So, they've spent a few thousand dollars to promote their extremely limited service? What's that going to do? I'll bet that a good chunk of the people who are able to officially use Google Wallet are probably already using it. Instead of doing promotions, work harder on removing the damn limitations, aye Google? This service will never take off until Google puts all of its energy into removing the many barriers to use of Wallet.
Not to mention that they can't even get their product placement right - what kind of fake version of Google Wallet is that?

That expansion includes the Nexus that's sold in the Play Store and Sprint's Nexus, so it's almost like the same device. The other two are some LG devices that seem otherwise uninteresting.
Even if it were really expanded to five devices, that wouldn't be enough. The service is still only available in the USA where even chip and pin hasn't taken off. The UK, and Europe in general, would be much more accepting of Google Wallet. Networks aren't as involved in what is on a phone over here, and we're open to all sorts of new payment methods.
Not to mention that the Olympics will be here in London in two months time - a perfect opportunity to show the capability of Google Wallet on a truly global scale.
I just wish there were more places I could use google wallet. As of now I'm limited to wawa and 7-11

I love Fringe!
I saw it too...
And while it's available on 5 devices now it's not going to really take off until people can link their existing credit/debit cards to the system. I've found that I can use it quite often at checkout but until they allow more credit/debit cards I'm dealing with the PITA prepaid stuff... hate that. Now when I can use my AmEx with Google Wallet... I'll be happy.
Google really does need to get off their duffs here. ISIS can be seen on the horizon and if Apple includes it in the iPhone 5 they'll be redefining the standard.

If Apple chooses to introduce NFC payments with the iPhone 5, then the game is pretty much over for Google Wallet.
Apple supposedly have 250 million users who have entered their card details into iTunes. Any new iPhone model is pretty much guaranteed to sell 20 million units in its first quarter on sale. If 5% of that uses Apple's NFC solution, it will surely be much more than what Google currently have, due to their horribly limited user requirements.
Worst of all, Apple has huge amounts of capital. Huge amounts. What if they decided to use some sort of proprietary NFC solution? They could very well offer the new proprietary terminals for free to retailers around the world.
I'm worried for Google Wallet. It's a great product, but Google's painfully slow development suggests that the future isn't bright for it.

For now, yes. The vast majority of Google's revenue still comes from search adverts apparently. But they know that they need multiple revenue streams, and Google Wallet would be a great way to increase advert sales, as they'd be able to see what we buy and deliver relevant deals from retailers.
Perhaps it seems impossible now, but Google might not be the kings of search forever. Nokia once had around 70% global smartphone marketshare. They've proven that even giants can fall in just a few years.
There are quite a few places around here that have PayPass (just outside of Cincinnati ).
CVS, Walgreens, some Shell's, MacDonald's, Home Depot.
Biggest thing stopping me from using it more is not being able to attach it to my existing CC or Check Card. I'm not going to get a citibank card just for Google Wallet.

You don't think that all that transactional detail isn't important? This could be a good thing for google to have access to search results and purchasing habits when serving up ads and offers.

For me it's Jack in the Box, Home Depot, CVS, Rite Aid, McDonalds, Whole Foods, 7-11, American Eagle, Macy's and a few gas stations by the freeway. There's a Mastercard PayPass locator in the Play Store... I've found it to be fairly useful for finding nearby businesses.

physical keyboard for the loss.
Too each their own and i guess this could fill a niche....but I hate sliders....i have yet to see one that doesn't compromise the structural integrity and durability of a device (hell some of them even feel loose and wobbly out of the box much less after 6 months to a year of usage). Plus....i feel in landscape mode the onscreen keyboards on the captivate and many of the new larger screen devices are as fast, accurate, and functional as any of the physical keyboards i have tested.
i am waiting the month out to see what develops with the Prime.
If it doesn't come to ATT is will either go with the SGSII or wait out the III which could be 1st quarter 2012.
For me a physical keyboard would make me pass even on a nicely spec'd out device.
Why did they give it the Captivate name? It looks identical to the Fascinate... Silly AT&T branding

The Captivate is the Honda Civic of smart phones. They're probably just capitalizing on its good name. I have to wonder, though, how many people will associate the name with a bad GPS and avoid it.

If I'm paying for a GPS, it should work. PERIOD. The box the phone came in says it has a GPS, so I expect it to work. If the GPS in my $200 phone can't tell me where I am on a sunny day, I have a problem with that.
GPS and Google's turn-by-turn navigation are one of the big reasons I chose Android. I travel all over the place for work, and I'm not about to hit up a travel store on every trip to purchase a local street map for $10 when I can get instant directions to wherever I need to go, complete with traffic info, right on my phone.
After a trip to PA with my boss using his Droid X GPS, I was excited to get an Android phone. Except that I got a Captivate that took 15 minutes to tell me I was in the next town from where I actually was. Sorry if it disturbs your zen-like bliss, but I felt that I had been tricked, and I wasn't happy about it.
I don't use GPS because I'm an idiot. I use GPS because it saves me a lot of time and hassle when I'm someplace unfamiliar. I used to draw maps for a Civil Engineering firm...I can certainly read one.
Maybe you don't get out of your own neighborhood very often and have no real use for a GPS. Maybe you have a photographic memory and have every road in the US etched in your gray matter. Some of us have to fly to Arizona or California, Drive to Pennsylvania or into DC, or travel to some other place we've never been before with little to no notice. Some of us even go on vacation once in a while and don't know where anything is. Why would I spend money on a map when Google Maps and turn-by-turn navigation are available at no extra cost?
Just because something isn't important to you doesn't mean it's not important or useful to others...or that their reasons aren't legitimate. People are stupid because they're stupid. Not because they choose one tool over another.
Cant Wait
Been waiting for this phone for 2 years.... not been a decent QWERTY on android. still sat with my TP2.
a couple of things been causing me to scratch my head.
Why is the Power/USB at the top on these newer devices? makes docking a pain.
Why no TAB button? surely a really useful button to have on a qwerty.
and my last question/food for thought, not related to just this Phone, Why no Biometrics’ for security? surly with some for the intended use of NFC security will need beefing up.
either way as soon as it appears on Clove I’ll be ordering

yes i think he just tore studacris's.
[rant]isn't it somewhat ironic to rant about people utilizing technological advancements/tools in a smartphone forum?
I mean say for example studacris cellphone was plagued with poor reception...would he be just in griping or complaining about the devices deficiency? His rant would be akin to someone responding to that with "what..what you want good reception...haven't you ever heard of a landline?" Or pointing out the fact that cellphones and their contact storage and dial by contact/name have all but caused a large percentage of people to not even have their closest loves ones phone #'s memorized.[rant]
p.s. putting "rant" before and after my rant was tongue in cheek to highlight that apparently in addition to not knowing how to add 2+2 without a calculator people have lost the ability to utilize sarcasm and/or properly rant without specifically telling people that it is in fact a rant. =)~

Reminds me of a report I read recently about why the patent system is in such a mess, in particular in the USA.
You may well be correct, but as it stands, there is a lot of $$$"s to be made patenting ideas and later taking legal action against companies/people that use a similar idea.
If this is just an idea, and can be patented, that is just unfair, no?
So basically, I can simply sleep to dream something and patent it .. Like I will patent Water Fueled Battery ... Or Oxygen Cell Battery .. And draw something imaginary equipment.
Is that it?
My goodness me ...

A patent is not as much an idea as it is a method or procedure to achieve an objective. Others can apply for patents on hydrogen fuel cells in mobile devices as long as there is a material difference in the method or procedure in which the objective is obtained by contrast to what Apple is filing. And while Apple may have filed these claims, there is no guarantee they will be approved. We do not know who else has filed similar applications before Apple a.k.a. prior art or whether or not Apple's claims are too broad/obvious.
Just a PR stunt, get over it. Good time to publish "news" like this as it's otherwise relatively quiet on the news front.

Most of the people lost the clue what patents really are for.
Imagine if the light bulb wasn't invented till tomorrow and apple would hold a patent for glass object that produces light (put more complex description if you wish) before It was actually produced by someone. Who should really hold the patent here?
Apple or person that made the lightbulb?
If you can't implement your idea in real life and just have it on the paper you should not have rights to it.
How many theories were wrong on the paper? Make it happen get a prototype or something....
Plain piece of paper with a description of how something is going to work or explaining the purpose is not going to change our lives... I fair enough it speeds up the invention cos people have to work around it but still its not fair...
Same goes to design patents... If something is common as a frigging loaf of bread it should not be patented... Aka design of portable device with a touch screen and a button (or not)

The idea has been around for longer than I can remember, but yeah implementation just isn't practical right now. I mean the big car companies haven't been able to make it anywhere near practical or economical for cars yet, so scaling to something like a phone is a long long way off.
I also find it funny how they propel these ideas as if they are going to save us from the mass energy problem we have. You still need to 'charge' these cells - all they are is a clean storage mechanism. You still need to generate the energy somehow - so that paragraph in that news story from the patent just makes me laugh.
If anyone is still under any illusion this is going to happen 'soon' read this:

SALE ON APPS HERE!!
Google Play APKs here.
Okay so Google has changed a bunch of their apps adding the word "Play", seemingly NOTHING has changed except the addition of the word. Best I can tell it is an attempt to make people aware of their cloud services, which have been in place for a while now. They even changed the "Android Market" on desktop to "Google Play", so pointless. However, they are ushering in the change with a HUGE sale of some of their best apps for only 50c. And the "Play of the Day" is "Where's My Water?" for 25c. My suggestion is buy them all. I already had most of them from the 10c sale they did last year, which was a much better deal, but I picked up the ones I didn't have. Just a heads up.

I always thought Market is too generic for the app store and it can mean anything. Play is not awesome but better than Market, at least it's more identifiable.
Just noticed this new "Play" moniker myself too. Already raped my Visa with a hefty $4 to grab 8 games!
I love it when these types of sales appear...too bad I paid full price for Shadowgun back when it was launched...oh well, the new savings make me feel better!
Good find my man, thanks.
Seems to be a sale on certain music selections today as well.
Best $12.95 I've spent in awhile...

Apple uses the word "AppStore", and they did sue Amazon over it. I dont think they won, but they absolutely took them to court, because Apple is a bunch of fascist Dbags.

Am I seein' double here? A quadruple post?
I bought Tune in and Shadow Gun. Own a few of the other apps on sale, purchased during the 10 cent sale in December.
I re-did the link hopefully this one is better!
As for the 25c "Play of the Day", "Wheres My Water?", I would say that is a fun game except Disney has pulled a bunch of BS as in excluding levels from the paid version that are in the free version, and then adding Valentines Day levels to the free version ONLY!! Obviously they want you to click on the ads. I have personally wrote them an email and wrote on their fb wall about this, they dont care, they have no intention of updating for users who PAID to support them. They only want you to click on their ads. assholes.
It seams as if the "Play of the Day" thing will be a every day thing now!! That is cool with me. Not quite the Amazon "FREE app of the Day", but I like the Android Market, err, "Google Play" uhm Market better than Amazon AppStore anyways.
Man I hate android's market sometimes. I installed TuneIn Radio Pro from GetJar's market awhile ago. Now it shows up in android's market as having been purchased (which I never did). I'd like to buy it today, but it says it's already purchased. Click on install and it get's declined because I haven't purchased it. I contacted google support over two months ago because of a similar issue with another app and they are 'still working to resolve this issue'. In another year or two, I'm sure they'll get it fixed...sigh. Just give me a delete button.
I guess I can use another google account, but that seems like a pain as well.

It seems that the market has this problem with any 3rd party app store. I got SwiftKey X off Amazon's app store and even though Google's system says I have purchased it, I cannot get it to update. This isn't the biggest problem because I can just hop over to Amazon and do it that way, but it could be annoying if I ever decided I didn't want to partake in Amazon's services anymore...
Hopefully if that day ever comes this issue will be fixed.

I haven't really been watching Amazons FAOTD lately, but when I have looked it seems that the picks are usually not that great. I, for one, would rather have a discounted price on a good app then get a bad one for free...

Had this problem with Osmos HD (got it in the "Humble Bundle" last month, but want updates from Market, err, ugh, Play). I uninstalled, cleared chache/data in Market, "broke" Market links with Titanium Backup, waited about 10 minutes and was able to purchase it on desktop. Hope that helps!

Agreed agreed agreed! And I would rather give 25c to the Android Market than deal with the Amazon AppStore. But just as an example.. Today's app "WMW?" was given away for free from Amazon months ago. Its actually really wierd, I LOVE everything else about Amazon.. Their cloud is the tits! UNLIMITED music in the cloud for $20/year. Their Prime service is double tits! Yes I am a homebody, and Ive been boycotting WalMart for years now. Their customer service is excellent, any time I have a problem and that is rare, but if I do they just credit me back the cost no questions asked. Their Free app of the Day is a really cool concept BUT the Amazon AppStore app itself drives me effing crazy! I dont know what it is about it I just hate it, yes I realize it just got an update recently and the notifications can now be disabled, but I just dont have any love for the Amazon AppStore app. I always kill it after checking the FAotD because I feel like it eats my battery.

Apple did sue Amazon for calling it Amazon Appstore but Google's app market is, was called Market which Apple did NOT patent for it and did NOT sue.
Apple is just capitalism at its finest. There's nothing personal about all the lawsuits, especially after Jobs passed away.

I think you are confusing capitalism and fascism. As for Steve Jobs I hear Apple is releasing an upgraded version this summer. Steve Jobs 2.0 will come with curley hair, a white turtleneck, and not wear "dad jeans".
What can we do to get GW accepted in more places? Or places that take paypass to get the darn machines working??? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Use it. That's about it. To be honest though, there really isn't a big demand for the technology at the moment. Few people have devices that can use the technology, and fewer still actually bother with it even if they have a capable device. The physical wallet isn't going anywhere anytime soon because it contains many things that your phone probably won't be privy to for a long time. Why bother with Google Wallet when you can just as easily pull out the credit card that your google wallet uses anyway, and not have to worry about whether or not the place you're at has NFC support?
I would LOVE for Google Wallet to catch on (and get a few more features <.<; ) and I think it will-- in a few years. For now, however, Google Wallet hasn't really proven itself to businesses and the average user as anything more than a gimmick.
I won't even bother using it until I can link it to my debit card.
More and more places accept paypass all the time. Google wallet isn't the only thing that uses it btw. I've never had an issue with a paypass machine myself.
I FINALLY found a place in my town where it works. It was a McDonalds, heh. Too bad I almost never go to McDonalds....

The feature I like the best is that it's not linked to my atm/debit card or my personal credit cards. That its only linked to the Google card and I have to put money into it makes me feel very safe and secure. I would have never activated Google wallet if it linked to my personal banking and credit info. This is by far the safest rout.

Linking it to debit would help acceptance a lot I think. And perhaps digital ids but that may be a ways off unless governments step in and push that. But as is, it is probably too easy to hack, fake or manipulate digital ids. But it would be sooooo freaking awesome to get other cards working with this tech. Car insurance, health insurance, club, grocery store cards/ids. A true digital wallet would be awesome. Would have to get a leather case for my nexus then.
let it be.

Like another person said the acceptance of Google wallet isn't the issue it is updating them because I think MasterCard only card that some have built-in got lectured at wall greens that they won't turn it on but what's point in having it displayed anyway next iPhone 5 is supposedly going to have it so demand should increase and public awareness of it should increase I swear one place kept hitting cancel on me on purpose because they thought I was scamming them.

Was able to link my food stamps to it. Been on a spending Bender ever since.
Went straight to the strip club where, surprisingly, they have pay pass. Then off to cigarette depot for some smokes. Bought me a carton, no more loosies for me. After that, got some lotto tickets @ 7-11. Then off to white castle.
I even got enough left on my "IL Link" card that I can sell the rest of the funds to one of my baby mommas for fifty cent on the dolla.

That's probably another "issue". If iPhone doesn't have it is no good or not cool.

Basically companies have to pay for the machines that they use to accept credit cards etc. The only way for this to get HUGE and FAST is for Google to become contracted with certain businesses to provide them with these PayPass scanners, even if they have to produce their own Google Branded versions. This way they have control and can distribute them. Otherwise ATM we are stuck with places that have the PayPass machines. Most companies go cheap and get those ugly looking grey plastic card machines that aren't very advanced, just for the fact they are cheap. Google will have to make the move though, businesses will not pay the dough to switch to these machines.

I use mine all the time...
McD's, 7-11, CVS and even Whole Foods. There's an app for MC Paypass locations and I've found everywhere that's on the list generally accepts them. I have to agree with it being limited. Google Wallet needs to stop treating this like a hobby and add cards other than Citibank. GW needs to mature a lot before ISIS or even Apple arrives on the scene.

LOL... I've heard the clerks tell people they can't use credit cards. I just ambush them and hit the terminal with my phone and if they ever say anything I can just show them the pic of the GW Prepaid and point at the "DEBIT" in the graphic. After all I can't control how their POS terminal processes it and by the time they notice it's too late.

clearly you aren't on food stamps or you would know how to work those angles. Lol.
And, I was being sarcastic about everything I said. just to make sure everyone knows. But you can bet that someone will figure out how to link their food stamps to this. Here in Illinois food stamps are on a debit card called "Illinois link". And like most states, there are people who use them that know how to work the system to get all sorts of crazy stuff.
This morning I was at the gas station behind a guy who used his link to buy candy and soda not just for him but for his buddy too. Wearing 200 Jordans, gold chains, about 250 worth of clothes on, a gold grill, and diamonds in his ears. Talking on an iphone 4 the whole time. Then watched him get into his relatively new Lincoln Navigator with 20+" wheels. Then I had the privilege of following him on my way to work. His stereo booming the two blocks until he pulled into the govt housing authority homes, where I wouldn't be surprised if he lived.
So...I guess that probably contributed to my sarcasm this morning.
At any rate, won't be surprised if food stamps are on Nfc within a year or two.

I work with the side of providing free services to some of those people and the best part is a fair number of them tend to be the most demanding and presumptuous people I've met... just plain rude. Not sure what it is about paying for something that makes you nicer. Maybe we just don't appreciate something as much if its free. I hear ya. I used to live directly across from govt projects. I would always see aarons and rent a center trucks there dropping off big screen TV's. I even see several 50"+ televisions on the trash curb. Aside from that it wasn't a horrible place to live. if you don't mind loud music, large groups of 50+ people fighting with everything from broom sticks to tire irons, and weekly shootings that is.
But yeah. My sister is a cashier @ Walmart a and says a large portion of the people are rude. I've seen it myself standing in line behind many of them.
And don't get me wrong. A good deal of those people are in legitimate need of assistance. They are grateful for the help and do what they can to become self sufficient as time goes on.
But a significant portion of the people are not deserving, are rude, dishonest, and generally don't deserve anything they get.
and as for the comment about how putting food stamps on these devices would probably drive Google wallet. It probably would. And even though it is only on high end phones, you can bet your bottom dollar that a lot of people on welfare have high end phones.

So after side loading 2.4 a little while ago in a previous post I got a pop up lately that said I had to update Samsung Pay but it wouldn't let me update (assuming because I have the Note 7), and if I didn't update it, it would close. so I looked for the latest version: 2.5.02 apk found here:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...ease/samsung-pay-2-5-02-android-apk-download/
When I installed Samsung Pay it was acting up, my phone kept vibrating as if the credit card was trying to "come out". It kept doing it and Samung Pay wouldn't open. I didn't see an option to rollback the updates on my T-mobile version otherwise I'd try to get one before 2.4. However, I deleted the cache and data for both the Samsung Pay and Samsung Pay Framework, crossed my fingers and......VOILA! Samsung Pay 2.5.02 works!! lol I was able to load 2 credit cards back on. I tested the process of unlocking the card to use and there were no problems. Just need to try it at the store but its good to go/safe to try. I will add that when I first started up the app, it mentioned a notice regarding the Note 7 recall. It works though.
A note I will add regarding points from your credit card. I am a preferred customer at bank of america and they give me an extra 75% points. So instead of earning 4 points I earn 7. I noticed on my rewards page which (shows in real time regarding points earned/pending) when I use Samsung Pay, I did not earn the bonus points. Thats a biggie to miss out on. Money talks so I will probably just use Samsung Pay sparingly, as a backup and when I forget or don't have my cc. I still love Samsung Pay and its a top favorite feature on the Samsung phones for me. Something to keep in mind though if you get bonus points on top of the regular points from your credit card issuer.
Dude you are awesome thank so much for your post
It works but Samsung also screwed us - Note 7 is no longer a "qualifying device" and therefore cannot be used to redeem reward points.
EDIT: Actually, looks like redeeming points does work in the app.

Something weirder happened to me yesterday.
I got a notify that there was a Samsung Pay update so I tapped it.
The update ran (apparently) succesfully, but then the device immediately locked the UI (almost no more interaction with it) and a strange heartbit-like vibration started.
The only thing I could do was the access to the Power menu and nothing else.
Thanks God after rebooting I was quick enough to run Package Disabler and succesfully disable Samsung Pay.
After having uninstalled everything and installed manually latest framework & APK the issue was gone.
The most freaky issue I ever had...

I bet if a Note 7 owner were to win something substantial, Samsung would shut it down since we are all technically ineligible for reward points.

Same in the UK. In a way it's bizarre, but the smaller retailers tend to have them, whereas some of the big players have been much slower. I guess if you are a small shop, buying a couple of new card readers is small change, but if you are Tesco and have 100,000 devices to replace, it's a bigger challenge.

Yes, but as the other poster said it's very slow. What surprises me the most is the number of people who still don't know about Samsung Pay. I have it happen fairly often when I'm shopping where the cashier will try and stop me and say "oh we don't have that here" to which I reply yes you do. Then I complete the transaction and they either ask what it is or just look at me a little surprised. It cracks me up every time, my big thing is waiting for the time that I accidentally leave my wallet at home. I always have my phone on me so I know I will always have access to my credit or debit cards. That's one of the reasons why Samsung pay is so awesome in my opinion ?.

It's not available in the UK unfortunately. I don't know why.
Also, I wonder if Android Pay will eventually support MST? It would seem a lot easier to add MST support to Android Pay than to replace millions of card readers out there. Surely Google must be looking at it?
