Unless you want to brick your phone I suggest you wait until a proper kernel and recovery are released for CM9.

ACSRecovery was originally based on CWM4 and for the Epic 4G. I updated it to CWM5 source base, and Also ported it to ET4G.
It has menu optimizations to be more efficient
New reboot menu
PreROM wipe that wipes /data and caches
PreTheme wipe that wipes caches
ACS Branding
Various underhood tweaks.

What kernel is this based on? I really like your recovery and I was wondering if I needed to flash the EK02 kernel again after updating to your recovery?
Potential mod, version, or port to the OG Epic!?...that new compatable ROM manager version just doesn't stick...I wind up in ACS CWM4 version and have to flash a zip everytime I want to use CWM5...smh

Any updates made to the recovery? On 1.0.0.0 wipe data does not appear to be working. Also when you backup to internal SD it skips android_secure because it is looking for it on internal SD.

That is strange indeed. Did you try wiping Cache partition and Dalvik cache and reflashing the zip?

So basically I was having issues with my phone and ended up getting a warranty replacement. So b4 I sent my old one back I needed to revert it back to stock. I found a flashable zip from zedomax that returned the stock kernel, recovery, and ROM. Only thing it was 2.3.5 gingerbread. I was running infamous 3.1 and did darkside super wipe and cache., well after flashing the zip I got the stock recovery, and part of stock boot animation, well after the stock boot animation then came the infamous animation then nothing. It wouldn't boot up past that.,I ended up using Odin and fixing it and converted stock that way. My question is... Is there a special method going from ics to gb?

Yeah just use odin or a flashable zip to return to stock no big deal

don't use the CWM flashable zips. if you do you should flash the rom and kernel too? you probably did but sometimes it doesn't work correctly. I would suggest flashing via odin to get to stock then wipe data/factory reset through stock recovery. that is the cleanest method to get to stock. the CWM flashing to zip sometimes leave stuff behind from earlier flashes.
Ok so here is my noobish question.
When flashing themes through recovery, do I have to revert to my nandroid backup every time I want to switch themes, or can I just flash one theme on top of the other?
Dont know if this impacts the answer, but im running frosty 11.6.
Thanks in advance

Flash the themes over each other with just wiping cache and dalvik. If you come across any issues, dirty flash the ROM you're running to revert back to stock theme.

exactly what steps are you taking in recovery to do this? are you coming from stock? i would odin back to stock firmware and have a go at synergy again. there are rooted stock firmware downloads in android development section. after installation/root/custom recovery:
Boot into custom recovery
Select Wipe data/factory reset
Select Wipe Cache
Select Advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Mounts and Storage and format /system
Go back out to the main recovery screen and choose the "install .zip from SD Card"
Once the phone is booted, let it sit for 10 minutes, reboot again
I wasn't doing the mount/format step and will it giveme the last option to reboot or will I need to remove the battery?

3) wipe dalvick

What state is your phone in right now ?
I assume you can get into recovery mode ? Have you trie dto flahs any other ROM's ?
I just waited 50 mins with the black screen, then I pull the battery turn it on and still the black screen. Then I pull the battery restart into recovery and put cyanogen10 back on. I don't understand why this ROM is different than any other one I have flashed

Going from custom ROM custom to a stock type ROM (Synergy) can create issues. Synergy while a good ROM is a bit buggy at times. Honestly if you want to flash it again I would flash a rooted stoc 4.1.1 ROM and then flash synergy.
It's just a well known issue with going from different type ROM's. Also I prefer to do a full/super wipe if I decide to go to a ported ROM or back from AOKP or something like that

as hednik and i have both stated now, you need to revert to stock before flashing a touchwiz-based rom. the direction you want to go with your device (touchwiz) is a little more complicated than going the aosp-based/source route. be patient, start over from stock, and you'll get there. i would also have a seperate touchwiz custom rom downloaded that you're interested in. in the event your device has nothing but problems with synergy, you could wipe data and flash the different rom to see if it would take instead.
Thanks for the help

Hey guys, I just picked up a new Galaxy S3 this morning and I'm not sure how to install a custom AOKP rom.
I've already rooted the phone, but because the firmware is 4.1.1 I'm unsure how to proceed.
Should I just install the latest AOKP rom version, or do I need to upgrade to a newer firmware while still using stock and go from there?

Should be in the q&a threads...
You'll need to install a custom recovery (twrp or cwm)
Than you can flash any ROM you want. If you want Tasks aokp just download the newest version and most recent gapps and flash as instructed in the thread.

Make sure you have the latest version of cwm. They're at 6.0.2.3 if your recovery isn't at that than the flash won't work properly.

It's not really an issue, I just tend to be somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to boot logos and animations.
Either way, I don't know much about compiling kernels. And the consensus seems to be that your kernel is pretty good, so I'm gonna stick with it.
