Make sure USB Debug is enabled.
Use saferoot.zip. Much better way to root, and does not require flashing.

Thanks. Yea, debugging is enabled. Is there a link for saferoot?
Found Saferoot and it worked fine for this. Thanks.

Any other way to root without computer??

So Ive pretty much given up on trying to connect my phone to my laptop. Any way to root this phone with an app or something?? Like gingerbreak or z4root??
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Nope, you need to flash cwm recovery through Odin then flash superuser.zip to root. Maybe rom manager has the cwm. Then reboot into recovery then flash the zip but I'm not sure. I don't use rom Manager

Isn't there SuperOneClick? I've never used it, so I'm not sure if it's an application used on the PC or on the phone.

Was your problem narrowed down to your phone or the pc? I had a similar problem, but it was driver issues. After downloading Kies, it works fine.
I'm just sayin!

I thought it was the other way around, but anyways. Odin really is the easiest way to root the phone, hardly takes any time either.

.....Clones & Drones.....
Actually there is a way.
Here is how I did it.
Download Rom Manager FREE and Premium.
Flash clockworkmod recovery for GSII Tmobile
Download Superuser from "Download Rom" section and scrolling down to where it says "Superuser"
Install the latest Superuser, and you're done!
It's that easy.
And then to get busybox, you can search the market for busybox installer and install the latest version of it.

oh wow you still didn't get it to work? yeah narrow it down to either the pc or the phone.
his previous phone states that his old t989 connected completely fine to the laptop but after doing an exchange the new one is not detected. He has tried reinstalling and uninstalling the drivers, kies, and removing whatever is installed through usb with usbdeview.
so yeah, i'm stumped also. any of the mentioned method worked for me... soo good luck once again op! lol

[SOLVED!!] Accidentally flashed GT-i9100 bootloader...

Like an IDIOT I accidentally Odin'd the international (GT-i9100) bootloader over the stock/rooted FH13. The phone works but in download mode Odin does not recognize. I've tried everything I could read others have tried (drivers, etc) but no joy. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I out of the Odin business permanently?
Thanks.
I remember hearing of someone else doing this before as well and I think I remember the only thing they could do was send it off to have the flash reprogrammed via jtag. My suggestion is find a rom you like. Flash it and stay put. Can't risk a soft brick.

If I recall correctly times_infinity posted how to flash the bootloader using adb / terminal, but don't quote me on that.

Doesn't the international boot loader make the USB port on our phone not work anymore? Which is why when you go to Odin mode, a computer won't recognize it? That's what I remember

Even if usb wasn't working you should be able to copy the bootloader into the phone and run a terminal emulator to run the command from the phone. But there is a how to specifically for this issue somewhere.

I'd love to but have no idea how to. Remember I'm the idiot that installed the wrong bootloader! I was even able to restore my nandroid but that didn't change the bootloader version.

Ok try this. If your computer can see the phone booted up there its no reason why download shouldn't see it. Uninstall your drivers. Download the drivers from Samsung again. Install them. Put your phone in download mode. Connect to pc. Let drivers get loaded completely. Unplug phone from pc. Plug phone back to pc. Open Odin. See if it gives you a com port. Report back the result.

Thanks. I've tried this but when I'm in download mode my phone is not recognized at all (by neither the computer nor Odin).
I was mistake this was about the kernel, not the boot loader. Regardless here's the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29843206&postcount=23
Then you might be out of luck. I am not sure you can fix it without Odin. Here is a bootloader if you get Odin working. If you didn't try all of the steps I posted please do it again. Also switch cables even though it works for other functions.

Thanks. Yes, I found that. I've been reading about this all day and I think I can safely say that I am not going to be able to undo this without sending my phone for the Jtag. Luckily My phone still operates normally, I just won't be able to flash anything by Odin and when my phone boots it says it's a GT-i9100. I did find a good thread about this for anyone else in the same boat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816931&highlight=wrong+bootloader
In the end, this is what I get for getting careless. Totally my fault.
Wouldn't flashing the whole thing with Mobile ODIN work?
I mean a whole .tar ROM

Problem with odin while rooting

Hi I'm try to root my galaxy note 2 using odin and its not working.
Here's what I specifically did:
1. Put th phone in download mode
2. Connect the phone to my laptop using usb
3. Install the device drivers
4. Run odin.exe
Now, when I run odin I get an alert msg with some boxes and an ok button.
I say ok, the odin window opens for a moment and immediately closes. No errors, no messages.
Am I missing something here?
Why isn't it working?
Thanks in advance guys.

im ok with odin 1.85, if u already using 1.85, try download it again from different source, if not, try download that
and better give us the error message so we know what happened
V1.85 is what I'm using. And as I said there r no errors. The window just closes by itself.
Don't really think it's a problem with the source. But I'll check that out too.

kies is a pain ain the arse, uninstall kies..install only drivers, restart pc
use the v3.06 odin , run as administrator,
no need for usb debugging enabled
try different usb ports
close antivirus and firewall
try another pc
if still problem, try mskip tool kit
Just downed a different copy of odin 3.04 and everything worked as expected.
My phone is now rooted
In hindsight is seems like v1.85 that I had isn't compatible with the windows certain I have. It's crazy bcos I remember I had used the same to root my galaxy S.
Anyway. Thanks for the help guys

Help using LGNPST

I realize this is a double thread, but im having some issues using LGNPST.
I installed the drivers, and put my phone into download mode. I assume the drivers were included, since its an all in one program.
I try to run the program and it says the phones not connected.
I tried to replug the phone a couple of times. And i managed to get a nice IRQ_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS_TO BSoD.
So is LGNPST compatible with Windows 8?
Am i missing anything?

What happens when you connect your phone to the computer? Is it recognized at all by the computer but doesn't fully install or it is not recognized at all? If it is recognized but does not work, you may try installing the drivers on your PC. Installing Samsung Kies would be one way of doing this as Kies has all the drivers you need. Also check the USB cable you are using to be sure it's of good quality. I'd be hard pressed to understand how rooting or unrooting alone could affect recognition by your computer. To return your phone to stock-no-root, however, you'd need to download and flash the stock ROM, bootloader, modem and kernel zips via custom recovery (e.g. TWRP, CWM). You may search the threads for specific instructions on how to do this with the Canadian models.
It isn't recognized at all. I've tried multiple chords and different sub ports. It's unrooted right now, I want to root it.

Also check your phone's settings under Development mode to be sure USB debugging is enabled. If your aim is to root, you could, in principle, use another device like another phone, camera or micro SD adaptor, to copy the rooting files (Super SU zip) to an SD card and bring this to your phone. However, unless you already have custom recovery installed, you'll need to flash this via Odin which requires a computer. I
I had usb debugging on. This is really starting to seem hopeless.
