Sprint/Google Voice calls not coming through - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Has anyone had a problem with incoming calls not coming through? It doesn't happen all the time - just intermittently. I'll get a "missed call" in Google Voice but my phone doesn't ring.

have the same issue. what rom/baseband do you hae. i have the l710vpl13 and am using the freegs3v0.2.0 rom.

I'm on FreeGS3 v1.0.0 with baseband L710VPBLJ7.

quick google search came back with some people complaing that's it's sprint issue while updating towers. new to sprint in chicago where lte is being rolled out, so that can be it.

My wife is having the same issue w/ not receiving calls and sms messages but I am not.
We live in Southeast Texas so I doubt network expansion in Chicago would have any direct affect down here.

I'm in Los Angeles.

I've had that issue in VA.

HAD? did the problem go away? or did you do something?

I reliably get calls but not texts. I am in North Texas(Dallas).

So you guys don't think it's a problem with the Google Voice/Sprint integration?

Same issue (no calls in). Seattle wa.

The only time i have issues with Google voice is when i have a spotty internet connection but i am sure you guys would have realized that by now. The only issue i ever have is in messaging it queues the message instead of sending but again i attribute that to data connection

I think it's fixed. I don't talk on the phone much anyways. I called Sprint multiple times. They said one tower among the like 5 in my area was down for maintenance and that most towers were over loaded in my area. (I live right next to a major state college). This happened right after hurricane Sandy came through which didn't do any major damage here.
After the Sprint tech confirmed I wasn't receiving calls she noted it in my account and offered to credit my account if I keep track of how many days it wouldn't work.
I'll test when my wife gets home from work in a hour.

This is definitely a problem with sprint/google voice and it doesn't matter what phone you have. I had this issue when they first started the Sprint/GV integration and after browing the official sprint forums I found that it was the problem. Once I removed the GV integration all the issues went away. Another reason I removed it was because I would be on the phone and would get disconnected after 30 minutes exactly every time. I was using a Evo shift then, and then moved to the Motorola Photon and it happened on both of them.

My issues seems to be fixed. I stopped using Google voice a long time ago. Never got the words right I'm visual voicemail which was the reason I wanted it.

Google voice and sprint.. In Kansas... I get random missed calls too. Just will have a missed call and it never rang
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

i had this happen today in Oak Park, IL. first i noticed it though.

I don't have the SIII, but I will add to the list of missing calls as well (GSII). Only weird thing is...I never got the notification like you guys did. I would use my wife's phone to the call and it would never ring on my end. But when I uninstalled the app, it worked fine.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app

The best advice for anyone using the Sprint/GV integration is to just drop it because it's just gonna be more of a problem than it's worth. Most of the time you won't even know you missed a call or text until someone tells you.

SIM Cards - PRL's - *22899

I was told to do a *22899. It made my PRL change to 52xxx and signal was alright but then I heard they were only 3G. So the only way i can get back to the 15xxx PRL was to get a New SIM from VZW. It was free and I just wanted to do a Signal Test to report back here.
These 2 screen shots were taken from the same location outside of the VZW Store-

New SIM PRL 15119
Im running the OTA 4.0.4 Radios.
The only way the new SIM will accept is to start fresh.
-If running a Custom ROM, Wipe Data, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Flash Rom, Flash GApps, reboot and sign in-
-if running Stock, Factory data reset.
No More dialing *22899, it wont update the 4G while on a 52xxx PRL-
Bummer. Yeah, don't do 2289. Went through this a few months ago.
tell me bout it, got the wrong info from VZW and online. oh well, i got a signal boost out of it-

PRL's are different # across the US
The 22899 trick works on devices like this if you assign the number to a saved contact (mine is called "vzw") and initiate a call to the contact (nothing new in this)... A VzW customer care rep had me do this, not knowing that it's not intended to refresh the PRL on LTE devices.
Anyway - I must have played with this about a dozen times. Works just fine, no issues, no "fried SIM" - my understanding is that this isn't an issue any longer. HOWEVER... updating your PRL this way DOES seem to load the 5*... PRL rather than the 1*... that is associated with best roaming towers for LTE devices. Every time I did this, I wound up with a 5*... series PRL as we're seeing in this thread with other folks' experience.
HOWEVER -- I had no reason at all to suspect the SIM was somehow "damaged" and "stuck" with this PRL. The "proper" way to update an LTE SIM with a new PRL is to allow the phone to do it automatically on boot, or way to have it pushed to the phone by the carrier. After "calling" my "vzw" entry I wound up with a 5*... PRL -- so pulled the battery, popped the SIM out for a moment and replaced both it and the battery. Then, before turning it on again, I entertained a bit of superstition and took the phone to a place with a known very strong 4G signal and powered it up there. Within a minute or so after boot, the PRL had changed and now read (and still reads) 15109.
Note: this is AFTER I had called the 22899 number many times and had the 5*... PRL assigned to the phone (SIM?) each time. No damage -- just needed to encourage the phone to reset the PRL properly by itself.

No noticeable difference in signal with either one, although I haven't experimented in any particularly scientific fashion. In general, I get great reception with this phone -- and this didn't seem different when on the 5* PRL...
When I first got my phone, my phone auto dialed *22899. My PRL changed, but it reverted back to the original 15119 after a reboot. Not sure if I should get a new sim card or not. Signal is fine, but I live within view of a tower.
when i got my gnex, the verizon rep told me to never do a *228 on a 4g phone. didn't really explain why though. guess this is why.

Help me out here, you say the only way back to the old PRL is with a new sim card and factory reset? Why would the new sim not "take" with out restoring the phone?
I have done the manual prl update a few times and gotten a 5xxxx prl. I saw this thread and checked my prl again and it went back to 15xxx on its own? Do I need a new sim card???
I hadn't checked it in a while, but my phone has reverted back to the 15 PRL after using *22899 many times.

Anyone having MMS issues?

Noticed this last night, havent been able to send an MMS since about 9pm lastnight. Local issue?
Still having the issue, is there some data I can clear or something to reset?
Custom rom?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Nope, bone stock. Running ZVB.
This has happened to me before with this phone and Sprint. First question: are you using the Stock Messaging app? If so, try rebooting the device. I've noticed when I was on ZV9 or ZV8 (can't remember which one) when I would drive through an area with no signal, the radio just refuses to pick data back up. Turning Airplane Mode on and off or a reboot usually fixes the issue. If you're not using the stock messaging app, you might have to wait for an update to that app.
Sorry, that's really all I got.
Airplane mode on/off, reboot, nothing is working.
Settings are correct

Not sure if your having the same exact issue i am. But i can't send test messages shorter than 4 words or so. This has happened to me since i got the jelly bean update. I have reset the phone, check the settings like u, root and reinstall jb, done ## something##, brought my phone to sprint...... Ihave not found the answer yet either. Its really annoying when i want to reply something short and to the point. My text messages are littered with fails. If you figure something out please let me know. And to top it off sprint says i need to spend 50 bucks on a referbished phone, to fix my issue.Wtf
I was able to send a text of more than 4 words, seems to be MMS outgoing only. I received a pic earlier this week.
I meant I can not send outgoing messages shorter than 4 words or so.

Mine does that too, not just my phone but my Wireless hotspot too, (a AT&T Unite) I can keep the connection up by doing a "ping www.google.com -t" in the command line.
Yes, this will kill your battery, consider using bluetooth or USB tether.
Furthermore AT&Ts DNS servers suck use these
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Just put them in to your DNS settings in Windows.
This isn't an issue with your devices, its a AT&T issue from the looks of it. (I called AT&T and they tell me that the local tower is having issues so unless I continuously ping google I can't tether or use my hotspot for more than 20 minutes without getting DNS errors, Does it with any ROM I try, even my PlayStation Vita does it)
Sorry but my note 2 is bell variant and i'm on bell network in Canada. The only reason I'm using this forum is because AT&T has the same model unlike the other verizon and such.
So any other idea???
i also tried to set the hotspot auto turn off to always on and it seems to help a little. however every now and then i still get disconnection.

Did anything change when you continuously pinged Google?
I keep refreshing the page, enter new common websites such as MSN or yahoo and they all show nothing except DNS failed look up. I changed the bell apn to some tether apn bell offered but that didn't work. So now I reset the apn to have it look up the settings itself. Still having the issue..
I never had this issue until recengly like last two weeks. Iunno what could be the Cuz and I can't figure out is it my phone, rom, or laptop...
I seriously will pay someone if they can't help me fix this!

Disable your app and use ES File Explorer to hotspot. This can help to see if it is wifi app specific issue, or a common (phone setting, DNS...) problem.

On wifi connection, but sometimes counts towards total data usage..

When I am home, I am always on wifi connection. Never really get disconnected. Today I was looking over my bill and noticed that alot of times, I have like 10mb or 12mbs used, while I am still connected. Most of the time happens in the middle of the night when sleeping, but also sometimes during the evening when home.
Is this normal?
At first I thought I might be losing connection to wifi sometimes, but even if that happened, 10mbs? When sleeping? I doubt I am losing connection though
I hardly have any apps..
Any idea

No internet, maybe blocked by T-Mobile on my Note 3

Hello everyone,
Since 2 days now, my 4G/LTE/EDGE symbols have been constantly appearing and dissapearing. I am in the NF1 firmware and rooted. It was working great but now it is like goin on/off like every 5 seconds. I think my data got blocked by T-Mobile but I'm really not sure.
You can see the video I recorded about the issue here

You think you went over your allotted data limit? If that was so then the symbol would switch to 4G instead of 4Glte, Maybe you are right that you've passed your limit and maybe you should check settings/more networks/mobile networks and ensure that network mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM and check that mobile data is enabled.........and my last guess could be that maybe your sim is loose or failing?

I think it is a bug in the system. I used 2056.47GB according to the My T-Mobile website (tethering non stop), but on the use tab it tells me I used 2048GB of Unlimited. Maybe that stopped my data. I guess on the 17th it will reset and I'll have internet again since calls and messages works correctly. Also, there's no alert on my account and neither a message sent, so my guess is their system just limit the data to 2048GB somehow.
2 terabyte wow. I use net10 on att towers and have massive data connection issues as of the past 2 days and i just put a new monthly on it.

I called them and they said the data was not blocked and that it was not possible to block because it is unlimited, which I think is clearly a system bug or a hard or soft limit of 2048GB
I find it really hard to believe that you managed to use 2TB of data, even if you're tethering. I'm not saying you're lieing, but I think there's something wrong on the backend here that's not reporting appropriately.
There's obviously some kind of issue occuring when you authenticate on the T-Mobile network. My suggestion is either ODIN the phone back to stock and try again, or go into a Store and see if they can tell you anything about your account that's throwing flags at them.
I hope they did block you.

Yeah I think they did that throttling thing because of me
Well, I'm hoping the 17th I get the internet again, of course more carefully. I was just looking at the "how much unlimited data means" limit and I seem to have found it.
If not, the reps said it could be the SIM Card and I have to go to the store then.

How can you even call TMO with a straight face? 2 TB is abusing it, dude.
Can you try a few things?
1) Turn the phone off then back on see how long you have data for.
2) Force the data band of the phone and see how long data works for.
3) Put your SIM into a different device and see how long you have data for.
And of course if you can try all these things on a few different towers just to be sure.
Also can you try cooking an egg on your phone? That thing must be running pretty HOT.

All of that was what the reps said me to do, but data doesn't work.
Here is the bug I suspect, which makes me believe data is turned off at 2048GB:
In this image, the data reported 2048GB, but it let me use a little more. It just stayed at 2048GB

Here you can see that it is reporting what I really used before data was turned off:
I know I may have abused but still they didn't really said nothing about it, and they said blocking can't be done on the phone call. They said to visit the store for a phone/SIM checkup.
You can try to reset your NV values and modem. Below is a link to the thread with instructions.

I have just confirmed myself that this is indeed a system limitation by T-Mobile. Today my cycle reset and I got my data back.
So, in conclusion, T-Mobile unlimited plan indeed have the 2048GB limit.
I hope people aren't complaining about a 2 terabytes limit. I felt like I was abusing when going through 10 gigs a month.
