Hi all.
can I please get some confirmation before I mess things up (again)?
I'm currently running on CM7 RC0. I'd like to upgrade to RC1v2. The procedure I think is:
1. Download Latest CM7 ROM and put on SD card.
2. Boot into Custom Recovery.
3. Install the CM7 zip file and then the google apps one.
4. Select "Wipe Cache" then go to Advanced and select "Wipe Dalvik Cache". Reboot.
Is this right, or do I need to go back to the start and reflash the sbf, root, etc etc?

That's unuseful, even more if you do it after installing cm7 + gapps !
I have upgraded to RC1 without wiping anything...
Of course, if you want to avoid doing some mess you'd better wiping cache + dalvik before installing the rom, but it's not really necessary.
oops. Yes I may have got that in the wrong order.
edited sorry
If you first wipe than update over zip you are on the save site

It's also good to do a 'Wipe battery stats', on Recovery->Custom Recovery->Advanced. Battery can get a little messed up upon upgrading.
Check out the FAQs thread by antony.ps, it is very good! -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
The instructions for upgrading are in the item 3. They are still for CM7 RC0, but it is just a matter of substituting the files for the newest CM7 + gapps
thanks. I did the update this morning after finding section 3) in the FAQs - I'd looked there yesterday and completely missed them. Will now work on slowing down my scrolling speed so I don't miss important stuff again.
Hello XDA'ers!,
[Already used search function btw].
There are a few things a need some answer for.
Some info:
After having the official gingerbread update from HTC I used Revolutionary
TO s-off and root (with some zip file) my phone. Now my phone has Cynanogenmod 7. If im correct the recovery i have is: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4.
Now here are the questions:
1: I want to install MIUI, what do i have to do in recovery before installing this rom. Do I have to do something like clear cache or wipe data or something? + Where can i find the official MIUI roms? THere are different websites.
2: I have the Revolutionary Recovery and Rom Manager says i have to flash clockworkmod recovery before i can search for roms etc. Is it worth it to install it over the revo recov?
1) Before flashing ANY new rom it's always best to do a nandroid backup in case something goes wrong (you can restore to how it was when you made your backup).
Before you flash the rom you've chosen you should do the three wipes... In recovery "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", "advanced/wipe dalvik cache".
Install your new rom... "install zip from sd card", "choose zip from sd card".
2) The (seemingly) most popular miui rom here is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957291.
Download the version you require and place onto your sd card. Then go to step 1 above.
3) Most people would recommend not using rom manager, but the choice is yours. Flashing the newest cwm recovery will make no difference really to when you wanna flash a rom.
Hey Zedmarcus,
thank you so much for your response!
Really helped a lot.
No problem. Helping and sharing is what it's about
If it helps, hit the thanks
How would I flash a Kernal? I Want to flash Faux kernal with beastmod5
Sorry for the noob Question..
If you already have Beastmod installed (or any other custom ROM):
0. Download Faux' kernel and put it on your phone somewhere.
1. From the ROM, hold power and wait for the power-menu. Select reboot to recovery. Basically get into Clockwork recovery. Doesn't matter how.
2. Select "Install zip from sdcard"
3. Locate the kernel file
4. Select OK and wait for it to flash.
5. Reboot. It may take longer than usual for the first boot.
Don't forget to wipe Delvick and Cache before installing a new kernal..

If I flash back to the GB ROM that's available when I use EMMA (when I tried earlier it is the only "service" that came up). Then do the steps outlined here, will it work? Or should i use the 4.0.4 ROM in the link that you provided? -> http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/399620/LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_Generic_Global.ftf

I did some research and heard you need to open the zip file and move the boot.img into my phone then flash it via TWRP. Is that right? Can someone tell me step by step please? I do not want to screw something up.
this "failed" message could be one of a couple of different issues. exactly what was the fail message? and what release of cm are/were you currently running?

It just said Failed in red.
I am running 10.1-20130511-NIGHTLY-d2att
I can update OK but just not flash cyanogenmod.
Is it possible to flash boot.img by just moving it on to my device then clicking install and selecting it on TWRP?

No I have not. I'll check now. Also, will I lose root when doing a wipe?
Yup, I do. Just had to grant it on SuperSU. Wait, am I supposed to wipe then install CM or install CM then wipe to get a clean install?

This is how I flash a rom in TWRP (I always transfer my pictures to my external before these steps, you might lose them if you don't)
1) Transfer ROM and GAPPS to external SD (Micro SDcard in TWRP)
2) Nandroid Backup
3) Choose "wipe"
3b) Swipe to factory reset.
4) Choose "back"
5) Choose "advanced wipe"
5b) Check Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Cache.
5c) Swipe to wipe.
6) Choose Back
7 - optional -) I always format data (not required, will wipe EVERYTHING)
8) Install Rom
9) Install Gapps
10) Wipe cache/dalvik
11) Reboot.
Your bootloader might be not up to date. The newer ROM releases are giving that problem to some people. We'll cross that bridge when we have to.

Your bootloader should be I747MVLDLK4
If it is, it's up to date if not it needs updating.
Go here ONLY if it doesn't match, this won't help you if it does.

Will I have to re-add Bell's APN and will it mess up my IMEI/EFS/NV? Besides it removing my apps, any other things I need to know?

Bell APN is built in the ROM.
Anytime you flash a ROM you run the risk of losing you IMEI (which is why you should have it backed up already) :good:
I can't think of anything else to tell you other than make sure all your pics and personal valuables are backed up on your computer or external SD before wiping anything. If you wipe it by accident it isn't restorable.
I don't know your level of ability or flashing history so I don't know what you don't know.
To flash the bootloader, I just put it on my phone and press install, right?

That's why the ROM fails. Your bootloader isn't up to date. Follow those two links I sent.
I haven't had to update mine (it already is) so I can't assist you with this, it seems straight forward if you know ODIN.
No bootloaders are flashed through ODIN
