Is there some sort of an issue with ROMs using the 3.0 kernel where you can't use clockwork mod to flash it? I've tried two different ones and none have worked.

Yes
You need to use TWRP to flash it.

Hey guys. Anyone know howto delete a kernel from your phone? I just tried with astro and then rebooted but software info still says I'm running kings #5. Any suggestions? Thanks

Back up your existing setup,
d/l another kernel to your SD card - compatible w/ ROM you are using
boot into recovery, wipe Dalvik
flash new kernel from SD card - read notes for error(s) in CWM after kernel flash/install before reboot
reboot
check which kernel is running
Note that not all kernels work with all ROMs - certain AOSP ROMs require AOSP kernels, same story w/ Sense ROMs.
What if I just wanted to return to the stock kernel?

ROM Manager, Virtuous section has stock kernel you can d/l and flash
So I have rooted but having issues flashing roms. I Have been able to flash to Sprint lovers using the PC36IMG on the root and holding Vol down then Power. But any other rom I have issues with.
I tried to load others via RomManager / Clockwork Mod. I have gotten as far as saying it was successful but it will not boot into the new rom.
Any suggestions?
Try using amon recovery

Thanks... I tried but same result. It shows the rom installing in amon, then boots to the evo white screen... twice. Then back into recovery. I dont get it. I have full root and can load Sprint Lovers rom through Fastboot (pc36img). But roms wont boot successfully after installing through recovery. And I have tried multiple roms.
I am having issues flashing the stock HTC kernel. I have the newest clockworkmod and it aborts installation because it uses a different script to flash the kernel. How do I get around this as I don't want to keep flashing my roms over and over anytime I want the stock Kernel? Any help would be appreciated.

Try flashing it from recovery.

That's what I was doing. I was trying to flash it from recovery and it kept giving me that error because of the newer version of clockworkmod. It appears that the stock kernel is not compatible with the newest version of clockwork mod

I think what he means is don't use Rom manager. Boot straight into recovery and do it all there.

Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of switching to TWRP? I want to move to TWRP because it's new and shiny but I'm afraid about the part of the backups not being compatible with each other. Is there anything I need to know before I make the jump?

... if your going to use twrp and not switch back... its not really any different other than backups not being cross compatible... but so what if your stick to twrp.

Isn't TWRP only compatible with some roms though?

Nope you can inject twrp after flashing any rom or kernel to retain the recovery...

It's not compatible with some programs like rom manager and titanium backup, but can be "injected" into all ROM setups. I stick with CWM because I love the way I can name my own nandroids from rom manager. That's a deal breaker for me if I can't.
I use TWRP on my Kindle because that was the method at the time. Like mentioned before you cannot rename your backups which can get really confusing. I see no need to use TWRP over CWM, and personally wouldn't use it if you had CWM already installed. It would be like taking a giant step backwards IMPO.

I use TWRP mainly because it's easier to navigate.
Epic Ice Cream Sandwich
You can go into /sdcard/TWRP/backups/(ur serial number) and there will be a file folder that contains your backup all you have to do is rename it

Twrp is interactive, newer, a little easier to use as it is more straightforward.

If you rename a TWRP backup file TWRP will no longer have the ability to locate it. Or at least this was the case on my Kindle using the method described above.

Do you have a recovery flashable ".zip" for COTR? Have you searched the COTR forum for one?
Haven't found one but looking for one

Option 1: flash COTR .zip from TWRP.
Option 2: Run option 4(?) from the Kindle Fire Utility
I found a simpler way to do it. I done my research like i should have and went to the website for COTR. You download smirkit-v2.6 and then either boot into recovery(like i did) or open Goomanager. You flash smirkit then boot into OS and opened Rom Toolbox or Rom Manager and then Terminal Emulator. You can install it from there.
I wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU !!!!!! to you and soupmagnet for your help at least you'all answered most people in these forums don't seem to care.
