does n e 1 notice that the xperia play from sony ericsson is jus like all the other xperias but with a certified game pad. the xperia play doesnt have any better specs than most of the other xperias. most of them carry a cpu of 1ghz and a gpu of adreno 200.
What i expected from the xperia play when i 1st saw it was a gaming device a fast cpu like 1.4 dual core or atleast a 1ghz dual core and more ram and internal memory
when i compared my play to and ipod touch graphics to me the ipod won for graphics, i was so ashamed of sony ericsson and i think that the Xplay, for a gaming device should of been thought of a little bit more with the specs
whose with me on this???
and who thinks that sony should do what sony ericsson didn't and make a real XPERIA PLAY!!!
Well of course we hope they bring out a sequel. There already have been many threads on this. And seriously, the specs seem fine to me. We don't need dual core killing our batteries twice as fast

It's funny you say that because the dual-core Qualcomm in my other phone drains less juice than the one in the Play.

I think KeiranFTW and/or DooMLord could better answer what's been changed beside name. Maybe because zram is a little more accurate of a term .. I know compcache could have negative side effects, maybe its smarter now. But I'm not the best guy to answer, I just know what it is and does

Hi guys!!!
Im older user from HTC mobile, now I buy a new phone more chip, and won a new problems!
Srs., I've looking for features about my mobile (it is Motorola SPICE XT300), and this model only sell in Brazil / Canada / Argentina / Australia (i guess).
Looking in the website (gsmarena) I found the features about my phone, and its is the same about the Wildfire. look:
Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair)
CPU 528 MHz ARM 11 processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm MSM7225 chipset
So i heard about this model dont have a drivers for this chipset, cause i dont know, but motorola dont make this drivers. So i hear some people try porting other driver from this chipset in this model but its very very dificult found news about this. I have some helps from neopeek and other forums, here too, about porting this drivers.
So, this driver i guess stay in /system/lib/****.so - my question is, somebody knows how install the 3D driver for this chipset? If i download a CUSTOM ROM here, try to copy/paste in the same location those files could work? Please guys help me, I dont wanna lose my phone but dont wanna use without graphics (by the way its f**king bad do anything, its slow any apps who needs).
So any news about this? anything? some developer could help me? any one?
Thx guys, c ya ...
gsmarena has the specs of the wildfire wrong, it doesn't have a gpu
Pdadb should be better. If you have the msm 7225 then there is no gpu. The best way to check is run nenamark. If it gets 1fps then there is no gpu. If it gets 30-60 fps then there is a gpu

Nevertheless, the Wildfire is still a great phone, I'm loving it! Never regret it for a minute.

+1 for that
It's a great phone athough it doesnt have GPU. And i dont know what people expect for such a low price...lol I think there is no better phone for that money.
The ZTE Blade is a better option now however before that was released the Wildfire was very good value.

Seconded. At today's price point, there are much better phones than the Wildfire out there. But, ~6 months back, really, Wildfire was the only option if you wanted a budget Android, which is why, I am a bit disillusioned, but will continue to faithfully stick with my Wildfire.
I agree that now there are better phones in that price range. But look at the time when wildfire is released, almost a year ago and still it can compete. You must agree that even few months is relatively big period not to mention a whole year.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
Good value? Yeah, maybe the first days of release, but it didn't take long for alot more valuable phones came along. All HTC phones is overpriced, and now with locked bootloaders, useless. Only reason I got it was becouse, at the time, it was the cheapest with a LED flashlight. If I only waited for the Defy instead, same price-range, but oh so much better phone on ALL fronts.
Ok guys! but the question its not about the wildfire, its is about this Motorola Spice..
So ok, i learn the Wildfire dont have gpu ok ...
So somebody have the nenamark.apk to install ? I just found the .zip file and I dont know how to install this on mobile.
I gonna make the test with this bench, cause if i got more then 1fps i have a gpu .. if not, i dont have and i guess this thread is closed.
Any one know something about this specific model? C ya.

still have hope to see xperia play 2 (( who knows ))

Check out the ZTE Era it's better than this phone and Xperia Play excluding the gamepad of course lol. Lol, if we want to get into that, there's likely a hundred phones out by now that have better specs than Xperia Play.
...but that "exclude the gamepad" is a very important loss. When you exclude the gamepad, you're back in the "touch-screen gaming ghetto" that keeps all the other phones held back.
This part isn't direct attack on you or anything Blessi; but on a general note, I feel that all these spec-counters are getting so wrapped up in numbers that logic escapes their thought process entirely. We can talk, hypothesize, and conceptualize about how Xperia Play's "behind the curve" all day long, but what happens in practice matters more than talking, hypothesizing, and conceptualizing (all of which fall under "guesses"). What's that mean when it still manages to run software with great performance? By the rules of the terminology, hardware that's adequate at running software is not obsolete.
So what we really have is hardware that's not bad as it is... and a gamepad bonus that's currently unparalleled by any other attempt to add hardware controls to smartphone gaming.

So I've had an AMAZING year with my Xperia PLAY.. Being my first android phone,I was instantly hook on Android n now realize how weak Symbian/Windows Mobile/Apple are compared to Android.. So after a year of joy and amazement from this legendary mobile operating system I feel I need to move up from a 1Ghz single core to a dual core.. I have a friend with an LG optimus 3d (Really Good condition)that wants to swap for my PLAY... Any Suggestions if I should go ahead?

Thanks man.. the reason I got this phone was because I love gaming.. but my skills aren't limited to gamepad/touchpad only.. while the PLAY is an AWESOME device! playin games on touch screen won't bring about the end of smartphone gaming..
btw,I'm newly registered to the community, this was my first post, and you gave the first reply.. thanks a lot KindaUndisputed :good:
neh, i heard the optimus 3d flunked.. i get dizzy using it..
I have a two friends, one has the evo 3d the other the lg 3d phone. Neither of them have used the 3d in over a year. There's a reason HTC killed 3d after one phone. Its cool but only for a bit..personally I would keep my play. Even if they gave me a 3d phone I wouldn't use it. Just my thoughts.

Does a bigger and better screen, and a dual core processor make up for not having a gamepad? Having the gamepad, just makes gaming so much better but sometimes I wish the phone would be faster and have better graphics. So it's your choice: [gamepad with worse graphics and somewhat less smooth gameplay] or [No gamepad with better graphics and very smooth gameplay that will never lag]. I do love my Play but I would take the newer phone. The hardware on the Play is very outdated.

Judging by the graphics, I believe it's not the question of GB/ICS/JB, but of a better processor/GPU.

Precisely. Considering it's not playable despite an overclock to 1.7 GHz, maybe it needs two to four cores, a better GPU, and more memory to run. Just saying. Haven't particularly tried it, but it does seem to be the case. If you have a friend that has a better-spec'd phone, maybe you could try it out there.

i know this sounds ridiculous i was wondering if even remotely possible with the finest engineers and a lot of cash how much would it cost me to upgrade the processor, RAM and internal memory of the xperia play?
now before you shoot this idea down i have been reading that theres some people out there with rework machines soldering and upgrading phone chips
Here's a example
now i know it sounds impossible but if this is possible i would pump out some SERIOUS cash to get this done. im sure some freelance engineer might know how.:fingers-crossed:
Impossible.
SoC....
System On Chip...
CPU, memory and graphic are actually one single chip. On xperia Play, it's Snapdragon MSM8255. It have Scorpion single-core CPU, Dual-channel 333 MHz LPDDR2 and Andreno 205 graphic. But it's still a single chip.
Mobile smartphone are NOT PC. they don't have separated CPU, memory and graphic. their's hardware are predesigned to match sertain SoC (only internal storage can vary between same SoC).
Maybe (and i repeat, maybe), theoreticly, internal storage can be expanded in a way of your idea...
Perhaps there's need to find another phone also with 1 integrated chip in the same matter but of higher specs

I secretly wish they would make a full hd xperia play with a snapdragon 601 or maybe even better, a Tegra chip, top that off with 2gb ram and 16 gb internal memory and you really got a great gaming device.
maybe enough posting such useless hope posts?

whatever, if you find device with same soc and more ram it may be possible. swapping nand or soc require new parts, that are pin-to-pin compatible, dont think that such exist through.

The hardware was there if it was mounted correctly defiantly.
It just needed a good software implementation, something probably hard to do not to mention that'd there probably need to be big backend stuff done in the kernel e.t.c.

That's why I would pay a phone engineer to do it. Or a ex Sony employee lol
Well upgrading xperia play should be theoretically possible. If the pinout of the more powerfull version of soc would match the pinout of the current soc it probably should work. However the only faster soc which pinout probably match with the current soc is MSM8255T but it is only 500 MHz overclocked version of the current chip. So performance gain would be marginal :/
