[Q] Baseband Discussion - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey XDA, I have a quick question about basebands - primarily how they effect signal reception. I am using AT&T in Austin, Texas, using JJ's hybrid ROM on Stock ICS on an Xperia Arc using baseband 56. I almost always maintain HSPA+ (like 95% of the time), but the thing is occasionally I'll get data rates slower than EDGE. I was wondering if anyone who is experienced in baseband can explain if baseband 70 would be a better alternative for me, or if it's really just something I have to try on my own. Battery life on baseband 56 has been fantastic too.

Keep having signal drop problem. After flashed official 4.1.A.0.562 firmware with 70 baseband ROM. My setting is WCDMA only, I been to places that shouldn't have signal drop - crowd city. It drop to a cross from full.

[Q] Which Baseband for Vodafone UK with ICS

I recently moved to the UK from Canada and have since found my Data Signal to be below average at best. I'm curious what this is caused by though and figured it's worth a question before wiping everything on my phone over and over.
I was running a JJ ICS rom (Hydbrid 1.1) on BB .70 and it's been great up until the move. Data always had a strong signal when it was on and never any dramas.
Now I'm on Vodafone UK and have a Data allowance (that I'm definitely not close to reaching yet) and it seems incredibly unreliable. The signal drops from H to E quite regularly and even loses signal completely sometimes. Is it just that Vodafone doesn't have very good data reliability?
I'm beginning to think maybe it's more related to Baseband though? Is it worth wiping everything for a generic UK rom and baseband to see what happens or does anyone know of something a little less drastic I might be able to try. I'm all ears...
Thanks for any help anyone has in advance!
all ics roms should work with baseband 70?
So maybe I've got no choice but to try and wipe to generic and see if that makes a difference or not?
Anyone else have Vodafone UK and any issues or non-issues?

Optus AU slow 3g speed JB

Hi I have noticed that since being on jellybean roms I have poor 3g speeds, I don't use 3g much because I am usually in wifi range and I have low data allowance, but I often use it to quickly log into my bank account etc. It takes one minute or more just to log in. It used to take a couple of seconds.
My carrier is TPG, an Optus (Australia) reseller which uses UMTS2100MHz/900MHz.
The phone says Mobile Network Type: HSDPA:8
Baseband is I9250XXKK6. I have not flashed a baseband on its own before on this phone, just used whatever came with the rom I guess. Have tried AOKP jb and euroskank CM10. Both the 3g is super slow. Never had this problem on ICS.
My boyfriend has a nexus S still on ICS on the same carrier and his speeds are fine.
Anyone in Australia on Optus/optus reseller can tell me the baseband they found to be the best? I see a couple of AU baseband but they say best for 850mhz (telstra) network
Thanks guys
Just tried the XXLF1 radio. I used the app GetRIL and it said that would be the best match for my rom but the 3g is still terrible.

Galaxy Nexus radio problem (signal drop)

Hi everyone.
I have a problem with my GSM Galaxy Nexus. The phone drops the signal on a random basis, very often, even when I'm calling.
I have the latest version of Jelly Bean installed, via official OTA (4.1.2). I am not rooted.
I have installed the ClockworkMod Recovery to try new basebands. My phone has the XXLF1 baseband, but I tried also the UGLH1 and the UILE1. Same problem. I've also checked the RIL: it matches with these radios I tried.
Is there anything I can do?
I brought it back to Samsung Service and when it came back to me last week, it had the same problem.
Any idea?
Thanks!
PS: I live in Italy and the reception in my area is generally good.

4G Signal drop on CynogenMod 11-20131213-NIGHTLY-maguro
I am also facing the sharp Signal drop on 4G connection during VOIP calls within 1/8 of minute on all carriers. I have checked using three Carriers SIMM.
Please help me either to stay on same Baseband 4.2.2 or downgrade?
Thanks

[Q] Any baseband (or other method) to boost signal reception?

Hello all Glide users:
To put it straight, my Glide is receiving worse signals and data connection is getting unstable. I usually use data connection in front of my desk. Back when I bought it (Sept. 13th) it had full bars of signal on the UCKL3 baseband at any position of the desk, and flashing to UCLJ3 didn't change this; however, the signal decreased over time, and data connection reliability and speed also fell. As of today, when I'm at my desk, Glide will show it's connected to 3G/H+ but won't receive data, hence I can't read or write posts. Signal is from one bar to zero. Worse, sometimes it simply disconnects me from everything and says "NO SERVICE". Right now I'm posting from my Galaxy Nexus ,which, although receiving just 1~2 bars of signals, sends and receives data swiftly.
I can verify that my other devices also experienced a signal drop, but they always had better reception than Glide - even in the clear outdoors, Glide would sometimes give me non-full signal, when other devices receive full bars.
I wonder whether the signal problem is because of the dorm structure itself or something wrong with my Glide? Or both? Have you guys had a good network when on a particular baseband? Or any suggestions? Thanks for your patience

Maybe try flashing various modems found in TheGreaterGood's LiteROM either 0.8.4 or 0.9.0.
Both those ROM's have an aroma installer which prompt you which modem you want to flash...

Do I have to flash the ROM just in order to get the modems? Are there Odin-flashable packages?

EDIT: I've downloaded KI3, LH2 and KL1 and extracted their modem.bin for flashing, only to find that they made no difference in signal reception, let alone network stability... Out of ideas

RUXKJ5 is best in terms of signal reception, but I think its the problem of CM10 / ICS itself, on GB the whole thing was better.

So you mean I can flash a Rogers i927R radio to an AT&T i927? And is GB radio fully compatible with ICS and upwards? I have my doubts...

I currently have that baseband on CM10.1 with no major problems, try flashing it yourself.
But, the described "no signal" happen anyway..

Flashable modem/baseband/radio ?

Does anyone have reception issues with this phone? Mine jumps so bad from full bars to no bars, LTE is spotty as hell, and believe me, my area and surrounding areas are fully equipt with LTE, great reception, etc.
Anyway to do like a better radio? baseband? some how? I remember my older androids (Samsung galaxys, LG, etc) I was able to find/flash new modems...anyone know of anything? Anyone having the same issues? I'm running Liniage, but I've tried MIUI, all of them ****ty spotty reception ? Btw, I'm in North Jersey (4 minutes from NYC) - Simple Mobile (T-Mobile) unlocked GSM
If you are using a custom ROM that is inevitable. There's no fix for it since we do not have full access into the phone. If you want spot on service you're better off staying on stock ROM.
oh?
I was under the impression that you guys did have full access into the phone, also, the stock is just well, laggy, and ugly,, and did I mention laggy? LOL
