updated app - exclusive for 6 months from Summer 2012 launch
AOL Entertainment Hub - exclusive to Nokia Lumia for 6 months
Coming to all Windows Phones
These other titles were announced by Nokia, but are coming to all Windows Phone devices:
Angry Birds Space, some specific content exclusive to Nokia Lumia
EA titles, including FIFA, Madden NFL, NBA Jam, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, Mirror’s Edge, and Yahtzee
PayPal payment application
Time Magazine
Newsweek Daily Beast
Box for Windows Phone
So as you can see there are four titles exclusive to Nokia for a period of time, but all Windows Phone devices benefit from the major partnership that Nokia has developed with Microsoft and developers.
Right on!
Wow, they are really going all out eh? Good on Nokia for stepping up to the plate and pushing the WP7 platform!

Not a knock Nokia at all but they really need to have it succeed. They put all their smartphone eggs in one basket.
Im curious why on the phone marketplace (here in the US) I search for a weather app I see two for the weather channel. One is authored by them and the other says "Nokia"

I think it has to do with which phone is which - I used reinstaller and have a couple listings for the same app (3 listings in some cases). One 'wasn't available for my device' so it came w/ my Samsung Focus or the HTC HD7s, but I could install the Nokia version. Goofy... not sure if it's the same thing or not, but seemed worth mentioning (the marketplace lets you choose which phone to download to from thier web version, so it must track it internally somehow... *scratch head*).

Microsoft Planning Second WP7 Device Launch at MWC?
File under: News
By: Evan Blass | 9:38 AM 16-Dec-10 | 2 Comments
Microsoft and its OEM partners may be planning to launch a second round of Windows Phone 7 devices during February's Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. According to Taiwanese publication Digitimes, which often has its finger on the pulse of the Asian consumer electronics industry, Redmond is working with Chinese manufacturers like Lenovo, Huawei, and ZTE to enable a second-half launch with Mandarin-friendly input capabilities. Moreover, Asus may use the rumored launch to out its E600 handset, a smartphone which has been in the works for over six months, and just recently lost its short term FCC confidentiality -- revealing a gallery of photos plus a user manual.
While Redmond has yet to reveal initial sales figures for the nascent platform, anecdotal reports have been mixed: some source report little interest in the handsets, while other "venues" can't seem to keep them on the shelves. Digitimes notes that Android has been making serious inroads in China, providing yet another potential barrier to entry for WP7, in one of the world's most important markets.
Besides the HTC Trophy on Verizon and HTC 7 Pro on Sprint, US consumers are also expecting a device called the HTC 7 Melody to arrive next year, as well as a full Dell Venue Pro rollout, naturally. Current Windows Phone 7 owners can look forward to at least one, if not several, platform upgrades in the coming year as well.
"Never been a follower, so why would I buy an Iphone?"
i wouldn't say this is a second launch but merely a second wave of handsets. the OS is already out there and selling. but merely introducing more products to the market. i imagine that there will be a lot more than just a few more handsets.
Free Xbox 360 Game
with Windows Phone 7 Smartphones
Microsoft is giving customers another reason to choose a Windows Phone 7 SmartPhone from AT&T.
From 12/17/2010 through 12/31/2010, any customer that purchases a Windows 7 Device (Samsung Focus, the HTC Surround or the LG Quantum) can choose from four Xbox 360 games.
• Fable III
• Halo Reach
• Kinect Joy Ride (requires Xbox Kinect sensor)
• Kinect Kinectimals (requires Xbox Kinect sensor)
Customer Steps:
• To receive their free game, customers must visit wxwxw.myfreexbox360game.com[/url] to review redemption instructions:
o This offer is not redeemable in stores.
o The web site goes live at midnight on December 17, 2010.
• Customers must mail the redemption form, a copy of their purchase receipt, and a copy of their UPC within 45 days of purchase.
• Customers should receive their games within 6-8 weeks from the date their submission is received.
They are also giving out a free WP7 xbox live game, ilomilo.
that game is horribly addicting!!! I just wish they would announce these things though because I bought my surround and quantum on the 12th. I emailed microsoft though and hopefully I don't have to return them and buy again just to get my free games.
When is ilomilo coming to the general WP7 public again?
its under the AT&T apps, not the games section, its the top app under top free. Took me a minute to find it
Holy crap, is this for real? 1,000 free Internets to you kind sir for informing me of this deal. My family got two new Samsung Focuses last week so this is additional icing on an already full and delicious cake.
I received an email from them today directing me to THIS PAGE. Just in case the other one stops working for some reason.

Supposedly in Jan.
Also this deal is also offered with Tmobile.
Just watching TV Burp on itv1 in the UK and there were lots of 1 second adverts during the break, all showing different close up shots of a device which is sat on a series of lit up tiles... Don't have any clips... But the tiles reminded me of the Nokia WP7 poster id seen online somewhere. Is a launch from Nokia imminent? If it is Nokia and WP7 then the teasers are a brilliant way to create some excitement about the new phones =]
I just got a Titan, so no Nokia for me... But Nokia could finally be what WP7 needs to make some headway into the smartphone market.
Aye great way to get a bit of interest going!
Just seen them in the xfactor ad breaks, looks good.
Seen in X Factor breaks too. Not that I'm, ahem, watching the X, is the wife, honest. Excellent teasers though. Hopefully raise some interest...

Well according to this link there's probably an imminent announcement from Nokia as they've got their 'Nokia World' event coming very soon (see the countdown on the page - in 5 days time).
The handsets certainly look interesting.
So basically you bring your phone and have it run similar tasks to a Windows Phone. If your Phone is faster, then you win a laptop. If you lose you get to trade in you slower phone for a new Windows 7 Lumia Phone. I could see this go two ways...One some one gets a list of what MS plans to have the phones do and have a specialized ROM that can accomplish those tasks quickly. The phone would also likely be overclocked to the brink. I'm not saying Android Phones are weak, I love my G2x(rooted, OCed to 1.4Ghz) , but in some things my Quantum is quicker at. That's despite only being a single core running at 1Ghz.
The other side, is to bring a "ringer" phone (geddit?) like an old HTC Hero or an LG Optimus V...have it lose and walk out with a nice Windows Phone.
I like Windows Phone 7, the interface is clean and quick, like a nicer version of iOS. But the AppStore is an abomination. I constantly Cross shop Apps across my iPhone4, G2x and Quantum and sometimes could justify getting the same app across them because of sales or it's available for free on one platform or the other. But when I turn to the Live Marketplace, it's like walking through a mall that only has 1/3 of it's spaces leased out and the places that ARE there are selling stuff at twice the price you can get from another mall across town. Angry Birds for example is available for Free or $1.00 on iOS or Android, on WP7 it's $3. I'm going to tell you...the WP7 version is not 3x better than the iOS or Android version. In fact the Android Version will scale up for tablet screens and look good doing it. The iOS(phone) version can be stretched, but it looks less sharp. I digress....It's a a neat idea for a promotion, but I wish WP7 had a more customer friendly prices.

smoked by wp7 has been going, on for some time and has been very well received so far. They're just now bringing it to Microsoft stores which is cool considering wp7 has lost less than 5 percent of their contests so far. Its a good campaign, it shows that Microsoft knows where their strengths lie.

I 'll never get a windoze phone or laptop even if they pay me, that's for sure.

The 5 challenges are clearly listed in the rules, per official link below.
http://content.microsoftstore.com/store/smokedbywindowsphone/rules
You have 4 days left to make it to a MS store. The ONLY phones it states are NOT included happen to not be " phones " but the Nokia 800 bundles" I would ask for a Lumia 900 for sure...
Edit: Only 10 prizes per Microsoft store. So ~180 prizes total nationwide. That's ~$180,000 for a pretty impressive commercial.

Nokia Lumia 900 is not available in the US and the Lumia 800 is only available in the bundle.
I did this today. Ended up trading a Palm Treo for a HTC Titan.

Too bad they're relying on social networking for the contest tasks. Not everyone cares about facebook or tweeting.
I'm sure they're going to give away quite a few.

I'm browsing mobile, and this is the only mention of typical challenges listed:
" Microsoft typically in the challenges, as they play to the phone's strong points of unified social and media hubs as well as specific features like live tiles and Local Scout point-of-interest finding. The company does occasionally lose, however, and Electronista saw a scoreboard at Mobile World Congress where Android and iPhone users had occasionally tied or beaten Windows Phone."
Please post a direct link if you have a better description of the typical challenge.
Microsoft have already been caught cheating:

Sounds like this store don't have any laptops to give away, and were assuming they'd win all challenges..?

I went to a Behind the Tiles event last night in Minneapolis. About 20 people showed up, and there were 10-15 MS employees on hand. Needless to say there was pleanty of oportunity to talk to MS employees one on one and ask very specific questions. The people who presented / made themselves readily available were very knowledgable.
Most attendees were WP7 users already: Just about 1/2 were developers, the other 1/2 were in IT/IS in one capacity or another or at least a technology enthusiast. It was not a developer-oriented event (JIC you didn't know...)
If you're new to windows phone then this is a very good event to see the features demonstrated. Even after 1.5 years of being on the OS I still learned quite a bit about application features (pinning is more detailed than I've been using, integration with areas of the OS where the appropriate apps are located), and a very good demonstration of Bing, which has a TON more features than I've been using.
Everyone had a Nokia 900 provided to play with (focus on Me tile, setting up, etc.), and for Bing we were able to execute translations, scan pictures with the camera for text which we then sent in an e-mail, playing music on the phone and having Bing display the artist and where to buy the albumn / song, and focused a lot on voice commands and how to simply talk to your phone w/out pushing any buttons. It was pretty cool, actually. One thing that stuck out in my mind was that the malls in Bing Maps have detailed floor maps (complete with store names) that I didn't know existed, which was nice to see. They also showed how to filter results from Bing search easily.
In addition, they demoed some future tech (XBox, Kinect, and WP working together), talked about Win8 and WP8 a little (very little, but at least it was direct) and focused one of the sections on business use (also very enlightening).
At the end they gave away an NL 900, 2 StarWars XBox units, and 4,000 gamer points. Given the people there, it was a 1/5 chance to win one of those (of course, I didn't win anything =) ). Not sure if those are given out at each event, so YMMV - that's what they had to offer last night. Oh, and light swag (notebook, I <3 Win Phone stickers, etc.).
Lastly, BestBuy offered $50 off the $99 Lumia 900 if you were eligible, so It's a good way to save a buck or two if that's of interest.
If you were on the fence I recommend signing up - it was worth my time for sure!

They are having these events at best buys throughout may but in order to go you have to RSVP with a registration code. Did you have that? I don't know how I would get one.

Went to one on 14May in San Diego. They changed the venue from Best Buy to the Microsoft store. A lot of interesting features were brought up & WOOHOO.... I won one of the Lumias. They gave away teeshirts, 2 lumia 900s, 2 Star Wars XBox Kinects and 2 4000 pt. XBox cards
So the event I went to was ok. I learned one or two things. They had three different stations set up and we walked in a circle hitting each. There are no seats so we were standing for the duration of the 2.5 hour event which was a bit uncomfortable seeing that I had just worked the whole day. They I didn't win any prizes though.
Seems like they gave way more stuff away at the event held at the Microsoft store. I got a bag with a sticker, pen, notebook and a poster.
