[Q] Trouble flashing custom rom - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have rooted but having issues flashing roms. I Have been able to flash to Sprint lovers using the PC36IMG on the root and holding Vol down then Power. But any other rom I have issues with.
I tried to load others via RomManager / Clockwork Mod. I have gotten as far as saying it was successful but it will not boot into the new rom.
Any suggestions?

Try using amon recovery

Thanks... I tried but same result. It shows the rom installing in amon, then boots to the evo white screen... twice. Then back into recovery. I dont get it. I have full root and can load Sprint Lovers rom through Fastboot (pc36img). But roms wont boot successfully after installing through recovery. And I have tried multiple roms.

This is most likely caused by a not unlocked nand...did you root sucessfully prior to flashing the rom?
Same thing happened to me when I tried to install DC without nand being unlocked. Damage control was too finicky for me even when I got it working.
I am running cm nightly now and am very happy.

When that happened to me in the past, I was told that I needed to wipe the phone, clear out the cache and dalvik cache, then flash. Our it could be a bad flash (doubtful). I had the danger thing happen on the evo with the joeykrim rom. It boot looped, even though I wiped and cleared all the caches. I dunno other than that.

Have you tried using Amon recovery?
When I use Rom mgr to flash that recovery it says it works then when I try to reboot to the recovery Im right back in clockwork NOT ra. I've tried to manually (use of terminal app) flash ra recovery but like others it says image/file not found....

try going into your recovery menu and performing a data and cache wipe?
As indicated in his thread, clockwork does not play nice with DC.
I understood it doesn't play nice with clockwork, but at the time I was unable to get ra on my phone clockwork kept booting. I was able to get ra using the start over method, I think the real problem was with my version of hboot since that's the only variable that has changed.

Need help.

Hello guys. I got a question. I rooted my phone a while ago and since I flashed to Myn's RL5 rom (which is the best rom I used anyway), I can't seem to do a nandroid backup and can't boot into recovery. Just wondering if I'm missing something or should I try to unroot and get another evo?
Thanks in advance.

what root method did you use? Did you flash a recovery during root?
At first, I was using the Clockwork mod recovery and that didn't work. But when I used the RA recovery everything worked out fine. Thank s

Amon RA is the best...backs up WiMax, which is more than RSA keys. Highly recommend to any rooted EVO

nosympathy wanted to know what recovery you're using: Clockwork or Amon Ra?
Reflash your recovery.

So your problem is only that you can't get into recovery? If it still boots up, then just turn it on and use ROM manager to flash clockwork recovery back on the phone. You should be good to go after that.

The easiest thing to try would be reflashing the recovery. You can easily do this using Rom manager. If you were on clockwork, just select flash clockworkmod recovery. If you were using Amon, select flash alternate recovery. After that completes, try booting to recovery again. See if that takes care of it for you.
Use ROM Manager to reflash your recovery.
Ok i got it now, i really appreciate ur help guys i was getting nervous for a sec lol

[Q] Use ROM Manager to flash Clockwork Recovery?

Just S-OFF'd and rooted my wife's Inc2. Does anyone know if it is ok to use ROM Manager to flash Clockwork Recovery after using the Revolutionary tool to install their custom Clockwork Recovery? The reason I want to is because ROM Manager doesn't seem to recognize the Revolutionary CW Recovery that their tool installs.
Does it work? Will it ruin recovery? What's the story?
Revolutionary doesnt push SU unless they updated it to. And you need root to flash recovery with rom manager. If you cant get recovery installed with revolutionary, youll have to install it with fastboot.

Thanks Times,
I used their tool which (after S-OFF) pushes a custom clockwork recovery which I then used that to flash SU onto it. But now I was wondering if it was ok to use ROM Manager to push a clockwork recovery that it could recognize. But it looks like Beenz was able to with success, just looking to see what others have done or know.
Thanks!
I also have the CWM installed by Revolutionary. In ROM Manager, go to menu --> manual flash override. I've been using it with no problems without having to reflash CWM. The only drawback is that every time ROM Manager starts up, it tells me that there is an newer version of CWM available. Not the end of the world.
So reflash or don't, works either way.
Thanks xenakis.
