Screen Mounting Problem - HTC One X

Feel free to Comment if this is an Issue you've also faced.
I recently Bought a white HTC One X, didn't really notice any issues, but recently I've started noticing more and more that the Top right hand side of the screen sticks out from the body about 1-2mm.
I'm not sure if this defect was always Present or if It's due to the Heat causing the Glue? From weakening causing the Screen to pull away.
anyhow, I've requested an Exchange and I hope this doesn't happen again, only time I've ever had to return a phone in my life.

Majority of this phones issues are coming from the screen right now (flex/creaking/distortion/gaps). So your issues are not surprising.
The One X has very poor build quality in relation to fitting the screens, however HTC do it (lamination/glue/press fitting/etc).
The process has to be tweaked/changed or we'll forever see issues and inconsistencies.

lol join the club mate and pick what screen defect you want
your chances of winning the lottery = your chances of having a completely flawless One X
in fact you are left hunting for the least annoying defect haha
One X number 9 (in the order of unboxing) is going away soon

Is it just me or does build quality suck?

I've just recieved my replacement for my first HTC desire which had a dead pixel near the top of the screen (wish i kept it, such a minor issue :S) - I got it replaced for a new HTC desire which arrived today, which hs dust under the screen right in the middle of it - a bigger problem.
2 Phones unlucky, and managed to convince TMobile CS to replacve it as opposed to repair, so, I'm getting yet another one tomorrow.
Has anyone recieved a faulty replaement for a faulty phone or is it just me? :S
First HTC phone, very very bad experience, feel like cancelling it :/ (then again miainly for Tmobiles partially ****e coverage)
Funny, mines the most solid phone I've ever had, and I'm a long time Nokia user.
I'm not denying its solid, but one most annoying issue on a phone like this is the screen, and to have a faulty screen twice sucks.
I'm also worried HTC are rushing out desires now, so build quality/batch testing is effected - another reason i regret just sending my old one off now grrrrr :S
I'm guessing you're an unlucky chap. My Desire is of excelent build quality, no dust whatsoever. The backside locks firmly to the body, covering the battery verry well.
Every product has stories of unlucky customers. For me the three HTCs ive had have been the best built and most reliable phones ive had.

Well, it seems you're using the wrong wording. A dead pixel has nothing to do with build quality...they don't make the screens they buy them from a third party. Dust under the screen, again a rare occurrence that happens to the best devices. You had some back luck, but the consensus seems to be that you're an isolated incident.
Still asleep - but yeah, you're right, typically I'd use build quality to assess how solid it feels and its qualty, it does feel solid, not plasticy. However Dust does describe something not working correctly in the bulding process, but yeah - isolated - doubt a whole batch would have such an issue.
Trying to remember what word to use to describe my scenario
They say third time lucky, hopefully that one will work, since HTC desire is the ultiamte phone atm, and if i'm going to invest in a phone now might aswell invest it into an android. Failing that, might sell it on ebay or equivelant
There are worse things than dust that could get under the screen.
Imagine if the person assembling it, sneezed! :O
oh shiiiiiiii lol!

It's not just you, I've had exactly the same problems but the other way around. The first phone I received had dust under the screen, replaced it and now have a dead pixel. I however prefered the first one because I couldn't notice it as much.
I'm getting my third as well but they are CONSTANTLY out of stock. Both times I've received the phone I've asked to have it replaced within a few hours of receiving it (after charging and noticing the problem) and both times they've been out of stock for about a week afterwards (vodafone uk). I mean its good if there is lots of demand for this device but I just want to get one for myself that is fine out the box!
Like you said 3rd time lucky i hope!
Unlucky about that
I waited 2 weeks to get my first replaced, failing that the third you can send of to HTC for repairs, or ebay it and end up with a cheap contact.
It's you. Build quality is very good.
I find the build quality is not the best.
On front screen above the back/search button. I can see key back light coming out of a tinny hole, where the bottom part, the so called chin connects to the screen body. Then on the top left and bottom right of the battery cover. It doesn't seem to fit as tight as on top right and bottom left. I'd say that poor build quality.
I guess the word yous are looking for are "poor QC"
and when someone mentioned sneezing, I remember some article about some poor dude finding squished bug inside a screen on a vaio laptop LOL.

Pressing the screen

When I press my HOX screen at some pressure at the bottom it gives some color inside. Whether this is a problem?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Put some pressure on your monitor (Providing it's an LCD or similar). What do you see?
Why are you pressing a capacitive screen in the first place??
This is a problem, the glas should never touch the lcd.
And why press capacitive touchscreen? While playing games and caught up in the action? Since it is a tegra3 phone, chances are big
Just did a test . Whether the phone can withhold pressure inside the tight jeans and under the pillow while sleeping.

just noticed that mine now as well has that creak on the left hand side..basically when i press the left hand side i can feel it not being in the right place and it makes a noise when i push it down..right side is fine. spoken with my carrier and they said they can not replace it they need to send it to get worked on...and then once i send it they get a quotation of £20 and if i accept then they will try and fix it..i declned that and said you must be joking. spoke to HTC and they said they can not replace it but send it in for repairs..i do not mind that as long as they do not charge me..but they said the carrier should replace it if i am getting dust under the screen...here is hoping..dissappointed..as i really like this phone and already spend like few bucks getting cases for this phone S3 looks more and more appealing now...

And if you don't think it too is going to have its own set of anomalies and QC issues you're a tad naive. Go check out the GN forum, it's the last phone Samsung released. It's a great phone but far from perfect. As is the One X. And as will be the SGS3.

s2 came out never had any issues with that Barry mate. Look i do not want to turn this into a flame war..We both know how it was last week. Nah after clearing my head now i have two options.
One i am waiting an answer from HTC till tomorrow afternoon they said whether they will replace it for me or send it for repairs. If they say they will replace it i have a winner. If they say they will send it for repairs then i will go with my network provider. At least if they fix it i know i shall not have the issues as it will come back brand new.
And the good thing i am covered by warranty as it is the stupid flex issue that everyone is facing..Damn thing creaks like hell when you press on it

I had one of the first SGS2's sold in the UK. It was a train wreck. Here's a list of issues I can remember:
1) Devices overheating to the point they shut down
2) Huge color temperature variations in the displays
3) Wireless (both Wi-Fi and 3G) that was so screwed up Samsung was pushing out updates weekly
4) Fingerprints on the inside of the display
5) USB ports that released and got pushed up in to the phone
6) Flashing covering the camera lens from inside
7) Light showing through from the edges of the bezel
8) Bad headphone jacks
If you had one at launch you have either short or selective memory. After about two months all the QC issues went away and we all know how great a phone the SGS2 ended up being. I kept mine for eleven months; the longest I've ever kept a phone. The point being, no phone is immune from issues especially when they first come out.

If you think about it, the devices we're buying today are about 1000% more complicated than just two years ago. A lot more advanced crap is being pushed in to a smaller space. At the same time, what we're willing to pay at the high-end is kind of fixed so the manufacturers have to juggle all of that while putting out phones at twice the frequency. My biggest ***** with all of them is the obvious lack of testing that takes place. I can forgive some of the QC issues (provided they go away eventually) but the flickering thing is kind of hard to overlook. As was the GN 2G radio problem. Alas, I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. It'll be interesting to see how Samsung fares with the SGS3. People's expectations are so high I think it'll be hard to meet them.

Spot on mate spot on. What would you advise to do mate? I mean phone is fully functional and nothing wrong with it. It is just that gap on the left hand side which is not really visible unless you really look at it and then when you press hard on the left you can feel the phone creaking and trying to adjust the shell to get in place.

White One X issues

Hi, this is my first post so id like to say hi.
This place has been a mine of info for me during my two weeks of owning my HOX.
I am now onto my third White HOX.
This morning i swapped it as the screen flexing was becoming too much of an annoyance. The first phone had a faulty battery, the second one flex and low and behold this one also has flex issues.
I swapped it at carphone warehouse. I have to say they have been very good. The manager served me today and bought out 7 white phones all of which had the flex issue. He has given me the best of the worst. I just hope this battery is ok. He apologised and said maybe the new batches would be better but its shocking quality control and he is sending all of the white ones back to HTC asap and demanding an explanation.
My main issues with the flexing is i am worried i might break the screen.
anyway seen now that Amazon have withdrawn the white HOX, wonder if CPW will be next! (and no im not flaming this i actually want to like the phone i came from an Iphone 4)

My own survey of a number of headsets does actually suggest that flexing is less on grey handsets. Hamdir supposed that the accuracy of the moulding of the polycarbonate has an effect on this. If so, then assuming the grey ones come out of a different mould, perhaps they are generally more "to shape" and hence are having fewer issues. All guesses of course
Both phones have the same issues, just majority of people are buying the white whats why there are "more" defected white HOX.
I wonder what's going on with the white phones. Me and my friend both bought ours from amazon around the 20th of April and we both have perfect ones, no issues that software updates didn't fix. I thought it was just a minority of people having problems, but now I'm starting to feel really lucky!!

MY phone is 100% except for the software fixes that they have got.....
I am thinking I am lucky also .
My HTC ONE X is white and model number HT23HW.
yeah there is a return and replacements thread for this kind of thing. there are probably threads about the issues like that flex already as well. but congratulations for making another post just like the others so that more people will follow and do the same. =]

There's no such thing as a "white" One X. There is a One X which is built as a single unit and during the last stage of assembly placed in to either a white or grey body. I'd also venture to guess that the both the grey and white bodies are pressed using the same molds. I can't imagine anything unique about the white polycarbonate body that could possibly make it perform differently than a grey one. It's a piece of non-conductive plastic.

Quite simply if the body was undersized, or distorted in some way, such that it was pressing where it shouldn't, then a number of issues could result. I doubt that the white and grey bodies come out of the same mold. That would mean they would have to produce one or the other at any one time.
I agree, if the moulds were some how off ever so slightly then the phone wouldnt perform correctly (flex, ripples etc) my new one has a gap at the top of the screen where dust likes to gather.

There have been more polls, informal counts, and banter about issues on this forum than any other I've ever participated in. One went down to the day and month the phone was built. With all of this searching for a pattern, I assure you if color played a role it couldn't have escaped the eagle eyes of the participants of this forum who examine each phone with a neuron microscope. I've been in product management and can also assure you that the tolerances capable of drilling the microscopic speaker holes mean that the formation of the overall body isn't what's out of spec and causing technical challenges. It's not a piece of Lego.
Believe what you want, rationality left this forum weeks ago.

[Q] Is anyone happy with their One X?

We've all seen threads about issues with the screen. The update is out (somewhat) and new manufacturing dates have been found. Is anyone out there with no issues?
I'm about to buy mine in about an hour or so and this has freaked me out.
I have absolutely no issues with my unbranded One X. No flexing, no yellow spots, not dust, no dead pixels, excellent battery life (charging every other night) and no flickering.
I feel like I have a special device with all the moaning going on

Thank you. Do you mind telling me the manufacturing batch?
The only fault I've seen is flickering, HTC are clearly well on top of that and it is software, every clue is that the latest update fixes it.
So.... Yes, I am happy as Larry with mine, despite the slight screen flicker.
Please do yourself a favor and get an unbranded handset from cpw of p4u who should match any deal you're getting elsewhere.
Very mixed feelings about the Tegra-based 1X here. No screen issues, flexing, etc., like others have complained of, but my particular unit has *terrible* GPS. I'm not talking about long time to lock, I'm talking about position that jumps 100s of meters constantly, making GPS tracks useless. This problem has really destroyed my enthusiasm for the device.
I love the screen/display. Except for the lack of the inky dark blacks on my Samsung phones, the 1X has the sharpest screen I've ever seen, and great color reproduction.
The phone gets very hot if you tax it, ie., with heavy games. I was playing Dark Meadow: The Pact yesterday and the screen was so hot it burned my fingers if I kept then still too long.
Good luck with yours if you buy.
its really a great phone, go and buy it. i have no heating issues, but i am not a gamer. dont forget to use a custom rom

Bought one. No appearing issues. There is a slight screen flex but no discoloration on pressing. No screen flicker (not yet at least). No yellow tint. I don't know how to keep it safe. Already have a little scruff on the bottom corner.
No problem whatsoever on my HOX ( unbranded )
Till now at least ...
Love it but unhappy with current battery stats.
Other than that it's a good phone, the screen is lovely. I just sometimes look at it in awe. Sure would have been nice to have removable battery/microsd/better SQ but it will do me for the next few months until next Nexus/iP5/Sony Mint etc.
SGS3 - I have preordered from Amazon and will make use of the 7 day return policy so I can test it and compare against the HOX.
I have had mine for a few weeks now and everything is perfect, no flickering or spots anything like that. Only thing that is slightly annoying is the battery life, i finding myself charging it twice a day but I'm a heavy user and the phones always in my hand

I've had my phone for around a month now, though it's not perfect (the screen it's sealed in 100% on the left meaning a 1mm gap allows light to shine out in the bottom left corner) I'm glad I got it.
It is a lovely phone. The screen is crisp, it's responsive and coming from an HTC Wildfire it's a real joy.
If you're one of the lucky few to get a phone with little to no faults then kudos and I'm sure it will make your phone seem even better.
I am confused and I truly don't know what all the fuzz is about.
* Yellowish tinge on the screen?
- Nope.
* Phone not booting after updating?
- Nope, and I've done 3 updates since I bought it.
* Battery draining like crazy?
- Nope, been using the phone the entire day and still at 73% (and even Bluetooth was activated the entire day to call hands free in the car)
* Wi-Fi problems?
- Nope.
If people are so unhappy about this phone go and buy a ****ty galaxy in blue

The repair, not really

Sent it off for repair because it had screen fitment problems out of the box (screen was loose but didn't ripple, no yellow spots), the casing was perfect and not damaged. When I got the device back from repair, screen was replaced and tightened, but it now ripples on normal touch, has 1 dead pixel, light bleed around the bezel (can be seen in the video, top part of the screen, also around capacitive touch buttons), yellow spot in lower right corner when the phone gets warm AND the casing was damaged in several places.
I'm sending this video to HTC and will demand either my money back or a new device, it is unlocked, but this cannot be caused by software, so they should accept the warranty. Video:
Did they tell you which repair center they sent it to?

In my opinion this is the repair shop faults.
Either way this is unacceptable. Very sloppy work.
I am very curious how HTC will resolve this.
My last resort is to send my HOX or any other future devices back to their so called repair or service centers. Your major problems will be resolved but additional cosmetic problems will surface such as this gentleman's screen. My first and only experience is purchasing an EVO 3D gsm version from a local yahoo auctions seller in HK. I didnt want to nitpick but the screen had leaks of light when viewing in datkness and it wasnt aligned properly. So i thought what the heck..send it in for repair or servicing...got it back in a week with less light bleed but some of my capacitive lights werent lighting up completely. As if they never checked after other problems were resolved. I ended up selling it for a good 150 dollar loss since i am extremely picky with these screens. Just last week i got the HOX and the darn thing seems to be perfect from the factory but guess what..that small yellow spot pops up when the phone heys to 36 or 37 degrees... Much more annoying than a single dead pixel. I am having an EXCHANGE for another unit but i doubt they will be perfect. For some people stating they have no problems at all...they arent looking hard enough. There is always something imperfect with all the htc phones i have bought. Since the hd2. But whatever...their outter appearance are simply the best looking and i just couldnt pass it up.

@Tw1tchy I just know it was serviced by HTC Germany.
I think I'll get this one replaced, and when I get the replacement, I will just going to sell it and be done with this One X story, too much risk and I don't want to send my phone 1000 km from Croatia to Germany every time I find a problem.

So, long story short.
I received my device which had screen flex and PUSHED the sevice senter to replace the LCD.
Got back the device today. The LCD Module (LCM) has been changed. But, they made some pinch on side of polycarbonate body, while replacing the LCD.
Also, the screen is more flexible in both left and right edges with loosely fixed screen on left center. Hope it becomes hard after some use and heat.
Just for information, i have replaced 3 devices and sent the fourth one to service center three times till now.
I have given up now & keeping the device. After owning HTC from HTC Hermes times, this is the first device i have seen this much quality control issues.
Earlier, I was confident enough to order HD2 and EVO3D from UK (Iam living in Dubai) when they release those.
Now, i lost that confidence with HTC. I still didn't unlock the device for the same reason. My first time with any HTC device without modding the ROM. HTC should be proud of themselves
I have light bleeding on my one x as well. Its quite annoying but you have to get used to it. I'm not risking sending my one away after I have already been without it for a month
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
