[Q] S5660M with Euro ROM to ArpegGioMod - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

I have an unlocked Model: GT-S5660M (IC: 649E-GTS5660L, FCC ID: A3LGTS5660L) with ROM from Netherlands (I think)?
Android 2.3.3
PDA: S5660XXKPE
PHONE: S5560XXKPA
CSC:S5660OXFKP1
Purchased for $100 from Canadian store that buys goods direct from the factory. Works well except gps does not and compass is 90 degrees off.
Is it feasible to try something like ArpegGioMod 0.9?
Do I have to install the Bell Stock ROM first?
It is currently unlocked, what are the chances it would be locked after installing the stock ROM?
Should a noob like myself count his blessings and move along?

Went ahead anyway...
Used odin to install GT-S5660M_MUGKG3_stock_rooted_ROM_v2.tar. The process is similar to some other android devices I have updated the firmware on.
Followed the instructions in the apgmod0.9 thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263025
Used recovery mode instead of odin to install S5660M_cwm-5.0.2.7_ext4+rfs_feb_23_12.zip.
I now have the MUGKG3 baseband installed, accurate compass and working gps.
Nice work gentlemen (Darkshado, Peteragent5, Phiexz and others who have contributed). I thank you.

glad that all worked for you

I too am glad that things worked well for you.
Just make sure that you didn't relock the phone by accident after flashing the stock ROM. (It has unmodified CSC files which will do that if you factory reset with a Bell/VMC/Solo SIM or no SIM card in it.)
It's odd that your phone came with that ROM as the FCC and IC identification numbers match those on my 5660M.
My best guess is that the store used that European ROM to perform some batch unlocking. IMHO this method is dishonest because of all the other issues it introduces (as you've noticed) and leaves non-techie users stranded with a buggy phone and no support to speak of.
If they were indeed buying factory direct, why wouldn't Samsung have provided them with a generic, unlocked CSC file set?
As the saying goes: If it quacks like a duck...
Goodbye,
Darkshado

[Q] Question about warranty and custom ROM

So, i'm tempted to flash Omega or Android HD ROM on my Note 2, but i'm worried about a few things...
I already have the phone rooted, and from what i've understood so far, i can use triangle away to make it look like it was never touched, in case i need to go to warranty (please correct me if what i've said is wrong).
Will i be able to make it look like it's never been flashed/tampered with, if i flash a custom ROM and i have to go to warranty?
Let's say i DO flash a custom ROM like Omega or Android HD and a button isn't working anymore, and it's surely a hardware problem, naturally, i'll have to go to warranty to get it fixed. In this situation, will i be able to flash a stock ROM and fool everyone that it's never been flashed/rooted? And if yes, how? I'd appreciate a description of the whole process.
Hope i've been able to explain myself well enough to get an answer.
Thanks in advance!
You would need to find the stock firmware for your device and then flash it using odin
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
This is my device's info:
Model number: GT-N7100
Baseband version: N7100BUALI8
Build number: JRO003C.N7100XXALIJ
Is there any way to find out where to get my stock ROM?
Depends what country you from and whether the phone in it's original state was branded to a specific carrier or not.
If you know that then go to www.samfirmware.com and search for your stock firmware
eg: if you're from UK, and your carrier is Vodafone, then you would choose, "United Kingdom (Vodafone)" firmware. etc..
After you download your firmware, then flash with odin, and make sure that the flash counter is "0" using triangle away, and that's it. The process of reflashing a stock firmware to your phone should unroot you automatically if you are rooted.
Yes, my phone was branded and locked to Vodafone, Romania, but i've used GalaxSim to unlock it (YAY!).
I've searched SamFirmware for the ROM that i should have, but there's only one for Romania ( http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=7110 )
I don't know if this is the one that came with my phone, but i guess it should be ok, right?
Later edit: OMFG, the ROM is 1.3 GB
Even later edit: Damn, HotFile is so slow T_T''

[Q] Updating an unlocked Captivate Glide I927 to ICS

Hi,
I did make this query earlier on another thread (I promise that thread will be deleted in the next 14-15hrs, but I need to keep it up till that time), but I have now been suggested to re-word and describe the situation properly, before attempting a knee-jerk update and getting my phone locked.
I bought my Captivate Glide I927 from an Indian website, which promised "unlocked for all GSM networks" handsets. The phone came in the original AT&T box, and works properly for voice and text on both Airtel and Tata Docomo networks. Google Play works as well, but internet browsing thru any browser isnt working. The phone came with GB 2.3.6 installed (I927UCKL1). However, I wasnt provided with any "unlock" code, as I have been reading about in this forum (required in case the phone gets locked after an update). The specific seller I bought from on the site is no help at all regarding either the unlock code or an ICS update.
I have downloaded the new firmware "I927UCLJ3_I927ATTLJ3_ATT.zip" from samfirmware, and also have Odin and CWMR on my PC (Basically everything to update my Captivate Glide to ICS). I have also asked around in the reliable-looking half-a-dozen mobile repair shops in my locality, but they cannot guarantee anything, much less a particular model-specific solution for the ICS update while keeping the handset unlocked.
So, my queries are:
1. What do I do to get the internet browsing working on the same setup (GB 2.3.6)
2. If I do flash the ICS update (I927UCLJ3_I927ATTLJ3_ATT.zip), will the handset get locked??
3. If it does get locked, what are the methods to get it unlocked again??
Any replies and solutions are appreciated.
Thank you.
Check out this post by Phoenix84188, it has a patched libsec-ril that allows the bit-flip method to work with the LJ3 ICS ROM.
Bit more involved, but you could also modify the CSC files and flash that modified image instead.
As for internet browsing, did you check your APN settings?

Hard to tell if it will lock, better to be prepared.
When I flashed the I927UCLJ3_I927ATTLJ3_ATT over the existing Gingerbread on the Rogers version of the phone SGH-i927R, it got network locked.
Thus on first boot it was requesting the Network Code. The store I bought it originally unlocked from provided me the code.
After upgrading mine from GB -> ICS (back to) -> GB Official, I then "Unlocked" it with an Unlock code. Then flashed up to the latest official and LiteROM, CM10 preview, etc, and never had to unlock again.
Dont know whether it helps- I too bought from a Indian website. It came unlocked. I flashed to ICS when the ROM came up first (subsequently it was removed and the re-released). I used CWMR to fix the keyboard light and Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware. I dont have any issues with my handset so far other than the occassional deep sleep issue (it goes off from standby and has to be battery resetted)

Dont worry i boughy my glide unlocked from ebay...im from central america and i flashed the ICS update, then flashed LiteRom, CM10 and now Pacman and my phone is still unlocked!!
AT&T unlocks from ebay are the cheapest one's to buy. I would suggest to find out first if they have an unloack code to be on the safer side. Although 99.99% they'll have an unloack code. Flash the ICS update and if it asks you for a code then go buy it.
My handset got locked once when originally updating to ICS and i bought the code from http://cellunlocker.net
Official updates (through Odin or Kies) have a tendency to relock Samsung devices. To the best of our knowledge, all current custom ROMs require you to first flash the official ICS update, so this is a problem. Have your unlock code on hand.
NEVER buy an unlocked device where the seller won't give you the code for it. Weird things happen.

I had the same issue. I surfed the web but didn't find any solution. Than I instaled litekernel and I don't remember why but I used interactive governor and it helped. Hope this will be the help for everybody, cause many are having the same problem

[Q] Flashing a rooted ROM - HELP!

I'm pretty new to all this, I had a Rogers Captivate that had been crashing on me. Everything suggests that if I changed my software it would work.
So I managed to to flash a newer AT&T ROM on to the phone via Odin. (I was pretty chuffed with myself)
However, as soon as I put my sim into it, it became locked. I paid an online service to get an unlock code, but the IMEI number I delivered to them didn't match the network, so I messed that up.
Now I've noticed that I could flash a rooted ROM via Odin, which should save me having to unlock, right ?
I went to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621350 and looked for a suitable ROM (preferably supported).
I went for the PAC ROM, but noticed there is no tar file in the download.
The other ones I wanted to try either suggested it was flashed by another method than Odin (I might be wrong) or the download links for the files themselves were no longer working.
Also, there is talk about Gapps. What is this and what is the process for installing it ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Hi there,
You'll need to specify that the phone is still on the Rogers network, as that's how they access the database. Ie., if you have a phone that was supplied to Rogers, the IMEI will be associated with Rogers and if you tell them it's ATT, they won't be able to find it - regardless of what ROM you're running.
Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware you do have to pay to unlock the ROM again but I'm not an expert on this - I know that I had the same problem you did and they told me to put it in as Rogers instead - that got me my unlock code.
I have a rooted Milestone 2 which is running JB now, and it is still operator locked unfortunately.
Apparently the GalaxSim Unlock tool is good but I don't know if it retains your IMEI - I know it does back up your EFS though. Maybe it's worth a try?
Before doing anything with your IMEI i suggest you to backup your efs folder. There's a software for this too.

thank you
Thanks for the feedback, I've reapplied for my unlock code.
What I'd really like to know now is which rooted ROM should I choose to flash via Odin ?
pardoning edeaoh

Hi hkcharlie,
Have a look at the below thread to unlock your sim card. I used it on mine and my friend's S3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451
I suggest reading the "everything about captivate glide" thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621350
I use CWMR (ClockWork Mod Recovery) from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458153
You have to flash this acording to ODIN. Afterwards, you can download .zip files directly to your device for flashing, or download them on your computer and copy them to the devices SD card. Select them in recovery mode and they will install.
These two roms I've had a lot of success with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945558
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021374
They're both ICS. There is a cm10.1 JB (4.2.2) build as well, and it's *awesome* - but it is missing a few critical features so I won't recommend it for your first time.
Almost any ROM you flash from this forum will already be rooted. Being 'rooted' just means having a kernel that supports it (both ICS rom's above include a root-capable kernel) and a /bin/su and appropriate superuser apk.
Of course, back up your EFS - there are some apps on the market that will help you do this. And backup everything. And test your backup. And your warranty is void, your phone may explode, or impregnate you with mogwai. (do not get wet, do not feed after midnight.)
Happy flashing!

[HELP]T889V Back to stock

Hi!
I have the T889V variant of the Note 2 and I have been rooted for quite a while now, but I need to go stock as I am selling my phone and the buyer wants it absolute stock. I am running Jedi X. I remember when I flashed Jedi, I chose the carrier files for Bell as I am a Virgin Mobile user (although the phone is with Wind but it is unlocked).
I have found a back-to-stock guide on here which basically told me to Odin back to stock image > root > triangle away > super SU unroot
One of the threads also has a stock BUT rooted image file. Can I use that instead to make the first two steps as one? And also, will flashing that give me stock recovery?
Finally, will I run into trouble because I chose another network's carrier files during installation (instead of Wind)?
Please someone help me. I am using the money to buy my parents their 25th anniversary gift. I am a university student and I'm on a student budget and selling this will likely be my only source of money.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
I got your PM. Have you at any point flashed a baseband meant for any other model than the T889V? (e.g. if you applied my LTE mod or while installing some ROMs.)
If no: contact me, I'm looking for some partition dumps. Then just flash the 4.1.2 BMA3 mrRobinson rooted image through Odin. Triangle Away, then unroot (or cleaner yet: flash the stock unrooted Odin ROM.)
If yes: remember how I said in my LTE guide that the "mod permanently damages your phone, and irrevocably voids your warranty"? Well... That's the exact thing I was referring to. I haven't found a way to go back to the T889V modems, which means any attempts to genuinely go back to stock will end in boot loops and frustration. (That's what I'm thinking those partition dumps may help relieve, but I haven't tested it out yet.)
Jedi ROMs are TouchWiz based and thus contain "carrier specific content" a.k.a. CSC files, the "carrier" files which you chose on install. Since you're doing a factory reset and changing them back to Wind's, they're not going to be much of a concern here.

[Q] T-Mobile branded S3 somehow became AT&T.

When I received my S3, it was on a T-Mobile branded stock firmware 4.1.1. I wanted to try CyanogenMod, so I installed it, but didn't like it.
Here's where my problem begins. Upon wiping my phone back to stock to get rid of CyanogenMod, I find that it's now AT&T branded, despite the physical phone being a T-Mobile T999.
I tried rooting it and using CSC changers, but those tell me that the PreconfigUI is SingleCSC, and thus apparently unchangeable.
What I want to do is somehow get my phone back to T-Mobile branded stock.
P.S. I do not have a MicroSIM yet.

Can you go to your phone's settings => about device and check what the firmware settings are? Let's see what you have under firmware version, baseband version & build number. If possible, you may post a screen shot. Did you say you returned to stock by wiping your phone? Hardly seems likely and you would have probably needed to flash some firmware. Would you recall what you flashed?
Thanks for stepping up. My phone's info is:
Android Version is 4.1.1
Baseband is I747UCDLK3
Build is JRO03L.I747UCDLK3
I did not flash any firmware, as I had no reason to.

It's definitely on AT&T firmware. Apologies if I sound like I'm doubting you but are you certain it had T-Mobile firmware when you acquired it? I'd guess it was probably already an AT&T phone. If you bought it in the secondary market, there could have been some previous repairs involving parts swaps. Your safest bet may be to leave it as is and unlock for you use on T-Mobile. Trying to force on T-Mobile firmware now could result in a brick. As it is on 4.1.1, you can easily free unlock it by following the well tested method you'll find elsewhere in this forum.
No apologies needed. I forgot to state that the phone was purchased with the T-Mobile boot animation and bloatware already present, and that the model number printed below the battery is T999. I've got no clue if there was a parts swap or not. Is the method to unlock that's posted elsewhere that you're referring to the one that begins with you dialing *#197328640#? If so, i've tried it but never got the unlock message to show.

There could have been a previous JTag operation involving forced firmware installation on the MB. I've seen previous hybrid firmware involving one or other partition belonging to a different model - e.g. the modem, bootloader or something else but not the complete system.
Yes, that's the unlock method I was referring to. You won't get any confirmation that the process worked at the end. However, if you did it correctly, you would know it worked when you insert a non-compatible SIM card and it works. You should also be able to install T-Mobile apps especially the Wi-Fi calling app which is a really nice feature of T-Mobile.
I'm getting it microSIM'ed tomorrow. I'll see how that goes.
UPDATE: Successfully obtained and installed T-Mobile microSIM. Still wish to replace AT&T boot animation and bloatware with T-Mobile's, though.

OK. I'd be interested in knowing the outcome but I'll be surprised if it isn't unlocked already. Did some further research and there have been some reports of people successfully 'flashing' AT&T firmware on T-Mobile phones, and vice versa. Not sure why this should happen and conventional logic suggests the result should be a hard brick which is indeed the most common outcome. I'll also suggest you boot into download mode and see the information under bootloader. If the device has a T-Mobile bootloader, it may be possible to remove the OS via custom recovery and re-flash T-Mobile firmware.
Download mode currently gives Product Name as SGH-I747. Wiping AT&T OS via custom recovery and then installing the proper one sounds like a good lead. I eagerly await your instruction

If download mode info shows secure bootloader enabled, the phone is, to all intents and purposes, now an AT&T phone. Attempting to flash T-Mobile firmware may likely result in a brick which would require a JTag fix. I was hoping download mode would show it still had a T-Mobile bootloader which could have allowed for safe firmware installation but this does not appear to be the case. Likely the motherboard was previously replaced or it suffered a brick and AT&T firmware was JTagged on. Either way, it would be safer to leave it as is.
Bummer. I'll leave it as is then. Thank you for all the help.
