So here's my idea for fullscreen navigation. I think it's a pretty good one, but I would appreciate some feedback.
The idea comes from the days of using my old ipod touch. There was a jailbreak program called SBSettings, where one would swipe across the 'status bar' and a menu would pop up regardless of what program you were using.
So my idea is the following. Set up a transparent, completely invisible, 'field' at the bottom of the screen. Once this field is broken by a swipe, the appropriate action is executed. Here's some pictures of what I mean. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the crappy title of the post, I hit enter on accident and submitted my post prematurely.

Don't we kinda have this already in nova launcher?

I don't know. I use nova launcher, but not prime. I haven't really checked out the gestures.
LMT Launcher
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Novel idea, might do a good job at getting around the problem that navbar replacements that depend on an overlay (button savior, lmt's pie launcher) have with interfering with the UI.
However, LMT's gestures are better solution, imo. Once you get rid of the navbar, why build your new model on the assumption that this is the physical place on the screen where these actions are triggered? A sufficiently unmistakable gesture pattern embraces the idea that you want to execute a function and not have part of the screen tied to it. Once you take away the visual component you depend on the idea that the user knows what they are doing from memory, not intuition, in which case tying an action to a location is unnecessary.
The idea will probably be well received here on XDA, but the general public (mom, dad, uncle, sister) will not get it. Simplicity wins usually, unfortunately.

Hi
Is there any software that will zoom in on a text area? For example in a text field if I want to move from the 7 character to the 3rd character to correct a mistake it's a guessing game where you click unless you use the stylus. A friend showed me his IPhone and his will put a magnifying glass over the text area so you can move your finger left and the cursor will follow.
Searched on Google but could not find anything like what my friend had.
Thanks
ps. Could someone please change the title from [REG] to [REQ]. Thanks

i don't see any significant magnification on the i-photo you posted
i agree that it's easier if you can move the cursor by moving your finger left or right in the magnifying glass but believe me it's as easy as using the arrow keys in htc keyboard to move the cursor! No need to tap on the screen, just use the arrows to find the right spot
The problem is I don't use the HTC keyboard. I use Resco with the iskin theme and are no cursor keys with that. I agree that the HTC keyboard with it's up down left right keys is the best way to navigate a text box but for people that don't use that keyboard it makes things more difficult.
has anything new popped up with this request. I know the Droid X and Droid 2 have this feature as well. Is there anyway to port this now that more and more android devices are getting this? Is it even possible to port something like this to the Droid 1?
the xperias used to have this... but they removed it with Android 8
First off I appologize if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know where to start this thread so I thought it would be great if we could develop such an application to work on all these devices which feature a pretty useless zoombar.
I used to own a Touch Pro (Raphael) and evolved to a new Touch Pro2 (Rhodium), the one thing I miss the most (besides the camera LED) is the D-Pad and Enter button.... when the phone is in portrait mode.
I think this image describes my idea pretty well:

I have no programming skills so I am seeking the great help of all the developers here on XDA. I hope some of you like my idea and post comments and hopefully someone will try and develop this for us to use.
It should have 5 main functions, slide Left, slide Right, tap Up, tap Down, & tap Enter.
What do you think?
+1
I would pay for an app that would do what you just described.
There are several threads about the zoom bar and some solutions
http://www.fuzemobility.com/your-zoo...s-your-friend/
Energy ROMs also have scrolling enabled in some apps and zooming in others
(I know, NRGZ puts out great ROMs) which comes in handy but what you described would come close to d-pad like controls, which is exactly what Iām looking for.
I loved ALL the buttons on my Tilt (Kaiser),
I got used to the available buttons on my Touch Pro and resistive area by the d-pad.
Absolutely love my Tilt 2, but find the lack of buttons can get frustrating.
bump, this thread needs some serious attention from the developers, i would love a nice xmas gift in the form of this app
+1 - the current functionality is pretty useless - it's just a waste of space at the moment.
i would want this so i can play the emulators for nes and snes game.
As most of you know I'm a minimalist but I have to say that even I like this launcher. I've been playing with it for hours straight and really like it. This is the closest I found to having you phone serve you vs installing 100+ apps for every little thing and finding you need yet another app.
Is it perfect? No. Is it gee-whiz animations and transitions pretty? No. Imagine if FB Home was the entire freakin' Universe Home. Play store rating of 4.4 and 10,000 - 50,000 so far.

I was looking at this before, lets give it spin.
Lrod's Optimus G
I can't wait to see more customization or personal features...This is rockin' for a Beta...and I never saw it...Thanks
Will be trying this, thanks!
Definitely sold me by putting Walt White on the Wallpaper (you just got alliterated!)
Edit: an interesting blurb from the link you provided
"Last November, Mozilla announced plans to integrate the launcher into its Firefox OS interface with hopes that it will help to distinguish the platform from other mobile operating systems."
Hi guys, we plan on adding more cool features- some are customization related.
We try to focus on performance and functionality first, though.
Cool
Glad I stumbled on this thread, just started using this launcher and I really, really like it. Thanks! Lol my first post and a member since January 2011, I guess I must like your launcher
I saw this a while back. How useful is it though if you don't have or wanna pay for on-the-go data?
I figured we could use a thread to share our home screens and our themed home screens. Always seemed to be a big hit in the other areas I was in.

Mine is simple right now.
Nova Launcher Prime, Zooper Widgets and Moonshine Icons.
Felt like changing it up just a bit. Still keeping it simple. (I do have a page to the left and right of the home screen with a few widgets on them. Weather, Google Search, etc..)
Did not go too crazy on the home screen setup this time but i got BlinkFeed running with flipboard and a few folders (School, work, games, etc)

Hello,
What's the font you're using?.
Thanks.
Sorry i can't remember
Hi, everyone. I really like the design of original Android pie, I am using Havoc OS 2.0 which is a wonderful rom. Swap up on home button and switch apps is very attractive to me. But there is only one problem, The Google search, I am from mainland China and it's unconvinced for me to use this app, and to be honest I don't like this design that much either, so I wonder is there any way to hide Google search bar in the bottom? I tried disable Google app. But search bar is still in the bottom and when I touch it I went to the app information page of Google. The other third launchers aren't smooth as pixel launcher. :crying:
Could you please give me any suggestions? Thanks.
