Gsm/Cdma Roms - HTC Wildfire S

Are all the roms cross compatible as in some of the descriptions they don't mention either one only a small minority of the roms have either cdma or gsm in the title

Cdma and gsm roms are diffrent, if you flash a gsm Rom on cdma it might boot but data, mms and phone won't work, or it may not even boot at all. Most roms here are for gsm devices, I don't no a gsm Rom that works on the cdma and vice versa

Yes im aware that they are different its just most other models on here have separate development threads for cdma and gsm
Seems stupid not to do the same here
I only asked as i seen some roms were labelled cdma but others were not labelled at all so it was kinda guess work which was gsm
Thanks for reply

Yes they should of made seperate forums, but the wildfire s was suppose to be only gsm I read, then pre paid companys picked it up. Ya most is guess work, if the Rom dosent boot then we no its the wrong one

In any way the SGH-T989 Series radio is better than stock ?
Or is it the actual stock radio
Awesome! Thank you so much for this Mr.X.
Tmo VK1 is the latest one to enable wifi calling right?
Very nice thank you, this should really be in the Dev section.... To important to be in General imo.
Also might i suggest MD5 check sums in the OP.

I'm not sure fi wifi calling requires the tmobile modem, so it's really up to you guys to test and report in. What i can tell you is these modems will not damage your device.
they all work for me on telus (with exception of the DoMoCo one, since have no networks it supports here) However using the tmobile and rogers radio cut my HSPA+ speeds down to HSPA as the radios appear not to support dual channeling of HSPA on 850/1900 like telus needs.
for some reason it wont install on CM7 i have tried CWM and ROMmanager, no go on either, its the Tmobile vk1 radio

Diffrent radios might increase reception in some areas, increase download speeds and might improve battery life or they can do the opposite and be detrimental to recepition, download speeds and battery.... Users results may vary. Flash and test for your self.

How sure are we that flashing modems through cwm is 100% safe? I know on a lot of other phones that while it is possible, its said that it is not safe. Correct me if I'm wrong but I just wanna be sure.

on the vibrant all the modems where came flashable and I've done dozens of time with all the modems they had and never had a problem. I was actually wondering why on this phone it wasn't being done. I would say from my experience it is safe

OK. I trust Mr. X but just wanted to hear from other people that have done it. I've personally never flashed a radio through cwm. I usually run what I have or fastboot it if that's an option.

Generally fastboot is the safest method because of the bit check before flashing but I run the G2/ HTC Vision radio thread and as long as the MD5 matches it pretty safe, out of over 10000 downloads of my G2 flashable radio zips I think ive only seen 1 brick but even that one couldnt 100 percent be connected to the flashable zip so in general I thinks its very safe.

if i try it and it doesnt work out for me, how can i remove the radio file that i flashed?

U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy S2

I was just wondering if I am able to root and install a custom rom from this forum. I was told on the SGS2 forum that this forum would be best. Is it true?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my SCH-R760 using XDA
Short answer - probably not easily if at all.
Even if there are not any technical differences between the devices - which I do not know enough on the US Cellular GS2 to say - it is often difficult to do what you want. I saw this with my previous device, the LG Optimus S (Globally Optimus One).
Now in some cases I have seen devs be able to take a build for one phone and easily port it over to a similar phone (ex. Optimus S/V/C) versus having to start from scratch. It will depend on how much HW/SW differences exist between the two devices.
Hope that helps!

DO NOT FLASH OUR RADIOS. DO NOT FLASH ROM/KERNEL unless you know it is safe.
Epic Touch 4G contains 4G. US Cellular Galaxy S2 doesn't. This is NOT a case of same phone, different branding on the same CDMA type network (Samsung Vitality/Samsung Admire)
However, if you are not rooted, people seems to have figured out how to root it using Epic 4G Touch methods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526093

hey man here is a stable mod and a few guides to fix a few things.
Get your rom from here
facebook fix here
Yes we can flash their ROMs, hell we have even flashed their modems before! However do a LOT of research before you do so, and don't be afraid to ask for help from another US Cellular user on here. Also to get a few things like MMS, and the carrier branding to be correct the ROMs require a few basic edits.
There is plenty of support for this device

If you are a cyanogenmod user than here are cm9 nightlies for your phone:
http://goo.im/devs/Shabbypenguin/R760-Nightlies
They are exactly the same as the sprint version just with wimax stuff removed and a few us cellular settings.

GSM support and switching carriers

I'm wanting to know how easy it if I wanted to go from vzw to say at&t or sprint. What all has to be done and what Roms are compatible with doing such. I'm using mikrunny v1.01 right now. Is that a good Rom to use if I wanted to switch carriers or is there a better one out there. I know roms are basically a trial and error kind of thing and it comes down to personal preference.
Sent Mikrunny'd Inc2 Superphone
Killing kittens is bad. There is a STICKIED thread about this for GSM users...

Mikrunny isn't gsm compatible, and all ics roms as of now HAVE gsm but very buggy gsm at that. But yes please refer to the thread above it'll help you loads!

Sprint version...

Will there be a separate section for the sprint version of the GNEX which was released today? Or will roms and kernels work the same? I know sprint is CDMA as well but it just confuses me..
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Been covered quite a bit. There's even a post in General from a Mod who is trying to add a Sprint dev section already, which I'm sure will happen.
Current Verizon ROMs will not work. Wait for Sprint ROMs to get going.

Why is it GSM roms cannot be converted to work with CDMA R800x? Can a DEV answer?

OK, I have had my R800x since last August and I love this phone. My last two phones were the Motorola Milestone and Motorola Droid 2 Global (never buying a Moto again, hate them and their locked tight BL)
Anyway, my question is why is it that someone cant just make a CDMA patch that would work with either all or select GSM Roms? Maybe make a patch and apply that as an update.zip to after flashing a GSM rom to the r800x and have it work? Can someone shed some light on this as to why this has happend or been suggested? I am sure that I am not the only one to ask this question........thoughts?
Think it's something to do with the radio.
Actually reminds me of region locking on DVDs :s
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
So there is no way to make a patch that would just over write the radio to work with CDMA Verizon?
I have seen some older android phones where they were able to flash a cdma patch to make GSM roms work on the CDMA variants of the phone..... why cant this be done here?
I have no idea how it works. Probably better asking a dev to be honest.
There may be a workaround but I can't be certain

There are select GSM ROMs that work (or somewhat work)
GSM to CDMA Patches do exist, and work most of the time.
2.3.3 GSM ROMs (that are below 4.0.x.x firmware) can be easily ported to CDMA
CM9 and AOKP have been ported to CDMA from the GSM variants.
The Sony ICS Beta has been ported to CDMA, with various results.
