[Q] No odin for me.... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey all,
I am running cm9 alpha 2. I have installed kies on my pc and drivers install (according to kies) fine. I throw the phone on my pc through usb and try to open Odin, and it doesn't pick up the device is connected. Android Commander DOES connect though.
I have tried this with usb debug on and off just on a hunch it may make a difference but no dice. Phone atp does NOT have CWM as this was the point of me trying to Odin. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

What are you needing cwm for? Use Mobile Odin.
Here is stock el29cwm: http://db.tt/0QJkleJR

So Odin won't recognize your phone when you are in Download mode or just when you try to mount the drives? Odin is used primarily in Download mode.
Also try opening Odin, THEN connecting your phone after it is open.

I suspect this. hold power + vol DOWN until you get to download mode. Then plug in phone. If that doesn't work, try different cables and ports. You can also try reinstalling drivers and rebooting pc

Phone not connecting in download mode?

I'm able to get into download mode but the computer doesn't recognize it at all.. I've tried all ports and 3 different USB cords. I have no recovery so download mode is my only option. When I attempt to boot into recovery, I get a "[Phone]...!...[Computer]" logo.
I don't think it's bricked because I'm able to get into download mode, it's just not recognized. I've tried a different computer.

[Q] Need help with friends bricked phone

My friend recently bricked her phone by installing the wrong kernel. Is there anyway I might be able to help her fix this? I put the phone into download mode and tried to connect to odin but it doesnt seem to find the phone. Are there any other ways to fix this? Any info would be highly appreciated.
DL the drivers reboot and try again. Try a different cable. If you can into DL mode its gonna be ok
I agree try downloading the drivers and flash a stock kernel. DL mode usually means no brick.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274337 Go here for the drivers needed for odin to work.

Uninstall and reinstall kies. You can flash the stock Tom via Odin and then re root

Does your friends sbl show the phone to be an I9100?
Shoot me a pm if you have any questions. Long story short is an I9100 sbl disables the SPH-D710 USB controller.

[Q] ODIN back to stock now.. nothing

I was following the forum below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321811
to get my rooted stock Tmobile Galaxy S2 back to un-rooted stock so i could update to the OTA update as i need the wifi.
Upon following the first ODIN command i got a failed and so i unpluged the phone and tried to re-ODIN and all it would do is stay at connecing or something similar.
I pulled the battery and tried to enter download mode again and I am unable to turn the phone on or enter download mode.
Ideas?
when i change the usb cable to a different plug on PC the PC then will attempt to install driver but the phone never show the download screen and the PC says unalbe to install driver.

I had installed the drivers already with Kies

Recovery issue..I think?

I had the regular cwm recovery, flashed the touch version, been working fine. But tonight when doing a nand backup it failed at the cache backup. I couldn't get back into recovery mode, the closest I got was download mode(not Odin) I was having problems rebooting my phone, it started going into car mode. I downloaded cwm again from the market and was finally able to get back into recovery. Tried flashing a Rom, rebooted and the screen lit up black and that's it. Took me many tried to get into the recovery again, finally did a nand restore, and it was all flickering car mode rapidly. I can't get back into the recovery still, only download mode.

That doesn't sound good. Have you tried ODINing to TWRP or the non touch recovery?

totally confused. Download is Odin... you get into this when you're connected to the PC and do the volume buttons + power.
to get into recovery make sure you're not connected to a PC.
When it goes into this mode it says download mode. Odin mode said Odin mode..

download mode is odin mode you cant do odin unless you are in download mode. i am confused? what do you mean odin says odin download says download. i think i know what you mean but just asking if you know odin is download mode not to say you are a noob.
Before when I would use Odin, my phone would say Odin. Yesterday it would only say download, after flashing twrp touch it seems fine.

I had this issues once before, turned out to be the kernel causing the issue. Did you change your kernel since the last time you backed it up?
Nah I haven't messed with any kernel on this phone just Roms. I think cwm got all frigged up and something happened.

Trying to root my tablet but every time I connect it to laptop while in download mode it doesn't seem to be recognized. Booted to android Odin picks it up fine. Tried 2different cables as well. Am I missing something?

Make sure USB Debug is enabled.
Use saferoot.zip. Much better way to root, and does not require flashing.
Thanks. Yea, debugging is enabled. Is there a link for saferoot?
Found Saferoot and it worked fine for this. Thanks.
