Flashable modem/baseband/radio ? - Amazon Fire Phone

Does anyone have reception issues with this phone? Mine jumps so bad from full bars to no bars, LTE is spotty as hell, and believe me, my area and surrounding areas are fully equipt with LTE, great reception, etc.
Anyway to do like a better radio? baseband? some how? I remember my older androids (Samsung galaxys, LG, etc) I was able to find/flash new modems...anyone know of anything? Anyone having the same issues? I'm running Liniage, but I've tried MIUI, all of them ****ty spotty reception ? Btw, I'm in North Jersey (4 minutes from NYC) - Simple Mobile (T-Mobile) unlocked GSM

If you are using a custom ROM that is inevitable. There's no fix for it since we do not have full access into the phone. If you want spot on service you're better off staying on stock ROM.

oh?
I was under the impression that you guys did have full access into the phone, also, the stock is just well, laggy, and ugly,, and did I mention laggy? LOL

Biggest Rhodium Disappointment? Phone reception.

Since I have gotten my Tilt 2 (ATT), I have not ever gotten good reception. I've flashed every ATT Radio, the newest radios (even non-att) and am running EnergyROM latest and can never maintain good phone reception. I always drop calls.
I know it's not my area, as I got great reception with my previous phone!
I feel like there is no way to get phone reception!!
Very disappointed in that
You guys experience the same problems?
no but theres no dead zones at all in houston.
yeah, i have nothing but good reception in my area (austin, texas and surrounding areas). Maybe you have a faulty antenna on your device. Have you called in At&t and tried to get a replacement? Head down to a Device Support center and talk to the guys there and they might change it on the spot for you, which i've had done many times with my original tilt and fuze.
Good luck.
Well, I changed my GSM Band to 1900+850 and flashed the latest radio and I seem to get better coverage.
One problem though (though it is minor): with these settings, it doesn't use HSDPA, only EDGE, which is slow lol
Any suggestions... please? Haha like maybe ghetto-rigging it with tinfoil? Ha I'm desperate

have you checked the coverage map of AT&T in your area? and also the material your house is built can also play a major role in signal, do you get more signal outside?

Why don't I get 4g?

According to the sprint 4g data map I am supposed to have 4g in my area. I type in my address and i'm "supposedly" in a very strong 4g coverage area, yet i have owned the EVO for over a month and have yet to see 4g at my house.
I contacted sprint numerous times about this issue and all they do is claim that I should be getting 4g but they don't know why I'm not, then I get transferred to another tech.... Sprint has by far the worst customer service of any major corporation I have seen in a long time.....
but anyways.... I'd really like to know why i'm not getting 4g when blocks less than a mile away from me are. according to sprint reps and the 4g coverage map I should have very good 4g...
So does anybody know what might be going on?
Well, you're not giving us much information to go on here. But, is the problem simply that you aren't getting a 4G signal inside your house? If so, that's perfectly normal. The 2500Mhz spectrum that Sprint's WiMax uses doesn't penetrate buildings well at all. Do you get any signal if you go outside?
rooted or un rooted? stock rom or custom rom? newest radios?
details please!

This.
And as stated, building penetration can be an issue. Have you floated around the town / neighborhood / city / wtf ever to see if you can get a signal elsewhere?
I can't get a signal at my buddies house, in the backyard (self described "lounging" zone), but on my porch I can get a solid signal. Matter of blocks away which is curious. Small blocks ... I guess as small as blocks go? But I'd check around!
As stated earlier we need more info. Is your phone rooted and running a custom rom or are you unrooted running stock rom? Are you running the updated Wimax Radio? This is the two most significant questions that needs to be address before we can give a pin point solution for your issue...
Sorry for assuming you guys where psychic...lol...
but anyways, i'm fully rooted running the latest evio rom with kings kernel #6. I have had plenty of roms from dc 3.2.3 to fresh to cm. I have always had the most updated radios and wi-max.
I get 4g in many areas around me, just not at my house, which is my dilemma. I think I got it ONCE while standing outside but it was very brief (I have tested numerous times outside and inside my house) I am on my third evo and none of them got 4g in my house rooted or un-rooted. Same with my bro's evo.
My concern is that according to sprint I should be getting EXCELLENT 4g coverage in and outside my house, yet I get none....
I'm assuming this is a network problem, since sprint is so so ****ty and decided to use dumb frequencies, but are their possible any "tweaks" that I can try?
There are no tweaks I know of, but I have found that Clear's WiMax maps are much more accurate (and depressing) than Sprint's. See if they say that you should have 4G.
___
An army of pacifists can be defeated by one man with the will to fight.
FYI,
According to Sprint's coverage maps, I should get great signal everywhere I used my phone.
In reality, I can't even consistantly make a phone call inside my house or office unless the moon and the stars are in perfect alignment...
Verizon and AT&T both work flawlessly in both locations as well.
Something about Sprint's frequencies that just don't penetrate buildings well at all and seem to be more prone to small "dead zones".
Wish I had 4G within 3 hours of here though...

they aren't sprint's "dumb frequencies" - they're clearwire's. sprint borrows it.
check coverage at www.clear.com for more up-to-date maps.

4G Reception

Hey guys. I live in an area that is in the mountains, so I thought there weren't any way that I could get 4G reception, until one day I was at Walmart and I was on 4G. When I was driving back I was on 4G until I got on campus. I was stuck on edge again and everyone knows how irritating that is. It seemed like overtime 4G was getting closer and closer until one day I got 4G in my room! This had excellent speeds, just like anyone would expect. Last night, I updated my ROM, which claimed that it boosted the signal on the phone, but yet I am stock with edge again. Can anyone explain this? My friend has a MyTouch 4G and he gets better reception than I do with my SII.
HTC uses more bars than Samsung does to represent the same amount of signal
I live in Montreal, middle of the city and I get terrible reception in my house, not to mention slow download speeds. I don't think its ROM based because i've been on 3 different roms with no change in signal. I think you're just gonna have to wait for your carrier to upgrade their antennas

I thought they were doing something with their antennas because of the 4G as well. Until it disappeared today. I don't know if they are working on it or something. I just want that 4G back.
Possible solution: (Just use this ROM, in my humble opinion it's the cleanest, fastest, prettiest, most well rounded ROM available for our phones. I've had excellent experience with it, particularly in the reception arena.)

[Q] SGH-T989D (Telus) Slow "4G" on T-Mobile

Hello all!
Noob here, first post, so first and foremost please pardon any ignorance. I did search here as well as google without finding any significant results. I appreciate anyone who takes time to answer.
I recently bought an unlocked Galaxy S2x (989D) for use here in the USA on T-Mobile. I went with the 989D and not the 989 because I'm using a grandfathered T-Zones plan.
I rooted/flashed Juggernaut 5.0 through cwm, and the phone is working fine EXCEPT my download/upload speeds are lousy. Consistently 1.5Mbps down / 500Kbps Up MAX with 800-1200 ms ping via speedtest app from various parts of Maryland (Baltimore/DC corridor) and using different servers. My N1 has always tested faster than that in the same area, which is why I'm particularly concerned.
I tried flashing Telus KJ3, T-Mo KID and T-Mo KL1 modems found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426001
But saw no improvement. I've also tried using the stock epc.t-mobile and the old internet2.voicestream APNs, with equally crappy results on both.
Is it just a matter of T-Mo having terrible speed over HSPA in this area, or is it possible that there's something screwy going on with the device/rom/kernel/radio? FWIW, calls and texts are fine, and wifi calling works as well. I've attached a few screenshots in case any of them might be helpful.
TIA!
hmm... you should read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514954
there's no spoon
highest speed i ever got was close to 10 Mbps in Canada 3G/3.5G networks
seems more like the area you live in, have poor Tmo coverage for data
That's disappointing, to say the least, especially since according to the coverage map, I'm smack in the middle of a giant blob of "4G Excellent" coverage. I'm still confused as to why my Nexus One would have better speedtest results. Perhaps HTC/Google FTW.
seriously???
Is this legit? Full 4G signal? I can't imagine how it's THIS slow. Does jugg 5.0 have any build.prop tweaks that could be farking with my data? Just threw my sim card into my N1 to compare and it's way faster.
@JoshD422, Did you ever figure this out?
[Q] Whats the difference between each of the radios?

I am also wondering about this same fact with a real Telus phone in Canada. I'm also wondering about the difference between the 3 radios that were provided with the Darkside.UCLE2 Beta 5 ROM. (Don't get me wrong, appreciate all the hard work from these guys, amazing where the T989 dev has come already!)
I tried all 3 radios, and get different speeds with each one. Blazes 4G radio I can't seem to tether, and then the T-mo radios I'm having issues with Bluetooth and even Data.
Could someone if you have a minute explain what the difference is between the radios and maybe suggest what radio would be best for us Telus users in Canada?
Cheers, TIA!
Drew

JoshD422,
I will be the first to tell you living in Toronto, that its completely unpredictable in Canada.
I've had areas if there is high use downtown I will get even worse results than that (seen a ping of over 1000ms ).
At the same time I can redo a speedtest about 200 metres away, and get results up in the 10 Mbps and pings of 45 ms. So I don't believe that part has to do with the radios but more the quality of service, and I'm in whats supposed to have the best service city in Canada.
Your problem definitely seems to be due to the T-Zones plan. I don't have that plan and I'm using an unlocked stock Telus T989D in Maryland and I get 2-4 Mbps down and 0.7-1.0 Mbps up

Do you get the "4G" icon?
I am on a stock unlocked T989d in the Atlanta area and get similar speed to you. However, I only see the "3G" icon in my phone.

Yes, only "3g" icon in MD/DC area. I guess maybe perhaps this is not as fast as using the T-Mobile radio software that comes stock in the T989, but it's plenty fast for me. I don't think the "4g" capability is much faster, anyway.

I think the "4g" icon is purely cosmetic. I have an unlocked Telus T989d on Tmobile and my co-worker has the Tmobile T989 on Tmobile. We both did a Speedtest side to side and we both got ~12Mbps down, ~1.3Mbps up. My phone was showing the 3g icon, while his was showing the 4g icon. Both our networks showed up as HSPA. Both of us in our respective stock, un-rooted ROMs.
While T-Mo roms do tend to be a bit over zelus with the 4G icon, it is much faster than a 3G connection. Where I live in Orlando is a 4G area and I get over 20mbs download speeds and over 2mbps upload speeds..
Side note though.. it is funny that people still use "" or call it 3.5G when the T-Mobile network has been accepted as 4G for almost a year now .. I tried to find the artical but its being illusive today..

Officially, 4G is supposed to get 1000mbs peak download. Tmobile uses HSPA+ which peaks at ~80mbs. I think that is why people call it 3.5G or use the "4G" when talking Tmobile.

[VZW] GN Weak radio bugging me

I don't know whether this is in my mind but since I have upgraded to JB, I seem to be getting weaker signal reception.
I live in a major LTE market and signal is usually pretty good outside on the street. Once I am a few feet from the street, say in a restaurant--even with big plate glass windows--or a house or a backyard, the signal drops to unusable.
This weakness was most graphic this past weekend when I found myself at a backyard BBQ. I couldn't get enough 3G signal to use the internet. Friends (running GB) with the Bionic or Thunderbolt, also on Verizon, standing right next to me were able to get a bar or two and reach the internet.
I'm not holding out hope that a radio release will miraculously fix our signal reception problems.
Wow! same problem here. When I flashed JB 4.1.1 I noticed a big difference in my reception. In rural areas The Galaxy Nexus has horrible reception anyways and We, I say we don't need to be getting weaker signals after flashing this really fast Jelly Bean rom...lol

The Verizon JB roms do not have any new radio's in them so I am not sure why you would be getting a worse signal then before. You should still get the same crappy signal you were getting on ICS.

I had the same issue with my nexus. What I did to correct it was flash other radios that seem to help a lot more.
Here just search for vzw galaxy nexus radio and you should get a search with androidcentral. You will have all ur radios there.

Which radios are you running? FA02?
There's a thread on rootzwiki that has all of the historic radios for Verizon. Reading through it, some people have run a hybrid FA02/FC05 radio setup and say that's pretty good for them.
All I know is that I've got to figure something out. I went to a movie over the weekend and had my GNex in my pocket. I went through 50% battery during the movie because it couldn't find signal... and I wasn't really in a rural area.
I had generally bad service across the board 2G,3G,4G since getting the phone from Verizon. After flashing jellybean and keeping the stock FC04/FC05 radios cell service is pretty similar as expected. I cant really compalin given the area I live in but my old LG Env touch had stronger cell service. The most frustrating part was last week when I was with my friend in the hills of New Jersey where I could not get a single bar of service to even make a phone call and he was getting enough 3G on his iPhone to get on the internet. Rage.
Complete repository of all the radios:
http://goo.im/stock/toro/radios
I flashed FA02 from the command line and everything seemed to go okay but I still see FC04.
Hmmm...
Edit:
I redownloaded FA02 from the link I provided and the flash worked fine. (I had FA02 sitting on my drive from a previous download.)
I'll report back my experiences with the hybrid.
Are you trying an FA02/FC05 hybrid? I was tempted to do a flash-a-thon tomorrow night (busy tonight) and try each radio back to EK01/EK02 to see which seems best.

Nope its worse. I went froma -61dbm signal at home to -75. To make things worse, I lose data in rural areas now and my wifi sucks.
