The 720 p videos which is played fine in stock rom, cannot be played in this rom. Only certain videos can be played. Do I need to install codec or something?
When I tried to to run PSStore, it said its need to be updated. And when I update it, it said could not be download

I bought my Xperia Play for gaming, so I'm searching a ROM that improves hardware performance.
Yesterday I installed my first custom ROM, a ICS ROM. It's really cool but ICS slows down games and emulators.
What is the best gaming ROM?
I looked the GB ROMs linked by Mayorse (NXT and Gin2JellyBean), what do you recommend?

I'm not sure if you're interested anymore about this question, judging from your post date, but I'll try to help anyway.or if anyone else is curious.
If you're looking for the best game play features your device has to offer with full touchpad support, go for a gingerbread based ROM. The roms below work great for emulators as well as other downloadable games like GTA and are super stable and fast.
Xperia NXT Light Edition & Xperia NXT 1.3 (Hard core gamers)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368
or
Gin2JellyBean
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144
If you care more about having the latest Jellbean features with less emphasis on gaming than these JB based roms are excellent. Touchpad support is a problem, but emulators work fine and most downloable games run at a decent pace. Stability and speed can sometimes be an issue, but this is rarely an issue.
KXP for PLAY (On screen navigation buttons are superb!!!)

Its GSM so yes its compatible with R800i and Its GB so yes it has working touchpads.
I've been experimenting with Xperia Play roms and kernals for the last week or so and this is my experience.
I first tried to just install the Lupus kernal for a stock gingerbread 2.3.4 rom. It allowed me to overclock to 1900mhz, but I felt like the the fluidity was still being held back a bit by being on gingerbread, plus I was running out of storage space and I remembered that custom roms can often help with that.
I then decided to jump to a 4.1.2 Jellybean rom with a Lupus kernal that allowed me to overclock to 1600mhz. I loved this rom, and even after I installed everything I could think to install I still had about 400mb of internal storage left. The only issue, which I predicted, would be that the phone just couldn't properly keep up with Jellybean, even under the best circumstances. It would be laggy, and certain games and emulators would jerk around and I would die because of it.
So finally I decided to install Cyanogenmod 7.2 because I read good things about it, and sure enough its been doing me wonders. It comes with its own kernal that allows you to overclock to 1600mhz as well, plenty of extra space, and I would go as far as to say that it's at a near "Apple" level of fluidity. There's only two issues I discovered with this rom, both of which were solved easily enough. The first is that it doesn't come with the ability to disable to auto-brightness, but this was solved by downloading an xperia app on the market designed the correct this. The second is that the circle button on the gamepad doesn't allow you to map anything to it, and always acts as the back button. This can be corrected by editing the keypad file in the settings, and then you're off to the races.
All in all from everything I've done and researched, I would say that CM 7.2 is the best overall rom for the Xperia Play when it comes to a balance of features and performance. If you need help setting up anything I mentioned, let me know
Very simple:
GB> NXT ROM 1.3 (1.4 is coming)
ICS> Hybrid Rom or u can try a STOCK SONY ICS XPERIA 2011 rom...
JB> Wel,, since there's still the touchpad problem, i didn't try many jb roms...

From my experience with Pureness V10/11 its always laggy with games.
If you don't care about graphical user interface , definitely JJ hybrid rom is great (fast - compatible with games - has ROM control as well) ,few bugs though like wifi hotspot http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1537717
If you care about having nice user interface with reasonable game performance with lots of free ram available you can try Jelly sandwich http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1836993 or the Remix http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1884958
For the Kernel i always advice to use stock kernel in order to avoid battery drain issues.

I'm using ArcKnigt Kernel RC 3.4.
I agree with you on Pureness V10 always laggy with hq games.
I tried JJ's Hybrid rom but i guess i am a UI person and changed myselft into Jelly Sandwich 6.2 with lots of free ram. Also i can play Real Racer, Agent Dash etc witout lag. :good:
But for a game performance i guess JJ > Jelly Sandwich 6.2 for my observe.
Didnt test Jelly Sandwich 7.0. Maybe that one a bit faster than 6.2 who knows?
definitely jj's hybrid rom with Archnight Kernel 3.5.1 . played most of the games without any problems on this rom.
i always recomande xperia ice bean 4.2n!
Try Xgamer 1.6...Its based on GB thot...Best gaming experience , lots of free ram...Gb 2.3.7 based...Ics is not meant for gaming mate...Understand this..and Gb is not dead yet...
GB is better than ICS in case of playing game, but if you like ICS, choose advanced stock kernel ,jelly sandwich or Ultimate HD 2.0 Rom.

Hey ,
Okay So I Got a Play few days back so I was wondering which rom to flash ( Gaming Performance is the highest priority) and after reading through various Threads about best ROM for gaming , these 3 seemed to be most popular. So I would like to know which on out of NXT ( Lite or 1.3 ) , Stock (if stock then 2.3.2 or 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 ) and Slim Bean should I chose ( or u prefer and why ) and ofcourse with which Kernel DoomKernel or Lupus ?
Also I would like to know what are advantages of one over another or if some features any of those roms lack. For example I read Nxt rom doest play 720p video well ? or anything specific that Stock can do but custom roms cant ?
Thanks
NXT = faster + beautiful + 720p = best rom
I'd stay away from stock rom. It's too bloated. For gaming nxt 1.3 + lupus + seeder. For JB and best daily use (not gaming) I'd stick with turbo jb kernel + PAC. Although GB is the best for gaming because of game compatibility and touchpads.

Stock + removed bloat > CFW.
There can not be a single topic found without problems when it comes to CFW.
Do not get me wrong, I like CFW but I stay away from it unless it offers something I want.
Sure overclocking would be nice, however the battery life is short enough as it is for now.
Then another problem is, with so many CFW's around it is almost impossible to get proper help.
Example post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099039
Person A points out a problem.
Person B tells to overclock.
Person C tells its bullsh!t.
Person A is left without a proper answer.
Kind regards, Stefan.

When I say stock rom I obviously mean after removing Bloatware from it . And lupus and seeder can be added to it too right ? After all those tweaks is Nxt still better than stock ?

Yep I dont think so CFW offer something i wan especially except they free up much more Ram which is important for gaming , thats the only reason i am swaying towards NxT rom. Also I think u can use kernel with custom room so you can keep it underclocked most of the time which can save battery and just overclock for gaming ( correct me if i am wrong though) .
The only reason i asked this was that apparently Nxt roms seems faster than stock and free up more RAM but acc to other threads many are going back to stock :s, or prefer stock somehow ... and i was just wondering what advantages does it have over Nxt or is it that stock is more stable ? Also i could use Lupus with stock right ? Also if i decide to go for stock is it better to go for 2.3.2 or 2.3.3 earlier rather than 2.3.4 ?
Thanks.

I'd also be very interested in getting an answer on this if someone more experienced can input their views???
I've recently unlocked my bootloader and installed NXT 1.3 + doomkernel, stock clock frequencies.
I was previously on unbloated stock rom (rooted+lock bootloader)
Dont notice that much difference in games, better on somes like NFSMW, worse on others like GTA VC
I've also noticed that overclocking makes my performances worth than stock clockspeed on those 2 games (more freezes) while overclocking seems much better with emulators (fpse and N64oid)
Well I'm thinking about switching back to stock but I'd also like to get more feedbacks on this.
If you are new stick to the NXT, it work best. I have lots of issues with SlimBean like apps moved to sdcard disappeared after rebooting and corrupt file transferring with USB MSC mode. Its probably my fault for not using the right kennel or something. But once I figured out to work around the issues I prefer it since it's the fastest Jelly Bean rom I've used with lots of internal storage spaces.
The reasons why I prefer JB are:
-smoothest os interface, with ICS and gb there is a lag in animation
-like ICS, faster web browsing performance than GB
-more up to date look and compatible with CyanogenMod9/10 themes
-like ICS, can log out of your Google account without factory resetting
-some programs isn't compatible with GB
- official support of Google Now
Sent from XDA app
but can you have a stock rom (stripped down of bloatware ofcourse) plus a custom kernel? like LuPus or something? or if i'm running a stripped down stock i have to be stuck using default kernel? tbh i would prefer a custom kernel for OC'ing and what not but like to keep a completely stock rom (minus the bloatware)....
If you managed to flash Lupus kernel before then I assumed you've been to the development section. Seek for kernels made for GB, lupus and doom are popular ones.

nope i've flashed nothing to date. but thanks for the info.... was just trying to understand what the best setup i should go for
While I was having lag problems with nxt 1.3 + doomkernel, I've switched to nxt le/stock kernel and gotta say it's flawless in every games so far, much better than stock.
My problems were related to the kernel I guess, bad config/governor or something.
I'm gonna stick to this if it doesn't drain my battery to much
The first twk are good for gaming the lady one slimbean has a nice look, fast and takes up very little space but not so good for gaming

If you want GB Rom, I recommend NXT LE v3.1, and Aurora Play, both with the Lupus Kernel by wedgess.
ICS, I recommend (and I know i'm gonna get boo'ed) Markpython Last version (Today's post), Express Rom or, if you want a neat clean rom, Krisdee's Hybrid Rom.
JB, SlimBean or PACMAN running with the Turbo Kernel. (But no touchpads AFAIK)

Slim Bean gives you very good free ram, but touchpads don´t work. Pacman is more features oriented, but again, no touchpads.
ICS
Hybrid by krisdee gives more free RAM and great perfomance, but is lack of add ons
Express rom, has more features, but just gives about 70 - 90 MB of free ram
Markpython (last posted), until now has performed good for me and great in features, but has a lot of bugs.
I am a big fan of krisdee's hybrid rom a lot of ram yes it does lack some add ons but we can always push it in there the way we want it
Ive also tried playing games like NFS, WILD BLOOD and GTA little to no lag at all.

Nope, running at 1.2ghz
i really dont suggest overclocking more than 1.2, it may lessen lag but you will definitely sacrifice battery life
you need a little money for better performance and battry life toghether
go buy set cpu app and make a profile for youre game and overclock to 1.6 for that game(with smartassv2 govern)
i suggest lupus gb v6 because the free ram is more than others
suppercharging rom is useful but i didnt understand how
Hello all, im searching for a Jb (or ics but i would like to try jb) that can give me overall speed and smoothness, stability, no force closes of apps because of the lack of ram,no compatibility issues and no problems with buttons on emulators. I use my xperia play mostly for emulators and general use and i dont care about running latest games ... im not completely satisfacted about general use of stock. 71 gingerbread that im running now and i would like to try something good based of yours experiences. Thanks everyone

We can't help you find a ROM these thread always get closed because there isn't one ROM that suits everyone, like I'm running pacman right now but I might decide to with slimbean v5 and my own tweaks to it or I might ftf back 2.3.4 GB for gaming its basically trial and error on what you want and what you like

Just one question why do you want to upgrade to Jelly ?
Thank for answering, i would like to upgrade to jb because i would like to have the latest features and to use apps that arent compatible with gb, since i dont use phone for heavy gaming but just emulators i would like to know about experience of users who are on jb, im not asking for the best rom available like other people do, but i just asked about wich rom is more suitable for my use since i only need system smoothness, no force closes and no problems with buttons in emulators
Also i dont really like the memory management of gb on stock and customs, i have occasional force closes and with ram tweaks the situation is worse
Thanks again

For me I searched for a uptodate ROM that have good performance and a good look so there might be better performing ROMs but whitout a nice look (if you want goo performance you need to give up from the look, for me I searched for a balanced roms good look good performance).
If you really want all the new stuff I suggest you to go with Jelly ROMs.
I currently have Miui v5 3.8.16 with dolby which is a very nice ROM Google now works perfectly many features great look and feel, but it's not the best with games (it's acceptable, it's worth for 1 try).
There are some great performing ROMs with different look like there is the: Xperia Z Jelly Bean withe a nice Xperia Z look.
If you prefer the stock android look then CM10.0 FreeXperia Project it's updated every weak or so, very good performance lot of customization ( there is this Project Jellyzeu which is stopped, same stock jelly bean as cm 10.0 but whit out the cm features, this is pure stock very good performance.),
If you would try ICS ROMs I suggest you ICS Original nice Sony ICS look and good performance too.
You should try Cm10 free xperia project. Actually this is the best one for me. I have tested alot of JB roms and this is my guard for now. Stable and smooth UI (you can try use Pure audio and PurePerformances pack's,and the ROM is flying away! - search at Android Software and hacking general development) at newset build FXP237 touchpads are not working, but at 235 works.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with various jb and ics roms,i will try them, also i would like to know, does jelly bean and project butter makes the difference on overall speed and smoothness than ics on our device? If you want, everyone who upgraded or who revert to gingerbread can post his experience and impressions and tell me if its happy or no after upgrading to ics or jb/reverting to gb

i tried many ics and jb roms here and after a while everytime i reverted back to stock based roms and now finally again to real stock with my own mods.
in games performance in jb and ics was the same for me. daily usage is smoother in jb but ics has the touchpads so for me in focus on gaming CM9 was the right one.
i reverted back go GB in the end because generally it was slower everywhere. GB is snappy, you tip the finger, the action happens. i have so much stuff installed and the heaviest games still run as on the first day.
even emulators. i use retroarch mostly and pcsx runs just perfectly under GB - one of the most problematic games colin mcrae rally 2.0 runs beautifully. under ics / jb the gpu drivers are not that good and refresh rates aren't reported right - results in some kind of stuttering. can be fixed but not perfectly.
or compare crazy taxi or most wanted (with opponents and heavy stages -> hint to reviewers here who just show a single lap without anything on the street) - they lag like hell under ics or jb - perfectly fluid on GB - this is the deal breaker for me. definitely.
Interesting, i didnt know about stuttering, i tought that the updated adreno drivers will let gpu gain more 3d performance, anyway with jb there are problems with touchpad or even with gamepad? Jb kernel supports unlocked data partition? Personally i ve tried some ics roms but i finded a bit heavy and laggy in general use then gb so i returned on gb, have to try if project butter makes really the difference, jb should be an improvement over ics

I bought an Xperia T that runs on jelly bean.... its horrific I removed over 100 preinstalled apks and it still idles at 350mb RAM usage
My desktop pc dosnt even use that much. the battery only lasted 5 hours max. and there's no solution for the locked bootloader
I chucked that thing in one of my draws and bought a second hand Play
With my Xperia mini pro I was a big fan of cm7
But with the play I couldn't get the touch pads to work (need for modern combat 4 if anyone knows how to fix that id love to know)
So I tried gin2jellybean ROM with lupus kernel (think its gingerbread that looks like jellybean)
battery's awesome (24 hours still on 95%) touch pads work,
There are some things id like to change and I miss allot from cm7 but overall very happy with it :good:
Rom decision
The best rom really depends to your taste.
I suggest that you try to read the roms on our android development and choose what do you need and like.
Also it is better on gb but for ICS and JB you will need too focus on gaming or looks.
At the moment I am using Nexplay by Cyberscopes and currently observing it.
Overall the best rom will really depends on you.
Use xplay Honami rom by smokerman... Fastest ics rom I've ever used...

Try Gin2jellybean then. I know its on GB but its very fast, it has so much free RAM and it has JB look and feel. Thanks to being on GB it has no compatibility issues, all buttons work and playing on this Rom is awesome experience
Sorry if my reply offended you (I know you wanted Rom on JB) but this is very interesting option.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102404 < this ROM is good for you if you want just gaming nothing else.
But in General, i'd recommend any GB rom since Gamin performance will always be good whether theres media/phone features or not.

Stock rom debloated seemed the best for me I ran the UK FW that was ported for cdma after taking all apps (I kept the timescape because I liked the look) overclock to 2.06 Max and 368 min with doomlords cdma kernel

My Exp
I suggest in if you use ICS, you can use :
- Ice Cream Speed (The Fastest ICS i ever meet with Lupus GB+ICS v7)
- True Ancestor Final (Use Lupus GB+ICS v1 is the smoothest one (my opinion))
- Xperia Play Z Beta (Nice view and have great performance, and support Xperia Play Launcher)
For GB
- xEliteGamer
- Gin2Kitkat
- Xperia NXT
- True Ancestor
