I heard about "Unlock with Wifi" but i didn't work on my Arc S for "unknow reason"
So is there a way to do that ?

Hi people I have a small problem trying to tether my Desire HD.
I have rooted the handset and installed custom roms successfully. However,
When trying to USB tether I can connect it to my laptop (running XP) via USB tendering option on the phone. However I cannot connect to the internet on my laptop. Can anyone help ?? I have tried downloading USB tether tools or apps but no luck.
I have noticed that even though I have chosen USB tether if I go
Settings - wireless networks. And scroll down to the bottom,
The USB tether option is not ticked, trying to tick the box just brings up "unable to turn on"
I'm stumped as my friends Desire easily tethers on my laptop.
I am on Orange and have an " unlimited" data plan.
Thanks in advance people
Hmm that's weird.... try to unplug your dhd from your pc and activate usb tethering in the settings. Normally it should turn on even without being connected to a pc.
If there's still an error, it's probably an issue with your rom

When I bought my DHD , I had the same problem , because I used to press either "Internet pass through" or "USB tethering" without waiting the phone to establish a stable connection to the PC .Later I realized that if I firstly turn on "Charge only" , because in this way the phone is able to establish a stable connection , and later I turn on "Internet pass through" or "Usb tethering" , the internet connection get established succesfully. So I suggest you to follow these instructions , I hope they could fix your issue :
-Press "Charge Only" when you have connected your phone to the PC . Wait a few seconds ( 10-15 ) , later you could press "usb tethering " .
-If this haven't helped you , you could try this
-Go to Control Panel - > Network Connections - > Press " Local Area Connection " icon ( which ressembles Monitors ) - > Press " Properties " - > Scroll down the column , which has appeared , till you found the row , in which is written " Internet Protocal TCP/IP" , and press it - > In both "general" and "alternate connection" press the circle , where is written " Obtain an IP adress , automatically " .
- After you have done this , try to establish USB tethering connection .
I hope this may fix your problem : ))
I've actually an even more strange behavouir....it looks connected (at least I've the icon in my tray area), but it is not working...
I've also tried to pass before from the charge only and then tick the USB tethering option, I've re-install the HTC sync and the sdk suite, I've done a factory reset....but nothing!!!
Any idea???

Does normal wifi tethering work?? Also are you on a custom rom or stock rom?
I had some problems with my Tethering, and although i allowed the connection to happen through my firewall, it still didnt work, so i fully disabled my firewall, then it worked.
It sometimes does do some weird things. but thats all explained @Feltwo''s Post above
Stock rom with the last update (2.3.3)...the wifi tethering doesn't work either...
Try a program I found/use it's called PdaNet. Check out the web site to see if it will work for you.
You're a genius!!
It works!!!
Thanks a lot, mate!
Any one know how to use adb over bluetooth in this device ??

I already tried this but didn't work
pand gave some error "Failed to open control socket: Address family not supported.........."
then I thought this error may be due to lack of bluetooth module.so I compiled "bluetooth.ko" and loaded.
then the error disappeared but the thing didn't worked..
I think my bluetooth device is not detected by the module because '/sys/class/bluetooth' directory was empty
So still now i am seeking for a solution....

Well it actually is not impossible. I already had it working.
But your phone shouldn't have any issues with BLUETOOTH PAN profile. If having any issues maybe don't expect this to work. And it need not have mobile internet for both phone or PC. Its just phone-to-pc direct connection, no need for internet access point. Lets think there is no mobile internet enabled for the below HOW-to.
Ok here u go. Pair your phone and PC. Initiate BT PAN connection from PC to phone (right click on bluetooth device and select connect-via-access-point). This creates a local connection. Now u need to know local IP address on phone side. Install terminal emulator application and issue the command "netcfg" which lists all connections active. Note the IP address of the connection bnep0 (say ww.xx.yy.zz)
Now open your PC Command prompt and type the command
adb connect ww.xx.yy.zz:5555
it says connected. Enjoy.
Same goes for wireless connection through LOCAL WIFI (WLAN) without internet access point.
Lets think mobile internet is off.
Turn on the portable Wifi Hotspot on the android device and make ur PC to connect to that hotspot. Note down the local ip address of the connection. Then open pc command prompt and type same command as above
adb connect ww.xx.yy.zz:5555
connected . enjoy.
IMPORTANT: First of all u need to enable ADB OVER NETWORK option in phone. This option is present in latest roms like cm7.2 or cm9 or ics roms. If this option is not available u need to find terminal alternatives for this.
Noob here.
Is there any detail guide to do this ???
I've searched several threads, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Both devices definitely 100% rooted with superuser working fine, permissions granted for all apps.
I installed wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk on the phone.
Device Profile: Evo 4G
Setup-Method: Initially I tried Softap (master). That's the same as infrastructure mode, correct?
Default SSID (AndroidTether)
MSS Clamping checked
Routing Fix checked
If I attempt to run it with these settings, I get a popup informing me the wifi hotspot started, but with errors. The log just says most of the wifi steps failed, I can post details if needed. I don't think it's really running - no upload/download indicator showing at the bottom of the app. My PC can't see the hotspot.
If I switch Setup-Method to Ad-hoc, it runs fine, no errors, PC can see it and connect to it. But KF can't connect to Ad-hoc... so lame.
So, I got ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk for the kindle fire, to switch it to ad-hoc mode. Went to settings, told it to connect to AndroidTether. Switched to Ad-Hoc mode. It says "attempting to connect" ... after a minute it gives up and keeps retrying. The hotspot shows in the list of wifi networks, but it's hanging at "Obtaining IP address".
So, what's the issue? Infrastructure mode not working? Need to flash a custom rom? I read something about maybe needing a non-stock kernel? Upgrade or downgrade my radio?
I finally found a method that works, barely.
Wifi Tether (app listed above) failed.
Adhoc Switcher failed.
Wifi Hotspot Widget failed.
Elixir2's hotspot widget failed (connected but no surf).
The one that worked is free and doesn't even need root apparently: Foxfi.
I say it "barely" worked because even this has issues.
When I tried to create a password, it wouldn't connect.
But if I leave the password blank (no password) it does work.
http://foxfi.com/bin/
I just told it to start running, and left the SSID at the default (FoxFi98 I believe).
I have been able to successfully sync my phone with my computer through the "Kies via wifi" option.
However, now some sort of "kies via wifi" app keeps opening on my phone and running in the background. Application manager shows the "AutoConnService" running, and the two processes are:
Kies via wifi: com.sec.android.app.kieswifi
AllShare Service: com.sec.android.allshare.framework.
Anyone know how I can stop it from running all the time?
Thanks!
Fixed, I think
Update: in the 'Kies Via Wifi" settings on the phone there is an 'auto-connect' option which I did not see earlier (Settings->More Settings->Kies via Wi-fi, then press menu button->settings). Turning the option off seems to fix this issue.
Wifi Direct file sharing is NOT possible on the V500?.
After the both android devices wi-fi direct is enabled, configured and connected each other, a file transfer is supposed to be done share/ via wi-fi.
In the V500, when I select a file and wanted to share, it does not appear "via Wifi" option under share despite several tries with several file managers / explorers....
And if I send a file through another device to the V5000 via "wifi direct" after some seconds the transfer gives me an error "File sharing not enabled".
Why ? Can anyone manage?

I am not sure if this is helpful to your specific question, but I was able to transfer files TO my G Pad from my G2 using Superbeam, and got wi-fi direct speeds (50ish Mbps). I have not yet tried to transfer files from the G Pad to another device by wi-fi direct, but it did work for me not using Bluetooth or NFC or over an established wifi network via router. I would try Superbeam which seems to have consistent success in transferring files, much better than most file explorers.
Cheers.
I've tried Superbeam, and the only option it shows is "via bluetooth", not wi-fi.
