Greetings!
I've seen a few JellyBean Roms for the Xperia Play (xda and YouTube), but have yet to test any of them out. Just wondering if anyone out there is sold on one particular JB Rom, if so, which one? Gingerbread based Roms are oldies but goodies since they tend to offer the best stability plus can be themed to look like ICS or JB but since there is no Xperia Play 2 in sight, I'd like to at least run a current firmware. I've read of lagging, force closes, and touchpad issues, which make me hesitant to make the jump but hope someone has found that JB gem that I'm looking for. Basically, the Rom should be as stable as can be (preferably still being updated), best battery performance, all the basics (camera, true multitasking, wifi, bluetooth, etc) are all functioning properly, and as for gaming, working touchpads (I do overclock which helps performance wise). Also, state the Kernel you use/prefer with the JB Rom, and why. Anyways, I'd prefer JB over ICS at this point and GB over ICS as well so it is what it is. Hope to see some suggestions, advantages/disadvantages, and helpful info regarding JB Roms for Xperia Play. Thanks for your time y'all!
Currently running Aurora Play v0.8 (GB 2.3.7) Rom, LuPuS GB v6 720 Kernel
Previouly ran with NXT Light Edition (GB 2.3.7) Rom, DooMKernel v14
The two kernels for jelly bean are lupus jb v8 or turbo kernel. They are both great. The best jelly bean roms are pac man and aokp that was modified by someone. Slimbean was also good but lots of people had problems with it though I never did. So far slimbean offers the best ram but pac is the most stable so you should go with that. Really the best thing you can do is try them and see which one suits you best

there is no fully touchpad support jb rom
for fully touchpad support roms you should use ics roms (in ics roms touchpad doesnt work 100% in aosp ones) or gb roms

i am currently running Ice Cream Pureness rom with stock ics kernel....but i tried to play real racing 2 which had very choppy gameplay....i initially thought that maybe the Arc S hardware isnt capable...but i read somewhere that it might be down to what rom & kernel i use. Is this true? If so, then what rom & kernel combination would be the best for full on performance?
Revert back to GB for ultimate gaming pleasure.

I play real racing 2 with arconium 4 with KTG kernel, runs fine, but the game ONLY crash everytime I try to play the H2 NRGEE cup, also sometimes the menu lags
well...i am using jj's hybrid rom with stock kernel....the game ceased to be choppy but now it crashes & goes to homescreen without warning....which didnt really happen before
GB is not dead. i find GB more battery friendly and stable for playing HD games and besides there's not much difference ics and gb its only the numbers.
Not only the Numbers.
Theres a BIg Difference in ICs & gb
100% true story

Or is it?
Try CM10 unofficial
Any good roms for Xperia arc with stock kernel? I can't unlock my bootloader, so I'm bound to use the stock kernel.

From my experience with Pureness V10/11 its always laggy with games.
If you don't care about graphical user interface , definitely JJ hybrid rom is great (fast - compatible with games - has ROM control as well) ,few bugs though like wifi hotspot http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1537717
If you care about having nice user interface with reasonable game performance with lots of free ram available you can try Jelly sandwich http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1836993 or the Remix http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1884958
For the Kernel i always advice to use stock kernel in order to avoid battery drain issues.

I'm using ArcKnigt Kernel RC 3.4.
I agree with you on Pureness V10 always laggy with hq games.
I tried JJ's Hybrid rom but i guess i am a UI person and changed myselft into Jelly Sandwich 6.2 with lots of free ram. Also i can play Real Racer, Agent Dash etc witout lag. :good:
But for a game performance i guess JJ > Jelly Sandwich 6.2 for my observe.
Didnt test Jelly Sandwich 7.0. Maybe that one a bit faster than 6.2 who knows?
definitely jj's hybrid rom with Archnight Kernel 3.5.1 . played most of the games without any problems on this rom.
i always recomande xperia ice bean 4.2n!
Try Xgamer 1.6...Its based on GB thot...Best gaming experience , lots of free ram...Gb 2.3.7 based...Ics is not meant for gaming mate...Understand this..and Gb is not dead yet...
GB is better than ICS in case of playing game, but if you like ICS, choose advanced stock kernel ,jelly sandwich or Ultimate HD 2.0 Rom.
The latest CM10 is amazing

I've tried xgamer 1.6 on xperia arc GB .64,used doomkernelv22 and had battery issues,my battery drained every 3 minutes 1%.So i don't know if that was problem with my phone and me only but i don't think xgamer ROM is ideal.
Till now i used GB .42-Arconium 8.2-doomkernel v22 and it was perfect, with games, smooth no lag, very, very stable.But...now i'm on GB.62 Stock rom-doomkernel v22 snd some new apps from xperia s,didn't try gamings yet but one is sure,GB rocks with gaming,ICS on the other hand, sucks.

exist? i like very much turbo kernel and jb but all roms i tried with this combination the touchpad is not recognize, also i tried ics stock with turbo kernel and same thing happens.
thanks
there is not full touchpad working jb rom
but you can use cm9.1 that has great free ram and it looks like jb(but not fully like it)
and if you are a new developer you can add project butter to cm9 so it will very fast too

Thanks man i finally got touchpad, work but on lupus jb kernel on cm10 fxp213 using farenheith fix 1.1, this fix its not more outdated. I'm playing dead trigger great here.
AFAIR the jb rom "jellyzeus" from cosmicdan also had the touchpad fix from farenheith.
Hello guys!
I'm currently working on a phone of a friend, the CDMA (Verizon) version of the XPERIA PLAY...
I just want to ask you what setup you guys could recommend me.. After reading through a few threads I would say "Gin2Jellybean" because of the "AdrenoBooster" included and the cool JellyBean-like design, but is Gin2JB working on the r800x?
CM9 seems also to be a good alternative although it doesn't have "AdrenoBooster"-support..
Do you have other suggestions (ROM+KERNEL)?
Thanks in advance!
5-7
CM9 is a ics Rom so touchpads won't be as smooth. Gin2jellybean will work on r800x but you won't have service because it's meant for gsm. Id say cm9 would be good and there's also cm10 which id jelly bean you can find an r800x version made by cj360. There's a xperia z jelly bean rom based on cm10 if you wanna try that. But remember if your friend likes gaming is best to stay on gb and there currently aren't many custom roms for r800x. Check the xperia play index and youll find lots of compatible roms, mods, and other cool things
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
Customized/Debloated Gingerbread 2.3.3 is the only way to go for stability and good battery. OC'd to 1.4 ghz Smartassv2 and Sio and I'm running butter smooth.
There is no such thing as a best Rom, each rom suites diffrent people in diffrent ways, best advice try some and see what is best that way.

Hello everyone
I think it would be time to try a newer version of android, But can not decide which, maybe you could help me and explain to what is better ics or jb. Which is faster. I need your opinions
Thanks for your help
jb.. better features.. almost same or better speed than ICS. Touchpads probs in JB more than ICS. but you can try different ROMS and check.
I've tried several roms in all my days with my PLAY and I can assure you ICS is the best IN THE ACTUAL MOMENT. Why? Some days ago I was with a JB on my phone and the touchpads still kind a lag a bit in some games, and this don't happen on ICS roms as far as I know.
true dat.. after writing my comment on top.. I also shifted to MIUI v4 ICS.. and yes.. touchpads run.. phone runs.. everything funs proper.. ICS is the best mix of GB and JB.
well i almost used all the roms over xperia play forum and too many ported roms but myself from arc
i can say that nothing can give me the experience of gb but if you can deal with video lags because of outdated graphic drivers
but if you want to switch to a higher android version i will suggest ics to you
all of the jb roms have some video related problem (i dont know why ) and games are not running well in jb
but jb is a little faster in ui if you choose a well tweaked rom like super jb
but if we get a 3.4 kernel we can have a great working kit kat with great speed in games (achotjan is getting the xperia play soon :victory: )
(even x10 has kit kat now :crying: )
KITKAT WOULD BE GREAT :d

I have used my xperia play for 1.3 years and i tried many roms. For gb roms, i tried NXT 1.3, NXT 2 r1, DiXperia 2 & 3, AuroraPlay 2.0, xElite Gamer 2.0, Gin2KitKat 3.1.0, Atomic GB 7.1(by Sewer56lol), and some outdated gb roms. However they dont satisfy me. For Nxt 2 r1, gta vc lags but ppsspp smooth, and for auroraplay, gta vc smooth ppsspp lags, same goes to other gb roms. About ICS roms, i tried many too except cm9 & cm10 based, i like ICS roms because many features and looks nicer but i won't use it for more than 1 month because the gaming performance is very poor and gamekeyboard is very unstable on ICS roms. I have returned to stock rom(.58 enhanced v3) once and the performance is very good but the ui looks very ugly. So after some use i went to ICS roms and then to gb roms. Now im lost and i cant decide which rom i should use and now im thinking about return to stock rom again but i have no knowledge about theming stock rom or change the framework of stock rom. So im stuck in the roms and i guess im pretty much bored of the roms and the device itself.....But im sure i won't sell my xperia play because its epic gamepad and im not rich enough to get newer phones
I've had the xperia play for almost 3 years here, and i can totally relate to your arguments. Gaming performance being poor on ics roms and the GB and JB roms having an uglier ui. It's been stated that GB works the best for gaming. However for ICS and GB, if you're facing terrible lag which gets to the point where your games are unplayable then you should do something about it. I'm not sure if there's a way to completely get rid of the lag on the xperia phones but what i did was install some tweaks such as 'Liquid Speed' and 'Pure Performances' which did the trick for me . That being said, there are a lot more tweaks than the ones i mentioned but i am using these 2 and even though i'm using the rom xperia z express ics, most games barely lag
PS: The gamepad works fine for me, so it must be the rom you're using
I wish you luck

Use MIUI v4 ICS.. it gives u good theme options.. Touchpad/Gamepad works amazing.. am on it at the Moment.. with Turbo Kernel 3.1.1 which gives 400mb space. you should try it out for sure.. I use it with 256mb Swapfile. no scripts and it works good enough.. for sure with scripts would work even better.. I overclock it at max 1ghz.. never more..
