hey guys, would it be possible to port this rom to our GN
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513055
this looks really awesome ..
If you wanted a device with Sense, you should've bought a HTC. I'm sick of seeing this Sense threads.
And I doubt any developer in this forum would bother porting Sense.
Yes please search this topic before posting this, it's been brought countless times already

You tell him!! I mean who would really want more options on such a developer friendly phone?? OP is just crazy! And why would a developer want to take the challenge anyway when they can just grab up some CM source code, throw some mods in and have their own ROM?

Or the OP could scroll down 2 or 3 threads and put his input into the other 2 sense port threads out there instead of cluttering things up. Just my .02.

Except that there are already multiple Launchers that can make the phone act like it has Sense on it, and there are plenty of topics *just* like this one.
Also, Sense is crap.

Wow some of you guys are being really moronic. Perhaps he likes Sense but wanted a phone with a 720p screen and Google Wallet, or no hardware buttons, or countless other reasons.
Fair enough for telling him he should have searched before posting but just because you don't like Sense it doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

Well I want a ZR1 Corvette that gets great gas mileage. Doesn't mean I'm gonna go out and buy one based on the assumption that I heard one time someone was able to optimize the motor and it boosted gas mileage by 50% without sacrificing power. Can't always have our cake and eat it too. Damn consumer mentality...

Hey the Nexus One had sense roms.. and they was every day friendly..
But i agree with what other users have said and i say it all the time.. What do you people be thinking about when you buy phones?
If i like Sense ima buy a sense phone.. but if i cant live without my AOSP than im going to stay on a AOSP phone. or buy both..
i say always check a phone "hackabillty" before buying it.. i always wait a few weeks or so before buying a new hot product..
I don't get why people even post on a thread if all they're gonna do is complain, call others assholes or "bright crayons". If you DONT like it, DONT post. Others might be up for a port, just because you aren't you shouldn't feel the need to be rude about it.
Although I might add also that you should have searched the rest of the generals page b4 posting, there should be about 3-4 other threads about this
When there's a developer who is ready to try the port, he will; we won't need to ask for it. There have been attempts already (for both Touchwiz and Sense) but there are problems.
Check the CDMA section of the GNex on Rootswiki and youll know what Im talking about
Seriously if you don't want Sense on your phone ignore the thread, some of us have never owned an HTC Phone and wish to try out Sense, no reason to be assholes over our curiosity.
I loved sense on my Incredible 2. Sure it wasn't as good as aosp in many ways, but I always kept a sense 3.5 backup on my SD card.

If the thread is a repost than by all means point them towards the original one and report it so we can clean it up. But, flaming someone for talking about porting a ROM is completely out of line. It doesn't matter if they want to port the software from a speak & spell, either contribute something to the conversation or keep your thoughts to yourself.
Helloo firedns,
Im planing to buy the Note2 but as is know, amazing device always has disadventages.
So, i want to know if the Note 2 has:
1. Simultaneous HD video and image recording
2. Smart alert.
I can't find it.. so i ask you
and one more, do you think there will be alot of people with the Note2? Because im coming from the HTC desire and i have developed there nice roms but there weren't people so i stopped, and i want to develope for people so i want to know if there are alot with the Note 2

I think it will be very popular, much like the SGS3. Also, I think the target audience will be more hardcore users that know what they want in their phone and know about the advantages of custom roms. A lot of casual users that don't keep up with tech probably already just went ahead and got the SGS3, not knowing that this beast of a phone would be coming out later in the year.
The reason I didn't get the SGS3 was because I think HTC actually out-engineered Samsung with the HTC One X, but they didn't have a removable battery or SD-card in their phone. I think the Note II will clearly be the best device for at least half a year down the road.

It has both. I assume by #1, you mean 'can you shoot a picture while recording video'.
They are both in the user manual.
From what I can tell, the Note 2 has every single software feature the S3 has. Which makes sense.

Don't worry about anything chris198810 says, he's just a spammer looking to drive people to a ****ty spamming blog. He's only made 12 posts; all of which needlessly shoe-horned video conversion into the thread and almost all of which mentioned or linked to that same blog. The blog itself is just advertising for a 'Brorsoft' video converter app that looks like a scam and the final giveaway is that both the blog and his comments here talk about issues with video playback on a phone that hasn't actually been released yet.
This is a respectful moan....
How come on the Nexus forums all the roms are the same????
Now let me get one thing cleared up first, I am not a developer, I have rudimentary knowledge and know enough to get by and install the mods on this forum. I am not aiming this at any developer in particular and I am very grateful to those who spend their time making these Roms and for that I thank you.
But with other phones Ive owned (Sony, HTC and Samsung) the forums are filled with stock roms + AOSP / AOKP and MIUI, Gaming Roms, Light roms, Various ports of Sense, Xperia or Touchwiz and thats what I like to have on my device.
Here on our forums are 10 shades of the same look, and im just wondering why? how? Just pure coincidence? Is it because a Nexus device is similar to AOSP by default??
I like my nexus and I love the forum are the hard workers making these free roms but I switched to a Nexus phone and tab because they are developers phones, easy to hack etc but it seems that the creativity on this part of XDA is stunted somehow, Phones that are harder to hack like for example the HTC Desire HD have way more variety like the challenge is worth seeing how much stuff can be ported.
This is not a ***** and is not intended to offend those who work hard on this forum but just food for thought, what are your experiences / thoughts?

Well yes and no....
I bought the Nexus because on most of my phones i ended up running AOSP eventually so this was a logical purchase but i also ran MIUI for such a long time and miss it tbh.
It would be fair to say a segment of Nexus owners buy for the AOSP feel but not all and only, most don't know what they are buying / getting into or some don't see the whole picture (like me)
Cheers

Miui? With all xda, and all the devices, you people keep asking for bloated ****, senses and what not. Tsk. Rather use B2G or Flyme.

Oh yes how witty of you to jump to the exulted persona of some one who uttered "port it yourself"
I was simply asking for opinions and insights as to why their is less variety on a device that is meant to be modified, as such a visitor to a town comments on what is different in this locale.
Lets apply your logic to a food critic who comments that the food was missing X, Y and Z, by your logic the restaurant in question should say
"you want X? Cook it yourself"
You have misread my intentions in your rush to be oh so common internet troll
And some bloatware is nice, i particular enjoy MIUI because it is aesthetically pleasing despite the fact I turn most features off.
Thank you for your input, Im sure all the developers on this forum feel safe from evil doers like me with you to back them up
I have the same feeling m8, but maybe this is happening because 4.2.1 has lots of bugs and maybe dev's are waiting for google to clean the mess.
I also came from S2 where we had lots of aokp based roms, really, those were my favourite, here I can barely see aokp roms or cm10 based ones.
I havn't bought my Nexus ONLY to try aosp rom's like other said, that makes no sense.
I'm really thankful to dev's that "invest" their time in this community, which is great, and I'm not moaning, it's just like an observation.
And btw, personal opinions matter, that's why this community exists and develops itself, cuz we all have an opinion.

Although I haven't noticed such a thing before, I found that your observation is true
Personally, I had my S II and started trying ROMs then could not be satisfied on a ROM choice until I could cook my own ROM Afterwards I switched to GNex and I am following the same way of making my own ROM which I really enjoy a lot more on GNex because I am building from source not just modifying Samsung's ROMs as with S II
So basically I feel that this device is intended more for those who like pure experience, but still in the "Themes and Apps" section there are some ports like S III TouchWiz so probably after reaching a good level of such porting then someone may start implementing it in a ROM thus we have a new ROM style? I hope so

If thats true, than thats a bit of a bummer, and Exactly what this thread was aimed at finding out, if our Gnex is difficult to code for despite being easy to unlock then thats a perfectly acceptable excuse for the lack of variety, thank you

I spend a lot of time in the themes and apps section for that sole purpose as well not to mention spending countless $$ of new launchers just to change the feel. Its a vicious cycle, we have been given the ability to change android how we want and for most of is, it isnt good enough we want more.
Honestly, I think the "lack of variety" (quoted because some agree and some don't) is due to the hardware. If the Gnex had the same processor as some of the other flagships, porting wouldn't be as difficult, or same camera sensor, etc. When everything is different, that makes porting just a ton harder than it already is. Just my 2¢, but hey, what do I know? But the OP has a point, there's CM, AOKP, PA, CNA, and stock. Everything else seems to be a derivative of that, with CNA literally being a conglomeration of the first two. To each his own.

Well having an open source hardware with all the binaries available seems to be the curse of gnex now, with many of the OEM phone dev's tirelessly working to remake binaries for closed hardware , here we have a completely open device with nothing more then AOSP ! .I'm up for asop as the next person in this forum but how about some innovations that can compete with OEM and eventually be part of android by default ?
As my previous poster says there's AOSP which is same as stock minus the gaaps then there is CM made from AOSP which is the most innovative followed/mirrored closely by aokp and then we have there derivatives with PA being a derivative of CM and CNA being the derivative of both CM and AOKP,
we have a ton of rom's but they are all twins of one another with AOSP being the eldest
Just my thoughts :highfive:

There's a few others that pop up and down (like BAMF) which are their own flavours and dependent sometimes on exactly which GNex you have. I've occasionally seen links to others that the devs seem to have a personal issue with being mentioned on xda -- and so they're out there but I honestly have no idea where else to look.

A restaurant is a business, which exists to make money... the logic of your "rebuttal" implies that rom developers do what they do for the purpose of making a profit, which isn't the case.
This forum isn't a diner where you can complain that your eggs aren't cooked right... everything that's here (roms/themes/mods/etc...) is here because someone devoted their free time and efforts.
If the lack of sense/touchwiz/whatever roms is such a big deal... maybe you should have done your research before buying it.

I'm pretty sure a lot of restaurants, especially ones good enough to be critiqued, start their business for the pure joy of their trade. So your argument is invalid.
Food is supposed to be prepared the way you order it. Much in the same way that you look thru the "menu" of xda (ROM features) before you order (download/install). If something is wrong with it (GPS borked, camera fc etc) anyone will send it back to the chef. So again, your argument is invalid.

You don't "order" a ROM. You either use it or don't. Nobody is forcing you to use a ROM, if you don't like it then you make your own.
Nobody cares if arguments are "invalid" in your opinion. You don't have one bit of authority to back it up.
I was so beyond elated when I got my Galaxy Note 8 (N5110) last night... couldn't want to flash this puppy and ROM it with some Cyanogen loveliness; but to my incredible surprise, I can't find any custom ROMs that don't have the Touch Wiz crap on it. WTH? This tablet was highly rated and I know it's not abscure so I'm wondering why there's so little development on this little wonderous machine. Ideas? Links that I've missed? Winning lottery numbers? All are welcome.
instead of asking what are others plan on doibg for your tablet wouldn't it be morw productive to ask and learn how to do it yourself?
it seems rather rude to ask for someone else to donate their free time with no compensation.

There's already a few threads like this, so not sure there's a point to another one. Either way, there is CivX custom rom and kernel, but yes it's based on stock TW. Emwno is working on a cm10.1 port too, and beanstown was supposed to develop a custom rom but that has now been delayed. Hopefully he will do it though at some point in the future. Aside from that not many devs seem to have the device which is a shame because the Note 8 rocks.
nothing more annoying on XDA then someone complaining about the lack of free software...quick whining, and learn how to do it yourself, so you can spend endless hours of YOUR personal life creating something that people can post complaints about, request things that you dont put in the rom, and just generally expect you to spend all of your free time upgrading, and improving for them every time they want something..
I agree with you it does rock. Just xame from a Lenovo A2109 where there was a LARGE dev community but no support for Mac users. Thought for sure there would be a crap load of devs here given the Samsung brand and its answer to the iPad mini. Personally, I think its much getter then the mini even though I'm a Mac girl... note: not an Apple fangirl... just a best in class user.
Anyway, thanks for telling me what to look for and which developers to keep and eye out for. Its painful to read post after post and subsequently page after page trying to find answers to my questions. I do appreciate it.

For every ROM that has worked for me, I have donated monetarily. For one device, I actually BOUGHT a unit for development. I've been on this board for several years and have never asked for anything except answers to my questions.
Second of all, I'm a web designer/developer who donates LOTS of time to those who don't know or ask for help. I don't ask for compensation; I ask for them to carry the info forward. It seems rather rude for you to assume and judge rather then ask.

"puzzlement"? what are you puzzled about?
You've been a member here for SIX years; you know where the dev section is in this thread; the roms that are there are what we have at this point..
dont try to "veil" your complaint about so "little development" by saying you weren't complaining, just "asking a question"
We lose enough fantastic developers here when people start threads like this, so please don't encourage the few folks that are dev'ing for this device to leave as well..
end of discussion
Gentlemen please stop making personal attacks.
I am sure she knows where is the place to find a custom rom although she doesn't mean this.
So if there is nothing constructive to add in this thread then just don't post.
Thank you.

maybe I just misread your enthusiasm for the new tablet as cracking the whip on those hard working guys who do what thwy do and ask for norhing back. so If I mistook you excitement as a demand then I apologize.
the gnote 10.1 took a good while to get some dev work on it. for a good while all we had was root, which really wasn't bad at all. It's still not as active as say the s4 or gn2 development, but it still looks like qualiry work. I'd suppose it wouldn't be too hard to port a rom over, but then again what do I know, I ain't no dev.

I was under the impression you have to keep a lot of the Touch Wiz to keep the pen enabled. Otherwise it's just a generic 8" android tablet.
Thank you... I appreciate that; very much.

maybe I just misread your enthusiasm for the new tablet as cracking the whip on those hard working guys who do what thwy do and ask for norhing back. so If I mistook you excitement as a demand then I apologize.

I was very pleased that rooting was so easy. I had to unlock the bootloader in the HTC was a flippin' pain in the arse so I was THRILLED to learn we didn't have to do that on the Samsung. So, clearly I'm very glad to have root... and have deleted a lot of the Samsung crapware as I'm sure most of us have as well. Though I do have to ask... what is a "gnote"? I had a GTab once which was actually the Viewsonic GTablet. However, I've never heard of the GNote...
I'm not a software/hardware dev either... just web... and so wish I had time to learn. I'd be all over it like a gnat on poop!

Isn't the Touch Wiz on regular non-Note Samsung devices? For example the Galaxy II & III phones? Though I am just guessing as this is my first Samsung Android device.
*smile* Thank you. However, I am a she.

Gentlemen please stop making personal attacks.
I am sure he knows where is the place to find a custom rom although he doesn't mean this.
So if there is nothing constructive to add in this thread then just don't post.
Thank you.

yep, pretty much all samsung devices, except for the nexuses and the s4 developer ed have touch wiz. the big downside of using cm or aokp is that you'll lose pressure sensitivity with your pen (or at least that's how it was a few months ago and i haven't really check up on it).
I think its fine the way it is....

Hey guys,
I made the decision to jump ship on my contract for an s4 and..well, you know, signal..in some places at least. Sprint said Hey, your phone is melting because of our update have fun for a year. SO, i paid them out and bought the awesome phone this section of XDA is devoted to on T-mobile.
So i have a few questions for you guys about the phone, it gets here tomorrow and im excited but i wanna clear up some of the bad things i have heard.
1. Ive seen reviews stating the phone had or has lag. Is this true? Freaking 1.9 quad and 2g of ram and the phone has lag somewhere??
----EDIT: Also, alot of people are downtalking the battery life, can that really be just a tad better than the S3? ive gotten mixed answers on this one, some people say "it lasts for YEARS" and some say "its just a LITTLE better" and some say "Man thats one crappy battery" what do you all think?------
2. All those gimmicky features, do you use them? (speaking of airview, all the motion stuff, and the new camera modes) I am actually fairly excited about all of those but people keep downtalking them.
3. Hows the phones camera do in low light? is it really all that bad?
4. How is yalls experience with roms? never had a samsung device, know about multiview. Is there a way to get multiview on NOT touchwiz? not that i mind, i just wanna know if the option is there .
5. What else do you all like about the phone?
1. There is always lag on TouchWiz based phones simply because TouchWiz requires more memory and whatnot to run. There isn't that bad of a lag if you configure your device correctly. Mine has almost no lag.
2. I use most of them, they're useful and well, it's always cool to have features other people don't.
3. It's not that bad but it's not amazing. It's decent.
4. ROMs are great, our devs are awesome. Great thing about this device is you can flash ROMs from other variants. (AT&T, 9505, etc.) NOT 9500. And not really, that is a TouchWiz only feature. There are some things sort of like it, but it's not true Multi-view.
5. It sings me to sleep at night.

Nice to hear someone enjoying the motion features and such i was excited and im glad to hear they arent just something to show off and never touch again. I figured multiview would be like that, its like sense widgets :/ thats alright though multiview is something i see myself using alot.
What do you get out of the battery? Dont mean to tie you down with questions haha, i think this is my first top of the line phone so i am way over excited. the evo lte i got into late, right as the s3 and note were about to come out, and they passed it in like a day in awesomeness, so finally getting my hands on an S device is just way cool to me.
