MMS, data, voice all work fine. I can receive SMS. SMS was working before. This problem occurred after I flashed a custom ROM and then restored the backup from CWM. My Nexus is on Straight Talk using stock rooted ROM.

Try changing the SMSC (SMS Centre) number.
You need to dial
*#*#4636#*#*
and select the first option.
Telekom (GER) offers a service to setup everything for you.
Had the same issue before.

How do I find/ what is my smsc number?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Getting the real SMSC for android is a bit tricky
1.) Find the SMS centre number of your carrier (e.g. for t-mobile DE -> +49 171 076 0000)
2.) go to http://twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
3.) Enter the SMS centre number in the field "SMSC" and clear receiver and the message "How are you?"
4.) Click on "Convert"
5.) On the right side you'll see something like (in my example)
0791947101670000110000910000AA00
the first two digits show you the length. (7)
6.) 7x2+2 = 16 (+2 cause of the length needed[?]); Mark 16 digits from the start of the number. (here 0791947101670000) Thats your SMSC Number.
Go back to
*#*#4636#*#*
first option, scroll down to "SMSC" and enter your SMSC, click the button directly next to the input field.
Leave this screen and go back to it. Scroll down to the SMSC section and click the right button. (if everything is correct, you should now see the correct SMSC number instead of "00")
If you need further help, feel free to send me a PM.
Thanks a lot. That link is dead but I found a post with the number:
07913121139418F0 which worked for an ATnT customer and now it's working. I'm about to search for another udp encoder so I can use the proper straight talk smsc. Much appreciated!

DUDE!!!! Double thanks for posting this question and SMSC number. I am on Straight Talk and had somehow got my SMSC wiped. Its been a week raising hell with ST when I read something about the no SMS and their SMSC reading as 00. Checked mine and sure enough 00. Thanks again.

NO KIDDING! I was having the same problem, and now it's fixed, thanks to you guys! ST is not very helpful over the phone, however I have found they have much better customer service over facebook.
I tried using the number in this thread and the att number and I still cannot send messages. When I refresh the smsc number after entering the att number, I get the same number with an extra 0 at the end. I know why it was wiped, I just cannot get it back. No matter which number I try, I still get a message not sent error

I hope you got this sorted. But it needs to be said your SMSC number is carrier specific. My carrier is Straight Talk specifically but I am using the At&t MVNO not the T-mobile. Since my service is through At&t's network, I'm using At&t's SMSC number. You will need to find or decipher your carriers SMSC.

I ended up getting it. My code was exactly the same but when I tried it, I did not capitalize the letter and it would not work. As soon as I did, it worked so all is well

Hello forum
I’m having issues retrieving voice mail by pressing the relevant button 1.
Each time press 1 for voice mail I get a warning tone saying “Calls to this number are bard” the only way to retrieve voicemail is to dial 222 via the service provider’s options.
I’ve been in contact with my network provider and have had the voice mail set up but I still can’t access voice mail. Can some one help please?
Hi, I really dont know much about your network, but in order for dialing "1" to access my voicemail to work, I had to enter my voicemail number under 1 in speed dial.
Im not sure if you have already done that, or if youre running an oem rom, you may not have to, is it dialing the correct number, when you press "1"?
Also under "settings" / "phone" / "services" tab, you can select to retrieve voicemail, and txt settings....not sure of that may help either.
Sorry if you have already covered this, I just know its easy to overlook things at times, and thought I might suggest it, hope you get your problem sorted.
call to this number are bard.
Thanks for the advice; I’ve actually tried that method the first time I was in contact with service provider T-mobile and it didn’t work. T -mobile push the problem to HTC as the manufacture of the unit. I was in contact with HTC, but the very nice and helpful tech support lady concluded its t-mobile problem. Currently stuck in between.
I'm experiencing the same thing. You can run the programe called "Interactive". Select voice service then call voicemail. A message will ask you if you want to call voicemail, tap yes and it calls. It's an around the house way of doing it, but i know of no other solution right now.
BTW i have a vario III on t-mobile.
Ok i think i've worked it out I was having the same problem.
As from the previous post....when in phone select/ "Menu"/ "Options" in "settings" you'll see a "services" tab, select that then you can select to retrieve voicemail, and txt settings.
Check the voicemail number...I notice that the phone or t-mobile added 050 to the number. If you have something similar you need to remove it. You voicemail number should be you number with +44 at the start, with the first "0" removed and the rest of your number. Eg if your number was:
07951123456
its should read +447951123456
I did this and it works fine.If it works for you maybe you could pass the information onto on to T-mobile.
Hope that helps.

Where did you get the device?? What ROM is it running? pretty sure the 050 might have been added by the ROM or national on the OS. The network should report the full international number (ie the +44xxxxxxxxxxx number).
he is right

I bought it off Ebay. It's running wm6.1, i'm sure it said in the description that it was a HTC Rom, could be wrong ( HTC website is the default site in IE )...but the inital problem is easily sortable.
ps. +44 is the code for the uk, other countries would have different codes, so remember to take that into consideration.

A thanks guy the directions has resolved the issue and I can now dial number one on hemers to retrieve voice mail. As you quite rightly said three digits added in the set of numbers for the voice mail (060) This is what I did START =>SETTINGS=>PHONE=>SERVICES=> high light VOICE MAIL AND TEXT MESSAGE=> click GET SETTINGS=> check the voice mail numbers for any unusual among the set of voice mail numbers.
I'm noticing 3 strange things:
1) when I go to Settings > About Phone > Phone Identity, my "Phone Number" field shows a different number then mine. They're both in the same area code but it's not mine. I can't edit this.
2) In the Settings > Call > Voicemail Settings, that same wrong phone number shows up. This one I can edit but even then it leads to #3.
3) The voicemail dials the wrong number listed even though I changed the voicemail number. I also receive from time a popup saying that voicemail activation was delayed (or something to that effect). When I do receive voicemails, I receive a text message asking to call a number to retrieve it. Doing so prompts me to enable the service if my phone doesn't have voicemail or something like that. Turned it on and now I can get my voicemail by calling that number.
I should also state that this very same problem happened when I originally got my Evo and I spent about 2-3 hours at the Sprint store talking to one of their tech support on the phone to fix it. But I don't recall having to do anything on my end; it was all the tech supports doing but don't know what.
This has now happened since I rooted and flashed Fresh Evo 3.3. I'm guessing the wiping data/cache removed something that had been fixed?
Hope someone can give me a hand. It'd be much appreciated else I gotta go back and spend 2-3 hours with tech support again. :/
Get your MSL using the MSL tool in the market.
go to the dialer and do a ##786#, do a factory reset(what ever its called in there), its going to ask you for your password, put in the MSL. The phone will do a complete data wipe and reboot. On reboot it will do a complete provision with Sprint.
May work, may not. If not, back to Sprint store.

[EDIT: I just figured it out. Hit Menu and then Reset at which point it prompts for the MSL code]
Got the MSL, went to phone and dialed ##786# at which point it says "Retrieving Settings" and brings up the "Reverse Logistics Support" screen. Is this the screen you were referring to? I ask because it did not ask for the MSL password nor did a wipe. Of interest though, I do see an entry for Mobile Number and another one that looks like a cell number but is different then the other; the field is called MSID.

Your MSID can be a totally different number than your cell number, mine is. Mine ended up this way when i ported my number off ATT and it has been this way through 4 different phones.
Just the wipe and it went through hands free activation and PRL & Firmware update checks. Unfortunately, the phone identify still shows the wrong number.
So... guess it's of to sprint store?

Why I wonder if this is not as a result of porting from AT&T as well. Man I really wish I knew what that tech support had done to resolve the issue.
Hi guys this is a simple request for a configuration number. I've been having an issue with sms, the thing is that I can receive and make calls without problems, even I can recive sms's but I can't send any sms I always get an error saying "Cannot send sms" I think it is related to the "SMS Centre Number" wich is automatically given in the messaging app, I remember that I used to have a number in that menu but now I only have "00", it is under "Messaging/Settings/Advanced Settings/SMS Centre Number" If anyone can share your sms centre number we can build a data base for further problems we might have with it.
The number I need is the one for Mexico's Telcel carrier (I really dont know if it is a generic number or if there is centralized server that gives you your carrier's sms centre number)
I have not been messing with Base Band (Radio), I still have the one that came with my phone, also I'm using franco kernel milestone 4.
Thanks in advance, I hope you can help me out guys.

No such option in my ROM. Looks like a MIUI related issue. You should try a different ROM.

Hi all. I'm unable to send international SMS from my GNexus. My carrier says my settings are fine and no blocks against my account. Funny thing is that when I use the same sim card in a blackberry I can send international messages fine. The carrier did suggest I enter SMSC settings but the guide they gave me doesn't correspond with the GNexus menus. Can anyone help?

At the risk of stating the obvious, check that you have the correct number. Make sure you dial the "+", then the two digit country code, then the local number (usually without the 0 at the beginning.)
Can you receive international SMS? If so, reply to the same number.
I have a Verizon Note 4 (N910V) that I had unlocked a few weeks ago and am using it on T-Mobile. I'm having a few problems that are REALLY annoying.
1) I can not use the dialpad while in a call. For example, "Press 1 for English" I hit 1 and it does nothing. I've tried all the numbers with different 1-800 numbers and it just does not work.
2) My voicemail does not work. When I press 1 for voicemail, I get an error. I tried calling my number, but to enter my pin I need the dialpad to work. I tried YouMail, but that didn't work either. I never originally setup my T-Mobile voicemail so that could be why YouMail isn't working though.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out trying to google these problems.
On the voicemail tip, you need to change the voicemail number setting... Theres already a threead for how to do this..

Thank you for the help. Your link actually fixed my dial pad while in calls. It suggested to change the DTMF to long instead of short and it now works. As for the voicemail thing, I got it to work sort of. If I dial 123, it works just fine now. The only thing is, I can't seem to change the speed dial of 1 to the number 123. I tried and it said it was changed, but it still shows *86. I tried a few times with the same results each time. Is there another step I'm missing?
I haven't had to do this kind of thing to any of my phones in years. I wish I could help better. I just happened to remember changing APN settings was necessary and found that thread.
Awesome that fixed the touchscreen issue too!
i can not change that number
@GamerGuy89: how can you make Verizon Note 4 work with T-mobile?
i put the T-mobile simcard on it and it say "Not verizon Simcard". Signal is 0. Please help me!
And even i add another APN, but i can not change the number of voice mail from *86 to 123.
Thank you so much.
hi all.
i don't know why after updated to 5.0.1, i can not type *#06# to check my IMEI. When i key in that code on my keypad, the phone still there, nothing pop-up.
did my phone failed Rom or system???
Any input will be appreciated!
Thanks
