[WANTED] Devs and Testers for a rom port project ICS CM9 source

Alright guys I think it's about time. The Captivate glide has been out for awhile. We have clockwork mod (had it for awhile) and this phone has way more than the required specs to load ICS. No one knows when the OTA update will be out. But in all honesty who cares. I have knowledge with editing android apks and roms because I picked it up from themeing. I also have linux. There is also already a custom kernel for captivate here in this forum.

My proposal is this. We need devs with:
-knowledge of rom porting and customization
-linux to compile source (duh) if you know how do this with mac/windows than fine.
-dropbox (github is another option) so we can all work on the same rom

-be sure to have a backup if the rom doesn't work.

-CWM Recovery
-Odin
-Android SDK and device drivers (me no dev)

hopefully, lambgx02 would find time, he's also a dev and one also responsible, teaming up with CarpeNoctem and ardatdat to bring root to the Glide.

Alright looks like we're under way, we'll still need some more people for this project but I'll start up the project in github

yes I did create LunarUi, why does that bother you? lol I got a new phone but no roms are on it. This is a great oppurtunity for me to rom dev

OH !!!! Now I SEE ! LOL, ROTFL, LMAO! ....coz when I saw your post, something hit me then I keep searching the whole XDA.....and it's something to do with some of the CM7 themes I installed...It bothers me for I will not be able to sleep until I found out! BTW very nice themes, I guess this an opportunity to thank you for that in addition to rating your themes on the Market Play Store.

According to, http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_captivate_glide-review-694.php, the differences between the Glide and the Galaxy R is the screen and qwerty keyboard. Are there any more differences?

Actually, I really want to help development.
But I totally lack experience of porting ROMs.

Using Glide with Custom ROM
A Programmer, Web, Java, C++ and Android, very little C
A Linux User, know how to edit shell script
tried many times to sync and compiled AOSP code, but still don't have any ideas to MOD.

I have been asked for help with porting CM7 (and after a lot of more I hope) to this device, so I'll try it.

First i'm going to port cm7.1 from gio section to galaxy Y (if I get permission from Phiexz.)
is someone able to unpack a stock rom (a .tar.md5 file)? I need it for porting or at least a full working rom for galaxy y. ANy suggestions?

Dev section! There's a ported CM 7.1 there but its full of bugs. And the stock firmwares are in the Dev section too. Doky's thread. Excited! xP

Why is it that all new devs first come to our forum to test things?? . I am not at all trying to scare this dev and make him run away but its just human nature not to believe when there are couple of reasons like these (That guy has only 2 posts, no android phone and he is from symbian OS)

Giving it a test soon. How should it be flashed? Through CMW or stock recovery?

Dude I already ported it before
As taking the base as cm7
It had the same buggs in cm7
So i didnt post it .......
Hope this one might have the same buggs because nobody fixed the present buggs in cm7
If you want to help us . Try to port another cm7 at first before you doing this

I did use the tutorial mentioned above. I'll be getting my Galaxy Y in no time.

About the Rom
- Flash it via CWM
- Base rom do has bugs as mentioned by sgy.creed. Use patches by Mr.Vivek
- LeWa-OS rom is actually ported from HTC Hero. So I think it'll have screen resolution problems

Same bugs mentioned in cm7 section because it is made with the base of cm7 for sgy

and previous ports we found that nothing worked, and wont boot

CM7 Debugging! Progress Thread

As you all are aware of the bugs in Cyanogenmod available for our device So I thought to gather a team to fix bugs for the good of our device I would like to first start from CM7 major bugs like color swapped when screen rotated, wifi, bluetooth and many more So I would like people who are interested in fixing bugs and form a team are requested to reply below saying "I'm in!" And PM me if any query This initiative by me is for the good of our device! I know some of the bugs listed can't be solved until broadcom releases drivers but we can still fix some of the major one's!
The HTC Sensation XL as well as the Explorer have the same BCM4330 chip as in our SGY! Already hell_lock has a CM Debugging thread in the dev section but that thread didn't show progress thats why I opened this thread!

I am not making a cm based rom! My Rom will be out in Mid April so dont worry... We are working our asses of to make it! What about Debugging CM7 and 9?

I am not a Dev Thingy so if someone helps making rom from source its awesome BTW I dont even know what is the work of the source? If someone answers my super noob question I will Definitely to build stable cm7 from whitexp sir's source

Cm7 is aosp rom i.e. Android open source project.That means they are open source.Any one can make rom from there with thier devices drivers . We have to compile that rom from that sources .For us Broadcom released a precompiled EGL libs which is no use for sources .Sir whitexp compile every cm from his sources which can be found on git .He had fixed his source to de bug cm . Hope you got some knowledge from me.

remember mentality and maturity is an abstract concept of thought,
we have lots of people in xda who are 12 year old's but have made a big impact,
we should not underestimate their capabilities,
we live in a world where we exercise our right as a free people of the free world,
anyways,
we need the littlest contributions we can in our community,

As you all know that nanaosurfer was the one to take initiative to make cm for sgy but whitexp made it first soIhave approached nanosurfer thru pm so that he could help us debug cm! I am also taking his CM7 sources for building a new cm7 afterwords At this stage I got my Team of 15 members along with some other guys working on this We want to gather more...

sorry for that, im just not in a good mood today, things happened, anyhow what he uploaded is stock kernel pulled from stock rom and he is ordering people around to test the flashable zip that he made if it works

definitely and Jonny asking for a source code is awkward, since the source is from samsung website and sammys source cannot even boot when not modded

let me explain to you why u got so many negative feedback,
1. you posted on development section a backup of a stock kernel (what were u developing?)
2. you want devs to test a stock kernel? (what for?) you have stock kernel when u bought the phone?
3. if you want anyone to test a kernel, you should also upload the source(if it was a custom kernel)
4. You spammed development section by posting a thread which only contains boot.img and the other with your so called flashable zip
5. you act so RUDE, as if you are ordering people around here(what you are trying to do is very3 ancient news, use search button?)

Even if you post a stock kernel binary, still needs source or a link to the source (ie, opensource.samsung)...
As for it not booting, that's Samsung's problem
