Just received a T Mobile UK branded HTC One X, is there a way to remove the splash screen branding ?

No way at all at present unless you go for a custom ROM

Yes, return it to T-Mobile and cancel upgrade/contract then walk into carphone warehouse, they'll handle your Tmo upgrade, match whatever Tmo offered and give you an unbranded handset. You'll get updates much sooner too. Tmo customers are the only ones still on 1.26. There are a few bugs which HTC are working very hard to resolve. Tmo users, however are likely to wait weeks for any fixes as they are so slow with updates.

if you were rooted could you not just mount the system as R/W and replace /data/local/bootanimation.zip with a custom one?

Unfortunately it's not possible unless you've got an s-off device

then how did the custom ROM's get it? surely if they changed/removed it you could on stock?

If you're rooted you can change the boot up and boot down screens but s-off is required to change the splash screen.

Debranded Phone = Warranty Void?

Just realised if i debranded my T-Mobile Desire then that means my phone is no longer under warranty with them doesn't it?
It's risky that's why it was repeatedly said that there was no way to flash back to the T-mobile ROM yet and there is no guarantee they will take it without that.
It seems that topics lately have been completely forgetting to mention that and just saying you can do it.
I knew there was no way of going back until we get root and can dump a T-Mobile rom. I just never planned on dropping my Desire into a glass of Tia Maria and Coke! lol.
Ach they probably wouldn't even notice lol. Just say you removed some of the branding
Would it really void warrenty anyway? It's not even a custom ROM.
The branding is so minimal maybe they will not even notice. I'm not sure if they would check. Worst they could do is send it back i suppose!
If your device was dropped into liquid the device will be out of warranty anyways.
There is a small white sticker beneath the battery connector, when it becomes wet, the sticker turns red. (next to that: the whole mainboard will be a sticky mess: tia maria & coke: lots of stickyness..)
The repair service will tell you that this accident is not covered by warranty.
Hope you can get your insurance pay for a replacement.
Regards,
EqX
Both water indicators are bright and shiny white still. It wasn't the entire phone that went under either. Just less than half maybe ha ha.
Hi,
I was wondering if you have got the softwareupdate 1.21? i also have a HTC Desire (Branded with T-Mobile software) and i do not have the update.
Is there a way to get rid of the branding and just use the normal version(the one you get when you have a non branded version)
I hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks!

The good (and only) answer you'll get is that they sell their Desires branded. Also, afaik rooting doesn't void your warranty, unless it leads to a hardware error and they can prove it was the rooting that did it.
There hasn't been a single instance yet of someone's Desire not being repaired under warranty if there was a non-related hardware fault on a rooted Desire, and there's nothing in the warranty agreement to suggest that they wouldn't repair it for free if you root it.

I also contacted HTC, to ask if i could send my phone to them to get rid of the curent version and reinstall the one before T-Mobile branded my phone.(if t-mobile agrees with that)
I dont think they will do that but i could try

Are you guys from the US of A? If so i just read in the news today about some new law in the states which allows you to root your phone and it wont affect your warranty. But if you are from asia having a rooted phone is going to cause you problems. My friend just sent in his rooted nexus one and the htc service centre was giving him lots of problem for it.

[Q] Stock Desire HD can't find OTA updates

Hi everyone, my friends stock Desire HD is still on Android 2.2. When she looks for updates via her phone it says its up to date when its clearly not. The phone was bought outright and is sim-lock free and unbranded.
Is there anyway to make the phone update to the latest official Desire HD rom without rooting?
No, eventually the HTC servers will pickup on the phone... OTA is unpredictable when it comes to the company, give it a week... Or just call HTC and they could send to the phone. Its worth a try.

Google release the update to HTC, then HTC to your carrier and your carrier to you.
The weakest link being your carrier. If it hasn't happened by now, it probably wont. HTC have released to many new models for the carriers to keep up with.
It may be worthwhile contacting the carrier.

Thanks for the replies. The carrier shouldn't be an issue since the device was bought outright without any branding so the updates should come directly from HTC. The support page on HTC website suggests a soft reset. I think my friend should just call HTC and see what they can do. Thanks!

couldn't agree more, after rooting i have fallen in love with my phone all over again

[Q] One X different SIM and brand OTA

Hi my friend has a T-Mobile branded One X with a 3 SIM card. Does this stop it receiving OTA updates or are they just slow?
I was wondering this because he is on 3.16 which is a little out of date.

No, it's the phone CID that determines updates or not...he's waiting for T-Mobile to offer an update. He'll be kept waiting.

The update will be released by T-Mobile in his case, and this will probably never happen in the near future, this is the thing that characterizes every brand he should consider himself lucky if he gets another one :good: i wouldn't expect it that much though
If the carrier insists on branding the phone then they should be obliged to offer every update. Surely they can't say no to the Sense 5 one?

yeah but they can do it whenever they want
Yeah i see your point there. But it does reflect badly on HTC if they do refuse to do a large update anyway and would on T-Mobile too. Would certainly put me off their contracts. Got the unbranded so i can avoid any update problem.

you made the best choice never buy a branded phone, this is one of my rules
And it's a good one to follow I guess it isn't so bad if the phone can do S-Off as you can just change the CID to HTC_001 but in this phones case no one has found a way :/

Asked for an AT&T HTC One, got a Verizon one, should I ask for a return?

Well the phone works on Indian GSM network, but this is a Verizon HTC One. Can I still flash WWE HTC One ROMs or am I screwed in that department?
EDIT: To clarify, I met a seller selling imported unlocked US HTC Ones, and said he would send me an AT&T One, but I got a VZW One instead.
Really?

well the vzw one definitely works fine on the indian gsm networks. if you want more options in terms of custom roms, yeah ask him for a return. it might be worth more hassle than it's worth though.

You can run ViperOne on any HTC One, so i wouldn't worry about it. Plus Philz CWM Touch is available for m7vzw, and some great custom kernels.
Of course, you did ask for something and got something else, so in all rights you could ask for the correct one you ordered. I love my m7vzw though.
Edit - btw, "unlocked" htc ones are not exactly hard to come by. You can unlock any HTC One with Rumrunner as long as you do it before updating firmware. Takes a couple minutes, and you do not need to really know anything except how to install correct drivers on your pc and read.

Thanks, I'm thinking of keeping it since sending it back and forth would probably take a couple of weeks. Currently running a debloated stock Verizon KitKat with ElementalX kernel and it's working really well (of course, s-off'd and unlocked). This wasn't hard to come by on eBay, but it was the cheapest from a reputed seller, so I bought it as an upgrade from my N4.
PS: I really need to remove the stupid "x attempts remain before your data is deleted" security feature, this will be a gold mine for my friends if they see this. Any ideas on how I can do this without changing ROMs?

Just so you know, the Verizon One doesn't support 3G UMTS/HSPA+, as far as we know anyway, and is limited to a few 2G GSM bands. It's designed specifically for Verizon's CDMA + LTE network with a couple international bands thrown in for roaming purposes - not the best model to use all the time in another country. You really want the AT&T model for proper band support, unless you don't mind poor coverage in areas where your carrier uses other frequencies.
Yeah the one is capable of making global calls but not handling global data.

[Q] EE UK bootloader unlock.

Firstly, apologies if this is already answered somewhere, but I have searched both on XDA and Google and can't find a definitive answer.
I'm considering getting this device as an upgrade, but can't seem to find out if the M9 handsets directly supplied by EE UK have officially unlockable bootloaders or not. They have a nasty habit of permanently locking bootloaders/blocking unlocking by official means and the ability to unlock is essential to me, so it's a deal breaker if they're permanently locked.
Any answer from someone that has an EE supplied handset would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you get it direct from EE and not from a third party like Carphone Warehouse etc? Just want to double check, as I don't want the hassle of returning it if it won't unlock. Thanks again.

Great. Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be getting an M9, depending on the deal they offer me.
One thing I have come to realise is that EE is very slow to release firmware OTAs so if you plan on being very current you will have pay $25 to get s-off via the Sunshine app

Yeah, I'm reading that you need s-off to flash other regions firmware. I haven't had an HTC device since the original Desire, so I'm out of the loop.
I assume there's a guide to all this in the general section somewhere, so I've got some reading to do before ordering.

I know you should avoid getting Sony handsets from EE or any retailer except for three as they have their boatloaders locked out. Htc on the other hand is fine and should always be.

My Xperia Z (C6603) came from them as an unbranded unlockable handset, so I was lucky with that one.
I got the M9 from them in any case. Just haven't had time to even unbox it yet!

That is lucky, for me I inadvertently did a work around.
With my Z1 I flashed the DRM partition (can't remember it's name) anyway, i ended up with a brick, wouldn't even charge, so instead of sending it back through EE, i sent it back through carphone warehouse, good thing is, I got a brand new boxed z1 in black instead of white (which is what i wanted) and not an EE version of the device so i could unlock it fully, best thing about it all is it came back in 3 days
