Hey there ppl, i'm getting a arc s tomorrow as my second device (just for calls and text). And i want to know what ROM are you folks using and why.
Please give me feedback, if you can, such as battery drain, camera work, kernel, smoothness, usability, performance (games, WiFi, sound quality, general behavior) and anything else you might find interesting.
I know it's a lot to ask butt can you help a fellow member?
Currently i find myself inclined to use stock with some mod's like cam and sound, what would you advise?
Thanks for your time

Fast smooth stable everything is awesome

Arconium Miui, fast and everything is working, good battery life with stock kernel
I tried EVERY rom on this forum for Arc S, and I choose Arconium Miui (arconium ICS is better but arconium miui looks cooler)
If you are going to use it for calls and text then better try Arconium ICS with ICS-Tweaked(ROM) keyboard (the best keyboard)
I'm currently looking for best battery life atm i'm just testing CM7.2, Still needs daily charging, performance is really good though.
I have read that Arconium gb + doomkernel is best for battery life or JJ hybrid
JJ's v2 ICS Rom
i m using JJ's v2 rom.. stable-fast-superb
i m using JJ's v2 rom too
Right now I'm using Semc Debrand Engine | V4.1 |.. Smooth UI, great gaming but poor battery life. Arconium GB with Advanced stock kernel is great for battery!
Didn't like ICS much. It is like an unfinished ROM from Sony IMHO. GB is still great for recording videos and gaming.
I'm back on stock ICS. I'll give CM9 a go when they iron out some more bugs. Hopefully Sony will release all the sources required for this to happen soon. I can't do without a working video camera and relatively decent battery life.
Currently CM7.2(I believe it's the latest nightly...). It's a good rom, and I used it on my last phone for a year. It has good performance and looks good(hundreds of themes). But I'm still kinda missing MIUI. I've been jumping between those two, and can't decide whether I want good performance(CM) or a beautiful UI(MIUI).
I've tested tons of roms and decided to switch back to the stock 2.3.4 while waiting for the final release of CM9.
i guess i'll stick with 2.3.4 for now, thanks for the advices i'm gonna give a go a some at those ROM's a decide. Once again thanks mates
currently testing Team Xperia ICS V2.5, and I love it. just need to sort it so it gives me correct lt18i, instead of normal arc, then I will be happy as larry.
Although GB is far better than ICS at the moment
this is the best for me

i am currently running Ice Cream Pureness rom with stock ics kernel....but i tried to play real racing 2 which had very choppy gameplay....i initially thought that maybe the Arc S hardware isnt capable...but i read somewhere that it might be down to what rom & kernel i use. Is this true? If so, then what rom & kernel combination would be the best for full on performance?

I play real racing 2 with arconium 4 with KTG kernel, runs fine, but the game ONLY crash everytime I try to play the H2 NRGEE cup, also sometimes the menu lags
well...i am using jj's hybrid rom with stock kernel....the game ceased to be choppy but now it crashes & goes to homescreen without warning....which didnt really happen before
GB is not dead. i find GB more battery friendly and stable for playing HD games and besides there's not much difference ics and gb its only the numbers.
Not only the Numbers.

From my experience with Pureness V10/11 its always laggy with games.
If you don't care about graphical user interface , definitely JJ hybrid rom is great (fast - compatible with games - has ROM control as well) ,few bugs though like wifi hotspot http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1537717
If you care about having nice user interface with reasonable game performance with lots of free ram available you can try Jelly sandwich http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1836993 or the Remix http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1884958
For the Kernel i always advice to use stock kernel in order to avoid battery drain issues.

I'm using ArcKnigt Kernel RC 3.4.
I agree with you on Pureness V10 always laggy with hq games.
I tried JJ's Hybrid rom but i guess i am a UI person and changed myselft into Jelly Sandwich 6.2 with lots of free ram. Also i can play Real Racer, Agent Dash etc witout lag. :good:
But for a game performance i guess JJ > Jelly Sandwich 6.2 for my observe.
Didnt test Jelly Sandwich 7.0. Maybe that one a bit faster than 6.2 who knows?
definitely jj's hybrid rom with Archnight Kernel 3.5.1 . played most of the games without any problems on this rom.
i always recomande xperia ice bean 4.2n!
Try Xgamer 1.6...Its based on GB thot...Best gaming experience , lots of free ram...Gb 2.3.7 based...Ics is not meant for gaming mate...Understand this..and Gb is not dead yet...
GB is better than ICS in case of playing game, but if you like ICS, choose advanced stock kernel ,jelly sandwich or Ultimate HD 2.0 Rom.

I've tried xgamer 1.6 on xperia arc GB .64,used doomkernelv22 and had battery issues,my battery drained every 3 minutes 1%.So i don't know if that was problem with my phone and me only but i don't think xgamer ROM is ideal.
Till now i used GB .42-Arconium 8.2-doomkernel v22 and it was perfect, with games, smooth no lag, very, very stable.But...now i'm on GB.62 Stock rom-doomkernel v22 snd some new apps from xperia s,didn't try gamings yet but one is sure,GB rocks with gaming,ICS on the other hand, sucks.

I bought my Xperia Play for gaming, so I'm searching a ROM that improves hardware performance.
Yesterday I installed my first custom ROM, a ICS ROM. It's really cool but ICS slows down games and emulators.
What is the best gaming ROM?
I looked the GB ROMs linked by Mayorse (NXT and Gin2JellyBean), what do you recommend?

I'm not sure if you're interested anymore about this question, judging from your post date, but I'll try to help anyway.or if anyone else is curious.
If you're looking for the best game play features your device has to offer with full touchpad support, go for a gingerbread based ROM. The roms below work great for emulators as well as other downloadable games like GTA and are super stable and fast.
Xperia NXT Light Edition & Xperia NXT 1.3 (Hard core gamers)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368
or
Gin2JellyBean
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144
If you care more about having the latest Jellbean features with less emphasis on gaming than these JB based roms are excellent. Touchpad support is a problem, but emulators work fine and most downloable games run at a decent pace. Stability and speed can sometimes be an issue, but this is rarely an issue.
KXP for PLAY (On screen navigation buttons are superb!!!)

Its GSM so yes its compatible with R800i and Its GB so yes it has working touchpads.
I've been experimenting with Xperia Play roms and kernals for the last week or so and this is my experience.
I first tried to just install the Lupus kernal for a stock gingerbread 2.3.4 rom. It allowed me to overclock to 1900mhz, but I felt like the the fluidity was still being held back a bit by being on gingerbread, plus I was running out of storage space and I remembered that custom roms can often help with that.
I then decided to jump to a 4.1.2 Jellybean rom with a Lupus kernal that allowed me to overclock to 1600mhz. I loved this rom, and even after I installed everything I could think to install I still had about 400mb of internal storage left. The only issue, which I predicted, would be that the phone just couldn't properly keep up with Jellybean, even under the best circumstances. It would be laggy, and certain games and emulators would jerk around and I would die because of it.
So finally I decided to install Cyanogenmod 7.2 because I read good things about it, and sure enough its been doing me wonders. It comes with its own kernal that allows you to overclock to 1600mhz as well, plenty of extra space, and I would go as far as to say that it's at a near "Apple" level of fluidity. There's only two issues I discovered with this rom, both of which were solved easily enough. The first is that it doesn't come with the ability to disable to auto-brightness, but this was solved by downloading an xperia app on the market designed the correct this. The second is that the circle button on the gamepad doesn't allow you to map anything to it, and always acts as the back button. This can be corrected by editing the keypad file in the settings, and then you're off to the races.
All in all from everything I've done and researched, I would say that CM 7.2 is the best overall rom for the Xperia Play when it comes to a balance of features and performance. If you need help setting up anything I mentioned, let me know
Very simple:
GB> NXT ROM 1.3 (1.4 is coming)
ICS> Hybrid Rom or u can try a STOCK SONY ICS XPERIA 2011 rom...
JB> Wel,, since there's still the touchpad problem, i didn't try many jb roms...

Yup thats True !!
Greetings!
I've seen a few JellyBean Roms for the Xperia Play (xda and YouTube), but have yet to test any of them out. Just wondering if anyone out there is sold on one particular JB Rom, if so, which one? Gingerbread based Roms are oldies but goodies since they tend to offer the best stability plus can be themed to look like ICS or JB but since there is no Xperia Play 2 in sight, I'd like to at least run a current firmware. I've read of lagging, force closes, and touchpad issues, which make me hesitant to make the jump but hope someone has found that JB gem that I'm looking for. Basically, the Rom should be as stable as can be (preferably still being updated), best battery performance, all the basics (camera, true multitasking, wifi, bluetooth, etc) are all functioning properly, and as for gaming, working touchpads (I do overclock which helps performance wise). Also, state the Kernel you use/prefer with the JB Rom, and why. Anyways, I'd prefer JB over ICS at this point and GB over ICS as well so it is what it is. Hope to see some suggestions, advantages/disadvantages, and helpful info regarding JB Roms for Xperia Play. Thanks for your time y'all!
Currently running Aurora Play v0.8 (GB 2.3.7) Rom, LuPuS GB v6 720 Kernel
Previouly ran with NXT Light Edition (GB 2.3.7) Rom, DooMKernel v14
The two kernels for jelly bean are lupus jb v8 or turbo kernel. They are both great. The best jelly bean roms are pac man and aokp that was modified by someone. Slimbean was also good but lots of people had problems with it though I never did. So far slimbean offers the best ram but pac is the most stable so you should go with that. Really the best thing you can do is try them and see which one suits you best

Hello guys!
I'm currently working on a phone of a friend, the CDMA (Verizon) version of the XPERIA PLAY...
I just want to ask you what setup you guys could recommend me.. After reading through a few threads I would say "Gin2Jellybean" because of the "AdrenoBooster" included and the cool JellyBean-like design, but is Gin2JB working on the r800x?
CM9 seems also to be a good alternative although it doesn't have "AdrenoBooster"-support..
Do you have other suggestions (ROM+KERNEL)?
Thanks in advance!
5-7
CM9 is a ics Rom so touchpads won't be as smooth. Gin2jellybean will work on r800x but you won't have service because it's meant for gsm. Id say cm9 would be good and there's also cm10 which id jelly bean you can find an r800x version made by cj360. There's a xperia z jelly bean rom based on cm10 if you wanna try that. But remember if your friend likes gaming is best to stay on gb and there currently aren't many custom roms for r800x. Check the xperia play index and youll find lots of compatible roms, mods, and other cool things

Customized/Debloated Gingerbread 2.3.3 is the only way to go for stability and good battery. OC'd to 1.4 ghz Smartassv2 and Sio and I'm running butter smooth.
There is no such thing as a best Rom, each rom suites diffrent people in diffrent ways, best advice try some and see what is best that way.

This is a bit hard to answer. GB will always be the better option for gaming since Gaming tends to lag more for ICS, the ROM i'm current using is the Nxt2_r1 (link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368). This ROM has the ics look and has a great battery life along with a lot of RAM. It also comes with the 5 x 4 app rawer which is not common in most of the ROMS atm.
Another GB rom which might be the best ROM for gaming is the xElite Gamer ROM (link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2366002)

Stick with Lupus or if you want you can try out doomkernel just like ramhead has said. Gin2KitKat is also a good choice as it is one of the most popular roms for our xperia play

Try Ice Cream Speed with Lupus GB+ICS v7 or True Ancestor FE with Lupus GB+ICS v1 it's fastest combination in my opinion
I tried to play TDKR and The Amazing Spiderman, wow it run faster you know:good:
But
If you want to good UI with good performance you can try Xperia Play Z BETA, it run smooth in my Xperia Play and you can use Linux swap feature, and it would be great rom, :victory: (i just try with TDKR in Lupus GB+ICS v7 in 1Ghz and it run smooth with little lag sometimes)
sim card
So i chose the this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368
its pretty smooth and nice looking, however my xperia play isnt reading my sim card, do you guys think thats a software problem or more of a hardware problem :/
