Probably not Conclusive, but the General Consensus is......One X camera Kicks S3 Camera's ass.

Also note that the One X's stock camera app is pretty aggressive with the compression. You want full image quality use a third party camera app

Easy man, I'm on your side! This is the first camera comparison between the two phones and the winner is clearly the ONE X.

Could someone post a couple of the Comparison pics on here for me and say which is which?

Easy? Easy?!?! Growl!
I suppose we better get used to it, they'll be no end of comparisons while the gs3, HOX and iphone are fighting for top spot.
I'd like to see a gs2 vs gs3 comparison, to see how much they have actually improved.

Nothing much known about the sensor SGS3 uses. It's S5C73M3 BSI sensor. Whereas HOX uses the Samsung sensor S5K3H2YX. This was one of sensors in SGS2. HOX has the same sensor used in SGS2.

Indept Camera & Video Details

Both are equally good.

no, they're not equally good. The SGS3 has a yellow tint on it and is significantly less sharp.
Also.. picture quality has little to do with the sensor itself. It has all to do with optics.
(and from a photographers view: putting a 8MP sensor in a phone is bogus as no optics on a phone allow for that resolution on the sensor.)
But.. anyway: The SGS3 has the camera hardware not finalized. This might change until the first units ship. I promise that the yellow tint will dissapear in the SGS3 - but it will stay less sharp than the HOX.
But nevertheless, the HOX is significantly better. Really - and I don't own one but do consider myself a amateur photographer.
And one more thing on the sensor used: In that user review from "boodies" he talks about the sensor of the HOX being the same as in the SGS2. So what? It's just a sensor. The sensor does not get you image quality (read: sharpness). It get's you color accuracy and light sensitivity (together with the aperture).
No sensor can produce image quality (read: sharpness) as this is solely the part of the optics (read: the lenses). Nobody should give a damn about which phone uses which sensor. The images posted here clearly show the results: actual resolution, color accuracy and lighting is waaay better on the HOX.
period. (and I'm not a fan-boy - I look at the pictures alone)
I wish photographers would review smartphone cameras. Smartphone people know some stuff about user interface, CPUs and GPUs - but image quality is the topic of photographers.
Here's a mean statement: Maybe the yellow tint on the SGS3 is compensated by a blueish tint of the AMOLED ?

I think it's really too early to judge. Software really matters here - I'll wait at least for the final device. Even HTC improved the camera with update 1.29 and I hope it's keep getting better. Too bad they have such aggressive compression

Camera quality sucks compared to iphone

Actually closer to useless as a scanner.

bashing the camera yes, not the phone, yes I am rooted running stock rom, I have not messed much with the settings, have you tried taking a picture of a document and see how good of a scan you get?
I will look at the setting, but I have my doubts that I will ever get as good an image as the iphone.
Seriously HTC get it together, I should not have to carry an additional scanner.

What app are you using? or are you just taking pictures and uploading them?
I have both the iphone 3GS and my Inc 2. I also have access to an iphone 4 and 4S and I have to say that the inc 2 camera is on par with the 4S camera which is supposed to have the best optics out of all the iphones.
I can post up results too if you like? Are you sure your lens isn't smudged? or possibly defective?
IPhone 4s and dinc2 both have 8mp cameras bro. Adjust your settings I know that when I was running stock 8mp wasn't the default

So your saying I got screwed on my brand new phone.
I am not using any program just taking a picture, after all that's what my buddy does with his phone.
Maybe I will go by the Verizon store and see if the phone they have does better than mine.
My buddy had the iphone 4, and now has the 4S, and I have to say the document picture taken with the Dinc is no good at all.
I will post pics.

I have not compared the quality of pictures, just images of documents, if I am trying to focus binoculars, of cameras, I focus on trying to read something, but in this case I need the documents to mail them in PDF format after printing them.
I'd have to agree that the iphone 4s does have better picture quality. It is newer hardware after all. The dinc2 camera works perfectly for me though. You have to remember it's a phone with a camera, not a camera with a phone.

I think you need to adjust your metering in settings. I'm able to do that on cm7 not sure if its an option with the stock camera app, but the consensus is that the sense camera is better than the aosp camera. When metering mode is changed from center weighted to frame average on cm7 i get no focal spot blur like i do in a shot with center weight metering.
Maybe someone with a sense camera can chime in on what metering options are available with it but changing that might help your focal blur on documents

if this is really the galaxy s III i'm going to keep my nexus

Here is a leak that seems to be true of the galaxy s III.

Only 1GB of ram and looks like a bigger version of the S2. Quad core is nice but not sure about the battery. What totally made me not want this only 8mp camera, I was going to get it if it was 12mp in heartbeat. but 5 vs 8 price for performance not really worth it.
There is another leak where in fact it says it has a 12mp camera
Too me id rather have development over a camera and quad core
Why on earth do I need a quad core phone?
Also if you want good pictures get a real digital camera

I read that all the photos and videos are not the final design as Samsung have encased the Galaxy S 3 internals in a mock up shell so no one knows what it looks like. They don't want an iPhone bar related incident.

development = more bugs for us to test.
I rather just have a polish OS. I don't want to be carrying a camera and a phone, I rather have good camera in my phone. if I had the S2 camera or the iphone 4S, I wouldn't care as much about a 12mp camera. I know many people here believe the nexus camera is not that bad, but I think that's just being ignorant. I think its pretty lame for being newer then the S2 and the camera being worst. I can go on and on about it also not having a SD slot and pentile screen.

Nah, the phone is over hyped. Normally I always stick with my contract for two years. But the reason of me switching so fast is because the faster I sell the nexus phone, the more value I get. Not to mention if the Galaxy S III does come with a 12mp + LTE internet for AT&T i'm going to switch in a heartbeat.

I owned a GS2 before my GN. The difference is suppose to be with jagged edges and not colors and you cannot see any of that in the GN like you can on lower res devices that use pentile displays.
For color, we can already improve that with kernels and apps for the GN so still don't see your point...
Will a Super Amoled plus screen look better, I am sure to some degree it will but to complain about the screen we have now is ridiculous.

Then pentile screen is not that problem
1. 1gb of ram is more than enough for a phone, heck most phones with 512mb run fine
2. The stock color settings are what make the super amoled hd screen appear inferior to the super amoled plus, that can easily be fixed, the whites on my screen are some of the best I've seen.
3. Quality of a camera isn't dependant on its mega pixels, that only determines the size of the picture, the quality of the pictures is entirely dependant on its sensor and lense, the gnex has a decent sensor, but it's nowhere near the best. We still don't know about the gs3's sensor, so we can't judge how good it's camera is yet.

Camera Quality...

As a new one x user coming from a sensation im a little dissapointed in the onex camera tbh, from what I can tell the quality isnt that much better,???
Any tips or advice appreciated
too saturated, isn't it?
I find pictures too saturated indeed. At -1, they are too unsaturated. Probably a setting of -0.5 (which is not possible) would be best! I hope this will be solved indeed.
Even though OneX’s camera is pretty good (especially under low light conditions) I don’t think its significantly better than 8MP phone cameras from last year. Phones cameras are getting better each day, but they are still far behind even dedicated compact P&S cameras.

Well, phone camera sensors and lenses have to be small, and therefore lose quality.
Take a look at the photo thread some great pictures in there, takes time to get that good shoot.
For still subjects try hdr mode, takes a light then dark picture then renders them together so you get better contrast from light to dark.
Also remember that the gallery has photo edits and not just pre sets as full control on levels etc.

Not even going to beat a sub $200 compact point & shoot camera (let alone DSLRs)... My 4 year old 8MP Canon compact takes far better photos.
I haven't done extensive testing, but from the few indoor and outdoor photos taken by me from both phones, I think under dark conditions One X produces slightly better images (but still very grainy), but with plenty of light S3 produces better images (if not equal) to One X.
saturation
My previous HTC HD2 (with Android ROM) produced better pictures than my new HTC One X: less saturated. Pictures look to colour-ish, I would say with the HOX.
Some good replies here so thanks a lot I've not actually fiddled too much with the camera yet, overall i'm pretty pleased with my upgrade from sensation to one x, fortunately i bought the onex simfree and am on a 1 month contract so next htc handset (or possibly something else) i may upgrade to that

I am so torn with regards to my next phone, and I have heard insanely amazing things about the One, but I am also a pretty avid mobile photographer and really appreciate a better than average camera....
Let me know if you try this and if you can, post the results?

I honestly wouldn't go with the HTC One or the GS4 if you want a great mobile camera. Where the HTC One excels in average light and low-light, it is awful outdoors, and the 4MP's aren't anything extraordinary either. The iPhone5 has a slightly better camera than the One, and the 5S should be getting released in less than a month. I honestly hate referring you to the iPhone because it sucks everywhere else against Android. The 5S should be a getting a slightly improved camera which would put it as a good bit better than the One's camera. The GS4's camera isn't better than the One, but it does do better in bright lighting/outdoors and has a better MP count.
It is possible that the HTC One Max being released soon might be getting a better "Ultrapixel" camera than our non-phablet One's. Maybe look into that? Or the iPhone5S. I can't imagine the Nexus 5 being released in a few months would have a much better camera than last years Nexus, and not to mention it likely won't be on Verizon.
Also, the Moto X's camera is god awful.

Isn't odd to anyone else that you can't get the holy trifecta of build/update/camera on one phone these days? I am almost getting to that point where I am paranoid that there's been a backroom agreement between manufacturers to only have 1 or 2 out of 3....

Basically if you combined the iPhone5 and the HTC One specs and took the best of each, you would have the best mobile phone camera available. I tried out the Lumia 1020, not impressed in the slightest.
I have an HTC One and an iPhone 5 and I like the photos on the HTC One better. Although it could be the 1080p screen that's tricking me.
I have vignette and will take a stock camera + vignette pic shortly

I am inclined to agree. though, for my hands I'd prefer a 5 inch screen
The Sony i1 is being announced next week. G lens 20mp camera, expandable memory, etc. Might be worth waiting to see what they announce.

I agree with this completely. HTC got nearly everything right except for the camera. I'm hoping that the next iteration has slightly less bezel (think Moto X form factor) and a camera on par to whatever the 5S will have. If so, I'll be buying one at full price to replace this HTC One.
Ok I have taken 2 pictures, one with the stock camera and one with the Vignette camera. How would you like to see them? They're not the best pictures because it was lightly raining and I didn't want to get my phone wet so I was trying to keep the phone under the eve of my roof.

Why the doubt? There has been at least one Sony Android phones on Verizon before.
We also need to consider another factor. A camera is only as good as the photographer using it. I am by no means a professional yet in have seen great pictures and taken great pics with the HTC one that I would put up against the gs4 or the iPhone 5(I have owned all 3). The HTC one has many more options than either one of those cameras when it comes to exposure, shutter, white balance, etc. The camera editor is also great on this phone. If you use the correct scene it also helps a bunch as well.
Unless we are talking about enlarging the pic bigger than a 4x6 or 5x7 then that's where the One would fail and the GS4 or ip5 would clearly succeed. As far as posting to Facebook or instagram etc the one will be great .

just embed them in this thread?
Not a great morning here, cloudy/foggy, but heres a shot from both stock and vignette, respectively. Also attached a zip of the 2 since the pics would be altered due to size limits. The 'brighter' one (also taken fist, check filename) is the stock. Didn't get Vignette to focus well, and can only take 3.1M images, was on "superfine" with no filter.
For some reason Vignette can only capture up to 3.1MP on the HTC One, plus it doesn't do HDR either. I find it best to use the stock camera with HDR and then share with Vignette for the filters I want to apply. The photo comes out better than just using Vignette straight.

if i used them yeah thats what you would have to do. HTC has an odd camera and pixel count, so i'm not surprised Vignette doesn't properly support it. They've always been good about resolving issues though, so theres hope.

Need Your Opinion Before Buying HTC One M8

Hello everyone, I'm currently using Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, and about to buy a new mobile, I've read about the HTC One M8, I liked it and planning to get it. All I need is to hear your opinions as users, does it worth its price? Any issues? Any advice? Any comment is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Best phone I've ever owned.
IMO it's still the best phone you can get
I could go on and on how good it is, so I'll keep it short:
One of the fastest phones available, awesome speakers, metal body feels nice and premium, definitely worth it.
Camera isn't bad at all - it just takes pics in lower resolution, so zooming might be problematic. Apart from that it's fun to use.
People say that the glacial silver variant is less slippery.
I've had m8 for 9 months now and it caused me no problems at all. I'm using it without case so the back is a bit scratched and top speaker is a bit more quiet than the other one due to contact with water, but still works.
It will definitely feel much, much better than your s3 mini.

That's great, thanks for sharing your experience!
I have read some opinions about the camera saying that there appears a purple color on bright areas, does that happen? And if so, does that happen a lot?

You will notice a big jump coming from my s3 mini. M8 has spoiled me a lot with speed and the quality of the phone; this is why I am staying with this phone over m9. I thought the m9 is not a big upgrade. Hopefully HTC get back to where they were with m10.
The camera of the phone is decent but then again I rarely take any pictures on a phone. The performance, sound and the build quality is top notch.

That's awesome! Thanks!
One reason I didn't go with the M9 is the Snapdragon 810 and its overheating issue. However, I don't know if it exists in the M9.

No no, I didn't mean the M8, I meant that I didn't take the M9 in my considerations because of the Snapdragon 810 issue (However, I'm not sure it exists on it, the M9 not the M8).

I never experienced that, although I read a review where it's pointed out it happens in bright, contrast areas.

M9 had a much higher temperature under stress than other phones, but htc has fixed it - basically what they did is make thermal throttling kick in faster and be more agressive.

I'd say it does happen sometimes, but not a lot. I also think it somewhat subject to personal opinion and taste. Its never really bothered me, but apparently it bothers some (probably not most) folks. Honestly, its the type of thing I wouldn't have given any thought, if I hadn't seen it discussed here. To me, its just how the camera is tuned to depict certain colors and light levels. No camera truly captures colors the exact same way your eyes do. Although I'll buy the argument that some cameras (phones) capture it better than others.
I take a lot of pics with my phone. I have over 1000 on my phone right now. Just scrolling through the first few hundred, I see maybe 4 or 5 shots that look purple.
Also, flesh tones can appear a bit overly "pink" in some lighting conditions. But again, its somewhat a matter of personal taste how much you will even notice. And like the "purple" issue, its much more the exception than the rule, at least IMO.

Well, I don't use the camera so much, but I wanted to get an overview of all the device's pros and cons.
For sure, the M8's camera is not the best out there, and there may be a lot of better options (regarding the camera), but I don't think I will complain about it as I said before that I'm not a big camera user. I saw many good and nice pictures taken using it, so I'm going with your opinion that it's an exception, not the rule.

I'd even debate the fact there are many better options for camera phone; at least "better" in all conditions. While others may have higher resolution and better clarity in daylight; M8 outperforms many of them in low-light.

It was the One M7 that had the Purple issue. If the M8 has/had it, I never saw it.
