It give us unlimited permission to modify the system partition etc. changing Boot screen etc.
There is a detailed thread that's right at top of the general forum that covers this in depth.

It also allows direct access to all partitions on the phone so we can learn a lot more about it. Will be able to flash boot.img via recovery with the rom (no need for fastboot flash), we can flash modified hboot/bootloader if we wish to as well. Plenty of possibilities.
None of this is possible with s-on, even if you are htcdev unlocked.

adb backup and adb restore should work (as well as copying the associated data from the SD card if it's used).
I'll look it up cheers

Hi. i want to root my HTC One X. I follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167
But when i will download the onxr.zip file, i just got a Error 404 Page cannot be found
Is the site down, or is there anyone else who knows it?
And my second question is, when i root my phone through this guide, do i lose all my personalized data, apps etc.,? Does it erase all on my phone?
Hope anyone here can help.
That's for the s4 one x, wont work if you have the tegra3 one x.
When you unlock your bootloader it wipes your phone storage

I don't understand the answers to my questions. I just have a HTC One X. I'm from Denmark, and i have buy and paid the phone in Denmark??
So first, what's the problem, that the site don't work where to download the onxr.zip file??
And second, does root of my phone erase and clear all data and apps or will it not be touched?
The Site you are downloading is down.. and yes rooting will erase all the data in your holy HOX...

Do you have a s4 dual core one x or a tegra3 quad core one x?

Okay, rooting will erase all data and other apps. But i have readed other places i've Google, that rooting NOT erase something but only installs SuperSU or something, and give me more permissions.
Now what is now the really truth?
Rooting will not wipe anything, but in order to root you have to unlock your bootloader with htcdev.com which WILL wipe your phone storage.

I got my one v around last year and recently, it became super slow and laggy. Any ideas how to fix this problem? On stock rom, not rooted, bootloader not unlocked.

Root, unlock BL.
If still doesn't solve use swap script or use turbo speed boost.

Try factory reset. It will work.
If you don't want to do that,
Clean cache of all your application.
And another thing at least once in day.
Also do not keep back end syncing.
And some apps like chat messenger's try to avoid those or atleast keep those apps which you use very often.

Stuck on red development screen
I have a HTC One V(CDMA) that was rooted and unlocked bootloader. Now after I unrooted the phone and relocked bootloader runnnig on stock Android 4.0 ICS, it won't do a factory reset. When I try to do factory reset it, it will not get past the red HTC development screen. How can I get past the red development screen so that I can factory reset my phone?

You unloacked bootloader but did you flash a new stock kernal while installing your stock ICS?
If not , flash your stock kernal by going into fastboot mode.
This problem generally comes when there is mismatch of version of kernal and ROM.:highfive:

Two questions actually...
1- Is it possible to root HTC One M8 without unlocking the boat loader ?
2- Will transferring files from internal to SD card work in the future ?
You don't need a boat loader to root. In fact, it could be detrimental to your device
Unlocking the bootloader however is necessary in order to root your device.
I understand you can already transfer files to SD, you may need to format to NTFS though as there have been problems reported using exFAT.

Transfer to the sd card using third party apps is not possible without root.

I know, I'm not likely going to root my device so is there going to be a way to transfer files from internal to SD card ?
