I was told to do a *22899. It made my PRL change to 52xxx and signal was alright but then I heard they were only 3G. So the only way i can get back to the 15xxx PRL was to get a New SIM from VZW. It was free and I just wanted to do a Signal Test to report back here.
These 2 screen shots were taken from the same location outside of the VZW Store-

New SIM PRL 15119
Im running the OTA 4.0.4 Radios.
The only way the new SIM will accept is to start fresh.
-If running a Custom ROM, Wipe Data, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Flash Rom, Flash GApps, reboot and sign in-
-if running Stock, Factory data reset.
No More dialing *22899, it wont update the 4G while on a 52xxx PRL-
Bummer. Yeah, don't do 2289. Went through this a few months ago.
tell me bout it, got the wrong info from VZW and online. oh well, i got a signal boost out of it-

PRL's are different # across the US
The 22899 trick works on devices like this if you assign the number to a saved contact (mine is called "vzw") and initiate a call to the contact (nothing new in this)... A VzW customer care rep had me do this, not knowing that it's not intended to refresh the PRL on LTE devices.
Anyway - I must have played with this about a dozen times. Works just fine, no issues, no "fried SIM" - my understanding is that this isn't an issue any longer. HOWEVER... updating your PRL this way DOES seem to load the 5*... PRL rather than the 1*... that is associated with best roaming towers for LTE devices. Every time I did this, I wound up with a 5*... series PRL as we're seeing in this thread with other folks' experience.
HOWEVER -- I had no reason at all to suspect the SIM was somehow "damaged" and "stuck" with this PRL. The "proper" way to update an LTE SIM with a new PRL is to allow the phone to do it automatically on boot, or way to have it pushed to the phone by the carrier. After "calling" my "vzw" entry I wound up with a 5*... PRL -- so pulled the battery, popped the SIM out for a moment and replaced both it and the battery. Then, before turning it on again, I entertained a bit of superstition and took the phone to a place with a known very strong 4G signal and powered it up there. Within a minute or so after boot, the PRL had changed and now read (and still reads) 15109.
Note: this is AFTER I had called the 22899 number many times and had the 5*... PRL assigned to the phone (SIM?) each time. No damage -- just needed to encourage the phone to reset the PRL properly by itself.

No noticeable difference in signal with either one, although I haven't experimented in any particularly scientific fashion. In general, I get great reception with this phone -- and this didn't seem different when on the 5* PRL...
When I first got my phone, my phone auto dialed *22899. My PRL changed, but it reverted back to the original 15119 after a reboot. Not sure if I should get a new sim card or not. Signal is fine, but I live within view of a tower.
when i got my gnex, the verizon rep told me to never do a *228 on a 4g phone. didn't really explain why though. guess this is why.

At this point I think it's just CSR urban legend. From all we've read and heard, this should no longer be something to worry about.

it is a csr legend im an x employee and still have a gazillian friends there....and i can confirm it, he whole story how it surfaced is long and boring, just dont do *228 because it is worthless
Help me out here, you say the only way back to the old PRL is with a new sim card and factory reset? Why would the new sim not "take" with out restoring the phone?
I have done the manual prl update a few times and gotten a 5xxxx prl. I saw this thread and checked my prl again and it went back to 15xxx on its own? Do I need a new sim card???
I hadn't checked it in a while, but my phone has reverted back to the 15 PRL after using *22899 many times.

So this is something i have tested working myself. I DO NOT recommend this for everyone simply because you can severely mess up your phone and it's wireless connections.
In a nut shell what this allows you to do is utilize your phones built in 3g mobile hot spot and tethering application without paying the extra $20 a month. The legality of this is questionable so use it at your own risk.
What you need:
Samsung drivers(you can find these)
QPST software download it here
1. Install the samsung driver for our phone, as well as the QPST software
2. Place your phone in modem mode(settings, wireless, enable dial up)
3. Plug in your phone and allow all drivers and everything to install.
4. Load up QPST configuration
5. Navigate to the tab that says ports and select "Add New Port"(if all is well you should have one that says something about usb, or anything about your phone)
6. Once the device is added go to the top menu bar, select "Start Clients" and then "Service Programming"
7. Next select "OK" to the device in the box.
Now for the tricky things where you MUST be careful!
8. at the bottom of this box select "Read from Phone"
9. If the password in the box is not "000000"(six zeros) type it in and click OK.
10. You now want to tab over on the top until you see the tab that says "M. IP" select this.
11. Select Profile 0(it will be the very first one on the top) and select "Edit..."
12. You now should Have two input boxes the first one labled "NAI" and the second "Tethered NAI"
13. Under "Tethered NAI" it should say something similar to "[email protected]" (the X's refer to your personal number)
14. You need to edit this so that it no longer has "dun" in it,
"[email protected]"
15. You should now have NAI and Tethered NAI as the same thing. Now click OK and finally "Write to phone"(located in the bottom left). Your phone will reboot its self.
16. Upon first boot you need to go back into settings, wireless, and disable dial up networking. (first time i did this i got a force close with gapps, but did not cause any issues)
If you followed this exactly, you should now have 3g mobile hotspot
I must warn you however, if you reprogram your phone via *228 this will go away! so it will have to be performed again.
Enjoy!
Is this continuum specific? I've guy a buddy with a Samsung showcase that is very interested.
it should be able to work on most phones. I modified this from a samsung fascinate guide and wrote more detailed instructions, however it should work for most android devices.
ah not to rain on your parade but wouldnt it be easier to just use googles wireles tether 3.0 above and select samsung facinate softap mode pretty much anything will pick that up.
Perhaps it would be easier, but it adds extra bloat and just isn't as good as using the original..
Imagine, you want to tether via wireless or wired.. well you simply go into your drawer and select 3g mobile hotspot... So much easier than downloading an app that you are either limited to non secure sights via a wired connection(pda net) or you have to use a tethering app that may or may not work properly, supports only an adhoc connection, has connectivity issues or is just a PITA to setup...
So why not use the app that is already in your app drawer that you can't get away.
Give it time and i'll have a patch for exactly this where you won't even need to perform these steps...
Oh, did i mention i can alter the amount of devices you can have connected at once via 3g wireless hotspot, and my speeds over 3g with my rom are coming in between 0.5MB-3MB per second (as of the tests i've done as of now. I just pulled 1.71mb/sec upload sucks, but i'm not uploading things using it. lol)

man i miss unlimited data lol thats what got me into trouble with sprint i pretty much forced my hero to roam of off verizon because theres a tower literaly half a mile from my house and apparantly using over 500mb of data roaming a day is a big no no lol. long story short they sent a letter and i got da boot. now i just have a dsl connection and the 2gig data plan so my bill is only about 10$ more than on sprint.
the moral of this story is becarefull with this because verizon does know what your doing

The beauty of this modification is that the regular 3g uses the connection of [email protected]... When you connect up the 3g wireless hotspot it sets the connection to [email protected].. This is how they know you have tethering because verizon sets this connection as active. SOOO what this is actually doing is setting the tethering app to utulize the normal 3g connection. SOOO it looks as if you are simply using the normal 3g connection..
Another way to do this is to run the 3g hotspot and have a widget to turn on and off 3g. When you toggle the connection it sets the connection back to the normal 3g even though you have open 3ghotspot Thus allowing tethering.
I am testing this now and i just performed option 2 after *228 and it did not break tethering. In fact i am on it now. Time for option 1 test
The new wireless tether allows regular connections, not just ADHOC
I've done this before, not gonna lie... But I deemed it.... Eh... Not worth it also, a lot of people have issues with dropped signal after doing it But, it is nifty, no doubt I was messing around with qdxm and such since my original enV

I figured as much. Thanks for the speedy reply.
Well I tried this
But for some weird reason every time I trie to mod and restart the phone the parameters return to their original setting, Like I didn't do anything to change it.
Is there something wrong?
I used QPST and if I change the vrzw3g something to anything and restart the phone everything goes back to default...
Thanks for any help.....
If you can't get it working, I honestly wouldn't struggle with it anymore like I said, this is morally grey/illegal, has caused dropped signal for some fascinate users, can be tracked, and has a lot of good alternatives... Wifi tether is my favorite

Anyone else having this issue? I live in an area with good coverage not sure if its the phones radio or not. This isn't an issue with just data either, the entire signal triangle on the nav bar goes blank. This only happens for a few seconds (5-15) at s time, but sometimes happens more often than I'd like.
Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I'm on cm10 euroskank with their kernal, but had had the issue on every rom I've been on, a bit less on this one though. I wasn't really stock for long enough to see if it was an issue, nor did I update any ota's. Was there an ota that fixed radios?
By the way it doesn't seem to be a signal thing, but something with the radio or sim card because it drops from full strength to nothing at all.

I am having a big problem with this (on CM10). Even if the signal meter is full and blue, it's like data isn't flowing when the phone screen is off. I will miss a bunch of notifications until I wake the phone up. Then they come rushing in. I hope this is fixed really soon.
Heres what mine looks like with the blank triangle on cm10. On stock or touchwiz it will be a circle with a line through it like a censor sign. Anyone getting that? Or do i have a bad phone?

This isn't a data drop though, it's the entire mobile network meaning I can't send texts, call, or anything. Has this happened to you?
Not sure if mine is related but I used to get the same thing (network dropping) accompanied by a soft reboot of Touchwiz. This happened on a stock rooted ROM with stock kernel.
Since I've switched to KT747 for Sammy kernel I think the issue has gone away or I just haven't seen it yet. I flashed to KT747 approx 5 days ago.

I have been having the same problems to, no solution yet. I was on stock for a while before I rooted it. I had full 4g before I rooted the phone, then right after I rooted I started having problems the same as described here. I tried several different ROMs, and thinking it was an APN issue I tried several settings there. I haven’t been able to find anything yet, still searching and hoping for a solution.

I decided to flash back to stock before bringing it in to at&t and it has been happening less often. Did any of the OTA's effect signal or radio? I rooted basically right after I got it and flashed the ota killer, so i'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.
I'll keep you updated though.
edit: Spoke to soon, going to get a new phone tomorrow.

quick google search came back with some people complaing that's it's sprint issue while updating towers. new to sprint in chicago where lte is being rolled out, so that can be it.

So you guys don't think it's a problem with the Google Voice/Sprint integration?
Same issue (no calls in). Seattle wa.
The only time i have issues with Google voice is when i have a spotty internet connection but i am sure you guys would have realized that by now. The only issue i ever have is in messaging it queues the message instead of sending but again i attribute that to data connection

I think it's fixed. I don't talk on the phone much anyways. I called Sprint multiple times. They said one tower among the like 5 in my area was down for maintenance and that most towers were over loaded in my area. (I live right next to a major state college). This happened right after hurricane Sandy came through which didn't do any major damage here.
After the Sprint tech confirmed I wasn't receiving calls she noted it in my account and offered to credit my account if I keep track of how many days it wouldn't work.
I'll test when my wife gets home from work in a hour.

This is definitely a problem with sprint/google voice and it doesn't matter what phone you have. I had this issue when they first started the Sprint/GV integration and after browing the official sprint forums I found that it was the problem. Once I removed the GV integration all the issues went away. Another reason I removed it was because I would be on the phone and would get disconnected after 30 minutes exactly every time. I was using a Evo shift then, and then moved to the Motorola Photon and it happened on both of them.

The best advice for anyone using the Sprint/GV integration is to just drop it because it's just gonna be more of a problem than it's worth. Most of the time you won't even know you missed a call or text until someone tells you.

Click on the “Ports” tab and “Add a new port”
Select the “COMXX – USB\QC Diagnostic” and click ok(mine for example is com3), your port number will be different, if you see more than one it has been instructed to disconnect all your external devices such as external HDDs, phones, Bluetooth dongles, ect @whatever carrier.com blah blah. Therefore, you should know which one is your E4GT. If you still don't see a port uncheck the box for "Show Serial and USB/QC Diagnostic ports only" (doing just this is what i had to do) and add all of the USB/Unknown ports. Now if your phone is not showing a connection, you have a bad cable, or bad micro usb 2.0 port on your phone.
Click “Start Clients” on the top of the program and open Service programming or just exit out of it all and from start menu open ""Service Programming."
Now to continue
If you already have a page plus account and you know your min and mdn than your good..... if u want u could go ahead and dial *22890 and activate your phone if u want.... but u will only have talk and text ( no MMS or data) if you do this all you have to do is pull the ha and aa keys from a donor phone ON VERIZON ONLY to get your mms and 3g working.
Now you will ned to pull ha and aaa keys using CDMA WS or DFS
Sometimes you may need to write the keys to your E4GT using CDMA WS or DFS. CDMA WS is a paid program so i don't use it as it is very expensive for a college student. You can use a Demo DFS from cdmatool.com
If you are on el26 or el29 u can get APN backup and restore and use it to delete apns and mod them with Verizon settings.... if needed just gtalk me(if u pm me on here I'm not sure when I'll get back to u). If on ICS then u will needs hiapn global which has to be moved to be a system app then when u start it it'll say to make it a system app..... and u just have to be patient and maybe even restart your phone to get it to work... (yes its annoying but it does eventually work). I keep my vzw APN backed up cuz when I flash a ROM my MmSC URL always changes to sprint....
Now anyway..... after you plug up the epic 4g touch to the PC and gt it to connect to QPST write to phone the THIS FILE HERE ----->http://https://www.dropbox.com/s/fybngoqwldtrfuq/FlashYourE4GT.qcn
You will then need to input your MIN and MDN into that file where they belong and under the M.I.P. profiles tab input the HA and AAA keys in each profile with both enabled and HA and AAA keys are HEX values.... if you input "vzw" for HA and AAA values than you will have only 1x data, you will need a donor phone or someone to give you HA and AAA keys from a working vzw 3g device to gain 3g.
You will also need a PRL that is not Sprint PCS
In QPST, go to roam tab, open up one of these files and they will work for you
00002 PRL https://www.dropbox.com/s/atzs7d6aft6j0bd/00002.prl
For obtaining functioning MMS
To get mms working you can go easy way download Go SMS Pro app and under settings, advanced, mmsc url, do a custom mmsc url and input this -->http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=**********
(the stars being your cell number)
Another way is to download an app called HiAPNglobal, use a root explorer to move it to system app, let it install itself as a system app and reboot phone(this app is annoying) and then when open hit backup apns.... now navigate in file explorer to hidroid.net folder and read contents of apnbackuplist.xml and change the contents to the following
I also have a flashable zip here, confirmed only working on AOSP JB roms to fix both GPS and MMS
Lost this file somehow, will make another one eventually
This is my data speeds flashed... this is verizon towers 3g

Man I hate LG. I had so many env1 and env2s...... env3s couldn't be on prepaid and at that time I knew nothing about forcing it myself to be on prepaid.... so I had to sell my env3 but every lg past the env1 was junk

It is junk IMO. But I'm not going to complain about a free phone when I'm not paying the bill.

Yes u can use a LG Env it's a 3G phone so u will be good to go U can pull the files u need to get 3g working since its a 3g phone
If you copy a Verizon DMU file to the phone file system you don't need a donor phone for 3g.
Nice hack. Then use a 4G service like freedompop.com for 4g.

Cloning is illegal.
You will get caught.
Ting supports a few of bring you own devices from sprint (in beta stage) soon to roll out to everyone. Epic touch 4g is one of them they can bring over from sprint, without doing any "difficult" programming. As long as you have your msl, you can do it.
Pay as you go, and you get credited next month for what you don't use.

Cloning is not illegal in itself. As long as you pay for the service you use, it's perfectly legal. Why else are there all these public guides available to clone your phone to another carrier? I've been using my Sprint phone on Virgin for 6 months with no issue (cloned). It's going to be easier to get a sprint phone on another sprint owned prepaid (virgin, boost) though.

color me confused.
The straight talk kiosk i walk past everyday on my way to work explicitly states that you need a gsm phone (att or tmo compatible).
Is page plus the same carrier under a different name? how are these two related?
I would to pay $45/mo for straight talk service, but was under the impression that this isnt possible with the e4gt

Page plus is a prepaid company that buys usage of verizon towers in bulk(think Walmart) to sell to others at cheaper prices. And straight talk has gsm phones that run at&t towers (which u can't flash an e4gt to) ... who would want to do that!? At&t only works in big cities..... and some CDMA straight talk devices run on sprint towers but most st CDMA devices run on verizons(which has signal almost everywhere)...

Can Straight Talk be used on the Epic 4G Touch or not? I have a Samsung Galaxy Precedent (straight talk) I might be able to use as a donor if so.

Yes it can and yeah. I'd just pull everything from the precedent and put it on the e4gt

Access to VZ 3g and sprint wimax if flashed to page plus?
Hello everyone,
Since 2 days now, my 4G/LTE/EDGE symbols have been constantly appearing and dissapearing. I am in the NF1 firmware and rooted. It was working great but now it is like goin on/off like every 5 seconds. I think my data got blocked by T-Mobile but I'm really not sure.
You can see the video I recorded about the issue here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Vy0A4LQD_E
Anyone had this happened to them before?

That's not normal, Never ran nf1 myself went straight to nf4. NF4 is basically a fix for issues that occurred with NF1, maybe update

It was working fine for one week, but I think they blocked my access to it. I'm trying to communicate and check what is the problem.
Phone calls and messages works great however, is only the data that is not working.

You think you went over your allotted data limit? If that was so then the symbol would switch to 4G instead of 4Glte, Maybe you are right that you've passed your limit and maybe you should check settings/more networks/mobile networks and ensure that network mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM and check that mobile data is enabled.........and my last guess could be that maybe your sim is loose or failing?

I think it is a bug in the system. I used 2056.47GB according to the My T-Mobile website (tethering non stop), but on the use tab it tells me I used 2048GB of Unlimited. Maybe that stopped my data. I guess on the 17th it will reset and I'll have internet again since calls and messages works correctly. Also, there's no alert on my account and neither a message sent, so my guess is their system just limit the data to 2048GB somehow.
2 terabyte wow. I use net10 on att towers and have massive data connection issues as of the past 2 days and i just put a new monthly on it.
note 3 4.4.2 stock rooted N900T

I called them and they said the data was not blocked and that it was not possible to block because it is unlimited, which I think is clearly a system bug or a hard or soft limit of 2048GB
I find it really hard to believe that you managed to use 2TB of data, even if you're tethering. I'm not saying you're lieing, but I think there's something wrong on the backend here that's not reporting appropriately.
There's obviously some kind of issue occuring when you authenticate on the T-Mobile network. My suggestion is either ODIN the phone back to stock and try again, or go into a Store and see if they can tell you anything about your account that's throwing flags at them.
I hope they did block you.

Yeah I think they did that throttling thing because of me
Well, I'm hoping the 17th I get the internet again, of course more carefully. I was just looking at the "how much unlimited data means" limit and I seem to have found it.
If not, the reps said it could be the SIM Card and I have to go to the store then.

How can you even call TMO with a straight face? 2 TB is abusing it, dude.
Can you try a few things?
1) Turn the phone off then back on see how long you have data for.
2) Force the data band of the phone and see how long data works for.
3) Put your SIM into a different device and see how long you have data for.
And of course if you can try all these things on a few different towers just to be sure.
Also can you try cooking an egg on your phone? That thing must be running pretty HOT.

All of that was what the reps said me to do, but data doesn't work.
Here is the bug I suspect, which makes me believe data is turned off at 2048GB:
In this image, the data reported 2048GB, but it let me use a little more. It just stayed at 2048GB

Here you can see that it is reporting what I really used before data was turned off:
I know I may have abused but still they didn't really said nothing about it, and they said blocking can't be done on the phone call. They said to visit the store for a phone/SIM checkup.
You can try to reset your NV values and modem. Below is a link to the thread with instructions.

I have just confirmed myself that this is indeed a system limitation by T-Mobile. Today my cycle reset and I got my data back.
So, in conclusion, T-Mobile unlimited plan indeed have the 2048GB limit.
I hope people aren't complaining about a 2 terabytes limit. I felt like I was abusing when going through 10 gigs a month.

OMG...2TB of mobile data, that's insane!! Even I have The 105Mbps Comcast plan and I can only manage to use 170GB a month(streaming Netflix and downloading torrents everyday)
